Dynasty Typewriter

Venue is ancient and has been in LA for God knows how many years. The staff is professional and courteous. Seating is equally old but manageable even with my disability. Loses a star because honestly the area around it is going downhill real quick. Had to walk through multiple homeless encampments and the exterior smells of urine. That's not the venue's fault but my wife commented that she'd never come here alone at night.

So FUN! This place is Quirky. If you like quirky, you'll love this place. It's one of those places in LA where you'll feel like you found treasure. My friend, bought us tickets to see Kevin McDonald and his rock opera. It was an AWESOME night. Laughter is the BEST.

I really liked this venue! Recently went to a comedy show there and the atmosphere was perfect, spacious and clean! The staff is great. Loved their drink selection and they have popcorn! like going to an old movie!

I love this little gem. I wish we had something similar in the PNW. I flew in to see Doug Jones host an Untitled Improv show with Lilly Sullivan and a few others. This was one of the most hilarious improvs to date. The theater is quite small, but has a charming vintage touch. The chairs allow you to extend forward for comfort and it's pretty much a first come first serve basis. The staff here is also super nice. I look forward to returning and checking this out again.

I have to say I enjoyed this place more than I imagined. This is an old school small theater that hosts a great crew of stand up comedians. The owners are a show on their own and the crowd is super friendly. At the concession stand you can buy candy or popcorn topped with gummies. They also have some beers and wine in a can. Great time and I would definitely recommend it.

Amazing theater with amazing comedians. We've seen some truly special shows here. The popcorn lives up to the hype! One of my very favorite comedy venues in LA.

What a quaint, run down, gem of a theater perfectly meant for start up performances. Located in industrial LA, you might mistake the Dynasty Typewriter as an abandoned theater. If you walk in you see a time piece of a venue. They serve light snacks and basic beverages both regular and adult. Reasonable prices would return for the right performer.

Ok, can we just talk about the magic of this little theatre!? Hidden gem doesn't even begin to describe what this is. It's a whole vibe. A carefully curated universe in and of itself. Shoutout to the owners Jamie & Vanessa. They made a home for comedy that embraces it in all of it's permutations across all genres. With shows 7 nights a week! If you're into the sort of thing where you can see your favorite artist perform in an intimate setting, have a drink and the most rapturous popcorn experience of your life, then this is your spot! If you're visiting from out of town and need that one-of-a-kind-only-in-LA comedy experience then do yourself and your social feed a favor and go see a show here! There's no other venue like this in the world. "And that's the Dynasty difference ™"

The Dynasty is a wonderfully small theatre tucked away in Los Angeles. It's got a bit of an old time movie theatre vibe (which I think it actually used to be) with it's popcorn & concessions stand right as you enter and it just ads to its wonderful charm. The seats might not be the most comfortable and they might not be the widest, but it really fits the vibe of the whole place. The sound & lighting is great and honestly, with the exception of the possibility of sitting behind a really tall person, there isn't a bad seat in the house. You could be in the last row or the front row and you'll see whomever is on stage perfectly. If you're looking for street parking, that could be tough. I parked at a structure around the corner just out of ease. I will say, however, that when I went they were having you pay up front & the person working said it was cash only. I'm not sure if that's always the case, but I was lucky to have just the right amount of cash on me to pay for parking. Maybe make sure you have some bills on you just in case.

Dynasty Typewriter is unlike any other comedy club venue I've been to. I went to see Anna Akana on a Tuesday night. PARKING The Athena parking lot on the same block and charged a flat fee of $14. You can pay by card or cash when you exit. The surrounding area is a bit sketchy. FOOD/DRINKS Guys.. the POPCORN ($5) was soo good. I got the Hot Cheetos and M&Ms toppings ($2 each); there were also popcorn seasoning available for free. The drinks are normal overpriced LA prices - I got a beer for $13. The good news is there is no minimum. VENUE It was open seating, so I recommend coming early to claim a good seat. It's very INTIMATE and small, and very clean. There's only 2 restrooms so it gets crowded immediately after the show. I'm not a huge comedy club fan, but I'll come back if there was a comedian I would want to see. It is a smaller venue so most of the headliners are not as mainstream.

Came here for Comedy Pole Show and the venue and performances did NOT disappoint!!!! Tickets were only $40 but the lineup was incredible! Cameron Esposito! Jim Jefferies! Maz Jobrani! Plus an amazing lineup of incredibly talented and professional pole dancers who left me in awe. The theater itself is lovely. There is a small concessions stand filled with quirky beers, popcorn and various fixins, and all the liquid death you could ever want--I was very pleased. The seats are very small and have a tendency to scooch with you if you move around at all so be aware of that lol try not to bump into your neighbors as best you can. The show itself was very high quality, you can tell Christina puts a lot of care and thought into curating the comedic and aerial acts. I will definitely be back again!

Saw Melissa Villasenor here for Netflix is a joke week. This was my first time at this venue and overall the venue was nice, small and intimate. Parking was kinda sparse but since it was a Sunday we were able to find parking. There is street parking with meters up and down the street and a lot around the corner (same block as the venue) that had parking for 14 bucks. Cons: not in a good part of LA, felt very unsafe in the area and really dirty outside. The venue only had two small single restrooms which the line was way too long. The drinks were $13 each for a canned cider. I'd come back for the small intimacy of this venue for a big artist here but other than that probably would choose to go elsewhere.

I went to Dynasty Typewriter to see a comedy show. What a great theater!! Having never been there, I was not sure what to expect. The service was outstanding as we were greeted by everyone who worked there. The concession stand had interesting choices. We opted for the popcorn with hot cheetos mixed in. It was great! We had wonderful seats for the show, though almost any seat in there would be good for comedy. And as we were leaving, one of the employees (Missy) said she hoped to see us again. She also gave us a great tip about parking in that area. Thanks Missy and we look forward to returning for more shows!!

Great little theatre with super fun popcorn toppings and canned wine and libations. We went here to see a comedy show and loved the intimate seating, the stage, the concessions. We found street parking on a side street.

The area outside surrounding the theater is, shall we say, dicey! Parking garage on the corner was great otherwise I doubt we would have parked on any nearby street. The theater itself was fantastic! Cute lobby area selling merch, drinks & snacks. The reclining seats were an unexpected bonus! You have a great view of the stage from almost any seat. Lightning and sound were excellent. We spotted a tv star in the audience which was another fun bonus.

Cute little venue with so many great guests! Looks like they have a different show every night, and they all seem so inventive and unique, so there's gotta be something for you. Only negative was that finding a seat was a little hard once inside because there's no assigned seating and people tend to leave a bunch of little gaps.

Revival of the Hayworth offers a good consistent lineup of standup and performance art characters. This theatre is very intimate and feeds into Los Angeles's live performance genre well. This venue is an excellent alternative to the already crowded scene in other ritzy joints.

My family saw Marc Maron here in July and had an absolutely wonderful time. The chairs have a recline that will surprise you, as many old theatres do. Egress was easy with the size and layout of the venue. The space is small and has some of its historic charm, and the staff is kind and quick with questions and thoughts. I had a hard kombucha that I absolutely loved, and the popcorn smelled fantastic.

Decent sized smaller venue with robust programming, there is always something happening at DT. The concessions stand has great canned alcoholic beverages as well as a variety of sodas and even the fancy Compartes chocolate bars. Parking is notoriously difficult so pad in some extra time.

This place is wonderful and perhaps my favorite venue in Los Angles. Downside right upfront: The neighborhood rolls up the sidewalks at 9pm. No walkable hangouts after the show. The upsides are numerous: Top level talent from $15-$30 bucks, themed popcorns that delight, near the B Line MacArthur Park station, alcoholic bevs in the 5-10% range, strange plumbing themed mascots, chill vibz 4 dayz, and the general feeling you are watching the future famous.

I recently saw Atsuko a few nights ago at the Hayworth - my first time going to this venue. Very cute and creative, love the vibe. They have an extensive drink menu, and they even carry Topo chico like what!? Seats do this this little slide thing once you sit down so it makes them more comfortable. Parking is lot around the corner or street. Would come back! Love it!

Dynasty Typewriter is a great intimate venue to see amazing talent. We caught tonight's show with Rachel Bloom, which was outstanding. We arrived around 30 minutes before the show, and got great seats together. I did notice the folks who arrived closer to show time had trouble finding seats together. There is plenty of metered street parking, as well as a $10 lot around the corner. The venue sells popcorn, candy, and beer. Bathrooms are clean, but there can be a line since there are only three unisex ones for the whole theater. I was a little confused by the reclining part of the seat, but it was comfortable. I can't wait to come back and see more shows here.

Standing in line waiting to get in sounds like a fun half an hour to catch up with your friend... only there was a homeless person circling on the bike and occasionally bumping into people, including my friend. Inside, they had an employee to direct people to the bathroom only he didn't take into the account my huge pregnancy belly and wanted to make me wait. The person he called over from the other end of the hall insisted I go in first. All that said, it is a historical theater with a cool LA vibe, it's worth checking it out when you come see a show!

Great spot to see some amazing comedians! I love the wide selection of drinks and snacks. The candy-topped popcorn is an absolute must. The seats are a lil scary and just suddenly drop down when you take a seat, but otherwise it's a great spot. The decor is cute and the location has a convenient parking lot just around the corner.

(this review is very late) Pros - $8 and street parking available - cool shows/acts - owners are extremely nice and care about your experience That being said, I like the venue, (although much smaller than I got from pictures) and I like the vibe and it was a good 420 show my complaint though would be about how the ticket prices were described online and what we received for it. I was debating between general admission at $10 or VIP for $35, and altho a jump I bought 2 vip tickets so both my friend and I could get "early entry, preferred seating and a goodie bag"

Smallest seats in Los Angeles. I'm shocked at the 5 star reviews. Great vibe, the best comedians, great staff but the seats are criminally small. I'm pretty thin but I could barely navigate in and out of the seats. My friend is slightly larger and could not move at all. He was so embarrassed and saddened by the experience. Even Comedy Store and the Improv have more room in their seats. It's such a bummer because I love the lineups at Dynasty but would never go back, even for a freeshow

Everything about this place is great! Two friendly women at the front checking vaccine cards and letting us know about other businesses in the area. Snack bar as you enter that sells popcorn, candy and specialty soda. Small Popcorn $5 sour patch kids $3. The inside is cool. Capacity is 200 so wherever you are you'll have a good view. We saw Scott Seiss and my jaw hurts from laughing so hard. Would definitely return to support more comedy shows in the future. Note: no bar or hot food, so eat before as there's not any options nearby. There is a liquor store a couple blocks away for pre gaming. Got free street parking a block away but it is a bit tricky. As we drove away it looked like most of the crowd chose the $10 lot nearby. This place is up there with Wiltern and El Rey as a top LA venue imo.

A great intimate theatre. We came here to see Adam Sandler and made sure to show up early since we had never been here and didn't know about parking. There is a small lot around the corner which was $10 if I remember correctly. We stopped at a bar located next door to get a few drinks then made line about 30 minutes before the show. So the show did start a little late because they were cleaning everything inside, this was right when the Corona virus outbreak was getting big, so it was not a problem and appreciated the extra effort they took to make sure we felt safe. Once inside it is first come first serve so if you want to get a front row seat show up early. We were about 3 rows back and had a great view but even if you are in the back it so small you will still have a great view. The seats are a little weird but were not a deal breaker. Other then the weird seats I loved this venue and hope to come back soon to see more shows.

This place is a gem. I wish I lived closer! A small neighborhood theater, with a kitschy lobby and friendly staff. Plus affordable tickets, ye gods and little fishes. We saw Rachel Bloom perform her one-woman show and it was a perfect venue for her - an intimate space, with a respectful and happy audience.

It's an old fashioned, intimate, stage/venue with movie-theater seats that can sort of recline. I liked the Saturday Dynasty Tonight Comedy show I went to.

If you're looking for the best theater in LA, the Pantages ain't it, babe -- it's The Dynasty Typewriter. You truly never know what you're in for when you buy tickets for a show here but one thing is for sure, it'll be a good night. Jaime and Vanessa will make sure of it. From celebrity spots to pizza parties, I don't know if I feel like a grade schooler who wants to live in this place or an adult who truly knows my way around (maybe that's the point?). It's whimsical, fun, and communal. Take your friends, get the beer with the rabbit on it, and laugh away, bestie. And if you're out there, f*** you, Ken.

This place is ADORABLE. Go, see anything, and get the popcorn. Trust me on this. I don't even like popcorn. But when it has M&Ms in it?! You betcha. And they have great acts there. I would give it all the stars, but the seating is too tight, as someone else commented, and they should do something about that, and make it more accessible. I hope this place stays around.

Great spot for comedy. Friendly service and clean facilities. We arrived very early thinking there would be a spot nearby for dinner. However, we quickly discovered that the closest spot was blocks away. They do sell a variety of flavored popcorns, drinks, and candy if you're not too hungry. There is no parking lot but there is quite of bit of street parking after 6pm and a parking garage around the corner off of Carondelet St closer to 6th. Tickets are general seating, first come first serve, which worked out well for us because I ended up getting there really early.

Not my first time at The Dynasty Typewriter theatre. Came Saturday August 20th for the Dynasty Tonight show, hosted by VANJAM, and stayed for the breakup exorcism which took place after the main show for anyone who wanted to stay. A seamless blend of horror and tragedy mixed with comedy, an emotional rollercoaster and every bit as terrifying as the movie. Dy-namic exorcism music from house-band the Dy-Nasties! Always an a-list night of comedy with random big comedic surprise appearances, Craig Robinson surprise drop in last time. Never disappointed, always fun & truly enjoyable.

I came here for the first time to see stand up by Atsuko and really loved it. She is super funny and had a solid set. Since it was her bday, she also had a lot of free food, which was a nice touch. The Yelp check in is free popcorn, which is yum. It's the same kind at movie theatres, Disneyland, and car dealerships. The place holds about 100 people I think in the theatre. They have 2 photos booths, one free, one paid. Free street parking nearby as well. There are a couple of shows I want to watch, so I need to come back. Glad I discovered this gem.

Have been quite a few times and the quality of shows is top notch. We've never once been disappointed. The staff is also wonderful and the Dyna-Popcorn is rad. We went last night and saw Lauren Lapkus and Paul F Tompkins do 90 straight minutes of hilarious improv. So fortunate to be in LA!

Awesome friendly staff. We had a blast!!!! An inexpensive way to spend an evening listening to comedians work out their acts. Great snacks, drinks etc. I can't recommend it more highly if you want a casual night out. Dinner before or after in the area, then get ready to crack up.

I went last Saturday and had an amazing time! The line up was amazing and I was so excited to see Sarah Silverman! All the other comedians were great too. I love how the owners truly cared for everyone who was there and throughout the night thanked everyone multiple times. They ended off the show by buying everyone pizza due to parking being worst than usual. I can't wait to go back and bring my friends to this amazing experience!

What a wonderful little theater (less than 200 seats). Nicely appointed, clean, and comfy with a wide variety of performers including some world class talent like Eddie Izzard prepping for his European tour. There's a little concessions stand as you go through the lobby with reasonable prices and salty popcorn. Covered parking is available around the corner on Carondelet St. If you're looking for drinks or snacks before/after your show, La Fonda is immediately next door. If you need a more substantial nosh, walk to the other side of Macarthur Park and hit up Langer's, an L.A. classic.

I came here for a comedy show and was thoroughly impressed. There were 6-7 comics who did 15-20 minute sets. They were all fantastic and I was laughing harder than I ever have. After the stand up comics went, the headliners, the Lucas Brothers took the stage. The venue is the perfect size, not too large or small, with a very intimate feel. There isn't a bad seat in the house. Parking could be better. I lucked out and found a meter on a side street. I believe there is a nearby structure for a flat fee as well. They also have valet as an option.

These guys are so lovely and friendly and the venue is gorgeous! I love the smell of popcorn !

Great ambiance and really enjoyed the comedic line up. House band, The Dy-Nasties, was a big plus. Definitely recommend and would go back!

Talented comedian line up, laughed a lot, felt safe & had a great time. Being in the theatre you feel a sense of nostalgia. Proof of vaccination required with valid ID matching vax card & temp check prior to entering. Arrived 20min early & easy check-in. Parked 2 blocks in meter and did not have to pay. Mask required and one empty seat separating you from another party. Chairs slide like old movie theatre seats and comfortable. No alcohol, concessions include: popcorn, canned sodas & candy.

We just celebrated new years eve there and were so impressed! Really appreciated that there were so many activities, bingo, magic show, stand up comedy, magic show with stand up comedy, photo booth, dance floor with DJ. Great music! Popcorn stand.. free pizza and champagne at midnight! Also super appreciated that there was a free coat check at the door! Real good vibe place. Our group of friends had a ball! Couldn't have imagined a better place to spend NYE Thank you Dynasty Typewriter!!! We LOVED it! And will definitely be back :)

Just saw Maria Bamford at the Dynasty Typewriter! It was their biggest audience since the re-opening! What an awesome venue. What an awesome show! Super friendly staff. Love this place.

Dynasty Typewriter is an excellent venue with a really great intimate vibe - and great curation of artists/comedians. British actor/comedian Rich Hardisty performed his extremely original and hilarious but emotional and uplifting one man show. A must see!

This is a great theater. It has different type of shows. The Los Angeles guild of puppetry and The Puppet playlist from New York performed today. I loved it was great and enspiring. As a amatuer puppeteer it encourages me even more

Great theater - The first show I saw was Dynasty Tonight when I went to see Joel Kim Booster and Nick Kroll ended up being the special guest! They have consistently good lineups; the theater holds ~200 seats and the seats are super comfy. Love the popcorn and the ambiance. The owners are so nice and the photo booth and tablet in the lobby are fun additions. On occasion my friends have been able to find street parking, but we mostly end up parking in the structure behind the theater which charges a $9 flat rate.

This theatre is amazing because of the people who work here. Yes, the seats are comfy, the lighting is great and the sound is excellent, though the magic that exists within these walls are Vanessa, Jessica, Jamie, Frank and everyone else who puts their heart into making this theatre a gem. We bought tickets for a handful of shows and reached out to the staff to help us with a physical disability we often deal with when attending live theatre. They took all the stress away and gave us an experience we don't normally get to share together. We are forever thankful and will return many more times!!!

We came to see one of Eddie Izzard's shows and had a great time. First off, the staff is amazing and some of the nicest people. We got some popcorn and it was really good. Though it would be weird to eat it and make crunching sounds during a show. The venue is pretty small. We sat in the front row and had to look up because the stage floor was almost eye level. People didn't begin showing up until close to doors opening. The only downside is the 3 single use restrooms create very long lines. Overall a great place to catch a show!

This is the most magical comedy venue in LA by far! I have been a number of times and it is always fun. The owners focus on creating an experience that can't be topped. Do yourself a favor and check it out!

My boyfriend and I spent New Years here. The event sounded so much more fun on the website than it actually was. It was really lame. Everything was hyped up, made to sound so great but they did not deliver at all. The "close-up magic/variety/comedy show" was literally like 15 seats in a super tiny ass room with a sad curtain backdrop. Three dudes came out, and one did like 2 magic tricks (a string trick, and a rubber band trick), the other two cracked some jokes and that was it. The dance floor was small and cramped. They had bingo (or "Dyngo") going all night, and the prizes were like stuff you'd find in the lost and found bin. The guy running the bingo games even said that himself! He probably wasn't wrong. There was a selfie set-up with no props except random skeletons (probably from a Halloween event), a corner of a room (actually it was the stage where the sad dance party was happening) where people were doing jigsaw puzzles. There was a small room near the "magic/comedy show" room with some guy talking about music, I didn't quite see what was happening in there because the hallway was way too stuffed with people (fire hazard, much?). All these activities were really cheesy. My boyfriend bought us VIP tickets ($75!) which included little party favors like a pencil, a small notepad, a popcorn cup for unlimited popcorn, a rock for a "midnight seance" and a 10 cent party hat from Party City. On the website, they said we'd be given a crown, not a lame party hat. I was looking forward to a crown, just saying. The price for those tickets was totally not worth it, at all. There was a small snack counter for said popcorn, candy, and drinks. They had a full bar in another room next door, which was totally overpriced. At midnight, they gave out small cups of champagne and then free pizza afterwards. It didn't feel like a party, it felt like a really sad high school dance/event. Boyfriend and I didn't enjoy ourselves, it was quite cringeworthy. I can't speak for past events, but if they were anything like this NYE event, I won't be attending future events.

I bought 2 tickets for a show last Thursday night and was told they were all General Admission. We stood in line for over 30 minutes before the doors opened and were shocked to see most of the seats taped off for the "friends and family" of the act we came to see. At least 3/4 of the seats (and there are NOT many because it is a very small space) were not for the ardent fans who stood in line! To add salt to the wound, there was no wine or beer to make the horrible situation of racing around to beg for seats any easier. They have no liquor license. I would never recommend this venue!

Avoid this venue if you can. Seats are very very old. Made for people under five feet five inches. My knees were crammed against the seat in front of me. The are rickety vinyl seats the raise in the middle so you're always sliding to the sides or at an angle slanting toward the row in front of you. Crappy acoustics too. Pointless ushering. It's generally a mess.
