The 17 Best Restaurants In Santa Fe - Santa Fe - The Infatuation

"El Chile Toreado cooks up exceptional burritos, fully-dressed hot dogs, and soft tacos with pillowy tortillas, all from the confines of a fairly small food truck. But your focus should be on the velvety braised carnitas fried in their own lard or the saucy adobada, a New Mexican classic made with a variety of chiles, spices, and herbs. If you want to go peak Santa Fe, order the jumbo hot dog topped with spiced pinto beans and Monterey jack cheese. The line moves fast even during the lunch rush—take your plate and a tamarindo to go, or eat at one of the shaded picnic tables behind the truck." - nina katz

The 12 Best Restaurants in Santa Fe

"The James Beard Foundation broke the mold when it nominated the father-and-daughter team of Luis and Berenice Medina as Best Chef Southwest semi-finalists in 2023. The duo, hailing from Chihuahua, Mexico, operate one of the city’s favorite food trucks where Luis plies his decades of experience as a hot dog cart operator and Berenice leverages her Le Cordon Bleu degree. The dishes, served on paper plates, pack in flavor rather than pomp. For breakfast, larger than life Luis Mix breakfast burritos pack in chorizo, bacon, and polish sausage with eggs, potatoes, green chile, and cheese. Come lunch, the al pastor (marinated pork in adobo with pineapple) and adobada (marinated pork in chile adobo sauce) tacos are rich and savory, and the house-made green chile sauce with jalapeños and cilantro complements any order." - Ashley M. Google
Delicious veggie tacos in Santa Fe. Do I need to say more? Okay, fine. Delicious veggie breakfast burritos in Santa Fe. More still? The red and green sauces (which come with the food) are beyond good. None of the veggie options have fake meat (big plus). There’s plenty of parking nearby. They have massive cups of horchata. There are tables to eat there. We went twice in three days. Amazing value for money. I didn’t eat anything with meat but if the veggie options and other reviews are anything to go by, I’m sure they slap too. Just go. So, so good.

Google
Carnitas Tacos =Amazing I could eat the salsa on anything. Heck I would drink the salsa with a straw. Don't pass this place up it's a diamond.

Danny Anderson

Google
This place was ridiculous. It took a minute to get our food, but it was amazing. These were the best breakfast tacos I've ever had.

Simon Shields

Google
Literally one of the best burrito I've ever eaten.. The place was immaculately clean. I would definitely have to give these guys a five star. They're avocado Hot sauce is amazing. And there's some benches where you can sit comfortably in the shade and eat

Leah Kapernick

Google
Oh. My. Goodness. Some of the best food I have eaten in all of New Mexico. I wish you had a location in ABQ- I’d be there weekly.

Google
El Chile Toreado catered our wedding and they were INCREDIBLE!! I can’t say enough good things about Berenice and the whole El Chile Toreado catering team. The food was absolutely delicious, the salsa spicy in the best way, everyone was just raving about how good everything was. Berenice personally served my spouse and I a special plate, with tacos, rice & beans, and delicious chicharrón and guacamole. And on top of that everyone with El Chile Toreado was incredibly friendly and kind and they really made our wedding shine!! I can’t wait for the next time I’m in Santa Fe so I can try out the El Chile Toreado restaurant - I will definitely be coming by next time I’m in town!!!

Google
It’s about frigging time that we find a genuine New Mexican green chili breakfast burrito. The whole experience was fantastic! From the wonderful tortillas all the way to the red and green sauces on our vegetarian and bacon breakfast burritos were the best we have had in the city. Did I mention they are not afraid to season their burritos? We will come back! Gracias. El Chile Toreado.

Kristin Borke

Google
Every taco we tried was great. Also recommend the horchata.

Yelp
This place is legit. I ordered a breakfast burrito with chorizo, and let me tell you, it was hands down the best burrito I've had in a long time. Every bite was packed with perfectly cooked eggs, flavorful chorizo, and just the right amount of spice. I've been a loyal fan of spots like Burrito Company and Burrito Spot for a quick grab, but El Chile Toreado has officially stolen the crown. This is my new go-to spot. On my next visit, I ventured into their secret menu and tried the deshebrada. O-M-G. If you don't know what that is, let me break it down: slow-cooked, tender, shredded beef with a rich and savory flavor that's perfectly balanced by their chile. It's everything you didn't know you needed in a burrito. Talk about food heaven. The portions are generous, the flavors are bold, and the prices are incredibly reasonable. Whether you're a local or just passing through Santa Fe, El Chile Toreado is the real deal. Pro tip: Go early--they can get busy, and for good reason. Don't sleep on this spot!

Yelp
Highly-rated food truck I had to check out, and it didn't disappoint! Clean and welcoming, The lovely server was all smiles! I enjoyed the breakfast tacos (4) with Luis' mix (chorizo, bacon, Polish sausage), with a red (mild) and green (spicy) sauce on the side, and fresh veggies at the stand. There are shaded tables behind the stand. This was a bit messy to eat as I loaded it up; I needed some extra napkins. A spoon would have been helpful. Vehicle parking was plentiful along the street. RECOMMEND. 1.1 miles, I walked in the morning for 25 minutes from Santa Fe Plaza (bring a hat and sunscreen), feeling safe along Cerrillos road. There is a sidewalk and various businesses along the way (interior design firms, architects), but there were also some quiet/lonely stretches. I discovered Saveur Bistro (which I also visited), and Whole Foods (I had to ask for the code to use the public toilet because I didn't make a purchase).

Yelp
What a fantastic food truck, we came here multiple times while we were in town! We found all of the meats enjoyable (both chickens, carne asada, carnitas), in quesadilla, burrito, and taco form. Al pastor was the messiest but was very flavorful. Really, the only downside is that they're only open for lunch.

Yelp
I'm surprised I haven't reviewed this place yet as it's one of my favorite spots in Santa Fe and is always solid. Breakfast burritos are delicious and huge. Tacos are amazing. A true staple. The service is always great. Your food is made to order, they give you a little buzzer that goes off when it's done. There are a few outside tables to eat at. Parking spaces are limited, so you may have to park in the street or in the parking lot across the road.

Yelp
What a great food experience! Burritos are enough to share. Had the mix burrito. And the beef quesadilla. Staff very friendly!

Yelp
This food truck was a random find on Google while on our way to Flagstaff, AZ. Only about 5 min off the interstate, I knew we were bound to find a taco truck in Santa Fe & this place was so delicious! I got the veggie burrito / added bacon, but I could've went without the beans; they are whole beans not refried. Must be a texture thing for me. BF got the Luis Mix and loved it too! They do offer to add salsa inside the burrito or on the side... highly recommend to just add inside the burrito if you're on the road like us! Thanks for the friendly service and suggestions

Yelp
A great food truck with outdoor tables and easy parking -- though it wasn't busy when we were there, we understand that lines can get long and that calling ahead to order is a wise move. We had tacos: carnitas and carne asada. The carne asada was fine, but not special (small pieces almost like hamburger bits). The Carnitas was absolutely delicious. The tacos came with a choice of salsas (we got both red and green, both good), as well as access to their condiments station which had a good variety of things to add. What we really liked is the atmosphere and service -- the patrons were happily talking among each other as they waited, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the tacos came out quickly - so quickly that the pager they gave us to tell us when it would be ready was really unnecessary. Next time we're in town, we'll be going back. One minor nit: there was an unexplained charge of $0.81 on a $35 order. Perhaps a credit card fee, perhaps something else. I'm not a fan of credit card fees, and certainly not a fan of charges that are not detailed on a receipt.

Yelp
Easily some of the best breakfast tacos that I've ever had. The food here is absolutely delicious and the portions are fantastic and its affordable. Their salsas are packed with a bunch of flavor -I'm still thinking about them days later and how I can find something similar in my hometown. The service is prompt and the people are nice. Its a taco truck so seating just depends on how many people are there. There were a few tables around the truck, which fit a reasonable amount of people but when I went there were still a lot of people sitting on the sidewalk. Very dependent on timing. Worth it!

Yelp
A must try when in Santa Fe! The bacon breakfast tacos were incredible. So much flavor. My friend said her chorizo breakfast tacos were amazing. The vegan amongst us enjoyed the veggie burrito (sans cheese). Be sure to ask for a side of red sauce and baggie for all the pickled peppers and veggies. Friendly service, casual food truck atmosphere. Perfect for grab and go.

Yelp
The BEST al pastor tacos I've ever eaten...hands down!! Our group of 8 stopped by for lunch and was to find something that we all could eat...and that we all loved! The people who work here are simply some of the nicest you will find anywhere! They did not get overwhelmed and was very accommodating. There were tables in which you can sit and eat right behind the food truck. Great place to sit on a beautiful day! Highly recommend this food truck...you cannot go wrong with anything you order!
google avatar

Abby L.

Yelp
DELICIOUS. This food truck blew us away. It is a fairly cheap meal while being very satisfying. The Carnitas and Al Pastor were our favorite. The Carnitas has a beautiful crunch packed with lots of flavor. Absolutely worth multiple stops here. This is our favorite tacos in town.

Yelp
Traveling through Santa Fe down to southeastern New Mexico, I had a strong craving for yet another breakfast burrito. Lol. I pulled over like a good Yelper & driver... the trusty app pointed me to this glorious food trailer called El Chile Toreado. Right away I noticed how neat and clean everything was... then the beautiful mural nearby. The nice lady at the register was probably shocked as hell when I ordered two burritos. Damn, I thought, when I received my order. I was shocked as hell too because these hefty bubbas are not for the faint of heart! Combined my "Luis's mix" and chorizo burritos came out to $22. "Do you want salsa on the side?" has to be the stupidest question ever... okay, it's not, but YES! Try their salsas. They are not too spicy. Just a mild kick to meet the wonderful flavors of the burritos. When ordering, they accept card or cash. You may be given a buzzer to notifiy you when it's ready. There is free street and lot parking nearby. Limited picnic table seating is also there behind the trailer. This is the real deal, folks. I'd come back in a heartbeat. If I didn't eat it right away, I'd stick it in the cooler like I did my second burrito. The only leftovers are mine!
google avatar

Max G.

Yelp
This food truck is supposed to serve the best burritos in Santa Fe. We went for lunch and found them good, but nothing special. The crew, working in cramped quarters, makes each burrito to order, and customers are welcome to add items from a condiment bar.

Garfield X.

Yelp
I read so many great reviews of this food truck so I made a special trip there for lunch during my stay. I'm so glad I did. These tacos have unique flavors and they're made with high quality ingredients. I particularly like the buche (pork stomach) because it's not something you will usually find on the menu elsewhere. The carne arsada is another favorite of mine - the steak is so juicy and I love the unique flavor and seasoning. These tacos are much better than the other meal we had in a restaurant. If you are up for great food, this is a must-stop! It won't let you down and you might be wonderfully surprised!
google avatar

Beth W.

Yelp
Got the Luis Mix breakfast burrito and tacos--phenomenal. So flavorful, so good, so filling. Portions are really big (sadly couldn't finish it all and wish I had a larger stomach). Customer service was great. Overall great experience and wish I could bring it home to AL with me!
google avatar

Curtis Z.

Yelp
This place is always busy, but worth the wait. Meats are flavorful and you can have all the pico, green chiles, pickled onions, cabbage and limes you want to adorn your tacos or burrito. And the salsa verde is fantastic. If you're looking for some great fast food, this is the place. But it closes by 2/2:30 so make sure you plan accordingly. It's also open for breakfast and the special breakfast burrito is awesome!
google avatar

Ali A.

Yelp
Very good food. Had the carne asada burrito. They didn't use a traditional tortilla, but was more like frybread, and it was really good. Meat could have used a bit more flavor but still good, and the hot sauces and pico were excellent. Mom had the pollo tacos and she enjoyed them. If you like chips with your Mexican food, be sure to bring some with you as they didn't have any. All in all, a really good experience and I would visit again!
google avatar

Chase T.

Yelp
This place serves fantastic carrying around food, such as burritos, tacos, even a hotdog option. I had the Buche burrito, christmas style, and others in my party had the Carnitas burrito. Hotdog for the little one. All of the meat was cooked perfectly, with that nice light crunch to the exterior of the carnitas and the buche was so tender, with a rich green sauce to go with it. Rice and beans inside the burrito makes it a hearty meal. The service was friendly, and all out of a humble food truck, with everything you need. Sort of feels like a little dose of New Mexico, all the way around. Bravo.
google avatar

Debbie G.

Yelp
This place was a great find! Ordered a carnitas burrito & pork marinated in adobe's sauce. It was so awesome & the crust around is cheese. Oh my!!!! This is where all the local just what we love. Enjoy!!!
google avatar

Emma O.

Yelp
Dude this place is KILLERRR. Anything you can get here is so bomb, but my personal favorite are the Al Pastor tacos. Staff are so nice and accommodating and food is generally pretty quick even if they have a line! Love this place and I'll continue to come back again and again

Julie L.

Yelp
Best breakfast tacos ever!! Nice staff, order was takeout. Fresh and tasty!! First time in Santa Fe, this place will be on our list to have again and again!!
google avatar

Nik S.

Yelp
I'd give them 10stars if I could. The best burrito I've ever had and I'm from LA! I got the veggie burrito and everything about it was perfection...the flavor, the size, the service...it was gourmet. I'd eat here everyday!
google avatar

Ashley K.

Yelp
what better fuel can you ask for, for your trip enjoying santa fe's natural beauty and wonder, than a huge, spicy breakfast burrito with delicious caramelized veggies and loaded with potatoes and egg? this is it. service was fast and friendly and efficient with little buzzers for when your order is ready. simple and easy to find. no overhang for when it's raining, but you're not waiting long. thanks for the delicious food!
google avatar

Sulin S.

Yelp
Yummy food- affordable price with delicious burritos. Super friendly customer service . Plenty of lime and salsa for self servings.
google avatar

Robert C.

Yelp
WOW. The best breakfast burrito that I have EVER eaten! Soo big and so full of meat and cheese and eggs and chilies you could spread this one burrito over at least 2 meals!! And I would definitely recommend that you get the Luis Mix for the meat. They do a great job and it was ready pretty quickly as well. You will not be disappointed.
google avatar

Cassie B.

Yelp
Best food truck in Santa Fe. Super nice staff and excellent tacos! Great seating nearby too

T F.

Yelp
An AMAZING spot. Relatively undiscovered until kind of recently. I am glad to see they are getting some well deserved love. The staff is great and very friendly. I don't know if it still is, but it was a family business with a lot of love and deliciousness obviously poured in over years. Can't recommend enough.
google avatar

Amy F.

Yelp
Fantastic tacos and burritos. Split the taco order between Barbacoa and carnitas and the burrito was all Barbacoa. Love that they have self serve condiments including grilled jalapeños and fresh pico. Friendly service and tables behind the truck if you want to eat there.
google avatar

Matt J.

Yelp
During a long road trip - 13 states - 16 days, I found myself going through Santa Fe, NM. I used Yelp reviews to find a place for tacos and I picked El Chile Toreado. Fortunately, I arrived about 11:30 a.m. and ordered a Carne Asada, Pollo en Adoba, and a Carnitas. After I ordered about 20 people showed up and there was a line. The woman taking the order threw me a Barbacoa Taco for free when I told her I was from CA. Their tacos are outstanding and would hold up anywhere in the country that has great mexican food. I am so glad she added the Barbocoa taco, as it and the Carne Asada were definitely the best! The Pollo and the Carnitas were also very good! I will stop here again if I am ever back in Sante Fe!
google avatar

Shikha H.

Yelp
Recommend this place if looking for a quick meal in santa fe. The crowds speak to it's popularity. Enjoy their chicken tacos more than the veggie ones. They charge extra for card transaction so carry cash.
google avatar

Lisa F.

Yelp
Super loved the tacos. Have it with the green sauce. Extremely delicious. They we're on the runner up for a James beard award in January 2023! Super worth the visit.

Edvin J.

Yelp
Absolutely our best kept secret. Food is always fresh and super delicious.Green salsa is the bomb.
google avatar

S J.

Yelp
Was recommended this place a while ago and got around to trying it for the first time today and it DID NOT DISSAPOINT!!! Tacos = A+, Service= fast, Food truck= crowded, Prices= on point. Yeah this place is goooood. I heard they sell out fast so if they're closed randomly, that's probably why. Which is a great sign. Get there early and get there fast.
google avatar

Kat C.

Yelp
The burritos weight about 5 lbs! They were soooooo good. My chicken had excellent grilled flavor and I did the lemon pepper for something different - which was great! My husband had the barbacoa and said the flavors were spectacular.
google avatar

D F.

Yelp
Huge Breakfast Burrito, I ordered the bacon green chili. The burrito was good but not great. For one thing bacon was super fatty and the potatoes not cooked completely so they were crunchy. There was egg and cheese but not enough.
google avatar

Matthew H.

Yelp
El Chile toreado is a classic Santa Fe Staple! I have lived in the Santa Fe area for quite some time and have found their burritos to be truly delicious. I recently stopped by for breakfast with a bunch of my friends before white water rafting and the food was amazing! I have never had a bad meal here! I would definitely recommend you stop by here if you are visiting Santa Fe!
google avatar

Liza P.

Yelp
Drooooool Yummmmmmmmmmmm More tacos please Delicious fast friendly and omg so yummmmmm

Yelp
Look let's be real.. Bernice and family set the bar. Period. Best breakfast burritos in the U.S.,, prove me wrong. Service is always outstanding. My advice call ahead or be happy to sit in your car and wait.its worth it. I'd stand in santa fe blizzard for chile toreado!
google avatar

S And E N.

Yelp
My wife heard about this place from the santa fe foodie group... there are a few good tips from there. We are sooooooooo happy we tried it out. There was a line, luckily we called in our order. The people taking orders and handing out the food were very friendly, even saying thanks so much for all your support, and sorry for the wait. Here is what sealed the deal for us being from the W. coast, the burritos have rice and beans inside! What!? And they have flavor, My wife got carne asada burrito, I got veg burrito, they both were amazing, such great flavor, not fatty or greasy at all. The green chili sauce was great. The veg burrito was prob the best I've ever had.... I'm not sure what veg were actually included but there was potato and crispy cheese and that's all I need to be very happy. We will be back to try every single meat option.
google avatar

Pat E.

Yelp
Wow. Some of the best food I've had in NM. Definitely the best quesadilla I've had in my life (how do they get the cheese so crispy?). The veggie option is great, but I'm sure the meats taste good too. Met the owner too (Luis?), who was very personable and passionate about this place. Will be coming here again.

chris t.

Yelp
Delicious, friendly, well priced. If you are looking to scratch that taco itch look no further. I haven't had their burritos (yet) but have had tacos for both breakfast and lunch and they are excellent. The provided salsas are a perfect accompaniment and during lunch the condiment bar lets you dress just the way you like it. I did see someone take advantage of the condiment bar creating literally a salad in a sandwich bag, don't be that person! The staff is super friendly and was very helpful the first time I ordered and had some questions on the menu.
google avatar

Heike S.

Yelp
I have made it my mission to eat at a taco truck at least once a day while here in New Mexico, and this was my second taco truck stop. Excellent choice! On recommendation of what I think was the owner I had a Barbacoa (from the cheek of beef) and it was so delicious! My Asada taco was also but it was not as well seasoned. The green chili sauce was fire. If I lived close by this would definitely be one of my go to taco trucks
google avatar

L V.

Yelp
"Man, you know a place is good when they close at 2pm" I tell my wife as we are driving up to this place. And I was not wrong. I got the carne asada burrito and it was one of the best burritos I've had in a really long time. My wife got the vegetarian burrito and I was like "damn I shoulda ordered one of those so I could eat it later!" But I didn't and now I regret it. Anyways 5/5. Amazing!!

Hayden W.

Yelp
Best breakfast burrito ive had in town by a mile and ive tried them all. Ive found the bfast burritos really lacking after moving from CA but this hits the spot!!
google avatar

Kelly B.

Yelp
Um... wow! I've never had better marinated meat or fresher salsas. The food is so fresh and flavorful. Although this is a taco truck, it's the best Mexican food in town. Well done. My husband raved about this place for months. I finally went (with extremely high expectations). Let's just say 6 trips later Each trip just exceeds exp, been impressed with everything I've had. The carne aside quesadilla will make you cry. Al Pastor breakfast tacos with the green salsa and fixings are my go to and that carnitas burrito... oh man... just go.
google avatar

Ripp P.

Yelp
El Chile Toreado serves up some of the best, friendliest food in Santa Fe. I'm partial to the tacos, but you can't miss with anything on the menu. It's often the first place I take visitors when I want to wow 'em. I'm kind of sad for the poor saps I see walking into Chipotle across the street.
google avatar

Dawn E.

Yelp
Now this right here... is what you drive down from Denver to Santa Fe for. Very dee licious!! I should have taken more pics, but I was so hungry. very good though.
google avatar

Kenneth O.

Yelp
Wow!! Such a delicious spot to grab a quick burrito. We got the Al pastor and the pollo con limon burritos and both were perfect. The salsas they came with were delicious and unique, and the restaurant offers free accompaniments like pickled onions, jalapeños, and carrots. The service was very kind -- we even saw the woman working the register offer free beans and rice to a couple with a baby. There are tables to eat at outside, but you won't be sitting at them long, since you will wolf this down. I will be coming back to try the breakfast burrito!
google avatar

Michael X.

Yelp
Have been here quite a number of times now, and the food here is always off the charts amazing, and staff is friendly. Highly recommend.
