The 12 Best Pools for Cocktails in Houston

"Experience one of the city’s biggest and most colorful summer parties at this see-and-be-seen adult private swim club. Pool-goers can choose between its sprawling main pool or splash around in its smaller cocktail-depth pool, all the while enjoying pitchers of Palomas, glasses of champagne, canned beers, or cooling summer cocktails. A rotating selection of food trucks on-site provides pool-approved fare, and live DJs set the mood every weekend. Visitors can also leave at least some of their worries at home — Day passes to Segundo cost between $20 and $35 and provide complimentary parking, sunscreen, and towel service." - Brittany Britto Garley

El Segundo Swim Club Makes a Splashy Return - Eater Houston

"As the spring season begins to heat up and Houston’s dog days of summer inch nearer, locals are already looking for ways to beat the heat. Thankfully, El Segundo Swim Club, the city’s only private outdoor swim club and bar, located at 5180 Avenue L in Second Ward, is days away from reopening for this year’s swim season. On Saturday, April 29, the 15,000-square-foot oasis, which features a full-service bar and a 1,350-square-foot cocktail-depth pool, will once again welcome in guests for fun in the sun. Designed by Gin Design Group, El Segundo Swim Club boasts a fully outdoor space that combines industrial elements and colorful murals with lush landscaping, creating a welcome escape from the hustle and bustle of the city’s urban core. Reserved for the 21-and-up crowd, guests can purchase day passes, starting at $20 per person, to gain access to the lively space from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturdays and noon to 7 p.m. on Sundays. The fee covers complimentary towel and sunscreen service, plus access to changing rooms, lounge chairs, and hammocks. Private cabanas for larger groups are also available to reserve in advance. As it has in years past, El Segundo Swim Club offers appropriate provisions for lounging poolside. The club’s beverage program was built by hospitality vet Chris Frankel and features a number of mixed-drink carafes, frosty pitchers, summer cocktails, canned beers, and a collection of independent grower champagnes, while a rotating crop of food trucks park onsite giving guests even more options. As part of the club’s 2023 programming, Sunday day passes will give guests access to complimentary yoga classes, which are offered at 11 a.m. weekly, and Sound Waves, a new live DJ series that will showcase 90- and 120-minute sets from national talent on select Sundays. The series kicks off on Sunday, May 7 with the Faint, and will continue throughout the spring and summer seasons, with the roster of guest DJs including Washed Out, Neon Indian, Ed Droste of Grizzly Bear, Twin Shadow, Them Jeans, Disko Cowboy, and Fat Tony. Houstonians need not wait to fill in their calendar with upcoming pool days — day passes for El Segundo Swim Club are available for purchase now via the company’s website and on Tock." - Megha McSwain

Drink Cocktails By a Pool at El Segundo Swim Club, Houston’s Newest Pool Bar - Eater Houston

"El Segundo Swim Club, billed as Houston’s only private outdoor swim club and bar, starts pouring paloma pitchers poolside on Friday, August 30. The airy adult-only oasis first emerged in the Second Ward last summer, but only as a pop-up over two weekends, according to a rep for the bar. Now the urban respite is fully finished, decked out with a bohemian-meets-industrial chic design by Gin Design Group. Hip Coachella vibes are aplenty at the orange umbrella-lined pool, filled with hammocks, swaying palms, and shipping containers-turned-cabanas splashed with retro surfboard prints. The pool was late to the party this summer due to construction and permitting delays of its full buildout. The beverage menu, curated by master Houston mixologist Chris Frankel, features a flurry of fruity elixirs and pitchers for five, on-trend White Claw, and canned beers and wines like potent Babe rose. A 'by the book' section includes short summer reads for $15." - Tierney Plumb

Google
Awesome pool day club! We went on a chill Wednesday and had a great time. Joshua the door/security guy made a great positive impression on us! Someone bring him an energy drink next time they come! Beers are reasonably priced, mixed drinks typical for type of place. Lots of chairs and umbrellas and hammocks! Definitely recommend.

Google
Thanks for hosting the Houston Book and Sip Club!! El Segundo is perfect for parties, with music, drinks, and food. It’s also super cute!

The whole pool and drinks is a vibe. This is our second time here. The drinks are good. And the venue is great. The DJ on the other hand sucks. Look around dude, not a single person vibing to your music…maybe switch it up? Before he got here there was people dancing and having a great time.

Google
Really enjoyed the experience! Would definitely go back; however, I think cover is a bit high for what you get considering the location and overall quality of the space. If there was a live DJ it would have been a different story. I went for Sunday Funday and figured it would be a bit more ambient. Great drinks, friendly and fun employees, and really great business concept! 10/10 would go back with the hope to change my rating from 4 to 5 stars.

Yelp
The vibes were cool but it was a pretty small pool with minimal coverage from the sun. Sure, there were umbrellas and cabanas, but they were located on the side, not directly shading the pool. The lack of trees also meant little shade while in the water, which can be brutal in Houston. It was honestly a bit pricey for me, so I don't think I'll ever be returning. There really wasn't anything special about the place. There was a DJ who seemed to be playing a bunch of 2000s music, which was nice as it was a very millennial crowd when we were there. Tip: don't plan on bringing any floaties because there's literally not enough space for them. There were 2 giant ones that we think were owned by the pool, but they kept getting in the way and were eventually thrown out of the pool.

Yelp
Had a sweet Sunday Funday at this swim club that I saw on Instagram and was so excited to try out! This place is literally a Houston duck-off and I had no idea this was here. $20 gets you access. The pool is not huge but perfect to chat with friends in and it's a small, more quaint atmosphere with a dj and lounge chairs. They also have umbrellas and more secluded sections available for private parties and rentals. My true rating is a 4.5 and that is only because I wish they offered towels, there weren't enough umbrellas and the bathrooms could use a good scrub! The drinks were awesome but a little pricey but that's Houston for you. We had a pitcher of the Paloma and it was so yummy. Super hot day so they have a water dispenser for you at no charge to stay hydrated .You can bring you own cup but it must be empty and you are allowed to bring snacks. Bring your own towel! We absolutely stayed for several hours and had a great time! The first DJ was playing more indie vibes which wasn't our style but the second DJ was awesome and gave us a little bit more upbeat house sounds mixed with Drake and Beyoncé and such but nothing crazy so don't expect a major turn up. Definitely a great, chill spot for the crew to hang out. I was feeling like I was not in Houston if that makes sense; maybe a Vegas pool party? Without the twerking! Thank goodness. I would absolutely return. This is adults only, so no kids! Enjoy

Yelp
This spot is cool -- it serves its purpose as a space to cool down and hang with friends. They have cool djs and music playing, a bar inside, and food truck for food. Service is fine, when you arrive you show your ticket to the door guy and find a spot. All general admission seating is first come first serve and there isn't much shade. We rented a cabana -- I really don't recommend this at all. We spent most of our time in the pool but if you want guaranteed shade, cabana are a good choice. The pool is not that big and fills up pretty quick but we made some nice friends and overall had a great time. We'd consider coming back one day.

Yelp
A very fun time although I highly recommend booking a cabana if you can. Drinks were good. There's a taco truck there as well. Employees were very nice although the DJ wasn't the greatest. Overall has a good time. Would go back.

Yelp
Came here for a friend's bday party and I am in love with El Segundo!! Such an awesome concept and the pool is too cute. With cabanas, pool chairs and hammocks too, I love this adults only pool. The team was very friendly and I feel like the price is very reasonable. I also enjoyed that they had a DJ available to play some good music to add to the mood. This is definitely a great spot for some day drinking, dancing and making plenty of memories by the pool during Houston's hottest season. If you want to try something new, give this hidden gem a try! #supportlocalbusiness #eado #Barriolove Bianca

Yelp
The perfect weekend swim hangout spot! The cocktails & mocktails were amazing, the food truck was a BANGER! Some of the best pastor tacos in my life. Cabana was very affordable especially split between friends! The normal music they played was great and then when DJs showed up it elevated it even more. All the staff was so nice and so helpful! Would recommend this 100x over and over again!

Yelp
Very relaxed mood, very vibrant and positive crowd. Sunshine and shade as needed. The water temp was lovely they have a wide variety of beverages and food exceeded expectations. They have fun floaters and private areas you can rent out. They have corn hole on the lawn, showers, towels, and hammocks! The DJ kept it mild and upbeat not crazy chaos - very good energy! The staff are all friendly and in a good mood!

Yelp
Came here with a small group looking to experience something new and escape the Houston heat! This is a pretty sweet adult only pool, lots of lounge chairs, pool is pretty large and you can order drinks or purchase food from food trucks. One recommendation is to get there early for the best lounger and to secure a good spot in the pool! Otherwise enjoy the vibes, great music and chill atmosphere!

Tyra S.

Yelp
Worst experience ever! We got there and was greeted by a gentleman by the name of Kel, he was very aggressive, trying to assert his dominance and power telling us not to kill the vibe. Which he is the one who killed the vibes. We mistakenly brought in outside alcohol, he saw and instead of just warning us about not having outside food or drinks which we would have completely understood and apologized, he decided to cuss us out and threatened to throw us out. He picked with us the entire time and even harassed part of our group that showed up late that had nothing to do with the situation cussed her out and was also aggressive with her. He made our experience very unenjoyable. The pool, scenery and drinks was great I love the ambiance but I will not be returning due to the front door guy Kel. Very unprofessional and he gives this beautiful place a bad look. We were wrong but we took accountability for our actions and we feel like the situation could have been handled differently. Beware of Kel!

Yelp
Had a nice time! Friendly environment and great staff! The atmosphere was dope and the DJ was pretty good as well! A well hidden gem in Houston!

Yelp
Summer is officially coming to an end in exactly two weeks, but that doesn't mean you still can't soak up the sun and take a dip in the pool. It looks like El Segundo Swim Club has their reservations open until the first weekend of October. That's only four more weekends to take advantage of getting sun-kissed at the swim club! Who's ready to jump in with me? ;) For a Day Pass ($30), the amenities include: -Towel & sunscreen service (complimentary) -Full bar service -Pool chairs and hammocks -Occasional food truck (during their peak hours) When I visited on a Saturday afternoon, there were plenty of open pool chairs and hammocks and it was on a "first come, first serve" basis. There was a dope DJ spinnin' and there was hardly a line at the bar. No food truck was onsite, so I would call first to see if there will be one in case you're hungry. Cheers and farewell to summer!

Yelp
Welcome to the barrio, El Segundo! If you're not aware of all things hot, cool and trending, it's all about the East End - and El Segundo is the East End's newest addition. El Segundo is a private swimming pool club - not the "dance club" kind of vibe at all, but more of a club in the sense that you pay a $20 admission fee (includes towel service) and have all day access to the pool and it's growing amenities. Right now, the amenities includes a bar, restrooms, occasional DJ, lounge chairs, floats, reserved seating in shipping containers. In the coming weeks they'll have food trucks, lockers, showers, etc. Design was done by Gin Braverman (designed Axelrad, parts of WOMH) and the place is dope! Been there twice, and I'm a fan.

Yelp
Super fun environment. Big enough so everyone has space to enjoy themselves and relax or be lively. The staff is very accommodating and friendly. The pool is never freezing, even after 5 days of rain so it must be heated or something, but the water isn't hot, it's perfect. My only suggestion is to def bring flip flops Bc the walkway surrounding the pool and to the restroom is burning hot. Idk who or why the steps chosen were used but they hold heat and you can not walk to the restroom without causing lasting pain to your feet without shoes.

Yelp
I really hope these guys have it figured out this time because they're on to something good. This place didn't have the grown and sexy vibes I was hoping for but it is definitely something fun to do on a hot summer day/night. The music is nice, everyone is there to relax and you truly feel transported away from the big city! I hope they figure out the bar situation though. It seems unorganized with a lot of potential for creativity. The bartender lacked personality which seems important for a place like this especially. The novelty alone will keep me coming back and recommending to all of my friends.

Yelp
El Segundo's soft opening was very promising! The swim club is located off Navigation Blvd in the East End of Houston. It's about a 10-minute drive from Downtown. I love that it's located deeper in the neighborhood -- it's less likely to become a cesspool being farther from the bar scene. The property is surrounded by a corrugated metal fence. The lawn area was still under construction, hopefully there will be a sand volleyball court or hammock yard once complete. The pool is 5 ft deep, with wade areas on both long sides. There are two container "cabanas" with bean bag seating, as well as lounge chairs, umbrellas and small tables along the perimeter of the pool. Towels are available free of charge. Once fully complete, I'm certain the establishment will be a hit in Houston. It's already well executed. The service was fast, efficient and friendly. Presently, they only offer drinks (full bar), but an employee mentioned a kitchen being added soon. Season passes/memberships will be offered in the future. Check their website/social media for updates on that. As for right now, day passes are $20/person. My pool-crashing days are behind me thanks to this dope spot!

Yelp
Bring on the Bikinis! El Segundo Swim Club is the newest addition to the ever expanding East End. For $20, you get a pool, a towel, and a load of fun. We came here two weekends in a row! There are plentiful lounge chairs for seating, and helpful bartenders to assist you in ordering some refreshing drinks. There's definitely an industrial feel to the swim club especially because the cabanas are shipping containers, and can be yours for the whole day for $750. Now onto to drinks, they have your general favorite beers, Dos XX, Lone Star, Tecate and a few local hits like 8th Wonder Dome Fauxm and Saint Arnold Lawnmower. Although for my friends who are the cocktail drinkers, I recommend the Miraflores ($18 for a small pitcher 2 servings or $36 for large pitcher 3 to 5 servings.) This glorious cocktail features Gin, Pimms, Watermelon, and Lime and our group probably ordered 10 of them because not only was it incredibly delicious, refreshing, and tasty, we were getting the party started! The other cocktails they have by the Pitcher is the Amor Prohibdo (Vodka, Lemon, Raspberry and Cocunut Water) and the Paloma (Blanco Tequila, Lime, Graperfruit and Squirt). The Amor Prohido, if ordered will need an extra shot because it does come out a little sweet. The club is still expanding and plan to have a full kitchen, more lounge chairs, umbrellas, and an installed restroom. Currently it is a mobile restroom FYI. I definitely can't wait to see what the final outcome will be. The DJ came in the afternoon about 3:30pm and played some old school hits like Blackstreet, TLC, and Mariah Carey, which we all sang and danced along too. He even was so gracious to take our request to play "In My Feelings" so we could attempt the challenge. The vibes here are feel good and the staff is impeccably helpful and kind. In this city, we know how incredibly hot and humid it can get, so why not cool off a lux pool with your best pals. Shoot, I may even see you there!

Yelp
Booooo ! Showed up and with NO reason, the pool was CLOSED on a SUNDAY. Looked @ FB & Insta - no news there. This place is too good to be true!

Yelp
Ahh a swim club. In Houston? We need this. I came to El Segundo last week. It is a cute swim club in SECOND WARD (let's stop renaming sides of town because gentrification)...i digress. A nice setup that's needed for this unnecessarily hot summer. For $20 fee you have all day access or you can pay $100 for a season pass with unlimited access when ever they're open. They're still finishing up the construction so there are some amenities that aren't available yet, they're building a restroom, locker room, kitchen (if I'm correct might be wrong about the kitchen part so don't quote me ok). I know i found out food trucks will be able to park here. They have a bar, offer bottles of wine, champagne, and mixed drink carafes and pitchers. Right now you can bring in snacks and they provide shaded and unshaded sitting areas, private area made from old storage units that were redesigned (it's super cute AND super hot in it) you can reserve (for a fee). El segundo is still being constructed only down side i found was the parking, it's horrible but i have hope they'll get that together too but once it's complete it'll be a great spot. i just hope it doesn't become a huge ol douche magnet like most cool places in Houston that get discovered. I'll definitely be back, had a great time!
google avatar

Rebecca A.

Yelp
This place is so cool and chill. The pool water is refreshing and they offer towels. The DJ played some good songs. I'd definitely come back here on a hot day to lay out. I love how they used shipping containers to decorate too

Lynn M.

Yelp
It's a cool place. The pool is a bit small and they could use more umbrellas for shade. I think they need to increase their drink selections.
google avatar

Oliver B.

Yelp
So far so good. I have been three times thus far. I just hope this place does not become douche central like so many other places in HTX. Staff seem to be friendly. The only complaint I have are the weak drinks. My advice...stick to beer should you decide to take a dip in the pool. Food is okay to bring in. No kids allowed which makes this place that much more amazing. You can rent out the container cabanas, but they seem to be extra hot as no fans are present, and the cross wind do not enter as much. I hope they add more seating/chairs, umbrellas as I noticed they will continue to allow patrons in when all spaces are taken. You can also vape as you take in the sun or lay under the umbrella. Overall, GREAT PLACE without the ATTITUDE thus far. Congrats Matt!

Rachelle B.

Yelp
I had stumbled upon this swim club online after looking for something fun to do with a friend in town. We had wanted to do the Marriott Marquis day pass but those prices are outrageous - that's when I found El Segundo. And I am so happy I did! As soon as we entered, they were so welcoming and kept up with CDC guidelines through these Covid times. Chairs were spaced out and they only allowed a certain amount of people in during two sections (11a-3p and 3p-7p). Highly recommend purchasing your passes as soon as possible! It was so well built, so well set up - lounge chairs for everyone, towels for everyone, nice bathroom set up and even hammocks in the back. The pool was clean and easily accessible. The drinks were PHENOMENAL. Lots of choices of pitchers. Good music. They had a taco stand come in around 3pm so they allowed you to bring your own food in before that as well as water which was great and extremely nice of them. Every single employee was kind, helpful and welcoming. I asked about memberships as I would love to become a member there. This is such a great place for the Houston area!
google avatar

Ava W.

Yelp
Super cool and relaxing!.. I enjoyed my time at this swim club!.. kinda gives you Vegas vibes but super unpretentious!.. I can't wait until they get some good trucks.. I can't wait to make another visit so I can snag a cabana that are refinished shipping containers... P.S. whoever the DJ is keep him!.. he had the whole pool rocking

Daniel F.

Yelp
Awesome space! Fantastic concept and execution! Solid DJ spinning the entire time. So glad Houston is stepping up with a venue like this. It is the vibe of a beach resort in the heart of the city.
google avatar

Brandi E.

Yelp
This place has Soo much potential I can't stand it! The pool is 100% designed for a chill pool day in the sun with your best crew. I especially liked that there was a surplus of seating, free towels, a DJ and wait staff. Considering there wasn't food service and a/c room to take a break from the TX geat or more amenities, I thought the entry fee of $20 was a bit much. The concept is great though if you don't have a pool, live in a place that doesnt have a nice pool or have to worry about noise complaints. Can't wait to see how this place develops.

Denise D.

Yelp
The pool is open! Awesome drinks, vibes, and cool music. It's the only place like it in Houston. It's a really nice tropical oasis in the middle of an industrial setting.
google avatar

Bianca L.

Yelp
absolutely loved it. wish it stayed open longer. pool depth is not accurate, I'm 5'1 and 3 feet 4 inch water shouldn't be to my chin. Is my whole head a foot?! Personally tho k the cabanas prices are over the top but 20$ all day access.

Rae B.

Yelp
I thought it was REALLY COOL the DJ was a Female. DjMermae was so sweet. She set the atmosphere just right and made my whole crew feel super welcomed. I hope to see her again. We are going to go back very soon.
