"Dumplings & Things is a cash-only takeout spot on 5th Avenue where almost everything on the menu is under $6. The dumplings, which come steamed or fried, are served on their own or in noodle soup form, and they also serve bao. We always order the pan-fried spicy beef dumplings." - Matt Tervooren

I love coming here. It’s a really small restaurant with only two tables. The service is really quick and the food is delicious. I’ve been here several times and we always get the scallion pancakes, beef and duck baos and the chicken, shrimp and cilantro dumplings. We get lucky and manage to find a seat every time.

Google
Id rather get frozen dumplings than eat these dumplings. The taste was completely off, the dipling sauce watered down, and it was NOT pan fried like the menu advertised. Instead, the chicken dumplings were deep fryed in a fryer. I couldn’t eat the veggie dumplings. They tasted really stale and there was lack of any authentic flavors you would expect if you were to order dumplings from Chinatown. My advice is to this place is to revise your ingredients to follow traditional dumpling ingredients and flavors. Look up “dumpling” recipes and see what a difference it makes!

Google
TL;DR Come for the baos, the rest isn’t great. Also they’re cash only, which is always annoying. The room is quite small and dark, with only a few seats, so it’s mostly a to-go place. We had the chicken steamed dumplings. The envelope was too thick (but still ok) and the filling was relatively bland. We then had the pan-fried pork & chive dumplings. I expected the typical dumplings where only the bottom is fried, but here the entire dumpling was fried. The envelope was was too thick, almost like bread, and overall the dumpling was too fat. Lastly, we had a duck bao. The vegetables were fresh, the sauce was flavorful, and there was enough of it. There was not a lot of duck, but it was still great.

Google
Lots of dumplings and by golly there’s things there too. The name of this establishment doesn’t lie, and honesty is a rare commodity today. By golly if we had politicians this honest maybe we wouldn’t be in so many predicaments. Way to go dumplings and things, I salute you

Google
Very disappointing experience, the fried dumplings were incredibly hard and tough, and the pork belly was pathetic. There was just a tiny sliver of pork belly in the whole sandwich, and the rest was a mountain of overpowered vegetables. I ate here because it was cheaper than other places, and good Chinese food is typically cheap, but I should've gone to a different place

Marshall Shaffer

Google
These dumplings were absolutely stellar. The bao left a little to be desired because the taste of the pork got lost in the overwhelming cold veggies on top. But once I took a little bit of that off, it lived up to its name and did in fact melt in my mouth.

Jabra Kinaffa

Google
This is a great spot that specializes in various types of dumplings. Best part is that the dumplings are freshly made to order. Being vegan I get the vegetable dumps which are out of this world. Ask for them extra crispy! The staff is very rude though, unfortunately.

Noam Sarfati

Google
Small place but great food. Vast selection of pretty good Asian dishes, dumplings mainly as the name suggests. All made fresh, to go or to stay.

Mercedes R.

Yelp
Dumplings come 5 per order. I ordered the veggie dumplings, pork/chives and chicken/shrimp. All three were delicious but my favorite were the pork and chives. The chicken/shrimp were also a favorite amongst my family. Affordable prices and polite staff. They only have takeout and delivery at the moment.

Hayla A.

Yelp
My favorite dumpling spot. Shrimp and chicken dumplings steamed were my favorite sad to see them go

Caitlin E.

Yelp
Worst dumplings I've ever had by far, these were literally inedible. The "pan fried" dumplings (actually deep fried, not pan fried) are extremely thick and tough and difficult to bite through. The meat inside was dense, dry, grainy and flavorless. I was starving and still threw it away. Absolutely vile.

Abbe K.

Yelp
I agree with my fellow reviewers that this spot is for convenience, yet I'd bump up the praise in terms of taste. Yes, the dumplings are a bit doughy, but that's the style of this chef, so you need to know it going in. I had no trouble communicating with the cashier. The noodles were subtly spicy. We took our food to a neighborhood park as there is no outside dining. The cucumber salad had a refreshing spicy vinaigrette, and the braised beef and vegetable bao sandwiches were very tasty. We ate everything, and I'd definitely stop here if I had a craving for dumplings and things.

Bijal R.

Yelp
Good portions however terrible flavors and quality of ingredients. We ordered pan fried pork dumplings and chicken dumplings but the fillings did not seem fresh. The dumplings themselves were thick and were not appetizing. Each order of dumplings came with 8 pieces. For the main dish, we ordered Chicken Lo-Mein and chose the spicy option but it was still relatively bland. Lo mein had a strange after taste as well.

T S.

Yelp
Portions too small to share and food was terribly underwhelming. Pork & chive dumplings tasted okay but were weird texture. beef in the bao was chewy and the scallion pancakes were flavorless and tough. Very disappointed as was looking forward to eating Chinese food and now do not feel satisfied.

Tiramisuzy F.

Yelp
I can't get over how disgusting this was. The chili oil wasn't chili oil but soy sauce with random red pepper flakes. Dumplings are tasteless and super thick. No wonder they're always empty. Never again

Lina F.

Yelp
This is a good place to go for a quick bite to eat or to go. They do use MSG in the scallion pancakes and in their soups. I ordered pork and chive fried dumplings, shrimp fried dumplings, scallion pancake and wontons. The shrimp dumplings were the best of all the dishes. The pork in the dumplings and wontons wasnt fresh in my mind. So go for convenience but not for quality...

Hayla A.

Yelp
I use to always come here literally this was my spot.Sad to say they have downgraded the dumplings are a hit or miss.Once upon a time they were always good the costumer service is good.

Luis A.

Yelp
Giving this place 1 star because the app doesn't allow you to give less. We had the pan fried dumplings and were very disappointed...not sure what some of the reviews on here rave about. They were very doughy and looked like they were deep fried too long rather than pan-fried. Also, they weren't very flavorful. Customer service is horrendous. My girlfriend placed a phone order and the entire time the person taking it was rushing her to finish. They told us our food would be ready in 15 minutes. She went in after 15 minutes and waited an additional 10 before she went up the cashier to ask why our food was taking so long. Apparently, she assumed my girlfriend didn't know mandarin and as she went to check on our order, she told the other staff that my girl was "so effing annoying". First and last time we go here.

Anh S.

Yelp
This is one of our regular go to restaurants for a quick meal. My kids live the dumplings and noodle dishes. I enjoy their baos. The restaurant itself is pretty plain. There are a few tables and chairs. Not the cutest place but again if you want a quick, delicious bite to eat it's totally fine. The service is fine. Food comes quickly.

Vinay S.

Yelp
Poor Chinese restaurant with oily, bland dumpling and noodle dishes. Roughly $14 a dish. 2.5/5 stars as a lunch spot.

Rashon B.

Yelp
Nothing to write home about. It's a little spot on 5th ave for a quick bite. Been a few times when I have a dumpling craving or want something quick and am on a fake pizza diet. Oh, and it's cheap. It's like 5 dumplings for 3 dollars (I'll fact check later) Last time I went I got the fried chicken and shrimp dumplings. Good but they steamed dumpling are way better. Get steamed! Anyway, there is some seating. 2 tables: both can fit about four ppl. If it's a nice days you can sit on the little bench outside. There a bunch more stuff I've never tried on the menu. I'll be back.

Karen L.

Yelp
Maybe I should have tried their dumplings... Got the pork belly bao (comes with two). The price is mediocre and the taste was mediocre. Good place for a quick snack. The pork belly was juicy but would prefer if there were a little bit more sauce in the bao and if the vegetables weren't so overpowering. I would recommend adding some scallions for a taste kick. The thai ice tea was good. I wanted to take a nice picture, so I always appreciate if they don't mix the drink so I can see the layers. I would come back if I was in the area and didn't want the hassle of sitting in a restaurant. The space is small but it was not busy for a late afternoon!

Kobsupang R.

Yelp
If you're looking for some good & cheap dumplings & some Chinese food, you have come to the right place. Full warning though, bring cash because they don't accept debit/credit cards here. (Wha!? I know, right!?) So far I've tried Chicken Shrimp & Cilantro with your choice of steamed or Pan Fried (5 pieces/$4) which I chose steamed ones and they were really good! They tasted nicely with the sauce (not sure what it was, but it was not soy sauce -- kinda tasted like seafood sauce though) I also have tried their wonton soup (size S) for $3. It was alright, but hey it was super cheap! Last that I've tried was their Crab bun and it wasn't the real crab meat, just basically crab sticks with a tasty bun and some coleslaw. It wasn't bad either, but I probably wouldn't spend $4 for that again. Also, pretty small seating area, so if you go during lunch time, be prepared for a huge line because a bunch of kids from PS 51 also eat there. I've not yet gone there on the weekend, they have some specials so I might just check that out soon!

Kayo N.

Yelp
This little dumpling store is nothing extraordinary, but it gets the job done when you want to fill an empty stomach quickly and cheaply. I went in looking for a snack, and decided on the soba noodle salad (bland but relatively healthy option) and the duck bun (not as meaty as I'd like, but not bad for the price, either). There were a few seats at a shared table at the front of the space.

Kenny C.

Yelp
This place sells dumplings... and things. I got the pork/chive dumplings and the "melt in your mouth" pork belly bao. Dumplings come 5 to an order and you can get them pan fried or steamed. I went with fried. The dumplings were BIG and pretty full, but the skin was a little too thick for my liking. Similar to a pan fried bun. Speaking of buns, the pork belly bao was $4 for two buns, which was a pretty good deal. Could've used some more meat and some hoisin sauce, but for $4, I'm not going to complain. One thing I will complain about is it being cash only. But I guess at this price point, it only makes sense. A few tables inside for sitting, and all the sauces you could ever want on the table. Friendly staff.

Ellie T.

Yelp
Cute dumpling spot close by my apartment My favorite item in the menu is the duck bao bun which they only serve on Saturdays and Sundays! I would recommend anything from the menu. I like the pork chive dumplings I like the spicy pork dumplings I like the chicken and shrimp dumplings I love the pork bao I like the cold noodle with peanut sauce I tried the scallion pancake and I wasn't a fan. Also the fried dumplings are deep fried and not pan fried, so I get them steamed Cash only but I believe they deliver with uber eats The place is tiny and I end up taking it to go almost always

Tatiana C.

Yelp
I was a little disappointed with their dumplings. I feel like they were poorly executed. We got a large order and nobody liked their dumplings. Someone had a wonton soup and it wasn't all that I guess I had high expectations for this place. Probably won't be coming back, but thank you for the great service!

Peter D.

Yelp
The menu online must be some sort of template that they never filled out (assorted fruit, bagels and spreads for breakfast), because this is not that place. They don't do summer holiday barbecues with cole slaw and quesadillas...they make dumplings. And if you stumble out of any one of the bars in the area, it's tough to argue with the classics. Go pork and chive. Go fried. And soak up all the booze you drank, and go to bed burping up dumplings, but happy.

Heather R.

Yelp
This one my favorite restaurants in Parkslope to get yummy veggie soup with dumplings and noodle to go. I am never disappointed with the lovely simple soup which blends with there delish veggie dumplings. All the dumplings are freshly created on the premises of the establishment perfect. The soup always stays really hotttt even when I for a long Journey. (1 mile public transport). The soup was perfect for this rainy day.

Virginia R.

Yelp
When this place opened it was delicious. Everything was cooked to order and flavors were bright. Went in a few days ago after a long hiatus as I live in Philadelphia now. I was so disappointed: ordered the sesame noodles: they were packaged in plastic and taken out of ice cold fridge. Ice cold noodles have no flavor: ditto ice cold peanut sauce. What a shame. Inedible really.

Dan E.

Yelp
Located In the heart of the slope, I really was hoping for a great dumpling experience. Unfortunately, I did not find it. I ordered the beef noodle soup with rice noodles and the pork and shrimp fries dumplings. The beef noodle soup lacked anything exciting, and while the beef was tender it was rather unremarkable. The dumplings tasted doughy, bout did have a lot of meat inside. While I left feeling full and would go back only for the proximity to my domicile. With that being said there reason this place is left off all the "best dumplings in Brooklyn list", you don't have to look very hard or travel very far to get a better product.

Nia S.

Yelp
The dumplings are pretty standard and I'm ok with that. What I am not ok with is the customer service. I've ordered from here a few times and I don't find the cashier to be very friendly. I thought maybe that was just her personality, but I noticed she only skips the pleasantries when servicing people of my skin color. I will not be back.

Yadira R.

Yelp
Dumplings were very doughy and hard to bite; lacking flavor although I feel like it's because people might have complained it was too salty?

Shrabuny J.

Yelp
I honestly was expecting the worst reading these ratings, but the food was great quality especially for the price! I had the braised beef baos and the chicken, shrimp, cilantro fried dumplings. The only thing you can get thrown off by, is the dumplings aren't pan fried, but deep fried. Overall, the dishes were great. The dumpling meat was nice and juicy. The food came out quick, and the staff wasn't rude at all. It's a great place to get take out and it's wallet friendly. I'll definitely be coming back again!

Gee P.

Yelp
I think there's been a change in ownership/chef here. The change is not good. The dumplings are more like deep fried buns. The dumpling "skin" is actually very thick dough. There is definitely a change in seasoning and the flavor is gone. It's pretty bland. The noodle soup's broth tastes like water with a sprinkle of salt. The filling in the dumplings have a little more flavor...but not much. The sides are ok, but not marinated long enough. Again, like everything else, it tasted bland. I used to love coming here to pick up food and picnic in the park across the street. It's still ok in a pinch, but definitely not as good as it used to be a couple of years ago.

Ruff B.

Yelp
The dumplings are good. They are a little doughy but they are good with nice flavor. The scallion pancakes? Not so much. They were way tooooo doughy. I like a crispy pancake. These didn't have any flavor. It's no frills, just order and wait. They only take cash and the money transfer apps via a q code.

Marcin W.

Yelp
Overpriced and mislabeled. Ordered a $5 set of beef kimchi dumplings, no kimchi. Ordered a $5 portion of scallion pancake, no scallions

Jay W.

Yelp
Okay dumplings. The duck bao was my favorite of what we tried. The pork and chive dumplings and the spicy beef dumplings were about the same as most Chinese places. I was hoping that with the focus on dumplings, there would be something special here. That being said, I'll take an okay dumpling over no dumpling at all any day of the week. Super tiny place, seats maybe 8 people. Quiet, low key. Cash only.

Stephanie P.

Yelp
There aren't a lot of dumpling or bao options in this neighborhood (unless someone wants to enlighten me) and I was pleased a few weeks ago when I walked by and saw Dumplings & Things. First off, I would SO name a place this so I love their sense of humor already! Secondly, there is never a time that I am not in the mood for a dumpling. Dumplings are pretty much life and although I was actually on my way to meet a friend (Anna F.) for dinner I still had to stop here because, well, DUMPLINGS. I was with my friend Ingrid S. and since we were enroute to dinner we decided to split one lonely order of dumplings. At $3.50 for 5 I guess that's good for Park Slope, but I'm used to better prices (and quality) from Chinatown and Flushing...but I digress. Their staff was friendly and service was pretty quick so no problems there. The space is small, but cozy and welcoming. Dumplings & Things has an interesting selection of dumplings, more than your average pork n' chive dumpling shop. We ordered their chicken, shrimp, cilantro steamed dumplings and about 5 minutes later they were served. Their dumplings were plump and well packed and while the wrapping wasn't as thin as I prefer, it was too thick either - they also tasted as if they were made in-house...while I can't confirm that, they were delicious. The filling could have been better prepared or seasoned as it wasn't very flavorful. The chicken was definitely bland, but that wasn't anything that some soy sauce couldn't fix right up...Cholula sauce would have been even better, but they didn't have any...they need to get on that. In all I think Yelp reviews are mostly right on the money with this one. Decent dumpling place, beef baos look pretty good, the dumpling soup looks even better. I would return, but I also wouldn't go out of my way to do so. 3 stars.

Marlena K.

Yelp
Walked in excited to try Dumplings & Things after having a painting class across the street. I was not a fan of the pan fried dumplings at all. I ordered the vegetarian dumplings and they were very doughy and not flavorfull. There is not much to say other than doughy dumplings overpacked with scallions and overly salty black sauce on the side. I guess for around $4 what quality can you expect. They have seating inside, and a single bench outside. They have a large menu on the wall but nothing seemed very appealing. I will not be coming back. To the employee that stuck his bare full hand (no gloves) up to his elbow in the inside garbage can to squish the garbage down so more can fit while I was there please dont do that while costumers are waiting for food, just looks unsanitary. I will not be back, and you shouldn't venture here.

Christine L.

Yelp
Dumplings & Things was an AMAZING find. If you're in this area, you should absolutely go here.. this is why: - The buns are amazing. I had the pork belly and it was very very tasty. While it may not be a momofuku bun, it's also a STEAL at $3.25 - Everything here is so inexpensive - The dumplings are amazing. I tried them steamed and they are chewy and cooked perfectly. I had the veggie ones - I usually go for meat, but still enjoyed them. - Most people take food to go, but if you decide to stay there are two big share tables. The space in here is VERY small, so if there are a lot of people inside, I can imagine it getting a bit claustrophobic. Bring yo dolla bills ya'll, because this place is cash only.

Jen Z.

Yelp
Dumplings taste like frozen dumplings, not fresh. We tried the pork & cabbage and pork & chive dumplings. I like the thick northern style dough, but the filling tastes like poor quality pork that has been frozen for a while... honestly, can probably get better frozen dumplings at the Chinese supermarket. Also had the melt in your mouth pork belly bao - it was ok

Jacqueline O.

Yelp
This place is great for to go orders. Only two tables inside otherwise. Must try: Dumplings in hot oil Melt in your mouth pork belly

Peter Z.

Yelp
Only tried the pan fried vegetable dumplings, but they were very disappointing. Deep fried with lots of dough and little tasteless filling. Sauce with it was too sweet. Maybe they meat dumplings are better?

Mary P.

Yelp
Very cheap considering the area. Affordable. With the hint of Asian. That's what you get at Dumplings and Things. Nothing is going to amaze you except how much your meal ends up being. Don't go into it thinking they've won some food network challenge. It is what it is. Everything has the idea of being Asian inspired here but nothing is going to taste that true to home. Garlicky cucumbers are like weak pickled cucumbers without the spice. Dumplings are thick skinned and sort of bland without the vinegary soy sauce and lots of sriracha. The cold sesame noodle is fresh tasting with shredded carrots and cucumbers and a very watery peanut sauce and my favorite dish because its probably very minimal in calories and still basically satisfying.

Cody C.

Yelp
Maybe this place was better years ago. Right now it's very underwhelming. The dumplings are no better than what you can get at any cheap Chinese food restaurant in the neighborhood, and are basically the same price if not more. Dumpling sauces are quite bad, and no little bowl to dip in. Have to just put the sauce on the flat plate and dip like that. Hot green tea was served WAY too hot--so hot that it melted the paper cup and tasted like paper. Disgusting.

Caleb F.

Yelp
Pretty average Chinese food, but I would definitely come back just for the prices. Pan fried pork and chive dumplings had plenty of filling and looked like they were extremely crispy. However, once I bit into the dumplings, the wrapper was surprisingly uncrispy because the wrapper was too thick to be fried all the way through. On the weekends, they have the peking duck bao's. Way too little meat for the size of the bao and could use a little more sauce. The flavor was pretty decent though. I also only had $8 in cash and the lady was nice enough to spare me 16 cents.

Estee K.

Yelp
Ever since I've discovered this place on UberEats I've been ordering from them non stop. Way more than I should. My favorite go to are the hot oil wontons. I've sat down to eat in as well and received fast and friendly service.

Andres V.

Yelp
The dumplings taste great and the bao is good too but I feel like 4$ is as a bit too much since they aren't very full with filling but it's still tasty. Seating is limited and of course will be full during lunch time or any time on the weekends. And it is cash only. I think overall it's a good place for a quick small bite but not something to fulfill your hunger or a full meal because $4 for dumplings that won't fill you up will add up if you order more things. But I wasn't too hungry and a order of just dumplings can fill me up for a while.

Liane C.

Yelp
This place is exactly as advertised. They have a variety of simple dumplings as well as some things. These things are pretty good, but the dumplings are probably the best in the neighborhood. I've tried all of the dumplings - I think they offer around 6 types- and they're all delicious. My personal favorite is the pork and chive....always steamed. I found their fried to be a little too crispy. The sauce on the side is really really good! The bao is also very tasty here. I'm a fan of the pork belly. I've also tried the wonton soup and wontons in hot chili oil. Both were good. I would eat them again but they're not my favorite. Stop in for dumplings for sure...maybe have a thing or two. Like I said up top, the dumplings are the best in the neighborhood! Take note though that this place is cash only. However they are available on Uber Eats!

Leslie D.

Yelp
Greasy, thrown together mess! Dumplings were described as pan fried, but were clearly deep fried in old oil!!

Kay E.

Yelp
Love the A4 beef kimchi dumplings! I tried the A6 scallion pancakes today and they are different from Thai places, but still very tasty! I'm come whenever I'm in the neighborhood, they are consistently good & fast

Alexandra S.

Yelp
Fresh food with significant flavor! So far, this is the best Chinese food I've had in the neighborhood. It's easy to find great Thai or Viet in Park Slope, but hunting down a great Chinese spot has been tough since moving here. Definitely recommend the noodle soup and any of the dumplings. The garlic cucumber is a must have if you are going to order any sides. Unfortunately, only UberEats will deliver from this restaurant, and the seating is minimal at best. So that is why I can only give 4 stars

Chris M.

Yelp
Visited this place with girlfriend for lunch. We live in the Park Slope area and saw it but never tried, boy did we wish we found it sooner! We ordered the duck baos, a pork soup, and steam pork dumplings with chives...thought they were all delicious. Price was decent and we thought the quality was overall very good, this is probably one of the better dumpling places in the area. Just a few comments: the place is cash only which we found out last minute...the place did not have an ATM inside so we had to leave and come back. Also, there is little room for seating especially on the weekend, so expect to either wait for a seat or get takeout. Though a bit troublesome, very minor notes. Overall, we will definitely come back again to try the other types of buns and dumplings!

Rebecca V.

Yelp
I'm upset I didn't get to take a photo! I had the chicken, shrimp and cilantro dumplings steamed. The dumplings alone were delicious, but their sauce?! That pushed it over the edge for me of it being stupid delicious. I've been looking for a spot that made real ingredients within their dumplings and this place is it! I think the sauce has fish oil in it. That's gotta be their secte

Sohee C.

Yelp
Yummy Chinese food/apps at really decent prices even for Park Slope. Rainy afternoon called for some greasy scallion pancakes, fried beef kimchi dumplings, and braised beef noodles. I made the mistake of ordering the noodles without soup so it was bland, but sriracha came to the rescue. Cash only. Limited vegetarian menu. Casual joint.

April H.

Yelp
I came here the other night for dinner and got edamame and pork bao. I agree with Isabella on the summary of the "melt in your mouth" pork bao. It didn't have any type of sauce (hoisin, mayo or otherwise- although the carrots were pickled, but that couldn't save it.) The ratio of bun to meat was off, and the whole thing was killed by a landslide of julienned cucumber. Being served lukewarm didn't help either. But yeah, for $3.75 for two, that part wasn't bad. Also, the edamame were served cold and with no salt- like, refrigerator cold. It also seemed like they were raw, but I couldn't be sure. I now know they weren't cooked enough- when I took them home and steamed (and seasoned) them the next day, they weren't over cooked. They probably would have been had they been cooked the first time.
