The 16 Best Dumpling Spots In SF

"The Dumpling Home team pretty much hit copy-paste on their menu when they opened up this sister outpost in Pacific Heights (there's now one in the Mission, too). That’s great news for cult followers of their phenomenal boiled, pan-fried, and steamed dumplings. The shengjianbao are a deep golden crisp on the bottoms and loaded with soup, and the hand-folded xiao long bao are pulled off with Olympic-level precision. The sleek place is great for filling up after a big haul of athleisure and fancy sweaters from a nearby boutique. " - julia chen 1, lani conway, patrick wong

The 9 Best Xiao Long Bao In SF, Ranked

"There are now two locations of Dumpling Story—one in Pacific Heights and one in the Mission—and both have identical menus to their sister restaurant, Dumpling Home. So naturally, the xiao long bao at this swanky spot will also send you into a pork-and-soup-induced state of bliss. If you want a broth-filled bao with a bit more crunch, get the shengjianbao with crispy fried bottoms and enough soup to spray across the table. " - julia chen 1

Power Ranking Every Two-Word SF Restaurant That Starts With "Dumpling"

"The Pacific Heights sister restaurant of Dumpling Home (they also have another location in Oakland called, wait for it, Dumpling Hours) serves almost the exact same menu, so come here when you want the same dumpling expertise in a setting that could double as the lobby of a spa—think entirely white walls, indoor arches, and shiny blob-shaped mirrors. The way to do things here is to order as many dumplings as you are years old, and roll yourself out. " - julia chen 1, ricky rodriguez

Dumpling Story - Review - Pacific Heights - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"Dumpling Story fits right in with Pacific Heights, the neighborhood known for designer dogs and mansion dwellers. The white walls, shiny mirrors, and arched windows make this Chinese spot look more like a fancy perfume boutique. Still, don’t get it twisted—you’re not here to score at a trendy sample sale, but to witness dumpling mastery. photo credit: Brit Finnegan Let’s get this out of the way: Dumpling Story is the sister spot to Dumpling Home in Hayes Valley, a beloved restaurant that attracts a crowd nightly. They hit copy-and-paste on the menu for this second outpost, so don’t expect revolutionary changes, aside from new additions like gong bao chicken dumplings and numb-and-spicy pan-fried pork bao. And, like the original, Dumpling Story is showing off Olympic-level precision. photo credit: Brit Finnegan photo credit: Brit Finnegan This place serves every boiled, steamed, and pan-fried dumpling imaginable, all of which are hand-folded behind a glass wall in the back of the dining room. You’ll slurp up textbook xiao long bao and bite into the juiciest shengjianbao in town. As for the non-dumpling menu, it’s mostly smash hits. Creamy dan dan noodles stretch as high as you can reach, the cucumber salad is a garlicky dream, and sticky dry-fried wings make all wings look like underachievers. But the beef pockets and ginger garlic noodles are forgettable and less exciting. At the end of the day, Dumpling Story is for dumplings. Focus on those to leave satisfied. You could count on less than one hand the number of dumpling spots there are in Pacific Heights. So the people of Fillmore Street have struck gold. If you’re not one of them, or aren’t planning on coming to the area to inhale the aroma of monogrammed candles, find a way to get here. Food Rundown photo credit: Brit Finnegan Juicy Pork Bao Come to Dumpling Story, order these. It’s that simple. The chewy, thick dough is beautifully fried on the bottom. One bite of these will send a Bellagio-fountain-amount of hot soup spray all the way across the table, so proceed with caution. photo credit: Brit Finnegan Pork Xiao Long Bao Another non-negotiable. Translucent skin, rich soup, and fall-apart meat filling make these some of the best dumplings on the menu. photo credit: Brit Finnegan Dry Cooked Green Beans Not as crisp as their counterparts at Dumpling Home, but still pretty good beans nonetheless. photo credit: Brit Finnegan Dry-Fried Chicken Wings These arrive soaking in a pool of sticky, caramel-like sauce. They should definitely be on the table." - Julia Chen

🥟🥟🥟😻🥟♥️♥️♥️Great dumplings, cozy atmosphere, affordable and unique lamb curry dumplings We visited Dumpling Story in San Francisco’s Inner Richmond neighborhood for the Moon Festival 2024, and it was fantastic. They have two locations, so it’s easy to find one nearby. The curry lamb dumplings were so unique and flavorful, and the 油菜 (Chinese greens) were fresh and perfectly seasoned. Definitely must-tries! The price point is reasonable, with most dishes ranging around $10-$15, offering great value for the quality. The decor is modern and simple with cozy seating, creating a relaxed atmosphere. Easy to reach by bus or a short drive or walk from downtown. The service was fast and friendly, we went for moon festival If you love dumplings, this place is a gem! The neighborhood has a lot of shop to walk as well

I love XLBs, and I especially love places that offer alternatives to pork that are equally tasty. We tried the beef and chicken XLBs as well as the beef pan fried buns, all outstanding! The boiled chicken and mushroom dumplings were also excellent and juicy. The only thing that was so-so were the beef pockets, basically their version of beef pancake, but not rolled up--more like a taco with cold meat. It was better heated up the next day in a toaster oven. Will definitely come back to this or the Valencia location to try the pork options. Service was prompt, and this location is has nice outdoor seating. I also appreciated that they provide large spoons so most of the precious soup in the dumplings doesn't end up wasted on a plate. I'm drooling just thinking about my next visit!

Dumpling Story in San Francisco is an absolute gem! I had the most incredible **shrimp and squash dumplings** and **veggie dumplings**. Both were light, flavorful, and beautifully crafted. I also ordered the **green beans**, which were a standout with their perfect seasoning and texture. I paired my meal with a glass of **Sauvignon Blanc**, and it was a match made in heaven—the crisp, refreshing wine paired beautifully with the rich, savory dumplings. The service was excellent, and the atmosphere was cozy and inviting. If you're a dumpling fan or just want a delicious, satisfying meal, Dumpling Story is the place to go. Can't recommend it enough!

This review was about to get five, until I saw what I saw, right before we left the restaurant. But I’ll start from the beginning first. This small restaurant was bustling with customers waiting to get seated no matter the long wait, which is an indication that the food must be great. I liked the simplicity of this restaurant, which told me the owners care about delivering delicious food and not how fancy the restaurant looks. The staff were very friendly and attentive and worked expeditiously. The menu is simple and obviously focused on mainly various types of dumplings prepared either fried or steamed. We ordered the fried chicken dumplings and vegetable dumplings and they were delicious. The green beans are a must. We liked them so much that we ordered them three times. The noodles were also delicious and we ordered two servings of them as well. The hot and sour soup was okay (not enough ingredients). Our waitress Shobi was so pleasant and attentive. However after we finished eating I decided to use their restroom and I saw one of the waitresses came out of the restroom with her apron on and was drying off the disposable gloves that she was wearing. I was disgusted as to why would she keep the disposable gloves on while using the bathroom? It defeats the purpose of wearing them. Very disappointed, as it made me wonder how many other employees dis that, those preparing the food and those serving it? Despite the great service and delicious food, unfortunately we won’t be returning to this restaurant. Cleanliness is number one on my list.

The place itself was great, as was the service. Giving four stars because nothing blew me away. The veggie dumplings were good but they taste like veggie dumplings I’d get anywhere else.

Id love to give 5 stars, but the service not even close to good. Just like a fast food kind of service, nothing like warm welcoming. I feel its too bad. Two thumbs up for the kitchen whoever made the dumpling. I ordered Juicy Pork Bao and Pork Dumpling Sesame Sauce Chilli. Both are literally the best dumpling I ever had so far in the States.

My favourite local dumpling place. Come here all the time. All the items we got are great. Their pork soupy dumplings are the best!

Came in on a Sunday later night and didn’t expect so many people on the waiting list lol; we still got seated pretty fast and the server was very considerate and nice. The food came out fast. Wonderful place for XLB. The beef noodle soup was also amazing, just hope it has more broth . Overall great experience .
