El Sazon Oaxaqueno is a very unassuming, hole-in-the-wall restaurant in a small shopping mall next to nothing.
We originally came to the bakery several years ago - they have really good bread.
The desire for the bread led to the desire for their tortas.
The desire for their tortas led to the desire for their dinner entrees.
The Camarones al Mojo de Alo is shrimps cooked in butter and garlic with the shells still on (more flavor) and served with beans, rice, and salad.
The Camarones a la Diabla is also pretty good - nice spice and flavor.
At the time of this review, both of these menu items were $10 each, which for this price, the food here is exceptional!
Wait staff is nice and friendly.
The main thing about El Sazon Oaxqueno is that the food tastes very homemade. The beans still have whole beans in them, which signals to me that they haven't been sitting in a pot for a long time (because then the beans would be more broken down). The rice has a nice glisten of oil on it, just like mom makes. And the salad is typical lettuce, onion, tomato, and avocado with a slice of lime, which I incorporate into the small tacos I make with their tortillas that taste like the kind you get at the store.
This is not the best Oaxacan food in the area, but the food here is very good for the price you pay, and it is food that we typically return to over the years. And for these reasons, I give El Sazon Oaxaqueno four stars.
