"Everything about Space Cowboy Pool Bar is made to let loose and have a good time, including the frozen cocktails that taste like they’re 70% Skittles. Bring your brightest bathing suit and your best fist pump to tear up the outdoor dance floor during the resident DJ’s EDM set." - julie takahashi, chelsea thomas, gianni greene, gianni greene, chelsea thomas, gianni greene, chelsea thomas, gianni greene, chelsea thomas, gianni greene, chelsea thomas, gianni greene, gianni greene, chelsea thomas, chelsea thomas, chelsea thomas, gianni greene, gianni greene
"Experience one of the city’s biggest and most colorful summer parties at this see-and-be-seen adult private swim club. Pool-goers can choose between its sprawling main pool or splash around in its smaller cocktail-depth pool, all the while enjoying pitchers of Palomas, glasses of champagne, canned beers, or cooling summer cocktails. A rotating selection of food trucks on-site provides pool-approved fare, and live DJs set the mood every weekend. Visitors can also leave at least some of their worries at home — Day passes to Segundo cost between $20 and $35 and provide complimentary parking, sunscreen, and towel service." - Brittany Britto Garley

"Located at 5180 Avenue L in Second Ward, the city's only private outdoor swim club and bar reopens on Saturday, April 29 as a 15,000-square-foot oasis: El Segundo Swim Club features a full-service bar and a 1,350-square-foot cocktail-depth pool and was designed by Gin Design Group as a fully outdoor space that blends industrial elements and colorful murals with lush landscaping. I note that it's reserved for a 21-and-up crowd and offers day passes starting at $20 that grant access (Saturdays 11 a.m.–7 p.m.; Sundays noon–7 p.m.) to complimentary towel and sunscreen service, changing rooms, lounge chairs, hammocks, and private cabanas for larger groups. The beverage program, built by hospitality vet Chris Frankel, includes mixed-drink carafes, frosty pitchers, summer cocktails, canned beers, and a selection of independent grower champagnes, while a rotating crop of food trucks parks onsite. For 2023 programming, Sunday passes include complimentary 11 a.m. yoga and access to Sound Waves, a new live DJ series that kicks off May 7 with The Faint and will feature national talent such as Washed Out, Neon Indian, Ed Droste (of Grizzly Bear), Twin Shadow, Them Jeans, Disko Cowboy, and Fat Tony; day passes are available via the company’s website and on Tock." - Megha McSwain
"Billed as Houston’s only private outdoor swim club and bar, I found an airy, adult-only oasis that first appeared as a pop-up in the Second Ward last summer and is now fully finished at 5180 Avenue L — it starts pouring paloma pitchers poolside on Friday, August 30. The space is decked out in a bohemian-meets-industrial chic design by Gin Design Group, with hip Coachella vibes: an orange umbrella-lined pool, hammocks, swaying palms, and shipping-container cabanas splashed with retro surfboard prints. The pool’s full buildout was delayed by construction and permitting, but the beverage menu — curated by master Houston mixologist Chris Frankel — delivers fruity elixirs, pitchers for five ($35), on-trend White Claw, and canned beers and wines like potent Babe rose; there’s even a “by the book” section with short summer reads for $15. Fare from local food trucks will be available in the coming weeks. For opening day (3 p.m. to sunset) access is free; Saturdays and Sundays the heated pool will stay open through midnight with DJs. The club runs through the summer (late October-ish) with regular hours Friday 3 p.m.–sunset, Saturday 11 a.m.–sunset, and Sunday 12 p.m.–sunset (with plans to expand), and a limited amount of discounted day passes are available online for $20 (regular admission $29)." - Tierney Plumb
"A new poolside bar that’s shaping up to be a summer destination, where guests can sip palomas or vodka-spiked coconut water while people-watching and cooling off in a chilly pool; day passes are available through the venue’s website." - Amy McCarthy
