"Not all consommé are created equal, and comparing the sauce at El Indio to others is like Lebron playing a pick up game with school kids. There’s no competition here. It’s beefy. It’s not oily. It’s so rich it could make cardboard taste delicious (but the tacos are quite good too). And it’s so thick that it reminds us of a stew, especially with the chunks of beef swimming around. That means you can eat it with a spoon without ducking behind the napkin holders to do so in secret. Everyone at this busy Norcross spot knows the deal and is finishing their consommé, too." - juli horsford

"If you live in Norcross, El Indio should already be part of your lunch rotation. If you’re an ITPer who won’t venture past I-285, you need to make an exception. This counter-service spot sits in a strip mall and quietly churns out fantastic Mexican dishes. The one unmissable here is the cheesy birria taco with tender shredded beef and a consommé that’s more like a stew since it's swimming with giant chunks of beef. The fast-casual dining room with modest booths and meals served on plastic trays is peppered with conversations in Spanish and stays bumping at all hours (even until midnight on weekends). So prepare to wait in the line to order—and then in another line to snag spicy sauces from the salsa bar. Food Rundown photo credit: Sarah Newman Quesatacos The tacos are good. The consommé is better (so far, our favorite in the metro). Get a spoon so you don't leave even a single drop of the beefy, rich broth behind. Rice & Beans This simple dish goes well with any meal. The orange rice is the perfect balance for the soupy refried beans. Asada Tacos The asada is cut up into tiny pieces and is so tender and flavorful you don't even need to add any salsa. photo credit: Sarah Newman photo credit: Sarah Newman photo credit: Sarah Newman" - Juli Horsford

I made a mistake and ordered at the wrong location. So I was told to cancel before ordering at this location and did, I had no issue doing so. I went back in line and after they finished with the customer in front of me they walked away from the register when it was my turn to order. It was more important to dry the trays and chit chat in the corner. They didn’t take my order until more people got in line behind me. The food here is amazing but the customer service doesn’t reflect that. If I could upload the video I would. Some of the cashiers tend to have a racial bias. I placed an order previously and had my boyfriend ( who’s black ) pick it up, they looked at him with disgust, made him step to the side and take the order of the person behind him.

Google
This is the BEST food I have tasted since my mother's home cooking. EVERYTHING is delicious and the staff is sweet and very honest! I on my second visit (already addicted) mistakenly didn't take my change and went to a different store while waiting. Upon arrival back they were already waiting with receipt and my change smiling! Please try at least once!!

The very friendly people, the truth is I quite liked the attention, the very good, very rich food they give you quite a lot too. Not like other places I've been. They give you different, they give you. Different quantity, the truth is I am very satisfied, I am a trailer driver that I work for.FEDEX And the truth that I had not visited that site if I have gone to other sites, but this one especially this site I liked very nice attention and very delicious food, I recommend it to other people who go to eat at this restaurant. And I am of Peruvian nationality, I really liked it a lot. The food.

Google
My Birria tacos were delicious - juicy, seasoned well, and full of flavor. Probably one of the most satisfying quick lunches you can have in this area for a reasonable price. My wife had Pollo Asado: huge size for the $ in my opinion. It wasn’t bad but the chicken didn’t taste fresh because it tasted slightly off (it’s not the seasoning, not my 1st time having this dish). Also, a small portion of the leg meat wasn’t fully cooked. Side notes: - The parking is limited so keep that in mind. - Men’s restroom was dirty and hot water didn’t work. - The entire time I was eating, there was a car (full of ppl) playing super loud music right in front.

Google
Great place for menudo. Birria quesadilla was good too. I want to come back to try all the other stuff!

Google
Best Birria steak Quesadillas Con Consomé I’ve ever had !!! The Quesadillas were literally the size of pizza slices . I loved it. The tacos are amazing as well . I’ve been here three times in a row take out only , and the food is amazing .

Google
I just want to thank the owners and the chef for their service to the community and sharing the food. My gosh people, just stop what you are doing, shut up, and drive to this establishment and eat all of the food. Or order delivery like I did but whatever. JUST EAT ALL THE FOOD. Your soul will thank you.

Google
People are very nice, food is great. The taste is great. Very clean. I come here all the time. Real Mexican food. Price is affordable spent $33.61. My wife recommends the Birria Tacos and I recommend chicken Quesadilla. 07/14/2023 Updating review. Went back again with the wife. This time I ordered something different. I ordered the 🐔 Burrito 🌯 rice, beans and salad for $11.99. Wife ordered her favorite the Birria Tacos 🌮. That's four tacos for $9.00. El Indio does not play with food, they give you plenty of meat which is great. Adding additional photos.

Yelp
El Indio is soooo good--it's easily worth the 25-minute drive every time! They serve up authentic Mexican food that hits all the right notes, with flavors that feel homemade and packed with love. Their birria tacos are absolutely to die for--perfectly seasoned, juicy, and paired with that rich, flavorful consommé that takes them to the next level. The dining room is cozy and a great spot to sit and enjoy your meal if you're not taking it to-go. The staff is friendly, and the cashiers are bilingual, making the experience smooth whether you speak English or Spanish. El Indio is a must-visit for anyone craving real, authentic Mexican food. It's a place I'd happily go out of my way for--and you should too!

Ashley T.

Yelp
I order the QuesaBirria whenever I come here and it's was absolutely amazing. I've never experienced a huge crowd and the wait time is not long. The food is cooked to order, so it's usually hot and fresh. The atmosphere of the restaurant is normally calm. I can enjoy one of my favorite comfort meals inside.

Nic R.

Yelp
Highly recommend this spot! Food is fresh and authentic as they can be. Staff/employees mostly speak Spanish so be patient and articulate your order well to avoid mistakes in your order and to support them. Food came out in a reasonable amount of time given the crowd. There are lots of parking spots in the plaza where this joint is located as well as other food options. Prices are reasonable for the service, ambiance, quality, and portions. This is a 10/10 must try in the area. I also recommend to STOP eating at Tex-Mex Gentrified Mexican Food restaurants like Moe's, Chipotle, or El Pollo Loco.

Lauren B.

Yelp
I love this place! my favorite place for birria tacos!! yummy food very authentic hispanic food! it was definitely a hole in the wall but it has become more popular and i feel like the quality has stayed the same

Tyler A.

Yelp
I haven't had that good of birria tacos in a while,Overall the food was better than my sleep and my bed

JaNeese G.

Yelp
The food here is amazing!! It's delicious, authentic, and the price is great. This was my first time trying birria tacos and they were so flavorful!! I had the shrimp and steak fajitas - the steak was super tender and the shrimp were delicious with a little spicy kick to them. I would definitely eat here again!

Jessica R.

Yelp
The place is your typical Mexican Restaurant but everything I tried is delicious. I go back at least once per week. I'm a foodie so I don't say that a lot.

Tim C.

Yelp
I got a burrito el plato with lengua and it was delicious. The meat was tender, the flavors were on point, the portion size was huge, and I was very satisfied with my meal. I called a pretty big order ahead of time, and they were able to accommodate my order needs over the phone. They took my card over the phone, which is understandable for such a large order. But to my pleasant surprise, the order was ready in about the 10 minutes it took for me to drive there, and everything was accurate. My kids enjoyed the quesadillas, too - the kids meals are a good deal!

Yelp
~ First review of 2024 ~ El Indio is my favorite Mexican food chain in the Atlanta area even into 2024. Consistently delicious food, accuracy, and great value/portions. I've ordered from this location several times and only had one bad experience where the consommé with the birria tacos was just oily and no flavor. That same day the pork in the pozole was also a little undercooked and on the tough side. Every other time has been a great meal though, so this does not affect my rating. I'm sure they just had a busy day. If you have not tried birria or birriaquesa tacos yet, you're missing out! I highly recommend any of the El Indio locations. They are all great. I cannot really speak to the ambiance for this location, as I just get take out or delivery most times. However you plan to order, I'm sure there is something on the menu for you to enjoy.

Cindy R.

Yelp
Came here with some friends and decided to try it out! The place looked pretty normal, a little outdated which meant that it will be good. The lady took our order and we waited about 10 mins to receive our food. (It was half full) Once I dug in the tacos were amazing, they get soggy for a while and are very greasy (car oil tacos lol!) They were great and the passion fruit water was bomb. Will be back! But next time I'll bring the TUMS!

Bradley F.

Yelp
Pesimo servicio hicimos la orden y se olvidaron de agregarnos una sprite y cuando la pedimos para pagar nos la dieron de una mala actitud.

Hannah Y.

Yelp
The Birria tacos are more greasy than others I've had, but I think they're good. It's the closest Birria tacos to my house, and it's been good enough for me to have become a regular.

Jessica L.

Yelp
Tripe taco 5/5 SO good, especially after all the toppings I added from the salsa bar. Birria quesadilla 3.5/5 it had too much meat, I know it's a weird complaint, and not enough seasoning. The consume that came with it was good and light. Workers there were very friendly.

Shannelle W.

Yelp
So last night was my first time here an i give this place a 6/10 . I finally got a chance to try the birria tacos aka the car oil tacos lol it's about two other names people call it but it was definitely good. I had the birra quesadilla it was with beef that kinda looked like stew beef meat . It was big and good , it was like a big quesadilla, cut into 3 . I was also able to try a birria taco I only got one. It had the stew beef kinda meat in it as well . Everything was packed up into different containers with different kinds of sauces to try. I went around 10 o'clock at night and it was worth it a little crowded for it to be that late but people were there and it was going fast . You have the option to sit inside or to take out , I believe this is a Mexican restaurant.

Nicole B.

Yelp
I was looking for somewhere with birria tacos and found El Indio. Since then, I feel like I crave them at least every other week. This place has the best birria tacos I've ever had (not that I've had much experience with them), but I like that their menu gives you so many options as well. You could get the birria plate or birria quesadilla instead if you're not feeling tacos. I generally like to order one plate of the tacos and one of the quesadilla and split half of each with my husband. Both are so good that I can't ever decide which one I want, so we get both. The cup that they give you is so big that you could make one order and just order extra tacos and still have enough to dip with all your tacos. That's generally what we do. They also have a cart on the side that you can grab your own sauces and extra toppings. It's nice because you can grab as much as you want. Service is generally pretty fast, and they keep the place pretty clean considering this is a pretty messy meal. Just writing this review already makes me want to go back again. El Indio is definitely a must try!

Jok N.

Yelp
Good tacos de tripa y birria tacos!! I love getting food from here its always so good!

Andrea C.

Yelp
I am a regular at El Indio and I have never been let down. The carne asada is amazing and always makes my Mexican heart happy. Today my boyfriend and I went and grabbed some tacos and sopes. The wait is short and this location expanded the dining area so being crowded is never a dilemma. You receive a little beeping device when your food is ready so there's not an issue with waiting right in front of the registers anymore. TIP: get the mango juice!!

Sumekio A.

Yelp
Pulled up on a Tuesday at 8pm and it was packed. Started raining and since it was crowded I ordered to-go. You get a little buzzer and can take it to the car. Took about 30 minutes but my birria quesatacos were fresh and muy delicioso! The location is in a busy Latin strip plaza. Nothing fancy but it's clean. Give them a try...you won't be sorry!

Isidra R.

Yelp
Food is very good and the service is fast. The ambiance is noisy but good family restaurant

Jeremy J.

Yelp
I love coming here on Tuesdays! I usually get the birria tacos, the guacamole, and the chicken tacos. The food was amazing! Service was great also! And the ambiance gives off a relaxed vibe. Definitely recommending to all of my friends!

Yelp
Story time: I love this place I've a couple times couple times with friends and couple times solo. I love the food here as I grew up I've developed a bad relationship with food I have to have friends remind me to eat. I drive from Kennesaw to this restaurant Food: This place food checks all my boxes. This place is my go to for Mexican. Full of flavor cheesy heaven and overall delicious food. Top choices: the tacos with the soup perfect for year round or Ramon also great for winter Time: The wait vary depending on time and day. But the food is consistent and always worth it Environment: the location is a bit sketchy but that where the best food is. Side note: calling in orders are really good

Sonja M.

Yelp
it's in a plaza so you might miss it but I hope you don't. have your Spanish app ready to go or speak it fluently cause there was one person that spoke English. I've been to their sister restaurant so it's not totally new - but just like the other location, everyone was very friendly and helpful. smiles on the front line as well as in the back of the house. Someone was wiping tables and trays, keeping the dining room tidy.

Lamar N.

Yelp
Always bomb. Been coming here for months now and it's by far the best mexican food in the Atlanta metro area. The menudo and pozole have amazingly rich broth. The menudo is cut and prepped into perfect sizes. The birria queso tacos are what they are popular for and well deserving but their asada is the best meat option. Followed closely by the tripas and barbacoa. Honestly all their meats are top performers. Salsa bar is always well stocked. The carrots are the best. Service is always kind and fast. I've gone at least 15 times in the last three months.

Moriah C.

Yelp
This is the second time I've tried this place. Both times I've ordered delivery. Pro: Food arrives quickly, and still hot! Con: the inside shell was raw both times, which presents a texture issue for me. Crispy outer shell, plus a soft inner shell, dipped in the consomme, I just couldn't get past it. I've read in a another review on here the same thing, and that it's better to dine in. The first time i had just the tacos, same issue. This time I tried the Ramen with the tacos. Ramen wasn't bad, thin noodles, with a good portion of the beef! It may be just me, but the flavor was lacking a bit compared to other birria I've had, BUT the limes really helped it out! Ask for extra lime and it will be good. Overall, portions and presentation are good for the price.

Charles H.

Yelp
Love this spot!!! Ramen is crazy good!!! The quesadillas is awesome too.... Definitely should try this one out....

Betty S.

Yelp
Yikes I gave my 5 star review to the wrong spot !! Even though it's a franchise it seems the other location might not have the seafood Birria..See that's what happens when your blood sugar levels are up from consuming so much meat and corn products but dazammm it's worth it lol !! I want more today it's like crack running through my veins !! Hey I never smoked crack before but I'm sure if I did it would feel like this cause I'm sweating thinking about dipping my tacos in that creamy seafood juice !! Get up and go get uuuuu some

Jessica W.

Yelp
El Indio has always been a staple for authentic Mexican food!! In the recent years they've served Birria Queso tacos and they are to diieee for Always ask what the meat is birria is just stewed meat. Typically It's goat or beef and sometimes chicken. It's a taco and quesadilla in one and you dip it in this yummy soup like sauce that's consume! I'm a noodle girl all day so I order with Maruchen consume'. The meal with noodles comes with 2 standard comes with 3. The sauces that come with it are a little spicy the red more than the green be aware. They do deliver I've used door dash

Christian D.

Yelp
Great birria, and they don't skimp on the portions, I'll be going back often - welcome to Roswell!

Megan W.

Yelp
We ordered takeout here just to try their birria tacos and quesadilla. We went in and placed our order, but the line was almost out the door on a weeknight. Moreover, there is no social distancing or enforcing of masks, even while you wait in line to order. I was a little uncomfortable with the crowd, so I waited outside for my order. Since it was busy, there were a lot of issues with picking up. Several people who ordered after me received their food first, so the wait was over 30 minutes. Nonetheless, our food was still warm when we got home. They give you a selection of sauces to choose from -- I really enjoyed their spicy salsa and tangy vinaigrette. For three birria tacos, the price (~$12) wasn't absurd, but I also wasn't super impressed. Thankfully, the tacos were generously stuffed too. Next time, I would probably opt for dine-in to get them fresh!

B C.

Yelp
Service was quick! Multilingual staff! Inside is clean. Food is very good. I had my order Togo because it was near closing, but I did not feel rushed when I placed my order inside. I enjoyed the meal at home and I plan to visit again!

Toni W.

Yelp
I have always been a fan of El Indio, but our recent visit gets it all the stars! I was late to the party on birria tacos, but when all the pics and articles about them started show up on Insta, I knew I was going to have to get in on the trend. One article I encountered recommended five restaurants in the Metro Atlanta area, and El Indio was on the list. That happens to be near our neighborhood, so one Friday night we decided to give them a shot. My husband and I each ordered the birria taco dinner, which came with three tacos and consome. We ordered through the Yelp Grubhub option with no problems whatsoever. When we went to pick up our order, we realized that this place is seriously hopping on a Friday night. The parking lot was PACKED. Since we were a little early, we decided to drive around a bit to avoid the fray until it was time for our pickup. As we approached our pick-up time, we lucked out and found a spot on the side of the restaurant which allowed us to avoid the most congested area. Pick-up was quick and easy, and the order was exactly right. Now, the tacos. They were excellent. The flavor was rich, deep, and meaty. This was no health food, make no mistake. But the indulgence was totally worth it. I get the birria taco hype! We ordered take-out because we have not been dining in yet, but I think the tacos would even be better fresh. We can't wait to come again when we can enjoy them fresh and inside the restaurant. We will definitely be back! If you haven't tried these yet, give them a shot! You won't regret it!

Amadelia P.

Yelp
This location don't take orders over the phone in less you pay in advance, a lot of people now these days use their phone to pay. I don't recommend this place in less you have time to wait for your food. Or have your credit cards on you all the time By Jackie pineda

Mhailene M.

Yelp
I came here for the birria tacos and they were delicious!! It's worth the hype so go try them out !! I came during lunch time and they were super busy!! This is a great sign. It made a little nervous there were a bunch of people inside but I wore my mask and just stayed to myself until got my food. I ordered the birria tacos and this spot is for authentic tacos if that's what you are after. They do have an array of other dishes with the menu up top and you just order at the counter. They have a salsa bar but they also have little pre made sauces for you to take with you so I didn't go to that area. Waiting for the food was a fine and my tacos stayed nice and crisp with the consomé was a great compliment. It didn't seem oily and it was flavorful. I'd like to come back to try more dishes that they serve.

Gloria U.

Yelp
LET ME TELLLLLL YOUUUU!! I've been looking for some good birria tacos in Atlanta and have been struggling but when I stumbled upon El Indio I was excited! I saw photos and video online and knew from the way the cheese was ooooozing it was going to hit! The birria combo comes with 3 tacos and dipping sauce for about $11. The line can be long but they move quickly! The menu is overwhelming but just ignore it and go for birria. They call out numbers in Spanish so make sure you check out Rosetta Stone upon arrival! You're gonna need it if you plan to get your food! It's an authentic spot! They have birria tacos (corn tortilla) and birria quesadillas (flour tortilla).

Nate C.

Yelp
Not that impressive on my first visit. Could have been the help that assisted me ringing out my order. On the first attempt I requested Birria with steak and chicken tacos. In my ignorance, traditionally birria is consistent used with stew beef; hence the wet consome that accompanies the tacos for dipping. In my defense however, I have been places where you can purchase steak and chicken birria consome. I guess it depends on who's cooking and if they follow tradition vs creative options. When I learned how it works it appeared to be a big deal to back out the order and start over paying a difference. So I just kept what I got. What I learned was it is good to venture out and try new things. I also learned that I may have to stick to what I know and ask questions before finalizing orders. Getting people who are not comfortable in their skin and pass their timidness is an art. I just kept it simple What I got was sufficient. It was not what I wanted but I am grateful

Rebecca H.

Yelp
I see why this place as a line out the door. Best birria tacos in Tucker. They are addictive. When we walked in the entire menu was in Spanish and the workers spoke little English so we knew the food was going poppin' and authentic. Worth the long lines! This review is going to encourage more to people and we are going to hate the wait but we can't keep this place to ourselves.

Judy Z.

Yelp
I wanted birria tacos, and this place was the closest to my new house. Be aware that it can get pretty loud, and the cashier may or may not know English. There is a card minimum so bring cash if you're not ordering much here. But I doubt you couldn't order anything below $10 unless it's a drink. Get the birria tacos! You won't be dissatisfied.

Morgan M.

Yelp
Best tacos around, they're filled with meat! I love the asada tacos the best. The staff is very friendly. They are currently open for dine in, up to 5 people at one table. There is social distancing stickers on the floor for people ordering inside. Then you wait outside to receive your order. There is a speaker outside which calls your number, very efficient so there's not a lot of people inside waiting. $1.79 a taco. I definitely recommend this place for tacos and other good food! Great prices and good quality. I would like to let you know the parking lot might be a bit tight depending on the time of day you go. The parking lot is small and can feel crowded. I try to park on the other side near the papa johns to avoid the crowded and tight parking spaces I also like to get the Mango Agua Fresca!!

Adia S.

Yelp
I ordered the Birria Quesadilla. I requested the onions be grilled in my quesadilla. It was good. I was not a fan of how it was packaged for To-go order. It was probably 16 inches long on a piece of cardboard wrapped in two bags. Which means the oil from the Birria Quesadilla got everywhere. The cashier was friendly. No complaints. The seating area is nothing special. My rating is a 2-3. I would possibly come back if I was craving this.

Christopher C.

Yelp
The food is great but 5 stars dont make up just for the food, customer service also comes into account when rating. The service from the girls in the counter is terrible they have stank faces as if they dislike their jobs, theres a little hispanic girl with highlights that is always with a bad attitude when attending my family and I. It is currently well over 45 minutes before closing the restaurant is completely full like full to the point where there are no seats and they closed off the left side of seats because they do not wanna have to clean, i think its completely unacceptable and dont know if Ill continue coming here.

Pablo F.

Yelp
Food was alright. I ordered my food on the phone and this is the 2nd time they have the f'ing nerve to ask "would you leave tip?" While I'm giving them my card info to pay. It's seriously ridiculous.

Emily H.

Yelp
The Birria tacos were excellent. Only like $13 after tax. We went during lunch rush hour on a Tuesday, and our order took maybe 5-8min.. not bad for that time! We're looking forward to going back again soon

Luyan Y.

Yelp
Saw this place as a recommendation from TikTok so I decided to try it. They only had the beef Birria Tacos so I was a bit disappointed since I really wanted to try the seafood one (in another location). The tacos were pretty delicious, very stuffed and adding the red sauce and lime, the taste was superb. The beef itself needs more flavor in my opinion but I love the texture. It was my first time trying consommé but it was really greasy, a bit too greasy to my liking so I couldn't finish it. I also got a mango juice they had on the side and for the price of ($2.00) for a small, it was a generous amount. I absolutely loved the taste of that mango juice, it was so refreshing on a hot summer day and also it balance out the greasiness of the taco and consommé. They also allow ($1.00) refill if you do want more. The place was definitely really popular since every table was full during the time I went. But they don't take social distancing seriously and it was just so packed I wouldn't sit there to dine in anytime soon. Overall, just commentary on the food, I loved it and would want to try other food they have!

Monica H.

Yelp
The food here is amazing; the service matches! It can be quite busy here and rightly so! The barria ramen is my favorite .

Mansi R.

Yelp
Quick spot for some traditional Mexican street tacos, food, and drinks. You order at the counter and they call your number when the food is ready. We went on a busy Saturday afternoon and the food came out pretty quickly. Hubby got the chicken and steak tacos. They are tiny so order 4-5 if you are really hungry. They are 1.25-1.50 a piece. I wanted something simple so I got a cheese quesadilla which comes with a salad, guacamole, and sour cream. They have a salsa and toppings bar as well. We like spicy sauces and they had a couple of good options. The habanero was pretty good. I also recommend getting one of their drinks. I got the Jamaica drink which is a slightly spiced hibiscus drink.

Jazmine L.

Yelp
Visiting from out of town, found El Indio on yelp and had to come try the Birria Quesa Tacos!! They did not disappoint, they WERE DELICIOUS!!!!!!! Thank you!!!!

Shaquanda M.

Yelp
First time here! Finding El Indio was easy, it's in a plaza right at the intersection. When I arrived it was packed, not a lot of parking spots were open I had to drive around twice to get parking in front of the restaurant. When you walk in it's loud so if you want peace and quiet this is not the place. The menu was a lot but I just asked the cashier about birria tacos, she said yes we only have A or B. So I ordered birria tacos (A)Beef. It didn't take long at all, maybe 5 minutes or less. They gave me a buzzer and they call your number out in Spanish, so pay attention if you're not up on your Spanish and don't have a buzzer. The tacos were good! However the dipping sauce was hot but kind of bland, wish it had more flavor. I went on a Friday night and they closed at 12am!!!! When you don't want Waffle House this should definitely be the go to. Will definitely go back to try something else on the menu.

Yelp
This place can fill up quickly depending on the hour. There are other options in the area that said not really sure why this place on several visits does so much buisness? The tacos are the smallest you will ever eat, at $1.30 sounds like a bargin right? Wrong. All tacos are served with cilantro, onions and limes unless requested otherwise. Know that size wise the circumference is of a small orange. Sopes can be ordered either chicken or beef served with tomatoes, lettuce and cheese. Know you will need to pick it up and eat it or ask for metal silverware to cut through these here. The plastic silverware just bends and cannot cut through the finished product. The dough is to thick and hard. Anyone following me knows I have a "thing" for sope I just don't enjoy them here. A small cart is out that has two different sauces a green and a red, pickled onions, radishes, carrots and peppers.
