Ekachan The Wisdom of Ethnic Thai Cuisine - Review - Miang Kham Village - Chiang Mai - The Infatuation

"Ekachan is our top recommendation for where to have a sit-down dinner in Chiang Mai. The menu is full of Northern Thai bangers, including spicy pomelo salad with crab, crispy chicken wings glazed with a zingy tamarind and lemongrass sauce, and an excellent duck laab with lots of toasted rice powder. There’s a pretty large patio that overlooks the river, but the inside is also a nice place to bring a group, since they usually have singer/songwriter types strumming away on the guitar. The place gets pretty busy, so definitely make a reservation. photo credit: Carlo Mantuano" - Carlo Mantuano

"This new restaurant in the heart of old Chiang Mai is run by a local chef who embraces the slow food concept, using ingredients from around the country. The fried rice with sweet shrimp is nicely cooked with sweet shrimp paste and tasty condiments, including fresh chilli, shallots and mango. The spicy beef turmeric curry is a standout, with an intense mix of herbs and spices. If you’re looking for the spice bomb, they can add fresh Thai chillies." - Michelin Inspector

My wife and I found this jewel of a place in our trip to Chiang Mai. The service was great. They were packed and had a number of tables that have big groups so it was a little bit busy and service was a little slower but not so bad. I use to work in the food industry so I know how it can be when you have a packed house. I had their grill steak with mushroom and a small side of beetroot salad with mustered and the steak melted in your mouth with the garlic basil chimichurri sauce. We also had their chicken curry also that did not disappoint. The chicken was soft and tender and moist. The cabbage stir-fry with garlic tasted great not too oily or salty the cabbage was still crunchy. Then we also had a salad tomato with fruit and dried shrimp with shells on. It tasted so refreshing. You will need a reservation for this restaurant. We ate there at 7:06 on a Friday night. I forgot to get our servers name but he was excellent always stopping in to check if we needed anything, he was also very professional when there was a rude customer service at one of the tables next to use.

Environmental and atmosphere is great. The fried chicken wing is nice. Very juicy. Squid salad is quite refreshing, which is the baby squid. Prawns yellow curry is not to bad, with very fresh prawns. Coconut pudding not too sweet. With some old coconut floss on top. Not worth the price but in general it’s okay.

It is easily one of the best places I’ve eaten at in Chiang Mai. Once I discovered it, I ended up coming back every single day during my trip. Their beef and chicken dishes were my absolute favorites: rich flavor, great texture, and consistently delicious. I also tried their recommended daily special, the catfish, but personally, I wouldn’t suggest picking that one. Everything else, though, was outstanding. They also have an amazing selection of soups, each packed with depth and authentic Thai flavors. The staff here is always attentive and friendly, and there are plenty of them, so the service is quick and smooth every time. If you’re in Chiang Mai and want genuinely great Thai cuisine, this place should be at the top of your list.

This local restaurant takes traditional Thai dishes to the new level. I went to this restaurant knowing nothing about this place. Upon arrival, I was amazed on how attentive the staffs were. Service is outstanding. Every dish was delicious and flawless. This meal also ended in high note with Honey Yuzu sorbet, perfect combination of smooth sorbet, fragrance, right degree of sweetness and citrus. No wonder it’s very popular esp. among tourists. This is the place with Michelin-star quality. 👍

Overall, it’s not particularly unique or impressive, as the flavors are just average. It might be more suitable for foreigners who want to sample four different dishes from four regions of Thailand. My favorite dish here is Krang Ra Wang (Central curry but not a green curry). The prices are reasonable, and I appreciate that they welcomed us with a refreshing, appetizing drink like pineapple juice.

Food wise one of the best restaurants out there in Chiang Mai so far. The food was flavorful and you would appreciate the flavours especially the tomyam in every bite you take. However, the only concern was that each time we had to wait for some time to get refills for our rice which took about 15 minutes each round. Ordered some fish, tomyam, morning glory and beef. The food I’ll give it a 9/10 for sure. Amazing. Atmosphere was great as well. Would definitely recommend here but just make sure you made reservations earlier as we were unable to get a seat the first time we went there.

My fiancé and I came here around 6:30 pm and parked easily in the big lot right in front. We had our hotel call earlier to book a table, which I’d definitely recommend since the place gets quite full during dinner. There are three dining areas — an outdoor riverside balcony, an upper indoor deck, and a basement section (where we sat, not much view). The place is clean and nicely lit, but if you care about the view, let them know when you book. Food and service were both excellent. The staff spoke decent English and were super friendly, patiently explaining the menu and giving great recommendations. We loved the stir-fried prawn with shrimp paste, deep-fried chicken wings, and crab egg curry. The only miss was the steak with chimichurri sauce — the steak is not very tender despite having a “Michelin recommendation” sauce aside (so we were told by the staff). Overall, amazing food. Would totally come back to try more dishes!

Ordered 5 dishes and all 5 taste fantastic! Didn't take a photo of the prawn spring roll, but it's absolutely scrumptious that we'll come back just for this! The white rice and Riceberry combo is highly recommended, brings a different layer of joy to accompany the curry or the beef menu we ordered. Special mention to the young coconut drink that comes pre-peeled off its husks, not just novelty but great way to enjoy your beverage and the coconut flesh (I'm a self proclaimed coconut connoisseur!). Cannot wait to return to this restaurant and try other items in their menu. PS. Must book in advance or you won't get a seat.
