Philly’s Best Eggs Benedicts and Omelets

"This egg-centric cafe has mastered the art of satisfying and hearty egg dishes. Among its menu of out-of-this-world omelets are the Angry Pig (made with smoked ham, spicy maple pork sausage, and jalapeño), the Egg-Zilla (which features applewood smoked bacon, spinach, and Chihuahua cheese), and the Veggie Delight (a vegetarian omelet that combines spinach, onion, bell pepper, and portobello mushrooms)." - George Banks-Weston

We had breakfast at Eggcellent and absolutely loved it! We tried the Mexican skillet, salmon Benedict, oatmeal, and a special burger — everything was fresh and delicious. The food came out just minutes after we ordered. The staff was extremely polite and the service was great. Highly recommend this cozy spot!

I loved loved loved the food here. The Smashed Avocado Benny was incredible, and the potatoes on the side were seasoned perfectly. Service was pretty quick, though the folks running the place have to deal with a lot of counter orders along with the seated customers. I would absolutely come back the next time I'm in Philly.

This is a really cute breakfast spot with a cozy vibe. I had the Eggsentials and Berry Cheesecake French Toast. They were both were delicious. The Tropical Bliss smoothie was really good as well. The service was friendly, and the location on Chestnut Street is perfect for people-watching. I’d definitely come back to try their lunch options. Overall, I’d rate it an 8/10.

The food here was really tasty and served extremely fast. I don’t think I waited more than 5 minutes. The breakfast burrito was really good. Also had a smoothie that wasn’t amazing but definitely above average. My partner had an egg sandwich and french toast (not pictured). She said it was the best french toast she’s ever had. I had a bite too and can confirm it was pretty damn good. Not sure if the syrup was real maple or not, so don’t look for it to be if that matters to you. The seating was a tad uncomfortable but the service was rather prompt and professional. You will need your phone to scan a QR code to get the menu. I would eat here again.

Follow me on Instagram for more reviews! @hopeless_ramen_tic 📍 Eggcellent Cafe - Philadelphia, PA ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Food: California Benny – Fresh, high-quality ingredients. – The hollandaise was tasty but could’ve used a bit more. – Loved the addition of arugula as the green—it elevated the dish. – Crispy bacon and avocado combo never fails! – My friend Emilia loved this for its freshness, but I found it a bit standard. De Olde Taco – The shaved rib eye was perfection—flavorful and tender. – Every ingredient complemented each other beautifully. – Spicy chipotle ketchup and pickled onions were standout toppings. – This was my favorite dish—an absolute must-order! Berry Cheesecake French Toast – Insanely thick and fluffy French toast—challah bread for the win! – The berry cheesecake toppings were well-balanced and not too overpowering. – A delightful sweet treat to share or enjoy solo. Angry Pig Omelette – Insanely cheesy with a satisfying cheese pull! – Smoked ham and spicy maple pork sausage were flavorful and had a nice kick. – Chipotle aioli was the ideal sauce to pair with this omelette. – Crispy, flavorful breakfast potatoes sealed the deal. – Highly recommend this dish! Brekkie Bánh Mì – A fresh and creative take on the classic bánh mì. – The spicy maple pork sausage was a perfect mix of sweet, savory, and smoky—so good! – Could’ve used a bit more punch in flavor overall. Drinks: Tropical Bliss Smoothie – Refreshing with prominent pineapple and orange flavors. – Reminded me of being on a beach—simple but satisfying. Hot Brown Sugar Latte with Almond Milk – The brown sugar flavor was enjoyable. – A standard latte, but I wish it had been a bit larger. – It would be nice if they offered skim milk. I was so excited to be invited to brunch here and brought my friend Emilia along to try their extensive menu. The staff were incredibly kind and welcoming, and we had such a great time exploring the menu. Everything we ordered was delicious, and the variety was impressive! Their coffee, sourced from Vibrant Coffee Roastery, was decent, but I’m definitely coming back to try more dishes—especially the pancakes! If you’re in the area, I highly recommend stopping by. This cute cafe was egg-cellent! Portion size was absolutely great! We only waited about 5 minutes to get seated at 11AM on a Saturday even though it was packed. This made the experience even more awesome! The food came out within 10 minutes of ordering and was spot on delicious. Our waitress was also very nice and professional! I highly would recommend for breakfast/brunch!

Google
Delectable and delicious! My wife found this place and from the first moment I laid eyes on the menu, I knew we had to visit. We went on a Sunday morning around 1030am, peak brunch time. Although the wait was about 30-40 minutes, it was completely worth it. The service was excellent, the staff was friendly and the food was hands down incredible. Don't miss out on this perfect place for breakfast, lunch or simply brunch. Don't forget to bundle up if you have to wait out side for a seat, I promise it will be well worthwhile.

Google
We got the breakfast burrito and the green goddess sandwich. The green goddess sandwich is a personal favorite that I’ve gotten multiple times. The egg was overcooked this time (shown in the picture), but the flavor palette was still very enjoyable. I think the pesto flavor is great with the avocado and cheese, but I think adding some form of acidity - sliced tomatoes or a squeeze of lemon juice is what we tried at home, would really elevate the dish. The breakfast burrito was good, but just doesn’t wow me like the green goddess sandwich. I like the subtle spice and crunchy texture of the hash brown inside though.

Yelp
Food was fantastic. Everything was just the way that I like it. The potatoes were done and with a little crunch. The French toast was not at all soggy and had a little bit of crisp. The eggs were cooked just all the right way. Service was quick. We did have to wait a little bit for a table as they are limited in the number of 4 or more tables. People with 1 or 2 in their party were sat almost immediately. Cool environment in a cool location. We'll be back.

Yelp
My husband and I's go-to brunch place! We love this neighborhood spot and always try to time when we eat so that we avoid the waiting lines, especially on the weekends. This place does not take reservations, but the service is fast. I love all the breakfast sandwiches, omelettes, and eggs benedicts on the menu - my husband and I have tried almost all of them at least once! Atmosphere: There is seating for about 25-30 people inside, and the cafe has a brigtht, casual vibe. The service is great and even during busy times, we typically get our food within 15 minutes. Food: We frequently get their clucker benedict (fried chicken and eggs benedicts) and their egg sandwiches! I also love getting their smoothies, and they have many options. The only sandwich I did not enjoy was their banh mi / breakfast sandwich mix - I just don't think the banh mi ingredients make for a great breakfast sandwich. Overall: 5/5 - we come here so frequently and often introduce our friends to this brunch spot! Highly recommend!

Yelp
I love a good breakfast sandwich and Eggcellent Cafe comes in strong. Their eggs are perfectly fluffy and you can tell they use high quality ingredients. I'm not usually someone who enjoys a big meal for breakfast, but this was delish! Everyone loved their orders and we'd definitely return. Service was super welcoming and kind. They were accommodating to our requests and very helpful with suggestions! Highly recommend if you're in the area.

Yelp
Eggcellent was just that! Eggcellent... very small cute breakfast shop with great customer service. Food was delivered as fast as we ordered it - it was hot, fresh and very flavorful. The staff was very friendly and nice, they were also very accommodating to amending our menu selections to make them more inclusive to our liking. Looking forward to returning the next time I'm in Philadelphia.

Yelp
Always avoided because it's crowded but friend wanted to try. Walk in and put your name down on the ipad and they'll text you when the table is ready! I actually was impressed and thought my item was delicious and even good for the price! Would come back and order the same thing for sure

Yelp
My friend I was staying with in the area recommended this brunch place. We got here a few minutes after it opened at 8am on a Sunday and it was already filling up with people. I loved my classic breakfast burrito. It was large, filling, came with a lot of delicious chorizo, and included avocado--not extra! Our coffees were also yummy. Service hustles and is good. Love the decor/vibe/ambiance--very light and airy and cozy.

Yelp
This is obviously a very popular local spot and was absolutely packed on a Sunday morning around 9am. That being said, we don't wait long and we're seated promptly. Not a fan of the QR code only menu, especially for a menu that is as extensive as this. Seems like it would be a lot easier to read if they just had regular menus on the table. The seating is cozy and it seems like it's hard for the staff not to bump into the patrons. The food we ordered was decent - not bad, not great. The burrito was a giant meatball of a creation, but tasted alright despite its appearance. Oatmeal is hard to mess up. The coffee was pretty solid, but the melamine mugs are strange.

Yelp
We only stopped in for some coffee to go, but it was very cute inside. I love the live plant display on the wall. The employees were very friendly.

Yelp
Ordered on DoorDash. Hands down one of the best burritos I have ever had. Very filling as well. Such a large menu and can easily go back multiple times to try different things.

Yelp
The name tells you all you need to know! This little cafe had a perfect breakfast for us before taking on a day in Philly. Honestly, they had so many choices, it was really hard to choose. First off, there was a crowd outside, which made us a little nervous that we were going to have to wait a long time. If you see a crowd/line, go inside and make a quick right to put your name on the list; they will text you when your table is ready. It was a quick wait, as was the wait for our food. This staff HUSTLES! There was amazing looking food coming out of the kitchen pretty quickly! My husband had a cappuccino and an everything bagel with chive cream cheese. I had the deconstructed lox (see photo). It tasted as good as it looks. 10/10 The food was delicious, the prices were reasonable (and they offer a cash discount, if you're so inclined) and the service was very fast! I would highly recommend checking them out when in Philly!

Yelp
I came here for brunch with friends and got the mexi hash. Service took a while, way longer than expected when it came to drink and food orders. The place is small with only a few tables so you'll probably have to wait for a table. The hash skillet was way bigger than expected so I had to get leftovers. I like how there was fresh avocado in it and the food was seasoned well.

Yelp
Love this restaurant. The food is so good and people so kind. Second time back, and it's just as good as i remembered. Thanks guys

Yelp
Fantastic breakfast spot in Old City, perfect for curing a hangover. I loved the Vietnamese-inspired breakfast dishes, such as the sausage, egg, and cheese on a bagel with crisp, fragrant cilantro and cucumber. The eggs Benedict was rich, and the crispy potatoes served on the side were some of the best I've had in Philly. The interior is on the smaller side but still roomy enough for a larger party. Service was friendly and quick, considering how busy the place was. 5/5!
google avatar

Yelp
Would rate 4.5 if possible. Been here 2 times, so combined review here. Service/wait times were reasonable even if full house. First time, for drinks, we got the Nutella Latte. Second time was Caramel Brulee Latte. Both Lattes were pleasantly tasty. First time, for main dishes, were the Mexi Hash skillet and De Olde Tacos. Second time was California Benny, Clucker Benny, and the Berry Overnight Oat. Both times all dishes were on point, having reaaonably fresh ingredients, and tasty. I'm typically don't frequent brunch places, but this one's great.

Yelp
A delicious brunch restaurant in Old City. All the staff were helpful and friendly. The place isn't very big, so be prepared if you come on a weekend because it gets really busy. Still, this place should be on your 'must-visit' list!

Yelp
Service was great. Very charming and uplifting place. Food was excellent! I am glad that we found this spot!

Yelp
Eggcellent is a decent cafe in a convenient location. It can be pretty busy and cramped for brunch, but the general wait time seems to be move quickly. The food here is ok, but nothing spectacular to rave about. I got the Eggcellent breakfast sandwich which was spicy sausage, egg, and some condiments on a brioche bun. While it was filling and tasty, I thought $11 was a little steep considering it didn't come with any sides like other breakfast spots may do. The avocado toast was also tasty, but it's not anything you can't make at home any better. Additionally, this was our second time visiting and they seem to be out of a lot of drink menu items frequently. Both the Thai Tea and Hong Kong Milk Tea were not available. The bathroom was also out of order, which may be out of their control but there was no way to wash our hands or use the restroom. Overall, this is an ok spot for food but not anywhere I'd go out of my way to visit.

Yelp
Actually a super cute cafe with a nice location sandwiched in between shops and other stores! Inside was cramped during brunch hours and had a lively vibe! The wait wasn't long and the workers were chipper~ The food overall was good~ Personally, I don't think there was anything special though; the avocado toast tastes exactly like an avocado toast - could make it at home type~ The French toast was a bit dry but still sweet. The potatoes were pretty good; a lot of flavor since there were a lot of toppings! Overall, a 6/10! Would come again if I were close but not a notable experience~
google avatar

Yelp
There are clearly some diehard fans here, but after 1 visit, you could say I remain, "eggnostic." Some egg-ravating issues: - long wait times + a crowded interior (but overall in a cool historic shell) -- overall it's loud and chaotic. - sat with no interaction until food + coffee arrived (+20 more minutes) - the spicy pig omelette was strangely cooked; my very first bite was into a completely raw onion, which tasted so acrid it felt like it bit me back - honeysuckle latte was served in a sealed plastic to-go container even though I was dining in Something positive: all of the food looks truly Instagram-worthy in its presentation. If you're just here for that, then this is your place.
google avatar

Yelp
I ordered take out and got the classic eggs bene and Nutella French toast. The eggs bene was delicious and the French toast was just average in my opinion. The French toast was too large and a little soggy. I prefer mine to be a little crispier. Can't mention the service or ambiance since I don't dine in, but looks cute online. Good place for take out and would order again.

Yelp
Eggcellent Cafe, a delightful dining experience nestled within the heart of an old Philadelphia building; which has been beautifully renovated to enhance its atmosphere, as a distraction from the hustle and bustle of the old Philadelphia city life. The cafe prides itself on a menu that boasts of freshness and the unique complex combinations of flavors known and exotic, which was evident in the dishes I had the pleasure of trying. My choice of the Angry Pig Omelette was a delightful melange of smoked ham and maple pork sausage, enriched with a blend of complex and piquant spices, paired perfectly with chipotle aioli. This, coupled with a serving of well-prepared breakfast potatoes, added a hearty touch to the meal, making it memorably complex and spicy. The Coffee I ordered to accompany my meal was brewed hot, and full flavor. The Veggie Delight presented a wholesome option, with the omelette generously filled with onions and bacon, and paired with well-done, crispy home-fries, ensuring each element stood out in terms of taste and presentation. Not to be missed is the cafe's rendition of French Toast Local Challah, an exquisite confluence of warm, buttered, and powdered toast, with the light, aromatic touch of vanilla bean custard batter. Topped with an assortment of fresh strawberries and blueberries and complemented by pure maple syrup. The warmth of the toast and the cold of the strawberries were a beautiful juxtaposition of temperatures and flavors that tantalized the palate. In conclusion, Eggcellent Cafe offers a great culinary experience that combines tradition with a refreshing twist of contemporary flavors; an excellent distraction from the hustle and bustle of the old Philadelphia city life ambiance.

Yelp
Our first time visiting this establishment and we were pleasantly impressed! It's a small place but we went on a Wednesday morning and were able to get seated right away! The menu is amazing! We decided on a skillet option, an omelette (jalapeños on the side) and a side of French Toast! Everything was delicious! The French Toast was absolutely amazing...think I'll order that as my main dish next time Our waiter was also amazing! He was extremely helpful and friendly! We absolutely love this spot and will definitely be returning!

Yelp
Came in for a brunch with my mom to try a new place for us. We both ordered the california benny, it tasted good overall but the poached egg was very overdone, which was a bit disappointing. What did not disappoint however was the latte, it came with some beautiful latte art which is always nice, and it tasted good as well. During our visit the place was very decorated for spooky season, which was interesting to me since I find a lot of restaurants don't typically do so, so I found it a nice touch. The service was what threw me off a little, everyone was nice to us, but we both felt like the servers were sort of staring at us, which made us a bit uncomfortable. Other than that everything was fine. Probably not my favorite place in the city, but nice for a change of pace.
google avatar

Tam S.

Yelp
Food was tasty, servings ample, service with a smile, huge menu. Ask for cream w your coffee and it is served with cream in it - no little plastic cups to litter the table or the planet. Also, Regular Show.
google avatar

Jonathan K.

Yelp
Noisy and crowded, this is an excellent place to have the "morning after" breakfast on Sunday. The menu was impressive;y extensive with lots of variations on serval different themes, providing something for everyone. I had the bacon. Sammy (shown) that was good with a home made bun, although the coffee was barely passable being lukewarm and weak,. Service was fast, accurate, and efficient. Another bonus is the likely Vietnamese ownership that was manifest in the correct spelling of Bành Mí and other Vietnamese items such as plentiful Sriracha sauces, that added a welcome foreign flare to American-style foods. A winner for those who like to eat breakfast out (I am not one of them) in the Old City.
google avatar

Gabriela G.

Yelp
The best french toast I've ever had was here. Had to wait a bit for a table, but it was well worth it.
google avatar

Rebecca C.

Yelp
We were seated right away. But service was pretty long. My Clucker Benny wasn't visually appealing, the oil needed to be changed. Pancake was fluffy with great taste.
google avatar

Allyssa C.

Yelp
EGGCELLENT! Servers were friendly, food was very good, and ambiance is very nice. Would definitely recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
The food here was a pleasant surprise. It used fresh ingredients and was super tasty. Prices for food were reasonable too. Service was quick and efficient. Highly recommend this place.
google avatar

Yelp
I had to wait for an appointment and found this place! Amazing! The food was so good that it makes me want to take the almost 2 hour drive every week! Definitely recommend!
google avatar

Rob C.

Yelp
Food - breakfast with lots of eggsceptional selection. Too hard since this is my breakfast poison. But nonetheless picked the Eggceptional sandwich and boy o, was it delish! I also ordered a side of lox to add to the sandwich. They had similar to Sriracha on hand but I put ketchup and Cholula as this is my go to hot sauce. Devine! Service - quite decent considering they were busy and running on the thin staff Ambiance - a small place that definitely can accommodate about 20-30 people and what makes this place is they turnover customers very decently so your wait times aren't too bad. Verdict - yes! Go here for some good breakfast!!!
google avatar

Kathy M.

Yelp
The food was amazing. Rate-10/10. My favorite is the Strawberry and Blueberry French Toast.
google avatar

Tammy C.

Yelp
I really liked their menu which had a bunch of different options. I also really enjoyed my food! The price for the food is also great. This place is casual and you can stop by for some brunch or coffee. It did take a bit long for the food to arrive but I don't mind since the food was really good. Lots of seating and is a good place for studying or working!
google avatar

Robyn H.

Yelp
Food wasn't bad. I had the Veggie Delight Omelette. It came with potatoes. Not the best or worst I've had. My fiance had the Berry Frenchtoast. I thought it was just ok, too. Probably will not be back, but the waitress was very nice.
google avatar

Ryan G.

Yelp
Super busy on the weekend, yet well worth the wait. My second time here and it was even more delightful. I had the strawberry cheesecake French toast with a side of eggs over easy. The egg was slightly overcooked but delicious and that challah French toast was delicious. And they have the best coffee.
google avatar

Neil D.

Yelp
Went to Philly on vacation found this spot had a nice breakfast . Get there early like we did to avoid the wait .
google avatar

Ethan L.

Yelp
Despite the restaurant being full to the point of having a short wait to be seated, the food came extremely quickly. The Mexi Hash tasted very fresh with each of the numerous vegetables, the applewood smoked bacon and the eggs being prominent to just the right extent. Can't wait to have this dish again, but also can't wait to try other items on the menu!
google avatar

Emily H.

Yelp
Inside is a cute cafe decorated with plants on the walls. It's fairly small/packed inside. Avocado Truffle Toast 6.3/10 - good amount of avocado - need more seasoning, just add some salt/pepper - toast was a bit soggy and would've preferred it to be more toasted Mex Skillet Hash 6.5/10 - hash wasn't as crispy as I thought - has peppers, cheese, beans, onions, corn, cilantro, topped with an egg Berry Cheesecake French Toast 6/10 - not as crispy as I thought, airy - berries were fresh Service was busy, so weren't checked up on at all. We needed more water but couldn't get anyone's attention. Inside was a little too warm as well. Overall, it was okay! Food was just mediocre to me.
google avatar

Natassja A.

Yelp
Down right a really great asian-owned brunch! Service was attentive & food came out pretty quickly. Had to try both sweet and savory and NONE of the dishes I ate disappointed. Be sure to get really full just with the De Olde Tacos. These breakfast tacos were HUGE and so filling. The french toast was perfectly cooked with a slight crunch on the outside and a pillowy inside. The truffle on the toast however was a little too strong for my personal taste, but I would still argue that it was a tasty dish. I surely had an eggcellent day after my dining experience here. Totally loved the vibe inside & decor inside. I'll be back!!!
google avatar

Tim G.

Yelp
The service is quick, the ambiance is lovely. The food however is too greasy and varies between excessively salty and straight up bland? Maybe that's why they have the condiments and spices at each table. This was my second time trying them for brunch and I honestly don't think I'll return.
google avatar

Stacy A.

Yelp
Great breakfast spot! The food is very good so it's not surprising that it is always busy. Seems like getting a table for more than 4 people is close to impossible, so plan accordingly. I really enjoyed the classic Benedict and the Incredible Hulk green smoothie. The space is cute and clean but the service is a bit scattered, but probably because it's always busy. Definitely a great place to stop by if you are in the area. If you are in a hurry, order ahead and pick up!
google avatar

Katrina L.

Yelp
I was really impressed with our food at Eggcellent Cafe! The restaurant is small, but they are super quick with service and preparing the meals. We loved the breakfast burrito and the eggstravaganza - and were able to order a single French toast for our toddler (we tried it - also delicious!) great spot for breakfast/brunch!
google avatar

Keri V.

Yelp
Tiny, tiny place but the food is amazing. I was slightly disappointed with my coffee as it was a mix/concentrate. Food though was out of this world delicious and huge portions!
google avatar

Jordan M.

Yelp
Eggcellent cafe was really good. The service was prompt and polite. The restaurant is quaint, colorful and nice. I got the citron Yuzu tea which was definitely the concentrate with hot water poured over. Still pretty good. The breakfast burrito was flavorful and delicious. I added turkey bacon to it. Nothing super spectacular. The outside had a nice crunch and the flavors blend well. I picked some of the egg out to see if it was special in any way, it was just egg lol. It comes with this little sauce on top and the side that was slightly spicy and flavorful. I really enjoyed this and the portion is huge. Definitely worth a stop.

Melissa B.

Yelp
Ordered online for pickup. They are extremely disorganized inside. Bit into my sandwich and there was a STAPLE cooked into the egg. Also found a hair in my sandwich. Do not patronize this restaurant unless you want to risk choking.
google avatar

Sophia S.

Yelp
Overall the food was great! Tons of options, most of which were different takes on eggs. They also had a whole coffee menu. Although, I got an iced mocha and the chocolate syrup was all on the bottom. But other wise, it was great! The interior of the restaurant was cute with a yellow theme basic Colours. The small plants were also appreciated. The staff were fast and friendly doing their job. I would definitely go again!

Yelp
The food was delicious and the service was quick. Perfect spot to enjoy a skillet or coffee and a pastry.

Yelp
I have to say this...the Eggcellent Cafe is actually quite...eggcellent ;) Okay now that the irresistible pun is out of the way, I actually did have a great experience here. This place is BUSY, so be prepared for a wait during popular hours. A friend and I were able to snag 2 seats at this little counter at the very front of the restaurant that was very well decorated. The food here is not only good, but also very reasonably priced. I ordered the deconstructed lox (lox, arugula salad, tomato, cream cheese, bagel, $13) and my friend got the Eggsplicit (egg, bacon, tomato, avocado, cream cheese on a bagel, $11). They gave me a decent amount of lox and the arugula salad they paired it with was light and refreshing.

Yelp
In the search for breakfast/brunch perfection this is the spot. Well done PA! As a New Yorker straddling Queens and Brooklyn as my playground. There is no shortage of good food. However, breakfast and brunch are always tricky. This place was a god send away from home. Friendly staff and tasty food. You cannot ask for more. Note that there could be a wait time depending on how busy it gets but your patience would be well rewarded. Try the Veggie Delight Omelette (hopefully I got the name right) beautiful balance of taste. I wish I had something like this in walking distance from the crib in NYC. I would be a regular. PSA. Watch out for the parking rules around the area. It could be tricky.
