The Hottest New Restaurants in Minneapolis and St. Paul Right Now, May 2024

"Chilango, the newest restaurant from James Beard-nominated chef Jorge Guzmán, is dishing up “Mex-Tex” cuisine near the shores of Bde Maka Ska. Chilango has a more casual, fast-and-fun vibe than Guzmán’s first restaurant, Petite León — there are suadero and baja fish tacos on the menu; crunchy flautas and smoked wings — while Guzmán applies a deft hand to entrees like charred sweet potato enchiladas and camarones al diablo over a creamy masa panisse. Come for the Texas tamale pie (a Monday special); stay for the Choco Taco." - Eater Staff

Delicious tacos and gorditas! I loved their Bistek Gorditas! Don't forget to ask for lime!!! 🍋‍🟩 Clean and tidy location. Also I absolutely LOVE their bright green salsa at the salsa bar. Fresh made corn tortillas and gorditas!! Thanks for being awesome and authentic taco truck!!! 😋

They got my order wrong due to language barrier, but what they served was amazingly tasty and simple, and loaded.

Food was decent. We ordered the Al pastor and the mix meat. Mix meat is definitely the better option here. $3.00 a taco. Salsa were very good and very spicy. We did find a dead cricket inside the cucumber tray so that was pretty off putting, but ya know, it’s an outdoor truck where they leave food outside. Parking is horrendous. Very little space to actually park and the parking lot area is right off of an extremely busy road. Hard to get out once you park.

Oh man, I really wanted to like this place but I think the reviews led me wrong 😭 I'm a huge foodie and this place has had my interest for a while with all the high reviews. Unfortunately, most of our food was lacking in flavor (even with the added salsas). We had 5 different tacos: trompo al pastor, campechano, tacos de albanil, barbacoa, and the bistec. We are trying to kick off eating at all the taco trucks on the taco mile and thought this would be a good place to start, with all the other options, I may not be back for tacos (but may try their tortas). The meat itself was just lacking in flavor, I always want my tacos to be more bold, but hoping it was just an off day. Not terrible, but just okay. If you prefer milder seasoning, maybe this place would maybe be a better fit for you. Side notes, not a lot of parking, outdoor covered seating, cash only, but the staff were awesome and friendly. I think the tacos were also priced higher than other trucks in the area.

I ordered and paid for one torta for pickup and when I arrived 30 minutes later, they weren’t busy but hadn’t started my order despite my ticket already hanging above the grill. The cook was just sitting there on his phone. The woman at the front took someone’s order, physically handled their credit card, and then walked directly to the back, and without washing her hands grabbed the raw meat for my order barefisted and threw it on the grill. I just drove away despite having already paid. Seems like a great place to have your time wasted and to catch a food-borne illness.

I really liked the food here and honestly the reviews can be misleading but check it for yourself resígales, it’s one persons opinion at the end of the day. The chorizo tacos were bomb, the bistec was ok and like someone mentioned they did lack a bit of taste. Another thing to mention is that they only take CASH. Not sure if this was a one time thing or it’s a normal thing, regardless have some on your just in case. Parking can be a bit hard to get as they are usually packed, especially at night time.

I’m really excited I found this place. Their tacos are full of flavor. I tried the bistec, al pastor, and albañil tacos. The albañil taco comes with chorizo, bistec, nopales, queso fresco, and cilantro. The bistec and al pastor tacos come with plenty of cilantro and grilled onion. I was happy with the amount of meat in each taco; they definitely don’t skimp on the meat. I also tried both of their spicy green salsas. Everything was so good. I ate my tacos in the car and then ended up coming back for more. Tacos are $3, tortas are $12, and you have to pay with cash. You may be able to find a less expensive taco place, but these tacos are worth it. I can’t wait to come back and try their tortas, which I’ve heard great things about. A word of warning: I recommended this place to a friend, who ordered two tacos without cilantro and a torta, paying $18 in total. Unfortunately, he was only given one taco (with cilantro) and the torta. He tried explaining the issue to the owners, but since they mostly speak Spanish he wasn’t able to get the second taco he paid for. He really enjoyed the torta, but obviously was not too happy about not getting the correct tacos. I noticed they don’t give any receipts when you order, so maybe asking for a receipt can avoid these types of issues in the future.

Excellent Mexican food. I got the quesadilla and it was very good. Reasonably priced as well. They have homemade salsas and the outdoor seating is a nice vibe. There was a slight language barrier but nothing that hurt my experience or the taste of my food! I will definitely be back!
