"You could be fooled into thinking Elsie’s Plate & Pie is a longtime staple in Baton Rouge, but you’d be wrong. Despite its old-school (with a touch of hip) feel and homestyle menu, Elsie’s (named after the owner’s grandmother Elsie Marie Campeau Rupe) has only been around about five years, but it’s made a major splash with its sweet and savory pies. For the former, it’s known especially for coconut cream, turtle pie, and skillet apple pie, and when it comes to the latter, a crawfish hand pie, Louisiana poulet pot pie, and boudin hand pie. It also serves comforting soups, specialties like red beans and rice, and excellent sandwiches, and has become popular for brunch." - Clair Lorell

I wanted to try this place because of the good reviews. It's an old school feel with a new school flare. The food was really good & fresh. The red beans & rice is different than the usual you'll taste in Louisiana, but it was still good. The chicken was tender & juicy. The pot pie was good with a good crispy crust, but it was a little too much juice. I feel it should have more filling & less juice. It had good flavor. The worst the dessert nachos! The compo was weird tasting & the breading needed some sugar cinnamon to give it some taste. The ice cream helped, but not much. The turtle pie was ok, but the dark chocolate was bitter. I watched all the food come out & asked others about their food & they all talked about how good their food is. This was our 1st time & we'll be back to try other options, but no desserts. Our server was very nice & the food came out hot & in a timely manner.

This place is a hidden gem! We liked it so much we went back a second time. Seafood Pie is delicious, fried chicken with red beans and rice is amazing! The fried okra app was pretty tasty and the pimento cheese dip drizzled in honey, I've been thinking about it since we left Baton Rouge!

Google
Stellar service, refreshingly creative and outstandingly delicious. I got the perfect mix of savory and sweet with a Natchitoches Three Meat Pie and Apple pie. Our server Leigh was wonderful! Even my picky friend ended up ordering two entrees and a dessert!! The pricing is surprisingly low for such a unique, well crafted menu and experience. 100% coming back!!

Everything was amazing. Super delicious food, good portion sizes. Had one of the best pastry stouts I've ever had in my life. 10/10 would highly recommend. The turtle pecan pie was divine, too.

Google
Very excellent food! Had the crab fingers app, deep fried, but fresh. The seafood pie was excellent! Bubbly hot, Burnt my mouth because I couldn't stop eating!! Only critique, sauce needs to be spicier! Good, but could be better! Side salad fresh. Service was good! Atmosphere, busy at lunch time!! Parking lot ful!! Note - from the main road, the place looks closed, closed down! I did see a "parking in the back" sign and luckily I did. Great find!!

Google
Overly delicious! I know that Elsie’s is newer to Baton Rouge , but this has to be in the top 3 for best spots in town. I had the meat pie - the seafood bisque - and the red beans and rice. This rendition of classic Cajun is the best I have seen and tasted. The meat pies were overflowing with flavor. The red beans and rice - easily the best I’ve ever had. The seafood bisque was just impeccable. It was rated the best spot in Baton Rouge cause it is the best in Baton Rouge. Such a treasure to the community.

All I can say is wow! Hidden gem? Maybe. But when you have a 30-minute wait, I'd say it isn't hidden. Rum don't walk to this restaurant. Service was fantastic. Very nice and super attentive. Food is spectacular. Grilled pimento cheese sandwich? A+ Shrimp poboy? A+++ fresh shrimp fried perfectly falling out... I literally can't wait to go back. If you are in the Baton Rouge area... you HAVE to stop in.

Experienced this awesome place while on vacation and I highly recommend! Had the seafood pot pie and red beans and rice. Amazingly delicious! Friend had the hot crawfish melt! Very tasty! Then dessert was blueberry pie with lemon glaze! So good! Excellent service too! Nice clean restaurant with great vibe!

Yelp
My husband found Elsie's online and we are so happy he did!!! Parking was a little tricky if you don't know where to go. The parking lot is in the back of the restaurant. The people were nice and welcoming. They even told us what some of the popular items were on the menu. The menu had a great variety of items. I definitely have to go back and try more! We started with the pimento cheese with pepper jelly on top. It came with slices of crispy toast covered in herbs. This was one of our favorites. There were two scoops of pimento cheese! My husband had the chicken pesto sandwich which came on toasted bread. No side came with the sandwich but he said he didn't need it because the sandwich filled him up. He really enjoyed it. I had the seafood pot pie (recommended by the waiter). It was ok. The pie had a very strong seafood smell to it. It definitely could have used more seasoning and salt. Now, the crust was the best part, so buttery and flaky! There were lots of pies to choose from. We did the pie sample combo. It came with 4 pies for $20. We had the icebox lemon, chocolate mousse, smores, and blueberry. We also ordered an apple pie. The pies were to go so we haven't tried all of them. I did have to try the blueberry and it is so good! It compared to a toaster strudel only much better. It came with lemon icing to drizzle on top! We will definitely be back with the rest of our family!

Yelp
The selection of seafood in the seafood pot pie was incredible. From one bite, you can taste the Louisiana seafood flavor with fresh shrimp, crawfish, crab meats. They were also really hot when we got our order, so be careful when you eat them! We even got one seafood pot pie to go because it was so tasty! The poulet (chicken) pot pie was good too. I don't enjoy it as much mainly due to the spice, but my friend loved it. The service was quick and the staff were all friendly. The parking and the entrance locate in the back of the restaurant.

Yelp
Went to Elsie's with my family and of course had to wait for our table. While waiting, we struck up a conversation with a man who had eaten there before. When we asked what he thought, he said, "Well, my first time to eat here was yesterday." If that didn't make us ready to try Elsie's, I don't know what would! Anyway, we were seated and truthfully, the food was as near to perfect as we have had in a long time! Chicken and biscuits great. Crustless crab pie and Brussels sprouts really good, and breakfast burger tasty! Drinks were awesome as well! Trust me, this is a phenomenal restaurant. Oh, order the apple pie. They make it for you while you eat your main course. Excellent!

Yelp
A great restaurant for Louisiana, home-style cooking! I came with friends on a Friday right at 5, and we were sat immediately at a table in the back. When you go before dinner rush, there is hardly a wait and plenty of parking right behind the building (I will probably always come early form here on out to Elsie's!). It was happy hour, and there are specials with the signature cocktails... half off! I got the raspberry lemon martini, and it was delicious. For food, we got the boudin cakes and the pimento cheese. I wasnt a huge fan of the boudin cakes, but the pimento was very good and had a spice kick to it. We got lots of food! I got the fried chicken with red beans and rice. The fried chicken, I asked for another plate (can't stand when my food touches), was perfect. The red beans and rice could have had more flavor and was kinda cold. My friends got burgers, which came with no fries by the way and our waiter didn't tell us that, seafoood pie, steak, and a patty melt. Everything was really good! Of course we had to get dessert, so we each got a pie and took a bite it of every one. We got the s'mores, coconut cream, peanut butter, turtle, and pecan, and raspberry. They were all delicious but our favorites were the peanut butter and raspberry. Those came in actual slices while the others came as little individual pies. I liked the slices better. Overall, a great spot for some good food and variety of Louisiana favorites.

Yelp
I was really excited to try Elsie's on my first visit to Louisiana, but was sadly disappointed by this first visit. Upon arrival my coworker and I were promptly greeted and given a table. Our server was also the bartender but was very attentive and friendly. The restaurant itself was very modern, trendy with a vibe I can describe as no other than gentrified lol. Which is not all bad, as a black woman coming to Louisiana for the first time I had no idea what kind of energy to expect, so this was a welcome neutral experience familiar to many of the newly gentrified towns and cities around the country. However it was also a slight let down in wanting to experience an authentic Louisiana experience. Not only was the atmosphere gentrified but the flavor was as well. I had my mind made up on the Seafood Potpie before even landing in LA. When it arrived to the table, accompanied by a side salad with a "pepper" jelly, it was cold in the middle. Not too much of a problem but unfortunately both my coworker and I had to send back our food to cook longer. The salad was nice but I was struggling to find the pepper in the "pepper jelly". When our food returned it was still just warm enough to eat, but at this point I had intentionally worked up an appetite in anticipation for this trip and was ready to eat. The Seafood Potpie came with crawfish, crabmeat and shrimp if I remember correctly baked in a cream sauce with a pastry crust. Everything tasted fine, nothing was wrong or bad but nothing about hit the spot. I didn't come all the way to Louisiana for "ehhh" food. I had also decided to order a drink, my choice was the Cornucopia, one of the seasonal (early fall) drinks. It mentioned cloves and a few other spices I couldn't remember but ended up tasting like a rum and coke. So that too was a let down. Overall I was underwhelmed by my experience at Elsie's Pie Plate. Maybe some of the other dishes are better but I can't say I'd go back to find out. The thought and concept was great but the execution was lacking. Oh and the bathroom was . Don't think I'd go back. Tell the gentrifiers to step their game up

Yelp
So, Elsie's kept popping up every time I search for a place here. Yesterday, I decided to give it a try. Pulled up to the location (parking is behind the restaurant) and it was packed. I thought it would be a long wait but actually I was greeted as soon as I walked in and within less than five minutes I was seated and meet my sever Caldwell. Started with an appetizer of boudin spring rolls with a pineapple Thai jelly sauce. ($10.00). The appetizer was hot and fresh but without the sauce it lacked seasoning and spice. The sauce was wonderful with just enough sweet and spice. Without the accompanying sauce the boudin would not be a regular pick for me. The appetizer is about three large rolls cut in halves so you get 6 full/boudin stuffed pieces. You really can share this appetizer with your table. I also ordered the Seafood Pot Pie ($18.00) and it came with a side salad. The seafood pot pie includes crawfish, shrimp and crab in a roasted red pepper cream, baked with a flaky crust and is beyond delicious. Take my word, if you can eat seafood, this is a must and worth every penny. It is a good size serving and I could not finish it in one setting. You can actually share it. Because it was still brunch hours () I tried the house-infused blackberry tequila, pineapple, agave, topped with Prosecco also known as a Blackberry Sunrise. ($11.00) It was not a favorite as it tasted like a watered beer. The overall appearance was pretty but it was full of ice and I honestly think someone forgot to bring it out earlier to me and remembered because it was so watered. I did not enjoy the drink nor did I finish it, but maybe it would have tasted more pleasurable if received earlier and minus all the ice. The overall atmosphere is really chill with a boho carefree vibe which I love. You can leave the worries in the vehicle and just relax and enjoy your food. I will come again and try more items because I didn't have room for dessert because the seafood pot pie was so filling and in a good way!

Yelp
Who doesn't love pies? Honestly, there needs to be way more pot pie places everywhere. It's the ultimate comfort food. This place is extremely cute. You enter from the back parking lot and it looks like a very hip bistro in an old building. But come as you are. It's very casual. The smokey 3 cheese pimento appetizer sounds ridiculously decadent, and it was good but not amazing. It comes with toasted bread. Honestly, I thought the pimento could have been more flavorful. I didn't get any smoky (or "smokey") flavor and I've had better pimento. The seafood pot pie is absolutely fantastic. Do not look any further on the menu. It is pure seafood perfection. The crawfish hand pie is good but could be a little better. You actually get two hand pies and they are very filling. In my humble opinion, if it was a pot pie, it would be better because you would get more of that delicious filling and less crust. The crust is great but the filling is better. They have very nice mocktails (you need to ask about them) and outrageously good cocktails. The pepper jelly mule sort of sounds awful but it is fantastic. It's sweet and spicy and I could have had five of them. The blackberry margarita is very strong and delicious. The little dinner salads that come with your pies are very nice. The ingredients are super fresh and it's nice to eat something healthy and light before you dig into the belly bomb pot pies. The desserts look incredible here and they offer many of them. We tried the turtle pie and it's got chocolate, caramel, pecans, whipped cream, and an amazing graham cracker crust. It's a glutton's delight. Service was terrific. Our server gave great recommendations and was very attentive. Not everything was perfection but overall, the food and service are extremely good. I would happily return many times to try out different items on their menu. That's the mark of a great place.

Yelp
Restaurant is located on the corner of a neighborhood street with parking that can be confusing that's not located on the main street but in back of the restaurant whereby it appeared closed at night. Once inside, I received acceptable service with ample seating in the small establishment. I ordered the seafood pot pie based on rave reviews, served in a small cast-iron skillet the presentation was exceptional, unfortunately the experience was disappointing, Flaky crust was good although I've had much better, the seafood pot pie was filled with primarily crawfish, some shrimp and a hint of shredded crab meat, although creamy it lacked in flavor. The dish did not come with any French bread, nor do they have a potato salad or gumbo on the menu. Based on this experience, I wouldn't recommend it with better options in the area.

Yelp
While I was on a roadtrip through the area, me and my girlfriend came across Elsie's, and it looked incredible. Luckily, it met our expectations, easily. The staff were quite friendly, the restaurant was nice and comfortable, and the food was unique and delicious. If you find yourself in the area, I highly recommend giving this place a shot. Make sure to save room for dessert!

Yelp
If I could give 10 stars I would! The service was AMAZING!!!! The drinks were Perfect! The food, I don't have a word to describe it but it was more than delicious. This was my first time trying this place (I'm already planning to return tomorrow for the key lime pie. More to come) I had the smoked wings sauce on the side. They were seasoned to perfection. I never had a pot pie and the seafood pot pie was out of this world. Seasoned well and that crust was 5 stars in itself. My friends had the breakfast sandwich and the other had the crawfish queso omelette. I could not believe the pot pie came with a salad. The blackened ranch was so good. Now for the star of the show for me (drum roll please) the key lime pie. Lord it was THE BEST KEY LIME pie I ever had. I plan to go back tomorrow to get a whole pie. It's casual dining. Kid and family friendly. Just good old fashioned eating and I can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Service was great! Loved the atmosphere and the food was great! The pies were amazing, tried the queso and pork skins. Yummy! My son in law can't have gluten so she brought out rice chips, so good! We'll be back!!

Marral Lisa J.

Yelp
Keep coming back to Elsie's - and loving it every time. Their pies are awesome, but I even enjoy their selection of apps, sandwiches and sides! (Not picture but their red bean hummus with rice chips and crawfish queso are clever and so delicious!) Service is great, especially for how busy they tend to be. And the interior is fun and cozy with a rustic chic feel!

Susanna W.

Yelp
This place is everything you imagine a good south Louisiana restaurant should be. Great atmosphere, food was superb, and good service. I had the natchitoches meat pies with red beans and my friend had some sort of salad. We were visiting BR and didn't realize it was restaurant week so it was super busy. But even still, we sat at the bar and our food was delivered in a timely manner and the bartender took great care of us. Will definitely be back next time I'm in town.

Sonika J.

Yelp
We were visiting for our nephew graduation from Southern University and decided to check this place out. From the moment I we arrived we were greeted right away and we were seated right away. Our waitress was phenomenal she suggested what would be good to eat. Our drinks were delicious I ordered a white sangria but they were out of it so I got the red sangria. My entree was the seafood pot pie My mother in law ordered a shrimp platter and they were huge! My mouth literally started watering looking at her food My pie was D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S!!!!! It was so good I didn't realize I was singing "yummy yummy in my tummy" out loud! I thought I was in my head singing. The portions were all plentiful,I needed a carry out box. How bout we all even had the nerve to order dessert. I got mines to go but my people ate theirs right there. Keep in mind we still had to go to meet up with the nephew and his fraternity and friends for dinner celebration.Child!!! I came in apologizing and placed all the blame on Elsie's Plate&Pie. I said if you looking to be mad be mad at Elsie! Listen my whole experience at Elsie's was truly Phenomenal and if I wasn't getting on the road heading back to Tennessee I would have been right back there eating again and yea....singing too

Christie D.

Yelp
Another delicious meal! I ordered my favorite again during this visit the crustless crab pie. As usual, it was fantastic! This time I tried the fried onions as a side and they were excellent. Definitely my new go-to side here. The dipping sauce that accompanied them was so good. Although this place is always busy on the weekends, the service is fast.

Jerrica C.

Yelp
I can't even begin to tell you how much I enjoyed this brunch spot. By far in my top five favorites of all time. My French toast was covered in fresh berries and the grits were on point. Hubby had some sort of stuffed meat pie that I tried stealing. We wanted to eat pie so badly but our bellies were so full. The atmosphere was great and the staff even better. We will return on our next visit to BR.

Sarah T.

Yelp
The service here was absolutely amazing. Our server was very patient with me and my children, and he was happy to answer all of our questions. I came here with my family of 5 and we ordered tomato pie, grits, BBQ burger, avocado sandwich, crawfish pie, red beans and rice, salads, grilled cheese, tomato soup, and fried okra. The surprising star here is the grits. We're used to Texas grits and these grits were amazing with little pieces of corn in it. We all agreed we'd go there again just for the grits! BBQ burgers is a solid burger. Not the best I've ever had but I'd happily order it again and again. My 2 year old got the tomato pie and thoroughly enjoyed it! He ate almost the whole thing as well as trying other people's food too. The other outlier here was the avocado sandwich. My giant preteen ordered it and loved it. When he finished, he even said he wasn't hungry anymore. This place is a solid choice for a meal. There are a couple of small private booths with a really nice atmosphere. I asked to be sat there so my small children wouldn't disturb the other guests (we had been driving all day). The rest of the restaurant is pretty wide open and the table are pretty close to each other.

Erica R.

Yelp
Elsie's came highly recommended from folks who knew I was visiting the area. The space is really cool. They have a lot of seating and a full bar. The parking lot is behind the building. My friend and I were seated right away and the server was very kind. I opted for the lunch special which was a pizza "pie." I also did a side of broccoli. I thought the food was just okay. The "pie" is basically an empanada. The pizza one had honey on it and maybe something else that gave it a sugary taste. I didn't really like it...the brócoli was super mushy but it was well seasoned. All in all, I liked the space and the staff are great but the food was a miss for me but I'm doing 4 stars since I doubt I'll visit again and I may have enjoyed other menu items. And I didn't take any photos!

Krynn L.

Yelp
Super friendly service and AH-amazing food!! We enjoyed the crawfish hand pies with fried onions and a side salad topped with pepper jelly. So YUM!! My hubby had the crawfish melt and a peach cider. For dessert we loved their chocolate cream pie and the blueberry hand pie with LEMON glaze.

Derrick H.

Yelp
Elsies is an excellent restaurant. It's an easy pick to bring people who haven't been to BR. It's won awards. Service is good. Thats all fine and dandy, but we all know the restaurant is great. This review is a plea to get management to keep the Mixed Berry Streussel Pie on the menu. Had this when it was available, and I must say it is my favorite pie I've had at elsies. It is an absolute banger. A well balanced flavor. Sweet, tart, heartinesss from the oats, and the flaky crust. It's just so good. Please keep it on the menu. As if I needed more reasons to come here

Alissa A.

Yelp
Been wanting to try this place for many years, finally did, and I see what i've been missing out on! We came for lunch, had to wait about 30 minutes for a table, but it was worth it! The restaurant is very clean, with an adorable layout, I loved the little nooks of tables! All of the employees were very friendly, and our waitress was so sweet and attentive! We got the Arlington special poboy, chicken and biscuits with corn grits, and an extra side of brussel sprouts. The arlington poboy was very tasty, and the sauce was sweet and tangy with an extra kick of spice to it! The fried chicken was delicious, super crispy, very fresh. The biscuit was very good as well, and my egg was perfectly poached. The Hollendaise sauce was very good too. The corn grits were very similar to Zea's corn grits, not as flavorful but still good. The brussel sprouts were not very crispy, tasted more steamed and then lightly sautéed for just a slight smokey flavorful. The parmesan sauce on them was very flavorful though! Our favorite was definitely the fried chicken, the batter was quite light and had a perfect amount of spice to it, it was very crispy, and the chicken breast was juicy. Not too heavy or greasy. My boyfriend said if he came back he would definitely get the chicken and biscuits. Can't wait to come back here so I can try the fried chicken with red beans! :)

Rory J.

Yelp
Friendly atmosphere. Friendly service. Good happy hour specials. Very reasonable prices. Get there early. Parking is very limited. You have to park around back. The front of the building is very unimpressive. So don't shy away when you first drive up on the place.

Sadie E.

Yelp
Soooo delicious. The Louisiana pot pie had chicken and taso cream sauce that had just the right amount of heat. The chicken that came with the red beans was flavored and cooked to perfection. Service was great and food came out at a decent speed. Pretty popular restaurant so would recommend going before or after typical lunch/dinner times. Parking is horrible right behind the restaurant, would recommend parking in the lot on the side of it and walking over.

Ashlin T.

Yelp
Y'all... RUN TO ELSIE'S. That crawfish omelette & grits.. 100% That turtle pie... *chef's kiss* Service was quick. I will say because I chose to sit at a table as opposed to the bar as a single person, my service felt a tad bit rushed but I get it. It was a Saturday morning just an hour after opening, so I know they wanted me in and out lol. Anyhow, the food was so good!

George T.

Yelp
Cool environment and great food. The pot pie is amazing for any meal including brunch. The entire family enjoyed the savory flavors and wanted to back again!

Gabrielle C.

Yelp
Elsie's is always a good spot for good food. We went on a Saturday night so service was a little slow but to be expected. We found parking at the restaurant but the parking lot is small. Located in the garden district so again, a lot of these things are normal. We ordered and shared everything together. The seafood pot pie was hands down the best thing on the menu!! We ordered a second one lol. The fried okra was good. The chicken wings were really good too! The fried seafood platter was good but kind of a small portion. It came with fish, Shrimp, stuffed shrimp and fries. For dessert we had tried the key lime pie which was very tasty and just enough tart and sweetness. We also tried the blueberry pie which was my favorite. The dough was chefs kiss!

Brittany B.

Yelp
I've been here twice before and the service and food is consistently good. Last night I came with a group of friends. The place is always clean and it's very open. At the front they have a place where you can buy full pies - super exciting. We all shared crawfish queso. Which was really good. I got the seafood pie- super heavy so it's hard to finish but it was really good. Amazing flavor. And didn't lack seafood. My friend and I split an apple pie with ice cream. It was heaven for me. I had a few margaritas which were good but kind of wish they were a little stronger because they serve them in such a short glass. But this place is comfort food all over. Will def be back to eat my feelings away.

Drew S.

Yelp
OMG it was amazing. Not on DDD just Food Network but that's Guy's lose. Seafood pot pie was to die for. A must! Seafood Bisque was perfect and great. Finished (taking half of each) with blueberry hand pie (outstanding) and peanut butter cup pie (special). Way too much food but well worth it!!! We may stop back on way back from NOLA if we can button our pants.

Anna F.

Yelp
Had another nice restaurant week meal at Elsie's! I'm always pleased to try new things with them. The boneless ribs app was DELICIOUS, I only wish there was more! The crab and brie hand pie was tasty and a good idea. It had a little bit too much dessert sauce on top for my liking, which overpowered much of the crab flavor that was already fighting for its place with the brie. My burger lover partner did not love the jalapeno popper burger, which is sad because the boudin burger from Elsie's is his favorite! I however enjoyed my butter chicken pot pie very much. It was huge enough to take home and have for lunch today. The king cake nachos were ok, not as fabulous as the other pie nachos I've had. I loved my king cake pie slice even though it had issues. It was really mostly cream cheese, which is perfect for me because I adore cream cheese filling. The cinnamon toast crunch crust was a great idea but unfortunately, whole pieces of cereal don't keep well, and they were stale and chewy. The flavor was nice but the texture was bad. Maybe if they crunched the pieces up and mixed it with more marshmallow it would make a better crust. The seasonal gin fizz was to die for, I highly recommend it! Even though they don't take reservations, the tables don't take long and the notification system is nice. The servers were friendly and quick. My pet peeve here right now is the utensils. The forks and spoons are walco brand cheap things that feel awful in the hand and remind me of a public school cafeteria. The knives are a better, sturdier brand that I wish they would replace the forks with. I think the best overall restaurant as voted by the community should take extra pride in their establishment by giving us some decent utensils :) I will be back as always!

Yelp
I travel for work. I have been in this area for 4 days and eaten at Elsie's 3 out of the 4. (That should tell you something!) This food is absolutely amazing and the service is impeccable. I absolutely love the following.. 1. Seafood potpie. Yum! Ate it twice. 2. Fried okra appetizer. BEST fried okra I've ever eaten. 3. Brussel sprouts. SERIOUSLY- I'm going to crave them! 4. Almond Joy Pie! Absolutely delicious- but not super sweet. Perfection! SERIOUSLY! You need to eat here. It is amazing. Staff (and managers) are wonderful!!

Julie B.

Yelp
We've been to Elsie's a few times. Our meals have been generally on the good side, a miss or two. Grits were the best I've ever had, and now I don't see them on the menu. However. Tonight's meal was a total miss. I ordered the crab cake sandwich which was mostly soggy bread crumbs with little taste. Pulled the crab cake off the bun and dissected it and found little crab. They did put sauce on the bun but I was searching for more. Crabcake sandwich was pricy with no sides. I opted for the dessert special of the night, an apple berry pie a la mode. A true disappointment. I will say we were there about an hour before closing and I felt like I got the left overs from the pie pan. I didn't have one bite of apple, there were few berries with a mound of pie crust. They must heat it up in a broiler because it was burned. The place is cute with a fun vibe. I'm not sure if we'll be back, there are too many unexplored restaurants in BR to be this disappointed.

Yelp
I had an amazing first impression of this restaurant and still recommend for some tasty Louisiana food with a modern spin on some of the dishes. I particularly recommend the seafood pot pie which was my favorite before I became lactose intolerant. The house salad with their pepper jelly vinaigrette is also a nice side. To me, Elsie's is a place where you have to decide what you like on the menu and that will dictate your experience. The ambiance is lively and the service is standard - you can expect the normal check ups. The restaurant gets pretty busy so my pro tip is to try and avoid peak times on the weekend.

Yelp
We went to Elsie's on New Years night. The food was phenomenal and the service was excellent!

Yelp
The food was delicious - the pies are definitely worth it. The wait staff was very friendly and the vibes inside were really neat. You can tell there's lots of history and pride in the story. Highly eecommen

Yelp
Breakfast brunch spot that has a similar vibe to Joey K's in New Orleans, but with a strong breakfast focus (but not to the extent of a Ruby Slipper). Crawfish omelette was delicious and despite appearances in the photo with the creme sauce, not too heavy. Tomato Pie was an unexpected and welcome treat. The side salad: usually worth a mention, but mine was so good my dining partner ordered one up mid-meal. Tart flavorful house dressing, highly recommended. Long narrow dining hall that expands camel-back style into a broader area. Tables are packed in there but not uncomfortably close, and it has that New Orleans make that South Louisiana loud and happy restaurant atmosphere. Speak up if you want to be heard, and expect to overhear a few of your neighbors, too. (Hey, thanks for the stock tip....I'll be sure to go light on the salt next time). Parking lot is full, but it's a pleasant walk down the street in one of Baton Rouge's older residential areas. Just don't block any driveways, please! Back inside to the service, you'll find attentive prompt and knowledgeable staff who, unlike this sentence, don't sound like a press release. But they really are nice. The coffee is dark strong hot and refilled with lil prompting here and there. It's what one looks for in a brunch place, five stars for creative food, good service, and a bright atmosphere.

Yelp
We were very disappointed in the server we had last night. Usually he is not as attentive as the other male bartender. That being said I ordered a burger( medium well) and a cup of soup and my husband ordered a bowl of soup and a club sandwich. My burger was medium rare and I was unable to eat it. I brought it to the attention to our server. My husband and I can only afford such places with the help of coupons. I don't think the server much liked customers coming in with coupons. We told him it was my birthday and he mumbled you already have a coupon. needless to say we were unhappy with the overall service. We've brought out of town guest here because the food is yummy when cooked correctly. Oh btw we always tip 20%. Won't be coming back any time soon and if we do we will request another server.

Yelp
Had a great dinner at Elsie's Plate & Pie tonight! Our waiter George Alex(or was it Alex George?) was fantastic! Cute as a button, great service, personable, just added to the atmosphere of the dinner. I had the Big Plate with fried catfish fingers, fried shrimp, and fried shrimp stuffed with Crawfish stuffing. Ray had the Pimento BLT! Both truly delicious and worth getting. Red beans and rice with a deep, rich flavor was a great side dish. Finished the night with the Coconut Cream pie for Ray, the Blueberry Cobbler with Vanilla Ice Cream.....both delicious and shareable! This was our first time in Baton Rogue and so glad we stumbled into Elsie's!

Yelp
Queso was amazing. The Ogden Chicken Sandwich was very flavorful. Seafood Pie was delicious and the Bayou BBQ Burger was great as well. Our waitress was very attentive and never let a glass go empty. Love the atmosphere and the fact it is so family friendly.

Yelp
Everything about this place was amazing! Cute and cozy, great service, and the food was hands down, one of the best meals I've had in my life! From the Boudin Egg Rolls and sauce, the tomato pie, and ALL of the desserts! Berry nachos especially. Would recommend over and over again!

Yelp
Our waitress, Amy, was very knowledgeable on the menu and gave great suggestions. The food was amazing! We had the fried okra for an appetizer. I had the Hwy 1 "mushroom burger' cooked medium, it was delicious! My fiancé had the special called the Arlington chicken sandwich, it too was delicious! I highly recommend this restaurant. P.S. I love the story behind the business, it's at the entrance of the restaurant.

Yelp
Easily my Husband's and I's favorite restaurant!! Every experience we've had at this establishment has met and exceeded all our expectations! The food is WONDERFUL, the staff and service have always been very kind and timely- and while it can get busy, it's all worth it for how delicious everything is! I recommend this place to EVERYONE I know!

Yelp
YUM! YUM! YUM! This is a must try if you're in town. The place is indoors (in case the outdoor heat scares you ). The service is friendly, informative and happy. THE FOOD: perfectly cooked, seasoned and all the options for all customers. Not to mention the cocktails, which are great and with many options. Delicious overall. Definitely will be a regular spot every time we are in town.

Yelp
Elsie's Plate & Pie is located on Government Street with a shared parking lot in the back. Our AirBnB was located pretty close by this restaurant and was also highly recommended by a friend (a local) to stop by here. So my husband and I stopped by here on a Saturday night, around 10:15 pm for some dessert. I was greeted by a few very friendly employees behind the bakery case. I told the first employee that I wanted to order some pie to go. This employee gave me a few of her recommendations (which I did decide to do) and also ended up ordering the following: Slice of Cherry Limeade Pie, $6 prior to tax- This dessert is very sweet but honestly I did like it. Not sure if I would want a second slice though. I thought the size of the slice was perfect for sharing. The cherry part of the pie does taste like a very sweet cherry limeade. Almond Joy Pie, $6 prior to tax- This mini pie has whipped cream, custard, chocolate drizzle, toasted coconut and slivered almonds in a baked pastry shell. A very delicious combination and a pretty large size for 2 people to share. Coconut Cream Pie, $6 prior to tax- This mini pie is nearly as similar as the Almond Joy Pie but without the chocolate drizzle. I really liked this pie as well and the portion size is perfect for 2 to share. --------------------------------- (Total= $19.80 after tax) My friend told me that the food is also very good, not just the desserts. If I lived in this area, I would most likely be a repeat visitor and would love to try them again if I ever visit Baton Rouge again.

Yelp
Always packed and for good reason! One of my favorite spots ever and I will always bring people from out of town here. Their crawfish queso is amazing and their cycling pies are always great. Every drink I've ever gotten from the bar has also been great. Even though it's very busy here, it's worth the wait!

Yelp
This place is always great. Love the food here and service is usually really wonderful! The staff here I generally really warm and welcoming too.

Yelp
Elise's is a delightful restaurant that entices you with the aroma of delicious food even before you walk in. We were quickly seated and received great recommendations. I ordered the Chicken Poulet Pot Pie, a flavorful and delicious dish with a flaky, non-soggy crust and plenty of chicken. Though the pot pie itself is a hearty meal, I managed to try a slice of their signature pie, which tasted just as delicious after some time in the fridge. The Po Boy was massive, featuring well-seasoned shrimp and an excellent bread-to-shrimp ratio. Overall, a fantastic dining experience!

Yelp
This place was amazing. Clean. Well maintained. Staff were attentive and friendly. The food was tasty. Fresh, flavorful and filling. 3F! I wish I could remember what we got because it was so good. But I have to believe anything here would be amazing.
