Edna’s - Review - Long Beach - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"A great spot for an affordable lunch in Long Beach, Edna’s is a Filipino restaurant serving all kinds of classics. The woman serving your food also likely made it, and she’ll guide you through her favorite combinations of the moment (and probably give you a couple samples along the way). You’ll order a variety of stewed meats like pork adobo and dinuguan (pork blood stew), which they serve over vegetable pancit (noodles) or garlic rice. Combinations are all somewhere between $4 and $9, so expect to find yourself here twice a week. Don’t forget to add on a couple shrimp lumpia and pork sticks, and a banana turon for after the meal." - Brett Keating

Best Filipino Restaurants in Los Angeles | Eater LA

"Open since 1991, Edna’s is well-known in Long Beach for its inexpensive combo plates in a low-frills but colorful strip mall space, offering plenty of rice alongside staples like chicken adobo, pancit, and more. One’s eyes might quickly gravitate toward the glowing, crisp pieces of lechon kawali and fried chicken skin that add extra crunch to lunch plates." - Emily Joy Meneses

Google
This cozy joint serving Filipino food is one of my go-to when craving Filipino home-cooked food. I don't usually eat Filipino food unless it's made by my family, however, this joint is pretty close. The 2 side combo plate with lechon kawali - crispy pork belly, and dinuguan, a savory stew with pig ear and meat simmered in a rich, spicy dark gravy of pig blood, garlic, chili, and vinegar over white rice is as close to authentic like how my family makes it. I loved the pork belly for the crispy skin. The dinuguan, often referred to as "chocolate meat" is rich and savory and has unique flavors.

Google
Authentic filipino food restaurant. Food is flavorful. Great price for a combo. I ordered the pork belly with rice and noodles. Very good but I wish they served it with a fried egg on top. Other than that i'd come back again. They have parking and restrooms.

Google
Real Filipino food. Some plates seemed very fresh, but others looked quite old.

I fell in love with this place. I was looking for a gas station and was hungry and I found this little cozy place. The people were very welcoming and the food is full of flavors they had alot to pick from but they allowed me to even try some fried chicken skins! I am definitely coming back and with my family.

Google
Really good Filipino fast food. Good quality meats and veg and very tasty. One of the better Dinuguans I have had. The neighborhood is like a little Manila and there are bakeries, shipping companies and eateries all packed into a few blocks.

Google

Google
A really wonderful surprise. Was craving authentic Pinoy food and I'm glad I stopped here after work. Yes the food is good but the service makes the food taste better!

Yelp
Ordered a dish called Turon, fried banana or plantain, whichever, it was so good. Has a caramelized glaze. Ordered 40 for a work luncheon and my coworkers devoured it.

Yelp

Yelp
I was originally planning to go to hong Kong express until I stumble upon this restaurant. This place is a great place for authentic and delicious Filipino food. The staff were really friendly and the place itself felt homey. It's definitely a hidden gem.

Yelp
This is for the TURON. 50 crispy, flaky perfectly fried sugar crusted rolls filled with banana and jackfruit for $30. It filled my car with a lovely funnel cake aroma and was a hit at my friend's birthday BBQ. Much love to the Edna team for taking the order with no advanced notice. It was so fresh and delicious! Not too sweet and the fruit was nice and tender but not overcooked. The way they wrapped the rolls resulted in a satisfying crunch along with some nice croissant like layers when you bite into one. Great packaging in foil covered cardboard. Filipino ingenuity providing sturdy & good insulation for the trip.

Yelp
My brother and I were really hungry and I suggested Filipino food. I Yelped Filipino food and this place was one of the choices. So we decided to come here. The restaurant: It's a hole in the wall place. It seemed ok so we wanted to give this place a try. The food: The food is sitting under heat lamps, just sadly sitting there waiting to be scooped up on to a plate. A lot of the food looked not fresh and not so appealing but I still wanted to give it a chance. The only food that seemed freshly made was the steamed rice but everything else looked old. My brother said it looked like recycled food! The food wasn't even hot. It was lukewarm at best. I had a soup which tasted old kind of fermented, the beef steak was salty, the kare-kare flavor was good but the food was not hot at all. I don't know if that is how Filipino food supposed to be eaten lukewarm? Because I really didn't like it at that temperature. The noodles were cold I wish they were hot. The staff: They were very friendly and kind. Conclusion: Unfortunately I cannot recommend this place. The staff were very nice though. It's just the food did not sit right in our bellies. My brother said he felt sick. Plus they can do better in their cleaning practices and keeping the food at safe temperature guidelines.

Yelp
There is nothing like authentic tasting Filipino food and no, not all Filipino food are created equal. I had their egg roll and kare kare with a side of white rice taken to-go. It was delicious and so filling. I couldn't put down the egg rolls and the vinegar that came with it, hands down, one of the best i've tasted. The rice was cooked perfect, it wasn't mushy and there was still a bit to it. The veggies in the kare kare soaked up so much flavor. The prices are affordable and parking was easy! I'm definitely coming back and bring everyone I know!

Yelp
One of my favorite lunch spots! Reminds me of my Dad's cooking - so fresh, nourishing, and tasty! I love the variety with their turo-turo (point- point ) selection. Today I picked up Diniguan, sinigang, pinakbet, lechon kawali with mang Tomas sauce, & steam rice! So delicious! Great friendly staff, reasonable prices, and delicious entrees! Check them out! Definitely worth the visit.

Yelp
It's not much to look at from the outside but the food is tasty and portions are ample. We usually rely on home cooked Filipino meals when we need it fix but this is a tasty alternative. Staff was friendly and offered to make a dish from scratch when we didn't see what we were craving.
google avatar

Nai Seng S.

Yelp
I was setting up the Grocery Outlet right there on Willow St and this place was always super reliable. Their Pork Adobo with Lechon Kawali and rice dish . Totally recommend, it's in a small plaza.
google avatar

Yelp
Edna's Filipino Cuisine is a small hole in the wall in Long Beach offering a Filipino food for some great prices. Their combo 1 is $5 and combo 2 $7. You can pay 50 cents extra for lechon and all noodles. Filipino food can be quite pricey at times and so I was pleasantly surprised with their good deals. It's always nice to see affordable Filipino food. On my trip here they had a variety of well known Filipino dishes such as fresh lechon kawali, bbq pork sticks, menudo, pancit, tinola and menudo. I chose to get bbq pork stick and lechon kawali. Their combo 1 comes with one bbq pork stick. The bbq pork stick was actually my favorite. It was very lean and good in flavor. The lechon kawali was also not bad. I could tell they just fried it that day and it was quite crisp. Very decent lunch for a decent price, I was a fan. For dessert, I got their turon. The banana egg rolls were also not a bad deal for 50 cents each. Just like the lechon kawali it was freshly fried and nice and crispy. Overall not a bad place for some Filipino food and for a very affordable meal.

Yelp
If you love Filipino goat dishes, this is the place to go. I drive an hour just to get my fix of kilawin and papaitan.
google avatar

Thomas N.

Yelp
Decent food for the price. Great customer service Small family shop that includes not just food but lottery, western union business like a small convienance store . Food was ok. Was hoping for a hole in the wall kind of authentic and flavorful meal. Not too impressed but for the price ( pick 3 meats which include half rice half noodles $10.99 )it was reasonable. Looking for parking you have street and some off street space. If you're looking for cheap eats and a full stomach then give this place a try.

Denice S.

Yelp
Food is good, service is great! I will definitely come back often! The pork adobo and fried pork belly was amazing!

Great night of eats and laughter.

Yelp
Let me start off by saying the food was great, abundant, well displayed, very tasty, well prepared, and kept me wanting more. Until today or this event. I had really not tried Filipino food. I had tried Filipino barbecue. Though that was something different. This event bright light into my eyes and a whole lot of tasty food into my mouth and stomach. The event was hosted by Kristine and Vince. But I have to say Kristine did all the cooking and the Display and presentation of the food. No Knock to Vince. I know he did a lot also. I believe he helped the event happen. But thank you to both. For now I have another type of food that I will crave for. When I arrived. Vince was there to let us in. Since it was a private event and The restaurant was closed. At the time Kristine will still bringing out food. The restaurant already smelled delicious. And a table look very presentable. But I didn't know that she was not done bringing out all the food. In the next 20 minutes. The food has doubled. Luckily I had gone there hungry. But I knew I cannot eat that much. Now thought some may argue about that. But the food coming out. Sausage, shrimp, fish, eggrolls at least I think that's what they are, a crispy Pata, There was mushrooms, eggplant, tomatoes, broccoli, small meat egg rolls, skewers, Fried pork, there was desert, even ice cream, I know there is more stuff but I can't recall at this moment. Since all of us were yelpers. We had our phones out taking pictures taking videos. Finally all the food was out. And we all sat down. And the phone went away. I had mine out still. I didn't know that you eat with your hands. I learned very fast. Put my phone away. And I commenced to eating. I kept a good pace, I believe I put a good dent. I even left my leave clean. I tried everything. Some stuff I didn't ask what it was. And some that I did I still ate it. I found it all tasty. The drinks those are amazing. The purple one is a Taro horchata. I love that from the beginning. I had three of them OK four. But who's counting. Kristine introduced me to the green one. A coconut water and I don't remember the rest. It was refreshing I liked it. Later I tried the orange one. After tasting it. I grab two. It was a melon drink as in like a cantaloupe. It was so good. Had pieces or strands of melon in it. A new found love. So by now you would think we will be stuff. And we are but there's more stuff coming out. Like dessert. Now they have banana Frita. Which means fried banana which is super Yum. That is where names for them other stuff there also Yum. By this time might have a food coma.but I think I'm just getting delusional. I was holding back but Kristine had to pull out the ice cream. She went after my weakness. Now I love ice cream but I don't like all flavors. I'm basic I like my vanilla mix with different things. Like fruits and nuts and stuff like that. But the ice cream she brought out I never had and it was good. I had the melon is a green melon that was really good and then this one, it was a jackfruit flavor. And I don't know what a jackfruit is. She told me had nuts in it. So I tried it. It was good I still don't know what jackfruit is. But I know if he's good. There was a purple yam also and that was good also. But later I have a little bit of coco Rico. A coconut flavor ice cream. She put on my make up and told me I had to try it with a banana frita. And I did. It was super yummy. By now I'm overly stuffed. But the apple of my mouth and put me on the roaster. I am beyond done. Food wise I had reached my limit twice. Now this event was not just about food. It was about friendships. Most people knew each other. I I knew only three. And 2 were newer than the first one. I made new friends. And I guess that's as great as a great meal. Before leaving we all took a picture together. It was the selfie. And if you notice. We are all stuffed but we all have big smiles on our faces. So to end it, this event was about friends family food. Thanks again.

Yelp
what a great treat! Kristine did a great job creating an authentic kamayan filipino dinner. she made everything from the garlic rice, bbq sticks, shrimp, pampano, eggplant, pork belly, crispy pata and more! we all ate with our hands as traditionally done. She even had a taro horchata drink, melon drink and buko pandan drink. To top it we even got ice cream from manila sky!

Yelp
I guess when it comes to restaurants like this - it's a hit or miss with the quality or the timing of the freshness of what's offered or being served. The first time I cam here, it wasn't a pleasant experience. Today's lunch though, was definitely an improvement. Walking in, I could see that most of the serviing dishes looked to be fresh and it was. I had a one item combo ($4.50). Rice and Pork Adobo. The Adobo was tender, juicy and not too little, or too much vinegar. I would have loved to see more fatty pieces but I was happy with what I got. And I got a lot for less than $5 - take a look at the photo. No Air in the dining room - it gets warm so either dine and dash or wear comfortable, cool attire. As for parking, it shouldn't be an issue in the strip mall lot or the lot next to the Tambuli Market. Street parking too but it's on Santa Fe - a lot of fast moving traffic.

Yelp
Yummy food and great customer service. We ate here after being on a cruise for a whole week and was really missing filipino food. Everything we tried was great, the prices were awesome. Felt like we were eating at a family members home, very inviting service.

Yelp
The Lumpia here is horrible I had to throw out the whole tray of Lumpia they were chewy and extremely oily like they were cooked in old oil or maybe just leftover from yesterday and refried again and the boiled peanuts were also disgusting I do not recommend this place at all

Sammie S.

Yelp
So while they have a variety of food for great prices I'm disappointed at the fact that they serve their own before customers that have been waiting. How do you allow three people that were after me to get their food first/pay??? I can understand some Tagalog even if I am not Filipino... and I don't appreciate having others cut in front of me. I had to constantly poke my head up just to get my order.

Yelp
Great customer service. Good food. Friendly atmosphere. Very professional and prompt catering services. I highly recommend them for your next party or event.

Yelp
Cuteness Filipino food on Santa Fe very good food for us but usually don't have one I'm looking for but the service is good pricing is great and they have lots of lots of food when they give it to you

Yelp
When it comes to Filipino food, I'm extremely picky. I think any Filipino would be. I usually do not like other Filipino food other than my families. Edna's Filipino Cuisine definitely hits the spot! From the ulam to the dessert, you can't go wrong! If you're looking for an authentic home cooked Filipino meal, try Edna's!
google avatar

Yelp
Well, I just ran down here to pick up a pig. An entire pig! My neighbor has ordered it for her 50th birthday luau. And this review is about their customer service. The pig was ready on time, and the kind owner helped me load it into the car. It's 70 pounds, so I definitely needed her help! They were super kind and threw in a bottle of dipping sauce. I also had a jackfruit treat on the way out which was delicious. Now on to party!
google avatar

Yelp
I super like this place! Dinuguan is the best!!! I feel like I'm in manila when I am eating here...
google avatar

Yelp
LUMPIA LUMPIA. You get a great deal for a container of 50 and can mix and match meat and veggie egg rolls. I eat here a lot. And its right next to Tambuli, a great Filipino grocery store, too.

Yelp
How I missed Filipino Food. The food Tatar fresh and hot! Service was great and honest. Will sure come again. I love the free drink if getting a combo.
google avatar

Rod D.

Yelp
This is one of two Filipino restaurants on Santa Fe Avenue. They're directly across the street from each other. The food is served Chinese/cafeteria style (meaning they cook the food in batches and then leave it in food warming containers all day). You look through the glass and pick what you want for your one or two item combo. I went there to get Adobo chicken and they didn't have Adobo chicken, so I left. The place is large and in a so-so area. I'm not super pressed to go back, as restaurants shouldn't run out of chicken (it keeps too well, so there's no reason not to keep lots of inventory).

Yelp

THANK U ERIC T. for telling me about this place :) i can never find this kinda palaboc n yay! i now know where to get it!! its soooo yummy. i dont care too much for the other dishes cause i guess im so used to my moms filipino cooking that any other dish is just not as good as my mommys:) but the palabok, IT IS YUMMY :) yay to ednas! for having my kind of palabok!! the parking sucks though, lol. its small.

Yelp
My cousin and I were craving Filipino food. Though not too far away we were not really excited to drive over to Cerritos to satiate our palate. Thank goodness for Yelp which directed to this side of LB. The store itself is not easy to spot but when you see Luisa & Sons, it is in the same plaza. The stores here a so much more outdated but I was just excited to give it a try. I was however a bit dismayed with the food looking greasier, seemed dry and overcooked thus unappetizing for someone hungry. Nevertheless, I ordered the dinuguan and monggo being my top favorites to go with my daing na bangus we already have at home. Sadly, both the dinuguan and monggo scored a disappointing 4-5 on my scale. My eyes did not fool me the first time I walked in. Ohhh well. Thank God for the daing na bangus that saved the day. Overall, I am unsure I will comeback here. I think I'll cross the street to the Hapag Kainan first before I come here.
google avatar

Nick M.

Yelp
Worst Filipino food ever! I think the food tastes bland, like it's not fresh and the food has been reheated from the previous day. I would suggest going somewhere else much better. I think the neighboring Filipino establishments are much tastier and tastes like they were made fresh during the day and not reheated, plus they give more extras and have nice people behind the counter, who don't look grumpy all the time!
google avatar

Jovie Y.

Yelp
I loved their lechon kawali at calderetang kambing. Dinuguan has too much vibegar i think cuz its too sour. I ordered bbq stick too 3 pcs for $5. Great deal though. :)
google avatar

Cathy L.

Yelp
Having a filipino best friend and having date a filipino for a long, long time...I get mad filipino food cravings. If I can't get my fix from someone's house (and if I'm too lazy to cook longanisa for myself), this is where I go to satisfy my cravings. Longanisa is perfect and the dinuguan is perfection. -1 star because the table was a bit sticky and dirty
google avatar

Vlad C.

Yelp
It's ok filipino food. There's way better places for Filipino food around Carson, but this place is just close to work. Point point style. I've had basically everything here. The dinuguan is horrible. There's no meat, just fat. Put pig ears or something. Prefer it more sour as well. The other foods ok. When I come here for work, I'm usually beat. Filipino food is just comfort food for me. It's great to have after a long day and I didn't have to go far to get it. Plus, I stay here a little longer just to watch the TFC. Its nice to just sit and eat Filipino food with SHOWTIME!
google avatar

Ashley S.

Yelp
Really sad cause the food is delicious and cheap but everytime i eat this, i end up throwing up and getting diarrhea that very night.

Yelp
I've been living down this street for almost 15 years now and whenever my mom and I were too lazy to cook and are craving food from the motherland, we go to Edna's. And since everyone are yelp! crazy now a days, here's my review. To get me set for the mood, I of course had to get a meal from there. I got one of their combos of chicken and pork bbq on skewers which came with a side of rice. I also noticed that they had palabok, so of course I had to get it. I was first craving some caldereta, which they had but was with goat instead of beef, I'm not a fan of eating goat too much, so I by passed it. But the bbq was delicious, (I like the chicken a little bit more than the pork), it was sweet, but not overwhelmingly so. This is how Filipino bbq is supposed to taste like for those who've never had it. The rice was perfectly steamed (LOL inside joke between a friend and I). The palabok was delicious... I just gotten a medium, but I wish I'd gotten the large. It wasn't bland like most palabok tend to be. I didn't even have to put calamansi or lemon on it, I wish I knew how to cook it this way. The service at Edna's is fast and attentive. The girl in the front is really cute and friendly (the older one, not the younger one, haha just kidding). It's a place to point what you want and pay for it. No in dine service or anything, but they'll help you with everything you need.

Twon F.

Yelp
Went to the Filipino festival in Long Beach, and despite the long line, and few items being sold out. The crew at Edna's still deliver with taste and, healthy portioned plates. Happy customer

Yelp
Review para sa Western Union. Kung nk pwesto yung pamangkin ng may ari na hindi usual na nk pwesto wag na kayo mag padla. Bastos wlang modo. Unprofessional, may customer panay text at very sarcastic! Biro nya akala nya mabubuhay nanay nya. Kaya pala nawala hindi na kaya ugali nya. Very disappointing!
google avatar

Yelp
Seriously?? We went to Edna"s today. We saw a cock roach running around on the counter along side of the food. We turned around and walked out.

Ralph S.

Yelp
OMG the food is so good and fresh! I am not Pinoy but have been to Phils and I love it. Great service lovely people makes the food taste better
google avatar

Yelp
We placed an order for 30 BBQ Pork Sticks for a party. The price was great for the whole order. Unfortunetly we had to cancel the whole order the day before and Edna's Restaurant was very kind and friendly even though we cancelled. Even with these tough times we would have like to given our business to this very friendly hometown restaurant. We hope to be able to visit them again real soon! Danny Lomita, CA

Yelp
Great pinoy food at a low price . Is rarely crowded which makes service so good . I will definitely be back for more .

Yelp
Not completely impressed with this place. There's definitely better places. I didn't think the food was very fresh, the dishes seem to have been sitting in the buffet trays for quite a while. Had the skewers and they were cold, which is a big no no in my book. Look elsewhere for better food.
