How to Spend a Day in London for $50 (or Less)

"You could find an affordable bite in plenty of Chinatown spots. But we’d place our bets on Dumplings Legend, which draws on inspiration from southern and northern China. Expertly folded dumplings such as the legendary xiao long bao and stellar steamed prawn dumplings are a steal—and a set menu for one costs from $16.50."

The Best Chinese Restaurants in London | Eater London

"Dumplings’ Legend does exactly what it says on the tin: legendary dumplings in a flash. Walk in to the site of several pros hand-making and folding dumplings at warp-speed in a glass room. Eating xiao long bao dumplings (the speciality here) is a sophisticated three-step process. First: dunk the soup dumpling in vinegar dipping sauce; then carefully put the dumpling onto your spoon and poke a hole in the wrapper of the dumpling to release the steam and prevent your mouth from burning; finally, down the hatch in one. It’s pretty much like doing a tequila shot, but minus hangover and one very happy belly." - Angela Hui

Best Bone Broth, Soups, and Winter Warmer Meals in London Restaurants | Eater London

"The clue’s in the name about what to order here — and xiaolongbao (soup dumplings) are the restaurant’s speciality. A thin, silken dough forms a parcel for steaming broth and a variety of meat, seafood and vegetable fillings. Just make sure not to pop them and waste all that rich stock." - Daisy Meager

Absolutely loved my experience at Dumplings’ Legend in Chinatown! Yes, there’s a minimum order of £15 per person, but honestly—it’s worth every penny. The food is really, really good—fresh, flavourful, and satisfying. I especially loved the chicken dumplings (so juicy!) and the salt and pepper tofu—crispy, perfectly seasoned, and just yummy. What truly stood out to me was their hygiene and service standards. The staff are attentive and polite, and the place is spotless. My favourite detail? After each customer leaves, they replace the entire table mat—a thick tissue-paper-style cover—so every new guest gets a clean, fresh setup. No sticky tables or crumbs left behind. It shows how much they care about cleanliness, and it really adds to the experience. Highly recommend if you’re in the mood for quality dumplings and a tidy, welcoming vibe in the heart of London!

Google
Lovely restaurant, all of them took extra care of our 1.5 u daughter ❤️. Dumplings very good, don't miss out on steamed egg with scallops and truffle. They give a generous amount of scallop and truffle. Also the hac gao, crystal prawn large dumplings has about 10 prawns inside :o our daughter loved it and so did we.

Google
I went there to have my Chinese new year's dinner, and it has been the worst one in my life. The dumplings' flavoring is alright, but the skin is too thick! The soups are good, frankly speaking. The seafood with noodles are eatable. The main dish, fish, is the most horrible fish I have ever eaten and I never knew in a Chinese restaurant they can provide such a terrible fish. It is very white in color and has a fishy stinks. I got enough after one bite!

Lovely Malaysian, Singaporean restaurant in China town. Authentic cuisine with depth of flavours. Good menu selection. Staff friendly and polite. Happy to return to sample more of the menu. Would recommend the Laksa

Google
It was so delicious. Best soup dumplings. So friendly, courteous service and kind souls inside there. Loved it. We get our food fast. You can also watch how the dumplings are made

Google
Had the xiaolongbao and roast duck — both were good ! Loved watching the dumplings being made through the open kitchen. However, the place gets busy, so service is a bit rushed, but the food definitely makes up for it.

Google
Came here with my partner, and we love dumplings and we were not disappointed!! Everything was delicious! Good price too! The only reason I gave 4* for service is because one of the staff looked fed up and brought us the bill without us asking (we still wanted more food). Everyone else was very nice and friendly and fast service. ☀️

Google
It’s pretty pricy compared to my local dim sum but when you take into consideration it’s in central and in Chinatown you can see why. Although the food was delicious and bigger dumplings than my local. Service was good and atmosphere is ok. I’d go back to try more stuff for sure.

Yelp
Was in London for a little over a week and went to Chinatown a few times. This was one of the less enjoyable places. We went about 2pm on a Tuesday and they seated us at a very small table for two. I asked to sit at a table for 3 knowing we were going to be ordering multiple dim sum dishes and the woman was VERY RUDE and said no. The table I asked for remained empty our full meal and our table was jam packed the entire meal which made it uncomfortable to eat at. As for the food. It was standard dim sum. The shumai was my least favorite of the dishes and my least favorite in Chinatown that week. The soup dumplings were good. Some of the reviews compare them to din tai fung... I would say they are comparable. The pork was crispy but the white rice under it was dry and not very good. For me the pork ribs with black bean sauce were the star of the meal but definitely not a choice for everyone as they have bones you need to spit out. The service was not great UNTIL the waitress changed to a waiter. The gentleman that took care of us 1/2 way through was great, quick and helpful. Also very nice. But the three woman that we interacted with were just rude. Pricing this place is not a cheap eat for dim sum. I wouldn't recommend and I would go somewhere else. I would not go back.

Yelp
Located in Chinatown in London, Dumplings' Legend is popular Chinese Restaurant with a lot of tourists, even on a Monday mid-afternoon. After checking into our hotel in Leicester Square, we wanted something to eat in the nearby Chinatown, and this place popped in a blog about good places to get cheap(er) food in the area. We love XiaoLongBao, and can get really get versions of it where we live. Came around 4, and it were seated right away and given both a large laminated menu, and a sheet for different dim sum that you can order. It is very nice inside, modern. The dumpling making team was on display behind a glass shield, making various things. We ordered 4 things, all from the dim sum menu. Seafood Congee (£9.30) - really good, chicken broth congee with small chopped pieces of shrimp. Can be split between two as an app. Pork XLB (£11) - 8 pieces of really small dumplings, well-steamed to melt the gelatin to make the soup, but the tops had not been closed completely. Expensive. Cantonese Shrimp dumplings (£4.90) - basically three pieces of har gow. Really good, and should have gotten more of these. Crispy noodles with seafood (£14.90) - a lighter sauce, with big pieces of seafood on top of some crispy noodles. Tasty, but it didn't really go a long way. We also got some hot tea (£1.50 a person). It was fine. You can pay by card, and is done at the table. They add a 12.5% service charge, which I think is reasonable and eliminates the need to debate if a tip should be given for great service. (The service was OK...efficient). In summary, the food was tasty, but the portions were small (we were able to easily finish the 4 dishes between the two of us) and wasn't inexpensive. We saw a ton of different Asian restaurants as we were walking here, and we'll a lot of them in the next couple of days.

Yelp
The crispy duck and pancake were 19 out of 10 good! The dumplings were legendary! It is I. A tourist area but we are tourist after all! My family enjoyed everything we ordered and staff were very friendly!

Yelp
I've got to be honest, for me, the Chinese food in London is a tad disappointing. I know there's a fairly large community but for me, it just misses the mark. We came here to grab some dim sum and see how London does it. We got the usual suspects - buns, rice rolls, dumplings and overall it was uneven. Rice rolls were excellent especially the shrimp and fried dough ones. The pork ribs were good as were the beef balls. Buns though were below average and tasted like supermarket buns. Their soup dumplings were just odd (maybe its a British thing). The regular pork was just so-so but here they also had versions that included the mala spice which just didn't do it for me. If I want Sichuan fare, I'll get it rather than settle for some weird concoction. The mango pudding and coconut pudding were also pretty bad since they were grainy. The worst thing was the shrimp dumplings which maybe are a different version of har gow - they used dumpling skins instead of the usual thin clear ones and it wasn't good. Service here is really friendly and good however. The staff here is really friendly and helpful and that's a plus. Restaurant was clean which is tough for a high traffic eatery. Food was just meh but the people here are great.

Yelp
Wow! The food was amazing! Really fantastic and some of the better Chinese food we've had in some time. Everything was really really good. XLB were only slightly below Din Tai Fung, not quite as thin wrapper, but great soup inside. All the other dishes were really great flavor and we loved it and recommended to others who were looking for great chinese as well. Definitely go check this place out, you won't be disappointed!

Yelp
Dumplings are exactly that- legendary! Would highly recommend. Fun area is a bonus. If it's good enough for the king and queen, it's good enough for me.

Yelp
My fiancee loves this place and raves about it. He's been telling me about this spot since we started dating so it was cool to come here with him while joining him on a business trip to London a few weeks ago. We were easily sat inside, in the back room, at a very small table for two where our waitress quickly took our order and our roast duck was out within minutes to be carved table-side for us to watch. First, they cut the crispy skin off, then they carve the fat off the meat, then they put the skin on top of the meat and serve it to you to be enjoyed with the other items you chose. After you are done - they take the remainder of the duck and make a rice/meat mix and bring it out to you with lettuce to eat lettuce wraps - this was beyond delicious and I enjoyed it more than the first part which you ate with a dough wrap. We also got broccolini, soup dumplings, and rice. Service was very friendly and it's located in the extremely busy and popular China town of London which was cool to see anyway. The duck was by far the best I've ever eaten and the soup dumplings were excellent, prob my favorite part.

Yelp
We came here after completing a 5K at Hyde Park, and ordered more than our stomachs could handle. No regrets though. All the items were delicious. Solid 4 stars here in terms of food taste, quality, and service. The number one stand out item was the chicken and corn dumplings, which isn't a common dim sum item. This dumpling was fantastic, and is on my must order list from here. We also ordered bbq buns, lotus leaf rice, two rice rolls (one fried donut and one prawn), shu mai, pork and crab XLB, and roast pork rice.

Yelp
Would Not really call it authentic Asian food. It was okay. Not bad not good. But for my Asian ethnicity background tongue it was not up my expectations. Soup dumplings (we had pork and crab meat) are not bad. The beef noodle soup was okay. A lot of Beef but was not tender so I guess they didn't cook it together with the broth. The broth lacked a bit of beefy flavor. The pork pot stick rice was mediocre. Not worth ordering. The peking duck pancakes were crispy and had a nice salty flavor. But felt like they could have been more generous with the meat portion.

Yelp
An overall disappointing experience for a restaurant with such high ratings in the Chinatown area. Came here for a Tuesday night dinner and while we sat right away (large party of 15) the dining experience was so poor. We were split into many groups and the servers took the orders of some tables but not the other causing some folks to receive food, others to have to wait until the others had already paid their bill. Food itself was really mediocre. We ordered everything from dumplings, fried rice, wontons, chinese brocolli, mapa tofu. Nothing was really flavorful -- lots of dishes were overly sweet. The xiao long bao that they are known for had nearly no soup inside of them and were super tiny. I think the appeal of this spot is that they have a glass window that shows you workers diligently making dumplings by hand but taste wise, but other than that -- the food is again, very mediocre.   Don't let the ratings fool you. Also, while a lot of authentic chinese restaurants aren't known for their friendly service -- this location might be on another level. We literally got ignored, given the hand multiple times throughout the night.

Yelp
This place was on so many recommendation lists so we had to check it out. The spicy beef noodle soup was wonderful. The largest bowl! It was a lot of two people. The dumplings were also really good. Prices were a little high for what you get but the food was still good.

Yelp
***3.5 stars We were craving some Asian food after several days in London so we decided to try this restaurant. After walking around Chinatown, we chose Dumplings Legend since there was a long line. We waited about 15 minutes before being seated. They have a security guard out front to direct foot traffic and to greet customers. The interior is spacious as they have two levels for dining as well as a bar area. We arrived around 8:30pm so it was peak dinner time. The food is not the same standards as in the states but it's passable when you're traveling. We chose several items to share family style. The portion sizes are much smaller which was ok for our party of four. For our dishes we had: :: Pork XLB (soup dumplings) not that good. Dry with no juicy filling. ::Stir fry eggplant in garlic sauce - flavorful. ::Salt and pepper bean curd - tasty but loads of addictives. ::Braised pork belly - not tender, undercooked. Strange sweet after taste. I wouldn't say this place was on the authentic side but it was satisfying when you don't have options.

Yelp
Delicious food. Great variety. Scallop with glass noodles is a single portion (warning) but tasty. Spicy duck dumplings nothing special. Prawn toast epic. The crab & pork amazing. The sweet & sour pork puffs okay -- not exciting or puffy -- a lot of pastry and stuffing tasted BBQy. Service excellent (except when we lingered after paying to finish our drinks & were asked to leave). Its a typical busy dumpling restaurant with lots of tables close together and bustling service. White table clothes. Not fancy.

Yelp
Writing this post as a tourist coming to London on vacation. Since Chinatown was so busy on the weekends, every shop had long wait lines. My friends and I decided to go to Dumplings' Legend and it was good for a quick bite. The dimsum dishes were average, nothing too special. If anything, try their congee! The environment inside and the server themselves were a good experience. Overall, I would try it and come back for a small bite, but not for a full meal.

Laura M.

Yelp
We were very happy with the quality and speediness of the food. Employees so hard working and efficient. We actually dined two evenings in a row just to have xiao long bao again.
google avatar

Yelp
Very authentic Chinese food at reasonable price. The service is great. There is always a friendly gentleman greets guests at the main entrance. I have been here every time I visit London. Highly recommend this place in the crowd of many chinese restaurants here.

Yelp
I would avoid, no idea how they are so well regarded. We went for dinner. Food never came despite the manager telling us "5 minutes. Kitchen got busy" over and over. No entree ever showed up. No apology. No nothing. Appetizers looked nothing like the menu pics and were not good. I wouldn't go back.

Yelp
As a foodie Asian-American visitor, it is really difficult to find restaurant that conforms to our taste palette which usually involves salt, seasoning, fat and spices. We have been to multiple restaurants (non-fine dining) and this spot is by far our most satisfying food experience in UK. Good customer service! Our server was very accommodating and friendly. We ordered the following - Shrimp Dumpling - Pork Dumpling - Stir fried Broccoli - Shrimp fried rice - Salt & Pepper Pork - Peking Duck (steamed pancake is not the soft buns. fyi) - Beef Noodle Overall, fully satisfied with their food and cleanliness.

Yelp
Clean, bright interior, much bigger than it actually looks. Quite festive for the holidays. Food was decent. We ordered soup dumplings, which were pretty inconsistent (some dumplings had more soup, some were too soft, etc.). The bok choy was soft and cooked well but pretty flavorless. Service was alright -- the food came out fast (which was nice because we were hungry), and when I went to go to the bathroom a waiter immediately pointed me in the right direction. But the moment we finished eating, it was very clear that they wanted us to leave. As I was sitting at the table waiting for my boyfriend to come out of the bathroom, multiple people came to collect water and the tablecloth, and change to a new tablecloth. TLDR: food was decent and came out fast, but we were chased out of the restaurant equally fast.

Yelp
Dumplings' Legend was highly recommended to us by multiple sources, so we decided to give it a try... Overall it was just good, but definitely nothing special. Located in the middle of London's famous Chinatown, we were excited to check this place out. But coming from Houston, Texas, USA, our Asian food standards are set really high. This place just fell a tiny bit short. I'll admit it was cool seeing them make every dumpling by hand especially when they have a huge, extensive menu as it is. We ended up ordering their stir fried mixed seafood noodles, special yang zhou fried rice, spicy eggplant in garlic sauce, spicy pork xiao long bao, steamed prawn dumplings, and their half crispy duck/half bbq pork belly meat plate. Everything tasted pretty good, but nothing really stood out either compared to other Asian restaurants we've been to. I liked that their noodles had a lot of seafood, and their fried rice had good size shrimp in it. The eggplant dish probably tasted the best, but it was just overly oily. The xiao long bao and prawn dumplings were tasty, but I think the wrapper was a little on the thick side. The duck/pork belly was really good though especially with the sauce they put on top. And since we ordered family style, we expected bigger portions, but that wasn't the case. White rice isn't free like it is at other Asian restaurants. And be sure to look at their paper dim sum menu that you write on, their physical book menus don't show all of your options. Overall it was a solid meal in China Town, but I'd be more inclined to try somewhere else first before coming back.
google avatar

D L.

Yelp
Terrible service. Ordered the set menu. And was asked by the server thrice if we had eaten certain dishes before they started making the next course thus delaying the entire meal. You would think for a 80$ meal for two they would be able to keep track of what was brought out. Dishes were alright but the portions were small. Basically it's a tourist trap in a good location relying on a noticeable name.

Gustavo N.

Yelp
No so legend...it was a standard menu, nothing special in China Town. High expectation considering the name of the restaurant.

Yelp
My family and I planned a visit to London's Chinatown and heard raving reviews about Dumplings Legend. Coming from Houston, we frequently visit Asian restaurants. We ordered dumplings, shrimp fried rice, lo mein, pork belly, and egg plant. I guess things really are bigger in Texas because, while served family-style, we thought the portions were a bit small and the white rice wasn't free. The flavors were decent, but we thought the dough of the dumplings were a little too thick. We also didn't realize that on their menu where you check off which dumplings you'd like, more options past their regular menu seemed to be offered and would've ordered from there instead. If we ever return to London, we'll probably opt for a different restaurant as they're Chinatown seems to have a large selection of Asian restaurants.

Linda C.

Yelp
Dumplings were very good. The spicy beef noodle soup was very tasty and spicy. The fried rice was so bland, we had to asked for soy sauce. I felt it was missing a taste , like garlic salt. Besides that, all the dishes were very good. I would have preferred if the cut the Chinese broccoli thinner so it could be easier to eat as there was no knife that can cut it to chew! Definitely recommend to try for the dumplings and beef soup!
google avatar

Emily B.

Yelp
BEST SOUP DUMPLINGS IVE EVERRR HAD!!!! 1000/10!!! Also the stir fried noodles are amazing too!!!! My friend got the beef soup and it looked AWESOME too!

Jayson A.

Yelp
Pork soup dumplings (spicy and regular) were legit. As was the spicy beef noodle soup -split it. I went here because it's the twice removed location of Warren Zevon's Lee Ho Fooks in Wherewolves of London. But it's a standalone great place song or no song. Highly recommend hitting this place up before or after a show.

Yelp
We were walking around London's Chinatown around 11PM and most stores are already closed, but we found out that this restaurant closes at around 3AM. It was convenient for me since I was jet lagged and have been eating "dinner" at around midnight. We sat down right away and I ordered the Pork Xiao Long Bao, Spicy Sichuan Wontons, and Chinese Broccoli. My boyfriend got the Chicken Fried Noodles. It was really good as I expected it to taste like any other Chinese places I've been to. It was kind of interesting to me that in the spicy Sichuan wontons dish, there were tapioca balls (boba) in it... I mean, I tried it and it was good, but I was just confused as I've never seen it like that before. I really enjoyed the food and the service was decent up until it took us about 10 minutes to get someone's attention to ask for the bill. Everyone there has tunnel vision or something!! We just wanted to pay and go home and wasn't sure if we should just stand up and go to the front to pay. Overall, the food was great and pricing was decent. I will come back if I'm ever craving some Xiao long bao!
google avatar

Pier L.

Yelp
I have a very high tolerance for service and hospitality. It is tiring work so I try to understand as best as I could but I called today to check if they can do reservations for 2. A woman on the phone started screaming at me like I'm crazy for even asking. Her tone was very derogatory. She ended screaming at me "We only do walk ins for 2 people, MY GOD!!" It was honestly the rudest encounter I've ever had. I was only politely asking a reasonable question. Lady, if you hate your job, QUIT!
google avatar

Yelp
The good news: the beer is cold, and the wait wasn't too bad. The rest of the story: I came here because I wanted Xiao Long Bao and the place I love (Beijing Dumpling) was actually sold out. I should have just gone without. I ordered the shrimp toast, the crispy duck and one order each of their 4 varieties of XLB. The shrimp toast was ok. The duck was so over cooked and dry that I sent it back. But the real sin was the XLB - about 1/3 we're broken when they brought them. The rest were literally touching each other so you couldn't remove one without breaking the one next to it. Out of 32 Bao I found 6 with soup in them. If you don't know XLB the whole stinking point is that there is soup in them! In a neighborhood with close to 100 Chinese restaurants, you can safely skip this one.
google avatar

Ronald W.

Yelp
Just order the Xiao Long Bao. I had the spicy pork XLB and it is delicious. Unfortunately I ordered the quarter crispy duck and that was totally dry. Yes it was crispy, but just really bad. The XLB is not as delicate as Din Tai Fung, but it is cheaper (at least compared to US DTF prices) and a spicy version is a good variation.

Will W.

Yelp
FOOD POISONING!!! This is the worst Chinese restaurant I ever been, it is a shock that such restaurant is still open! My family went to the restaurant yesterday (9th Feb.) and all of us got food poisoned! I vomited three times yesterday evening! My parents and wife all got diarrhoea problem the whole night! We are 100% sure that we only had food from this restaurant yesterday! The food quality is poor!

Yelp
My boyfriend and I arrived to London after midnight and were looking for a restaurant to eat at near Soho. Luckily, Chinatown is right next door! We saw that this restaurant was super crowded even at 2am so decided to give it a try. It seemed like this was the place a lot of people come to after a night of going out. We got mapo tofu, soup dumplings, and a mix of grilled pork and peking duck. The mapo tofu is amazing - the best I've ever had! You can really judge the restaurant based on the mapo tofu since it's one of the most basic dishes that a lot of restaurants tend to mess up. The soup dumplings were really juicy and meaty. The pork/duck were tender and savory. Honestly, this was such a solid meal at 2am and would love to go back when I get the chance to return to London!

Marla L.

Yelp
Terrible Dim Sum. Lacked flavor. When we realized the food was terrible and tried to cancel the remainder of our order, they wouldn't allow. a complete waste of money. Avoid at all cost!!!
google avatar

Lucas W.

Yelp
Three stars seemed maybe a bit harsh, or maybe it was just that I was craving Chinese food. Two dumpling/bao orders and three entree type orders was plenty for the three of us. Started with the aubergine in garlic sauce with minced pork and chillies. It was good, I hadn't really had it before so I thought it was very good. The other two of us thought they'd had better. Then came the dishes I knew - the green beans with ounces pork and chillies was solid, though nothing standout. The Szechuan chicken with peanuts was disappointing as the chicken was fried which it didn't say it was and it's usually not fried. Would not get this again The dumplings came later and were better than the rest of the meal - as would be expected for a place called dumplings legends. The pork and veg gyoza was tasty and the pork bao was also very good. With getting again Might go back, might not.

Yelp
It was getting late in Chinatown and we were craving dumplings. We saw that this place was full of people so we decided to give it a try. Food: We ordered the Spicy Pork Siu Loung Bao, steamed prawn dumplings and Shanghai-Style Fried Noodles. The spicy pork Siu Loung Bao was nothing more than chili sauce and it was way too watery. The steamed prawn was the best of the three but the skin was thicker than I would have liked. The shanghai-style fried noodles was over sauced. Service: Outside the door said "10% off the bill of you pay with cash Monday-Thursday." We asked the waitress about it and got an eye roll. We paid for meal in cash and got multiple one pound change. We then went to get dessert at a near by place and tried to use to the change we received. We found out that the change was older currency and they would not accept it. So, we did get the 10% only to be SCAMMED a few pounds. Terrible service is one thing, but you can tell they aren't very trustworthy people by the way they acted. Price: Overpriced subpar chinese food that you pay for sitting in a nicer restaurant. This place didn't impress us and we don't appreciate them giving us old currency. I don't recommend this place at all. Don't be fooled that this place always looks full. There are plenty of other food options nearby.

Yelp
Gave this place a go after reading numerous articles about how Dumplings Legend's dumplings are some of the best in town. We came on Tuesday afternoon and were seated immediately. We ordered xiao long bao, prawn dumplings and half an aromatic duck. The xiao long bao was mildly disappointing. The soup was thick and slightly bland. The pork was as expected. One order came with 8 dumplings for £8. The prawn dumplings were mediocre, nothing exceptional yet still very satisfying. One order also came with 8 dumplings for £8. Surprisingly, the duck was the best part of the meal. It was crunchy and extremely flavorful. I'd compare it to carnitas in texture. Accompanied with thin pancakes, cucumbers, green onions and brown sauce, it was just an amazing amalgamation of flavors. The service was great, very quick and friendly. Price point was also great, I can't complain about 8 dumplings for £8. But considering we went here to try some of the best dumplings in London, I can't say my expectations were met. For better and cheaper dumplings, I'd recommend going to one of the smaller dim sum shops right down the street.
google avatar

Ines C.

Yelp
How can people hate on this place? All the dumplings you want and more at super reasonable prices. Always busy but never more than a 10 min wait on the weekends. Go for lunch as this is when they s the most of their dumplings on the special menu that you tick things off. Besides dumplings, their veg is always good but will considerably bring up your bill. Very efficient staff!

Yelp
Despite the mediocre reviews, this place was packed for a Wednesday night. Probably helps being in the center of London's Chinatown. We ordered several dishes- XLB's, peking duck w/ pancake and bbq pork over rice. They were all fantastic, wish I could say the same about the bill but 40% of the cost is for picking a place in the center of London lol. (This is a late review from November 2017 btw)

Traci D.

Yelp
The only thing I would say is there must be better. They were rated ver high on trip advisor and you can't always trust the ratings. Yea all home made and fresh but not knowing what to order service was lacking and we had to had the sheet for our order up front. The soup dumplings were disappointing and I search for a place that had great ones and they did not. Dough was thick and gummy and lacking flavor. The fried rice was just ok and not what you expect and the pork belly was 10 percent meat and the rest fat. So I would say try another place

Yelp
I confess, in the past I would have given 4-star review to this place, but the last time I've tried to have a decent dinner here on a Sunday night I was surprised by how the quality of the dumplings have decreased, and that the service is even more confusing. When we arrived it was a little early, the restaurant was far from being full. We were three people and they sat us in a table for five, which was fine for us. A little after we ordered the food and received our drinks they asked us to move tables, but to a table that could barely fit two people. In our previous table they sat a group of six kids, and from their look I can assure they were not happy, it was obviously too small. The dumplings were OK, I have had better dumplings there in the past so I was not very impressed. Location wise, the place is great, right in the middle of Chinatown and only a few blocks from Leicester Square station.

Yelp
Tourist and XLB lover in london, craving for Chinese food, busy holiday dinner time. We were quite impressed by the service and food. XLB - we had regular pork and crab, I personally like the regular ones better. Not sure what other reviews were talking about, but the quality of the wrap itself already impressed me - thin, all perfectly wrap (not broken) and XLBs are SUPER juicy! Cripy duck - we order a 1/4 and amazed by the quality and the portion. They were simply yummy. My little one and hubby both loved it with the wrap. Spicy food and fried rice - average, I wouldn't recommend.

Yelp
I've been here twice now and both times I really loved the dumplings! The whole concept of the store reminds me about Din Tai Fung with a show-kitchen where you can see people filling your dumplings...this is really cool. Like I said: soup dumplings have been very good both times. In fact, they're actually quite soupy and the flavour is also very good. As for the rest of the dishes...let's put it this way: they should stick with making dumplings! What is really off-putting as well is the amount of tourists that come into this place...it just feels like a factory more than a true local place. The whiteness of the clientele is then only exasperated by the awful white interior. In fact, I was here with two Asian architects, who simply could not help but complain about the awful design! So, let me recap: do go here for the soup dumplings (xiao long bao)...and maybe also have a couple of appetizers, but I cannot really recommend any main dishes...

Yelp
Don't be impatient and look elsewhere because of the line. Line moves fast and the staff have the routine perfected. Dumplings were yummy and if I hadn't be solo would have ordered more than just dim sum to enjoy the full menu. Highly recommend if you want a good meal and atmosphere in Chinatown London

Yelp
Let me preface this review by saying that Xiao Long Bao is my LIFE so I have extremely high standards for it. I'm not entirely sure about the standards of XLB in London so I'm definitely surprised to hear that Dumplings' Legend offers some of the best in London after my meal. I haven't tried other XLB to compare but I'm sure this city must have more amazing XLB to show! Overall - 4 stars because the XLB were great, don't get me wrong, but they weren't out of this world and this city definitely deserves better! ~ Atmosphere: Incredibly hectic. The place was packed FULL, overall not too pleasant of an atmosphere to eat in. ~ Customer Service: I've had a different experience to other reviewers - the customer service here is great. Very attentive and quick with their service. The food came out at the speed of light. ~ Food: We ordered both pork and pork and crab XLB - both of them were really great and juicy, but the broth inside was just OK. I much preferred the pork and crab to the pork-only because the crab added an extra dimension of flavour that took their XLB to the next level. Overall, I liked their Xiao Long Bao but if you're a self-proclaimed XLB connoisseur like me you should keep searching. Downsides: Ordered their custard buns, it wasn't custard but salted duck yolk (which I like, but definitely not custard so I don't know why they advertised it as such). Also, they don't offer Chinese hot oil at all unfortunately, only soy sauce and vinegar. Not too great if you're into hot oil like I am. --- I like Dumplings Legend. I would say that they're more of a 3.5 stars, but I'm happy to bump it up to a 4 because I don't think it's quite there to justify a 3. The food was great and I'd definitely come back here again, but the search for the best XLB in London continues on.

Yelp
Definitely pretty tasty dumplings!!! Must get obviously. Fried pork chop fried rice - pork chop is def not what you expect. More like a katsu. Fried rice - yum!!! Shrimp shu Mai - yum! Nice and big too. Comes with 3. Fried salted dumplings - too small and where's the meat in it?! :( Won ton with noodle soup - not too shabby but nothing that wows you. Overall, I would come back as it was good service, spacious and clean for a Chinese joint!

Yelp
Eat here a lot because my daughter loves the soup dumplings. I usually find them too thick and stodgy. However, this time they were fabulous. Much much thinner and far more flavourful. Service which is usually quick but unfriendly was much improved too. Very chatty and friendly. We ate outside due to covid and the new option to sit in the street (with the other restaurants in Chinatown doing the same.). They suggested we try the fresh watermelon juice which was excellent. Overall really pleased with our lunch, it was an enjoyable experience.

Yelp
Not sure why this place has a low rating but I absolutely loved the spicy pork dumplings and the roast Peking duck with rice. The service was prompt and the food was delicious. You can see the dumpling making process live (Din Tai Fung esque) just to add to the charm. There are so many restaurants in the China town area, I just went with a recommendation from a London blogger. She was spot on with her review.

Yelp
My favourite restaurant in Chinatown! Be sure to get the pork xio long bao- they are made fresh with a juicy and flavourful filling. On my recent visit we got an order of the Taiwanese three cup chicken which was also quite tasty. Have previously ordered the quarter crispy duck which was quite dry. I recommend sticking to the dumplings! They are open super late on Fridays and Saturdays (until 3am!) I'm looking forward to returning to try the dimsum menu, served until 5pm daily.

Yelp
Wonderful. A casual place with excellent fresh dumplings. One of the best "Peking" ducks I have ever had- properly carved table side with plenty of authentic flat pancakes and fixings (better than many of the Peking duck restaurants that I frequent in Beijing). Coming from the San Francisco Bay Area, I had low expectations, I thought we had the best Chinese food outside of China- but I was wrong. This restaurant beats my favorite San Francisco places! Two minute walk from the theater district- perfect place for a dinner before a show.

Yelp
This is by far my favourite place in Chinatown, because this is where you can get the freshest hand-made dumplings ever. It is quite a large restaurant and it is probably always busy so you might have to wait a bit. While waiting you can already check out the small dumpling-kitchen where thousands of dumplings must be made daily. The menu is a bit confusing and not completely consistent with the DIY order list but if you don't know what or how to order just ask the staff. If you want something special and you know the name but you cannot find it on the menu just ask and probable they will just bring it. It would actually help if you know a bit what you want or otherwise just try to be seated next to some (Chinese) locals and copy ;-) I was graving for dumplings so only had a nice variety of the fresh dumplings but I will definitely come back soon to try the dumpling soups and the steamed filled buns which looked amazing at our neighbours tables.
