Dunhuang and First Lamb Shabu Expand to East Village - Eater NY

"Dun Huang is a Chinese restaurant that specializes in hand-pulled beef noodles in a radish beef broth with chili oil, beef, green onion, and cilantro. The menu also includes spicy cumin lamb burgers, popcorn chicken, and big tray chicken. It is located in the former Angelica’s Kitchen space and has additional locations planned for the Upper West Side and Clinton Hill." - Stefanie Tuder

Very good northern Chinese food. Came here as a group of three for Saturday lunch. Not crowded and the service was attentive. We ordered several dishes as the portion isn’t large: Those we like: mutton on the bone and monstrous plate chicken. The mutton was fresh and tasty. Be mindful of the reasoning on the side as it is super salty - a little bit would do. The chicken was great! Greasy, yummy and a little bit spicy. The noodles on the bottom soaked the flavor well! Those are just so-so: Mung Bean noodles and lamb rice pilaf. The rice was very little portion and would fill probably just one person, though the taste was good. The bean noodles was average, nothing special. Price is a little high, but consider their location it is still a fair one. Would recommend this place!

This was recommended by my Chinese friend and the food is authentic and very flavourful. The noodles are especially good and you can even choose the thickness. If you like spicy food, this is a good place to check out! It was interesting that we had to cut the noodles with scissors which I’ve never experienced in other Chinese restaurants. The fried chicken wings are not very good and rather plain. I suggest focusing on their specialities.

3.16.19 - first time there and arrived around 3 for late lunch, not crowded at all. We did not realize they already had other locations throughout NYC and one in NJ. Noodles are very fresh and the texture is slot on. Dish N1 is superb; its balanced soup base is highlighted with fresh cilantro and spongy noodles. The beef is tender, the skewers are just right, and the they gifted us lamb skewers, which were tasty and a nice touch! All in all this was a great spot for authentic clean food from Northwestern China. I will repeat. 5 stars generally reserved after repeat visits or obviously firing on all cylinders from the start.

Great place! Had hand-pulled noodles in beef soup, grilled spiced flatbread and flower herbal tea. Loved all three items. The flower-herbal tea was particularly delightful on this frigid day and better than excited! Affordable authentic western Chinese food in a great location, great interior ambience with a nice view by the window. Highly recommended!

Wow. We went here on a Thursday night - we had a group of six and everyone arrived at different times. However, they were happy to seat us as we arrived. (We did have a reservation). This is a relatively small restaurant and all the staff were super friendly and helpful. Everything we had was excellent and authentic. I only really have two complaints - one is we ordered appetizers and soup and then entrees and everything arrived together, very quickly. It would have been nice if the appetizers and soup had arrived separately. Also, even things that were marked spicy were not actually very spicy. However, this may have been because we had children with us who didn't want spicy food - we ordered items specifically for them though. A few standouts - the eggplant salad. My daughter refuses to have eggplant at home. She ate three pieces of the eggplant salad. It was cooked perfect - often eggplant is overcooked, or rarely undercooked. This was a perfect level of firmness. The Lanzhou Beef Noodles. The noodles are made in house and they are great. The broth was perfectly seasoned with a variety of comingled flavors. The beef slices were tender and plentiful. The fish. Perfectly crispy skin. Flaking meat. Great flavor. This is what I want every time I order crispy fish in an Asian restaurant. The price for 6 people came out to just over $20 per person. We will definitely be back!

Delicious new western Chinese option. The place is very accessible and the waiters are friendly and happy to explain the choices. There's plenty of choices that are vegetarian or can be made so, especially if you don't mind meat broth. The beef noodles are great, as are the wood ear mushrooms. The cold noodles didn't do it for me.

I prefer their location in Flushing a bit more, but still loved their noodles here. The noodles texture are great, and the broth is flavorful. The pickled cabbage was definitely better in Flushing though. Overall, a great choice in Manhattan.

Delicious and legit northern China flavors, reminds me of my visits to Lanzhou. Best Lanzhou noodle I've had outside of Lanzhou. Very good service, too! Overall very impressed!
