Craft beer, sandwiches, shareable plates, great drinks

"Davis Square has many things but, uncharacteristic of Somerville, it doesn’t have a brewery. Elm Street Taproom conveniently fills the void by offering an extensive draft list with a diverse selection of local and regional craft beers, some of which — such as Hill Farmstead from Vermont and Mast Landing from Maine — have amassed a cult following. It has a no-frills food menu that covers popular pub fare." - Celina Colby

"I'm glad Taste of Somerville is back at Assembly Row this Thursday (note the date change after recent heavy rain); the al fresco affair turns the spot into a tent-spotted summer soiree where local restaurants, breweries, and wineries team up for tastings and treats. The event features favorite restaurants alongside drink-slingers and dessert vendors, and tickets must be purchased in advance (general admission $57.50, children 15 and under $16.50, VIP $83.50 with separate food tastings and cocktail pairings)." - Nathan Tavares
"Elm Street Tap is one of the better beer bars in Somerville, with a ton of taps pouring almost exclusively New England-based beers. The beer should be the principal reason you go here because the menu, while slightly better than your standard pub burgers and fries, isn’t anything you’ll fall in love with. It’s a nice dark space with wide windows fronting Elm Street, though, and a good place to grab a drink with a couple friends or try to seal the deal after a date. "If you like to drink beer (and you live in Boston, so you probably do) then you need to know about this place. With 40 rotating taps pouring almost exclusively local stuff and just as many bottles and cans, this is one of the best places to get a beer in the neighborhood, especially if you can drink it one of their sidewalk tables on a summer evening." - dan secatore

"Opening January 8 in the former Joshua Tree space at 256 Elm St., I expect Elm Street Taproom—operated by Hawkeye Hospitality—to bring 40 draft lines, a long list of bottled and canned beers, and a comfort-food menu to Davis Square; a press release describes it as “a vibrant, social atmosphere with shareable plates, sandwiches, and communal seating perfect for neighborhood gatherings and large parties.” The kitchen will be open daily from 11:30 a.m. until 11 p.m., with brunch planned for the near future. The menu features items like kung pao duck drumettes, veal meatballs, olive tapenade, a steak tip sandwich, and whipped feta, and the beer list will include local breweries such as Idle Hands, Fiddlehead, and Lord Hobo. The taproom will also run a mug club: drink every beer on draft and every bottle and can (24 total) and receive a personalized 24-ounce mug that will hang above the bar." - Terrence Doyle
