"El Porton de la Flaca sounds like a hit single by Juanes. But it’s really a Colombian restaurant in Doral that does a few things well, and others just meh. They excel in sancocho de costilla de res. It’s delicious, filling, and comes with a side of rice, salad, and tostones. But stay away from the bland bandeja paisa with chicharron that needs an extra few minutes in the fryer. Still, it’s a cute restaurant that feels like a ranch and is worth a visit just for the sancocho. photo credit: CLEVELAND JENNINGS / @EATTHECANVASLLC photo credit: CLEVELAND JENNINGS / @EATTHECANVASLLC photo credit: CLEVELAND JENNINGS / @EATTHECANVASLLC" - Mariana Trabanino

A hidden gem of Colombian food in the Doral area of Miami. Excellent Colombian cuisine with that unbeatable homemade touch. Very good prices. Recommended: Bandeja Paisa

Saturday 2/01/25 I wanted to provide some feedback based on my experience. The food at this establishment was delicious and clearly made with fresh ingredients, which I appreciated. However, I would like to address some concerns I had regarding the service. In my case, the service felt impersonal as it seemed that multiple waitresses were attending to our table, rather than one dedicated server. I am unsure if this was a one-time occurrence or if this is standard practice at your restaurant on busy days such as Saturdays. Additionally, I was surprised to find that an 18% gratuity had been automatically included in my bill. While I understand the importance of tipping for good service, I have never encountered a restaurant that added the gratuity without prior consultation, especially for a party of only two. Tipping is a gesture that I believe should be voluntary and based on the quality of service received. Overall the dining experience was good, but these aspects left a bit of a sour note.  Maybe management is not aware of these practices; who knows?

Food was so delicious. I had a calentado with steak and egg came with an arepa. I had un batido de guanábana en leche and it was one of the best I’ve had in Miami. I also had La sopa de lentejas and it was so delicious. Besides my moms it’s the best one around. Everyone was nice and they were kind enough to box up my left overs.

Excellent hole in the wall restaurant! Very authentic. Great food, full of flavor.

Google
First time around here, asked for the daily lunch special, pretty much affordable 😁 it comes with the soup of the day it can be chicken, vegetables for those vegetarian ppl, I asked for sancocho and I liked it. For the main plate I asked for beef that included rice, toston, plátano maduro frito and salad, for the drink I asked for a Colombian soda (orange). The service went over my expectations, they are very friendly and explain in deep what their plates are about, the time to serve the food was incredible fast, very efficient. I really enjoyed my time here and can’t wait to come back to keep learning about Colombian food.

Most delicious cake! We had the honor to have Ana Paz Cakes make our wedding cake. It was exactly what we wanted and it tasted delicious!!! It was professionally done, the detail was great and all the guests loved it! We are so grateful and blessed to have had Ana make our wedding cake. I highly recommend her!

I was in the mood for Colombian food and this restaurant was highly recommended so I gave it a try. I am so glad I did! The bandeja paisa was amazing and the environment felt like I was sitting at a Colombian family table. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

Yelp
I found this place in quite a rush and it was the best, last minute judgement I could have made. Located down the road between Dolphin and International mall, you can easily miss this gem if you aren't looking for it. The moment you do walk in here though, you are greeted by Spanish decor, an older lady working the bar and the tv's playing Colombian news. The aesthetics are ALL there. Before it was a Colombian restaurant, it was a Spanish spot for 15 years. The new owners, who've now been here for 9, mentioned that they didn't want to change any of the fixtures. They did well. I loved it from the first moment I walked in. The prices are great, food comes out fresh and hot and I almost don't have to wait long for it. It's great for any time of the day, but you'll normally catch me here for breakfast or lunch. I've had simple breakfast (eggs and arepas) and also their special of the day. Normally it comes with a full plate of food that you may not even finish; definitely recommend it though. The staff is super friendly and they play live music on Friday's and Saturday's!

Yelp
Excellent food, the breakfast, fish, juices, empanadas all is delicious. The service is great too. Highly recommend.

Yelp
What a wonderful little gem of a restaurant. We love their mondongo soup and always appreciate the kindness of the ladies that work there. It feels like you're eating at home. They treat and serve you with such kindness and care. The portions are generous, fresh, and absolutely delicious. Our little one is a picky eater but loves the broth of their soup. The lady is nice enough to bring her extra broth. As a mother, I appreciate this so much. This place doesn't feel like a hurry up and eat so I can bill you kind of place but a place where they really put love into the meals they make.

Lili A.

Yelp
Ayer fui a desayunar con mi hija y la arepa que me nos sirvieron estaba más dura que el plato. Yesterday I went to have breakfast with my daughter and the arepa they served me was harder than the plate.

Christina D.

Yelp
Amazing place! We've been coming here for years!! The inside is nicely set up and has a lot of Columbian cultured decorations. The waitresses there are always nice to us! I decided to try their mora juice today, and omg it was so refreshing! We always order a few empanadas as an appetizer. They taste soo good, especially with the spicy sauce that they have at the table. And then for entrees, their bandeja paisa is a huge entree! We normally get it with their steak (always cooked perfectly), and it comes with pork skin, maduros, rice, beans, a fried egg, and your choice of an arepa or a tostone. And their portion sizes are generous!! And i forgot to take a pic of the dessert sadly but we normally get a pudding that comes with a side of raisins; very yummy! Oh and they also have live music that i think starts around like 8:00 but i dont really remember. Overall this place has always been our favorite Columbian spot and you have got to try it!!

Natalia O.

Yelp
Thank you Yelp for suggesting this amazing, authentic spot tucked away in Doral! Though I'm not Colombian, I can tell this place is very authentic due to the crowd and the ambiance. We had a Bandeja paisa, sobrebarriga (not pictured) and carne asada de res. The plates were abundant to say the least and the prices were extremely reasonable. We took a ton of food home, which I am excited about lol! There was live music, though I'm not sure how often and when this happens. I definitely recommend coming here for a unique dining experience.

Christopher V.

Yelp
This is a hole in the wall in an unassuming shopping mall. I found it by accident, and boy was I pleasantly surprised. The food was delicious, and really felt and tasted like a home-cooked meal. The empanadas were to die for, try them with the hot sauce. The meat was super tender and had just the right seasoning. Our waitress was ok, not spectacular, and we did have to wait a lot in between courses. It was Mother's Day, so I'll give them a pass. There is plenty of parking everywhere, I'm surprised more people hasn't discovered this place. I will definitely return!

David G.

Yelp
Alright, if you're looking for some Colombian home cooking, you've come to the right place. The food here is delicious, well priced, and always tastes fresh. It's one of those places you come to once and then want to eat at 3 times a week, it's that good. Why the 4 stars and not 5 you ask? Well, unfortunately our waitress (both times I've been here) was not very good and it was the same one both times. She needs a few hours of "how to be more welcoming" training, it's like she's annoyed that we were there. The restaurant is also a bit dark and dingy, so it could definitely use an upgrade there. Elite tip: The parking lot is tiny and fills up really fast. Allow yourself some time to find parking. All in all this place is great and I highly recommend it.

Joanna V.

Yelp
This place is tucked in a nondescript strip mall. When you walk in you are fully transported to a cute typical Colombian restaurant. The server was gracious and sweet. The food was delicious. The rice wasn't my favorite as it was a little hard. But everything else on my plate was great. The lunch special is a great deal. You chose between a couple protein options and it comes with a side of rice, beans or a soup, salad, tostone, and maduros. I chose the pechuga a la plancha (which was very yummy) and paired it with one of their natural juices (maracuyá/passion fruit).

Laura S.

Yelp
Great hidden gem! Authentic Colombian cuisine. The restaurant is located in a shopping center with plenty of parking. Dishes were tasty & well priced. Service was friendly but could have been more efficient, we waited a really long time to get our check. Overall great experience and highly recommend if you're looking for a delicious Colombian meal.

Allison D.

Yelp
Great Colombian restaurant, it is a great option for lunch during the week. Savory, big portions, everything well prepared and fresh. Service is good, prices are great. The restaurant is clean and welcoming. Everything we ordered was delicious.

Milano D.

Yelp
this was the best Colombian restaurant I've been ever. The service was outstanding and the food was like heaven Check out the pictures and a video of the food a restaurant at our YouTube Chanel AMeGoes: Adventure

Yelp
What a great surprise! Looking for an easy, yummy spot for a Keto friendly breakfast and found El Portón de la Flaca. We were greeted as if we were visiting a family members upon walking in and promptly offered coffee with a huge, warm smile! We each ordered different plates and each plate was nicely served and delicious. The Chicharron was very yummy and the arepas nicely toasted and delicious. The restaurant itself looked very warm and welcoming, as if you were in Medellin.

G G.

Yelp
This was a phenomenal place to eat. Hidden on a strip mall it is a place to try in Miami. The food is great and portions are large. They have live entertainment at 8pm and it is really fun. The service is top notch. Very friendly waitresses and overall great experience. So glad we found it!

Mom O.

Yelp
They tried to steal my mother in laws card and acted rudely when trying to find the card. Then magically found it carefully placed in the kitchen. Plus their service was dry and slow. I too of that they charged 10$ for tip.

Juan R.

Yelp
Amazing Colombian cuisine. The atmosphere is very homely and kind. Sit yourself down if there are tables available or attend the bar. The food is amazing. Breakfast is served all day. The Bandeja Paisa is about $20. Totally worth it. Does not bring morcilla or chorizo, which could be a dealbreaker for some. I will continue to come here until I'm old

Arelys Q.

Yelp
We stopped by on a Saturday for lunch, since we were staying nearby. I'm so glad we gave this place a try. We ordered empanadas and a bandeja paisa. The food was delicious and freshly cooked. The server was very pleasant and fast in bringing out our food. I will visit again whenever I'm in the area. By the way, this is not a big place to come in a big group, it's literally a hole in the wall.

Kimberly R.

Yelp
This is the best authentic Colombian restaurant in Miami. If you are looking for great homemade Colombian seasoning El Portón de la Flaca is the place.

Juan E.

Yelp
Instead of calling this place a restaurant it should be call a nursing home because of its very very old employees and I don't mind an old person working but the ladies the work there are very mean and they have a rude attitude towards clientele and I'm guessing the lack of service it's because of the waitresses age they don't have the patience or the capacity and kindness that they need to do this type of work

Marisela P.

Yelp
Everything about this place is a charm. Love the ladies that serve there. Its homey and clean, beautiful live music on Fridays and the best bandeja paisa in town and great prices on the lunch menu too. Love going there for my Colombian food and catching up with La flaca

Cassie P.

Yelp
Craving Colombian in Doral proved to be a fruitful experience thanks to El Porton de la Flaca! We stopped by for lunch on Saturday and had a great experience. We started with empanadas which were really good. I could've easily ate more than one but was glad to save room for my main entree, arroz con pollo with tostones (can also get maduros instead). My husband ordered bandeja paisa. My arroz con pollo was tasty and a hearty portion. I'm a sucker for Colombian aji picante and there was some on the table that I lathered on everything. Even asked for some to go for my leftovers! The tostones were the size of my face and among the best I've had in quite some time. My husband devoured his bandeja paisa and was nice enough to give me some of the chicharron along the way which was so good. To sip, I opted for lulu juice blended with water and he got Pony Malta. Service was super attentive. For a very solid meal it came out to around $40 including tip. Definitely worth it! The interior takes you away from the streets of Doral and feels like something you'd find in Colombia. There's a stage which I can only assume means they have live music sometimes. This afternoon they had soccer projecting onto the big screen.

Yelp
I had been told about this place by a relative and was dying to go. I finally did a couple of days ago. I recommend .Delicious food at reasonable price

Monica V.

Yelp
Some of the best authentic dishes in town. I love coming here whenever I'm in Miami. And the live entertainment always keeps me staying longer than intended. Gracias Flaca

Bob B.

Yelp
Food was great. Location is a hidden gem. Saw 4.7 stars so decided to go. Had Bandeja paisa w steak. And Empanadas for app. Can't go wrong

Montero M.

Yelp
during my most recent visits to el Porton de la flaca I have been served raw under cooked fish and meat. The last time I was here I ordered the breaded fish and unfortunately it was raw and still frozen (even thought it was served breaded) The visit before this one my partner was served undercooked raw bloody carne asada with his calentado. Very disappointing, perhaps they have changed chefs. From now on I will stick to the empanadas, palitos de queso and arepas. (Which are all very good) As most of their menu items are but I don't trust this place to order proteins anymore.

Norma L.

Yelp
This is a hole in the wall restaurant. Very nice and cozy. I came to this restaurant with my sister since we were shopping at the mall. Our waitress was very nice and friendly. Very attentive to our needs. The food and the price was very affordable. They served us very big and delicious plates. I'm glad I came to this restaurant and not the Cheesecake Factory.

Naty T.

Yelp
I was a little torn on the stars I wanted to give this restaurant. I've been on a Colombian food haul lately and decided to give this place a chance. I wanted something different so we ordered the arroz con pollo to change it up and our usual bandeja paisa. I'll start with arroz con pollo, not a fan. It has a taste like it was cooked with ketchup. There's even red specs in it like ketchup..I did not enjoy it at all. Not sure if this is how it's typically cooked so I didn't want to be too critical. The bandeja paisa was good. The carne asada and chicharrón were awesome. Great flavor. We ended up sharing la bandeja paisa instead of me having the arroz con pollo. We also had the beef empanadas, combine that with their pique and it's a hit. Really good. I would never order the arroz con pollo again but everything else was great.

Margarita R.

Yelp
I recently visited Miami and my cousin recommended. me this restaurant great service and the food was amazing...

Daniela A.

Yelp

Andy M.

Yelp
Nice little secluded Colombian restaurant. Great authentic food and feel. Forget the large commercial restaurants and go here instead. I've been here twice in 2 months and the food is excellent and prices are reasonable.

Gigi A.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I wanted to get our Colombian fix and decided to try this place. I ordered the bandeja pasia which was phenomenal and cooked to perfection. The empanadas were delicious! Everything is home cooked and I truly felt like i was eating at my families home which is the best feeling. The service is amazing very attentive and super sweet. The place is off the beaten path so when you arrive in the parking lot it's on the left hand side. Look for the suite letter B. They place live music and have dancing on the weekends. This place was truly amazing.

Joa F.

Yelp
The definition of a whole in the wall!! I love this place so homey, I literally feel like I am eating at home meals, the people are so nice and the service is fast! I give it 10000 times 5 stars!

Paula S.

Yelp
I've been to El Porton de la Flaca a couple of times and have had different experiences. I can say the bandeja paisa and any dish with a carne asada is very good but the two times I've ordered the grilled fish I've been highly disappointed. I'm not sure if it's the quality of the fish or if it's just not cooked for long enough, but I will never be getting the fish there again. The staff is very pleasant and the establishment is very typical for a Colombian restaurant.

David D.

Yelp
If you are looking for a nice and cozy place to have good authentic Colombian food, than this is the place. We've been coming here for year. Our entire family love this place. Staff and restaurant owner are very friendly and know hospitality and customer service. Food and prices are amazing! You just want to keep eating :) If it is your first time going, I recommend you trying the bandeja paisa with carne asada. Has a little of everything to try in the plate.

Mallory A.

Yelp
AMAZING! If you're looking for great typical Colombian food this is it! I had the bandeja paisa which was perfect, everything on that plate was flavorful and worth coming back for. Their empanadas are some of the best I've had in a very long time and their natural juices are so good and refreshing! The service makes you feel right at home. I will definitely be returning.

Ed R.

Yelp
Like the food . Good mixture and prices are still reasonable. Servers are nice !!! Ambience mix crowd but friendly .

Blake Z.

Yelp
Visiting my pals around the area again in Miami and you know I'm back for another tasty Columbian meal. Starting out with pros, I ordered my favorite Columbian dish - the Bandeja Paisa which was priced as $15 and not $14 from online (no issue here). The size of my order was large as I was expecting, but the steak however was surprisingly bigger and much tender than other steaks when I've ordered this dish. Also, this plate came with a fresh tostone instead of the arepa (this was highly delicious!). As with cons - I felt that I was not pleased with the seating as the tables were spaced apart, but felt there was limited space to sit. Also, I felt that it was challenging to place orders as the waitresses had a hard time understanding any bit of English I spoke. So if you come here, make sure you know EXACTLY what you want. To conclude, the food was indeed very tasty, but I think the service and restaurant space could use some improvement!

Michelle C.

Yelp
I live in WA and came to Miami for a couple of days before we take our cruise. I was looking to some homemade Colombian food. I was recommended a different restaurant and I'm so glad I came to El Porton de la Flaca. It was delicious and authentic Colombian food. I highly recommend. What I appreciated the most was that when we were leaving the restaurant, I'm going to assume it was the owner of the restaurant. She put her window down and asked if we were taken care of and if my son had received Bon Bon Bum (Colombian Lolipop) Amazing service!

Manuel S.

Yelp
This small Colombian restaurant is quite the place to try real Colombian food. The outside may fool you it's not the nicest restaurant but it makes up for it in food. The inside is pretty vintage it better describe as a small village style , staff are really friendly plus theirs free wi-fi inside. I had the Bandeja Paisa- this is a very popular meal in Colombian cuisine . The plate includes pinto beans, white rice with a sunny side up egg on top , avocado and chicharrón ( pork skin). Extremely filling and high on calories but who's looking at the calories any ways?! Overall good meals , not the nicest restaurant as in style / design but great places for a nice dinner!

Bernadette T.

Yelp
A hole in the wall but the food was amazing and freshly cooked and prepared! Great service and friendly atmosphere!

Martha G.

Yelp
Great Colombian home cooking. Very Authentic. Always good service.

Evelyn B.

Yelp
I was around the area. And was not sure on what to eat. This place had great reviews here on yelp. I decided to give it a try since I love colombian food(well any I love to eat) I tried their beef empanadas and also bought cafe con leche which by the way was so delicious. The beef empanadas wow they were so fresh and tasted so good. This is my second time coming back to get more beef empanadas and decided to get the special of the day which is any soup, rice, salad, sweet plantains and tostones(fried green plantains) The soup was sopa de mondongo(diced tripe) was a little salty but definitely had the right flavor. Why the 3 stars just because the owner she is not really that welcoming, the two times that I have gone she's been very standoffish, she even was annoyed because I was taking pictures of my food that I had already paid for. She asked me when I was opening the bag if there was a problem and I said no I just want to take pictures. But there is a waitress named Lucia really really nice, both of the times I have gone she has been very friendly and asks if I have been helped. I have to say I loved loved loved their beef empanadas and cafe con leche, I will definitely be coming back but I will send my husband or son to pick up our order :)

Dianne M.

Yelp
Bandeja Paisa. I had mine with a wonderfully flavored ground beef. It came with rice covered with a fried egg, red beans, fried pork (chicharrón), sweet plantains, a corn cake and avocado. All this for $14! The passion fruit juice with water was mostly juice and exquisite. I am glad that I didn't order an appetizer of the empanada but would love to try them on my next trip.

Lina M.

Yelp
Best Colombian food I've ever had! If you're not sure what to order, try the bandeja paisa Great food and great service, can't wait to be back in town to try it again!!

Veronica L.

Yelp
My husband is Colombian so we were looking for a new place near Doral and let me tell you finding this place is like hitting a Jack Pot! My husband said "It feels like home" We asked for natural juices and fore $3 each you can obtain a delicious juice. The plates are big enough to share, we asked for pollo a la plancha and it came with tostones, salad, avocado and rice! You should try this place!

Katherine D.

Yelp
Authentic and delicious. Super good for a quick lunch during the work week or to go with your family during the weekend. The bandeja paisa is delicious with carne molida - it tasted fresh and the seasoning was like home. Call before going if you're looking for a specific dish like mondongo, sometimes they run out.

Alfredo C.

Yelp
Excellent recipes, great attention and very kind lady that you will feel very special

Nicole R.

Yelp
The most authentic Colombian restaurant in Miami! Service was fast and pricing is great for the delicious meals. Highly recommend! I got the bandeja paisa and the empanadas as an appetizer and both left me speechless. Will definitely be returning with family and friends!

Nelson R.

Yelp
Pretty good classic Colombian Food! Very nice service and fast. We order a large sangria and was ok, bandeja paisa was delicious, carne asada, sancocho and mondongo. Prices very affordable. My mother in law ordered arroz con pollo and was very good. Steak here is very good, sides are flavorful.
