"Lucho Martinez is probably the buzziest new chef working in CDMX right now. His newest endeavor, Em, is definitely high-end, but it’s also accessible (think of it as an alternative to Pujol if the price and two-months-in-advance reservation requirements feel prohibitive). With a farm-to-table-focused menu, this Roma spot offers a wide range of interesting and fun dishes, like mole served with beef tongue, a spicy chicken that even has its own Instagram, local wagyu beef, and even Petrossian caviar. And yes, if you’re even thinking of coming here, you should make a reservation ASAP." - Guillaume Guevara

Been to Em’s a couple times and each time has been amazing! The noodles are elastic and bouncy giving them a very unique texture compared to other pho places. The chicken wings also have a very nice slightly sweet glaze. If you love pho then you should definitely consider giving Em’s a try! I recommend coming in person if you can instead of ordering online as the portion is much smaller for takeout/delivery.

Went during work lunch break at around noon. Plenty of street parking, seated ourselves and was promptly attended to by staff. Easy to read, clean menus, quick service, great tasting food at reasonable prices, clean establishment. No complaints from me. I will be a returning customer for their pho and Vietnamese iced coffee for sure. Perhaps if I have company again I can share and try more of their dishes.

A nice fast food Vietnamese restaurant. The soup base is slightly different from traditional. Overall a nice restaurant to go to

First things first, I gotta give a shout out to Kate because of her immaculate professionalism and warm service greetings that makes one feel at home once they enter the establishment. She is always kind and goes above & beyond to make sure customers are comfortable and welcomed. She honestly deserves the world and whoever said so otherwise, ima need to see your manager right quick. Food is always fire🔥 and place is clean. Only positives, never a negative. I absolutely adore Em at 86th and I hope more people would visit the place so they can have the same experience that I have.

We came in right at 11:30 around opening time and there was no one else inside but the worker. We ordered the beef pho and I ordered the beef on the side, it came out quickly and thankfully piping hot! The soup was strong in flavor but was light and not heavy like other pho places, it felt refreshing! The noodles were fine but the meat quality is top notch, the color is dark red and fresh. Definitely would come back again for a warm bowl of soup noodles

Google
I love this cosy Vietnamese place in Bensonhurst. It is healing to my soul when I was dining in here. Comfortable, lofi music playing in the background, great selection of menu items. I ordered “Mien Ga” which is chicken noodle soup with glass noodles, shredded chicken, onions, scallions and cilantro. Put in the oyster sauce provided on the table and Siracha hot sauce = YUM! The ingredients are simple yet it taste so good. It is unlike any other Viet restaurants I had been to. The taste is just so special. Also ordered fresh sparkling Vietnamese Limeade, a delicious refreshing drink! The staff there today was hospitable, attentive and gentle spirited, making it a even more comfortable and relaxing experience in this restaurant. I highly recommend this place and definitely will come in when I need a cheer me up. It made me feel comforted and I feel I’ve found a new place to recharge my soul.

Google
My first experience here wasn’t great but I decided to give it another try. I’ve been coming ever since. My favorite place for pho in this area. I love their drinks and smoothies! The Castaway is my favorite and Summer of ‘69 is good too, you can taste it’s made from fresh mangoes. I recommend their Pho Bo Em. Their broth is different from the places nearby, and makes me feel so warm inside. I’ve tried their chicken pho, wouldn’t try again, I just prefer the beef broth more. Their braised pork ribs were good too, meat was tender and juicy. I DEFINITELY recommend their chicken wings, I loved the sauce and it was fried perfectly. Spring and summer rolls are alright here, I prefer another place’s. Overall, a great place for viet food. They should have more seats though!

Yelp
I've always ordered through Uber Eats and thought the food was quite decent so I visited the restaurant for a quick little reunion with my 3 friends and sure didn't disappoint! We were exceptionally quiet the entire dinner despite not having seen each other in months, but that's your tell-tale sign that the food SLAPPED. 100% worth the wait. Restaurant was nice, a bit like HK cafe style. Limited seats so come early!

Yelp
Small viet restaurant in Bensonhurst area. There's only about 4 tables and counter seats for dine-in. I've been to their newer location in Dumbo, Brooklyn, where the prices are significantly higher, so I was interested in trying this location out. The prices are here are more on par with local viet restaurants. I ordered the beef pho, spring rolls, and a coconut smoothie. The broth of the beef pho was delicious. Everything else was on par with viet spots like Gia Lam. The spring rolls were a bit lacking in my opinion. It was thinner and less meaty than I preferred. Add the short ribs to your pho for $10. The short rib is huge and tender -- definitely a good plus if you need extra to fill you up. Good viet restaurant in the neighborhood.

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday afternoon as a group of three around 2 pm and there was seating available. The space did get filled throughout the day and we thankfully weren't rushed out. I ordered the Pho Bo Em, which is their classic beef pho + it was fine. Not my favorite beef pho broth, but I know lots of viet spots have their own broth recipes. I really liked the beef variations in my pho tho - beef ball, well done beef, and rare beef. I also ordered a Viet Iced Coffee (8 oz) which was just ok too. Not as strong as I'm used to, but refreshing nonetheless. I heard that this location is known for their Banh Mis, so I'm open to coming back for them next time! Overall, nice service, bright interior, and calm neighborhood vibes!

Kiki C.

Yelp
Tried takeout from here few times. Food is 3.5/5. Banh Mi is decent. Don't mind coming back again in the future.

Beatrice P.

Yelp
Ordered a bulgogi beef and lemongrass chicken banh mi for delivery through Uber eats. Both sandwiches were pretty good but likely not great because we got delivery- they were cold and bread was not crispy. The meat itself was soft, well-cooked, and flavorful. There was no jalapeño which is standard for banh mi but perhaps because we chose the not spicy spice level. I would have still liked some jalapeño in there to round out the flavor. Carrots and daikon were delicious. Overall, a good not amazing option for take out but high food quality and is likely delicious if you dine in or pick the food up.

M G.

Yelp
Their food is pretty good. The broth is really tasty and is not heavy at all. The only thing is the staff was a little confusing and was zoned out. We ordered the wings and a kind of drink and double checked with her, but she didn't put the wings in our order. Also, she ordered the wrong drink for my friend. Overall, the food is recommended for sure. Need to train their staff a little bit well.

Amanda M.

Yelp
Em Vietnamese has the best pho I've had in years. It's super affordable, considering how generous they are with portions and the rising food costs across the city. They have two locations, I prefer the Bay Ridge location for a quick bowl of pho and the Dumbo location for a romantic dinner. If you have food allergies or dietary restrictions, don't worry because the staff is knowledgeable and the menu is well labeled.

Laydee I.

Yelp
Probably the worse viet food I ever ate, I'm pretty sure it's not authentic. Portions are so tiny it looks sad. You would think you're getting a good deal with prices lowered than other viet places but wait till you see their portions n quality. The soup for the noodles came lukewarm. The chicken in the glass noodles was dry. The soup was bland. I make better chicken noodle soup than this!! The beef pho had some weird spices in it, tasted like cinnamon? lol. The bahn mi bread wasn't even toasted. Worst of all they didn't follow directions for the shrimp summer roll which I requested for peanut sauce. What summer roll comes with fish sauce?? That's a first. Ugh. Much regret trying this place. People who rate this place higher than a 3 stars never ate viet before. lol. Sadly it's the only viet in that neighborhood hence the many reviews. Do yourself a favor and go to the east 14th st and ave u area and get yourself some tasty HOT real viet food that will make you full.

Yelp
We're new to the Brooklyn/Bay Ridge area and as pho-loving foodies, my husband and I eyed this place for quite some time before bringing our family of 6 here for dinner one evening. The restaurant is small with some tables and seats along the window, but clean and has plenty of decor on the walls that kept my busy sons occupied while we looked at the menu. Our server was nice and patient. We asked if they had any soda and they didn't but told us there's a market next door so Hubby went over for some juice boxes and sodas. We both ordered 3 orders of the Pho Bo Em (1 for myself, 1 for my husband who asked for his with a beef rib, and 1 for two of our boys to split) and a Pho Ga for our other two to share, along with an order of the crispy spring rolls. Spring rolls were hot and fresh, and the boys really enjoyed them wrapped up in lettuce leaves with pickled carrot and daikon (I think). I don't normally give out such a low rating because I do my research beforehand AND I try a place twice before really deciding if I don't like it. However, after reading plenty of Yelp reviews of Em and being so hyped up to get our pho fixes, we were really disappointed. I'm not sure if the broth was watered down or if there was a shortage the weeknight we went in (around 5:30-6pm) but we've never had such a plain pho broth in any restaurant before (we've lived in a couple different states and have tried pho joints everywhere we've moved). The broth had a very subtle beef flavor and was lackluster. The prices were a high for what we tasted, and the amount of actual pho content was mediocre. I'd probably try a different dish (like the hu tieu soups) next time before completely writing off Em.

Yelp
We walked in at the right time before it started getting too busy. This place seems really popular. It took a while for the staff to take our order. The coffee was really good. It wasn't too sweet. We ordered spring rolls and two different bowls of noodle soups, and a banh mi.

Georgiana Y.

Yelp
First time here. Pretty fast service and casual seating. Got the hu tieu (signature pho w shrimp and pork rib) and cha gio (spring rolls). I liked the pho broth (clear & warm on a cold day) but was a little disappointed by the meat in it (there was one pork rib, and though it came off the bone easily, it was not very flavorful; the other meat pieces were broken up into very small bits that made them hard to grab). The noodles also clumped together a bit in the soup when it first came out. The cha gio was pretty tasty, though.

Fanny D.

Yelp
It wasnt busy when I came so we were seated very quickly. We ordered the chicken wings, Suon Kho, and Thit Kho Tieu. The chicken wings were ok. The 2 entrees I ordered were good and good in portion. I also ordered the viet coffee which tasted more like a regular coffee than a viet coffee (dripped coffee with condensed milk)

Austin L.

Yelp
I really like the banh mi sandwiches here! The pho is good too, but last time I ordered it, I felt the broth could be hotter. However, the Banh Mi Dac Biet is the best. It's packed with Vietnamese meats and daikon. The bread is soft and crunchy at the same time. The place is pretty small inside, so I usually order take out!

Bellody C.

Yelp
Located close to pho 86 and pho tay ho, Em is good but a bit more pricey compared to others in the area. The menu isn't as extensive too. The cute little spot, it's interior, and china are aesthetically pleasing. The staff were pretty attentive. There's not a lot of tables but don't worry about not having a seat. I got Pho Bo Em and the broth was a bit sweet. The spring rolls were good but you can't really go wrong with spring rolls. It was all filling but I definitely could've gotten the same portion for cheaper a few blocks away.

Heidi M.

Yelp
As a fan of Em's Dumbo location, I knew this OG spot wouldn't disappoint. It's a smaller, no-frills location with a modest menu but the food still hits. Plus at a lower price point! Really can't go wrong with that. I had to get the hu tieu kho ($11 here, $17 in dumbo) which is one of my fave noodle dishes and it was perfect. My bf who had been feeling under the weather got the beef pho ($13 here, $17 in dumbo) and it cured his soul. We also shared a banh mi op la ($8) which is a classic banh mi w/ a fried egg. Halfway through the sandwich I realized that the bread wasn't scratching the roof of my mouth like banh mis usually do and I was thoroughly amazed. It was light and airy and just so good that we had to buy another one to go - the banh mi dac biet ($9). We asked for the veggies on the side so it'd be nice and fresh the next day and that it was. Definitely recommend everything we ate here. Can proudly say that I'm a fan of both locations now!

Yelp
The cozy environment, tasty food, speedy service, and minimal wait time make me want to return.

Yelp
I'm offended. I was kicked out of the restaurant halfway through my meal because they were closing. The girl never told us we had to get out before their closing time nor tell us upon arrival that it might be a rush to dine in. We would've ordered takeout if we knew in advance. We sat less than 30min. I'll give a timeline. 7:55 pm I arrive requesting a table for two. The girl told me to wait 5min so she can clear out this table with dirty dishes. They had a countertop against the window that I wouldn't have wanted to sit in but would've wanted to be offered to sit there. Then there's two tables full of takeout bags and random restaurant stock that could've equated to 6-8 more seats. Anyway we sat and ordered very soon. We weren't even given utensils or water until after we ordered. I asked for hot tea but she said they only have hot water. Ok but they didn't have enough of that either because I saw her pour some cold lemon water into our cups. The water came out room temp, not even warm. My dad and I each got a main order plus spring rolls to share. The girl took our order without writing it down and had to come back to clarify. It's only three items... 8:11 pm (according to the timestamp from my photo of this) My bahn mi arrives. Dad's pho arrived one minute before mine. We both start eating right away. 8:13 pm Spring roll arrives. 8:16 pm Girl comes up telling us they're closing. I said ok and checked my phone because I couldn't hear if she meant 4min or 14min. If it was 4 then wow they're giving us an advanced warning when the signs say 8:30 close. 8:21 pm Girl comes up again saying they're closed. This time she didn't walk away. I look back at her and asked, "do you want us to pay or do you want us to leave?" She didn't answer my question and just said they're closed and asked if I want to pack my food. At that point I was only 1/3 into my bahn mi. I'm like, "if you want us to leave now then ofc I can't finish. I'll have to pack this." So she proceeded to get our food packed and gave the check. We're annoyed that the girl didn't tell us upon arrival that there's not enough time to sit down and eat. A lot of restaurants tell customers about last order cut off times. Even then they'd let people finish their food. I don't like how we were kicked out because it's not like we were stalling. Upon normal course of eating we'd probably would've left in 10min anyway. Why need to rush us? From telling us to get out to getting us the check and packed food took another 5min. The girl is slow and it looks like she's struggling the manage the tiny restaurant as the only wait staff. During the short time I was there, she only had to deal with 5 customers (2 tables) and 4 takeout order pickups. Everytime someone came in or asked for something, it felt like she had to scramble to finish what was on her hands before scrambling to get to the new request. The only items on our table to be cleared were: one bowl, one basket, two chopsticks, two spoons, two cups, two napkins. This isn't a big burden or hurdle to closing. Our table also had a patch of dried hoisin sauce that wasn't properly wiped before we sat. Ok if the girl wasn't feeling well or it's really not her day or there's some emergency reason to close then I would've been ok to be told so. I don't recall seeing anyone on Yelp comment about their service so idk if it's a one off situation. Regardless it was an unpleasant experience where my dad said we're never coming back again. --- comments on the food Spring roll. It came out piping hot but the flavor of the filling to the texture of the wrapper to the flavor of the sauce, none of it tasted good. They only gave two small leaves of lettuce to go with the four spring rolls. I never get why restaurants are stingy like that. Bahn mi dac biet. I guess it was better to get this "deluxe" version with marinated pork. The veggies were bright and fresh. The most important aspect to me was the bread. I like how the bread is soft and pillowy with a slight toast making it warm upon arrival. I would've been open to coming back for the bahn mi if it wasn't for the service but now nah. Hu Tieu Em. Dad got this and was ok with the broth. He didn't like how the noodles were undercooked, it only came with two shrimp, and the pork rib was not fresh (he literally didn't eat any of it).

Tiffany L.

Yelp
My friends and I stopped by right when it opened. There were gradually more patrons later in the afternoon, and many takeout orders. The place isn't very big, about 5 tables and the bar by the window. Although Em restaurant does not taste like authentic Vietnamese food, it tastes good on its own without comparing to traditional flavors. - The Hu Tieu Em was more muted and pricier than a traditional Vietnamese restaurant. - The Thit Kho was pretty delicious and authentic. - The star of the show was definitely the Mango Tango though, love the richness of the Vietnamese yogurt with super prominent mango flavors. Overall, the service was quick but the food wasn't anything special or authentic. I would rather go to the traditional Vietnamese restaurant on 86st.

Sammi K.

Yelp
I've been back at Em quite a few times and I must say, their banh mi's are delicious. In my previous review, I mentioned that they didn't hit the spot as they used to, but they did hit the spot the many times I've been since then! I usually order the original Banh Mi Em and occasionally the Banh Mi Nem when I'm feeling a little more extra. Just beware of the jalapeños, they are still hella spicy! I also tried their Pho Bo (beef pho) for the first time recently and it was amazing. The broth is rich and decadent and the beef is semi-fatty and tender. The price is a bit steeper than other pho restaurants in the area, but it's well worth the upgrade. A cute little mom-and-pop restaurant worth the visit on the outskirts of the bustling part of 86th street - highly recommend if you're in the Bensonhurst area!

Joann L.

Yelp
I had this placed bookmarked for a while and since my best friend and I were in the area we decided to come by here for a late lunch / early dinner. We came here around 4 pm on a Sunday and the place itself was fairly empty (it did get busy around 5 pm). The place itself is pretty small but they do have tables for like groups of 4-5. The menu was not too large but there was a lot of banh-mi options with really unique banh-mi's that sounded delicious. We decided to both get the Em Pho Bo - the soup base was delicious, super flavorful. The meat that was in the dish was very tender as well and not tough at all. Definitely one of the more flavorful soup bases that I have had for pho. The portion size was fair for the price (slightly more pricey than your usual traditional pho places). My friend got a bunch of banh-mi's to go ; the banh-mi's were of a fair price. Definitely would come back in the future to try out their banh mi's!

Sandy D.

Yelp
This cute little cafe is tucked in along an area of non-restaurants, so it might be hard to fine if you're not deliberately going there. It gave super family friendly yet hip and modern vibes compared to your usual pho places. Em actually has way more banh mi selections than pho! Eating a crunchy crumbly sandwich in front of someone isn't exactly my type of thing, (although I wish it was if I wasn't so messy) so I settled on their pho. The Hu Tieu Em ($11) was a non-beef pho, having shrimp and a pork rib as its protein. I wasn't exactly a fan of this, since the broth taste was somewhat gingery and too bland tasting. The pork rib (it was plural in the menu but no, it's just one) was a nice surprise and still tasted flavorful albeit a little dry of course! The pho was a unique change but for the price, I'd still rather get beef. The Pho Bo Em ($13) was your traditional beef pho, and it was quite heavy on the broth flavor compared to other places. I personally really like their soft and tender beef here. This place isn't bad for a pho fix, and I personally am curious about their banh mi selections for future visits!

Justin L.

Yelp
I really really wanted to love Em's since I heard raving reviews about their pho but we didn't love the pho here. We ordered the Hu Tieu ($11) and Pho Bo (with added shortrib so it came out to be $25). Overall, my partner and I thought the noodles were ok - but the bowl consisted of mostly noodles and very little additional toppings. The short rib was tender and came with quite some meat, but didn't have much flavor (to add this short rib it was an additional $12 or so - kind of pricey). We've gone to other locations that charge around the same price, but give a lot more meat and also have richer broths. The seating is a bit limited at this location if you're looking to dine in. The staff working there were super nice. While we didn't enjoy the food very much we did enjoy the smoothie we ordered! We ordered the Mango Tango Smoothie ($5) and it was super delicious. It hit the spot after the meal. Maybe one day we'll come back to try other menu items!

Cheryl N.

Yelp
Yummy beef pho! The broth is amazing. Great for takeout and also there are a few tables for dining in. Service was nice and quick. Only downside is I ordered a lemon/lime sparkling drink for $4 and it was served in an itty bitty coffee cup. The cup should be twice the size IMO. However, the pho was good value for the money.

Sharon L.

Yelp
After having a particularly bad day, I came to Em seeking some good comfort food and got exactly what I was hoping for. I had been to Em years ago, but since moving back, this was the first time I stopped by. I was easily sold by the Pho Ga description of "Vietnamese chicken noodle soup for the soul" and ordered that and a limeade. The Pho Ga here is the ultimate comfort food. Although the broth is quite clear and unassuming, the first sip of broth is so delicious, flavorful, and comforting. The usual sides are provided (bean sprouts, jalapenos, basil, lime). There's also a little green sauce that packs a peppery punch. Portion size was perfect - I finished the bowl and felt quite satisfied. Generally, I don't try to finish the broth at pho places as they tend to be a bit much after finishing the noodles and whatnot, but I finished everything here! Honest confession - the pho ga impressed me so much that I ordered it again the next day for delivery. I took a sip of the broth straight from the container (without noodles or anything else), and can now say that this is one of my top 5 favorite chicken soups. Definitely will be returning soon! For the drinks - limeade and watermelon coolers are great choices. Limeade provides a good contrast to a hearty bowl of noodle soup, and the watermelon cooler would be a perfect treat for warmer days.

Donny T.

Yelp
I only ate here once and I like to believe the Pho Broth used to taste authentic as it takes many hours to get that delicious aroma and taste from bone broth. After eating my first Pho Bo here, the broth just taste an express broth made with bullion cubes and lot's of it. I can feel that excess MSG pumping through my veins. They do use quality ingredients for the Pho Bo. The spring rolls didn't taste like anything and it looked like it was stuff with too much of something. Since the business expanded I have to assume the owner isn't there anymore to control the quality and is prioritizing quick profits resulting in mediocre food. I would not order the same thing again but I'm still interested in trying their other dishes like banh mi and their shaking beef as the photos look enticing.

Sasha C.

Yelp
I'm a bit torn with the rating and here's why. We have tried both delivery/take out and dine in. When you take out the soup is decent but it feels very unfilling in terms of the portion. So the ideal would be to have the pho in person. However, since there are just a few tables we rarely take the chance to dine in. Recently we did for lunch and sat at one of the tables against the wall. It was really gross. The walls had spatters of sauce and appeared as though they have never even so much given a wipe down. And for some reason the whole area smelled of dirty rag. If you have a sensitive nose like me, I kid you not, I could not focus on eating because I was so disturbed. The smell reminded me of the stench of a homeless person on a subway who left the seat but then you luckily sat down on it. I was so perturbed I wanted to get up and leave. Then the smell dissipated and I honestly was not able to figure out why. We enjoyed the bowl of pho for lunch which was loaded with ingredients that I feel normally doesn't come in the same size for deliveries. Aside from my disturbed smell, I also do notice the place doesn't feel the cleanest. Please do sanitize especially in these kinds of environments that we're in today. It would have been a solid 4 star had the cleanliness factor been better.

Ken S.

Yelp
We had the Hu Tieu and Pho Bo and they were both really, really good. Exactly what we were looking for. The all important broth in each was light, but complex with herbs and scallions. Deeply flavorful, but refreshing on a hot day. The noodles were properly cooked, properly textured, and the shrimp and pork in the Hu Tieu, and beef in the Pho Bo was generous enough, without being overloaded. It was completely satisfying. We also ordered a bahn mi to go, to eat later, because we knew it would be good, We didn't get around to eating it until several hours later, and by then the bread had steamed a bit from the hot ingredients, and been refrigerated for a while, so we can't speak to the quality of the bread. The variety of pork was very tasty, the carrots and daikon were superb, and the mayo was just right. I feel guilty that I didn't treat the bread with the respect it probably deserved, given the care they put into everything else. I will go back to get another sandwich and eat it right away to make amends. The ambiance is not much Basic diner. Don't get dressed up and take a date there to impress them. I don't care because I went for the food and am impressed and grateful when people care about what they cook. The two people working there were very kind, and attentive. You couldn't ask for more, given the type of place it is.

Yelp
Solid viet food Came here on a rainy day You will leave happy Every review is a haiku

Dalena H.

Yelp
Satisfying for dinner on a cold rainy night. I was pleasantly surprised of the depth the broth had. It was piping hot and you could see the oils which you know will be a good broth. It is a fairly small bowl for the price. There was a good amount of meats with garnishes and basil and bean sprouts on the side. The broth filled me up and not the meats and the noodles. Fairly small restaurant. Would love to come back see what their banh mi has to offer.

Sydney C.

Yelp
We had a craving for Pho and found this place Small restaurant with a simple menu of Vietnamese sandwiches and noodles The broth for the pho is fantastic; great care was taken to generate a rich clean flavor The brisket was very tender The beef balls on par with most other pho places Crispy spring rolls were great, but could have used a meatier stuff IMO 2h street parking out front

Cristina C.

Yelp
I have been wanting to try this place for a while now and ordered for delivery on UberEats. Food came really fast and everything was still hot. I ordered the Vietnamese spring rolls, pho bo em noodles, banh mi nem and a Vietnamese iced coffee. The spring rolls and iced coffee were good. Taste about the same from any Vietnamese restaurants. The pho bo em noodles was also really good but the soup base was definitely different from the usual pho I have tried. The soup was very flavorful and the beef was very fresh. I wasn't a fan of the banh mi nem though. The marinated pork tasted a little off to me and I couldn't finish the sandwich. They do have many other types of sandwiches I would love to come back and try though.

Yelp
PHO! Their bowls are so cute and homey. The interior is small but clean and bright. Smoothies are very delicious my favorite is the green dream which is avocado and condense milk, it is a 10. Chicken wings are so good on the flavoring. A hint of vinegar, fishsauce, and something else so tasty haha. soups were simple and ingredients were fresh.

Yelp
I heard good things about Em's so I decided to come check it out. I got the #1 as the person working there said it was the most popular. I'm used to the super asian viet places and this is def different. Price wise this was $9.80 after tax whereas 8th Ave is closer ~$8. This place doesn't toast the bread as much so it's not as crunchy. I think this place definitely feels healthier as they give a lot more carrots and radishes. I think it really depends on how you like your viet bread but I would say this is a more modern take on it. They do accept credit card which is awesome! Cute environment to dine in as well.

Yelp
After seeing a FB video of someone eating a Banh Mi, I instantly had a craving for one. This spot was walkable distance from my place so I figured I'd give it a go. Note that this review is strictly for the banh mi only. I plan to try their other goodies at a later time. The Banh Mi was overall good, not the best I've ever had but it hit the spot. The bread was soft and well toasted. It was loaded with lots of meats and pickled veggies. The only thing I did feel like it was missing was a bit more pate and mayo. If it had that it woulda been a solid Banh Mi.

Yelp
This place can be easy to miss if you're walking along 86th Street since it is small but this place packs a punch when it comes to their flavors and creativity. The place is small with about 5-6 tables but they do a lot of takeout orders. I sat down after a run along the bay and ordered the beef pho (pho bo) and also the pineapple express smoothie drink. The $5 drink was small but super flavorful with hints of ginger in there. It was refreshing for sure but of course it went down so fast. The pho itself was super rich and hearty and hit the spot on a semi cold day. There was a good amount of beef in there and the flavor was balanced throughout the dish. The overall experience was great and the server who was also working the counter was very attentive to everyone considering how small the place is. The prices are a bit higher for this type of cuisine compared to other places but it was still a good place to enjoy a nice casual afternoon meal.

Yelp
Came for sit down dinner around 6pm on a Friday night. It's a small space with mainly 3 tables and a window bar seating. We came in for a quick meal and ordered the wings, pho bo and the Em signature noodle bowl. Broths were distinctly different as the Em signature bowl (Hu tieu) had a cleaner taste coming from the leek. Both were extremely good and tasty. Chicken wings were saucy and I enjoyed the hint of fish sauce used in the dish. I would recommend this app to try. Overall, small space, quick service, and noodles are comforting and at a decent price for the quality. Would come back to try their banh mis and other appetizers!

Yelp
Amazing food and service. They have patient workers and food gets served really fast. It has good ambiance and a good location.

Yelp
I used to order from this restaurant and decided to order today. Inflation sucks. It's literally 3 big bites of noodles and 3 thin slices of meat for almost $14. Crazy huh. Probably not ordering again. Also, it's a lot of msg

Yelp
I ordered green smoothie. Girl make my order without gloves and in my smoothie was only ice.. Before it was not so bad restaurant, but today I'm not sure..

Yelp
Happened to be in the area and asked my friend out for dinner. He suggested "Em's" and I'm like okayyy. Walk in, temp check, contact info. Got seated, washed hands, and proceeded to order. Apps: Spring rolls, tasty - wrap with lettuce and pickled veggies Drinks: Pineapple smoothie - refreshing but the trick is to let it melt for a bit so you can slurp it all up with your straw. Mains: Banh Mi Dac Biet & Pho Consensus - Banh Mi is tasty and everything you expect. I added some Sriracha for some spice, in case the jalapeno doesn't do it for you. The Pho...the broth! Delicious!! Totally come back for my pho craving evenings. Was told they're opening in Dumbo soon. Can't wait!

Yelp
Went to get pho to-go for a something nice and warm for the cold weather. Came up across Em after being somewhat close in the area. Debated between the Pho Bo Em vs the Hu Tieu. Got the Pho Bo Em, as the cashier recommend that. The broth, raw ingredients/meats were divided into different containers and bag, which is normal for to-go. After adding everything together, the meat did take a little bit to cook from the hot broth which resulted in a gamey texture. The broth was flavorful, everything tasted pretty fresh except the spearmint which you can tell was withering a little. I wish there was more of either the filet mignon or rib eye (not the thinly sliced meat one) since there were only about 2-3 quarter-small-sized pieces, that meat was already pre-cooked and was very tender. The cashier was friendly. There was a decent amount of wait for the order as I noticed online orders being called and picked up despite no one dining in. Would definitely come and try for something new again. Their banh mi's looked very unique, interesting, and not your average traditional, which is something I would come back to try. A bit on the pricier end of Vietnamese cuisine and not the best Pho I've had but it gets the job done.

Yelp
The beef phở was excellent. Really clean broth with strong beef flavors, paired with tender cuts of beef and beef balls makes for a delicious and comforting bowl of phở. You might see flecks of meat in the broth when you are eating this, this is normal as the hot broth is poured over the raw beef right before service. This process will often cause small flecks of meat to be in the otherwise clean and clear broth. We also had the chicken wings. Cooked perfectly so the meat is juicy and tender with some crunch on the outside. The sauce is a sweet and sour chili sauce that is really addicting. Definitely worth ordering. I also had their salted lemonade. It typically tastes like Gatorade, but this location made theirs very Salty. Overall, a really good place for phở and chicken wings. Would definitely revisit to try other items on the menu.

Yelp
Pho was basically water, shrimp and egg is not traditional at all. You'd think it'd add something to the dish but no. Heavily disappointed is an extreme understatement. Please, this is insult to Vietnamese food.

Yelp
First time trying this place and ordered the hu tieu em noodles. The noodles came with shrimp, egg and a pork rib. The broth was good but the portion was on smaller side. Overall the food was good and I would like to try their banh mi sandwiches next time.

Yelp
This is the best Vietnamese restaurant in NYC and Brooklyn! Moving from Seattle and couldn't find a place that sells Hu Tieu, I looked on DoorDash stumbled upon this gem of a restaurant! I ordered twice and phenomenal! The food was excellent quality, authentic, packaged nicely, and at a good price . Kudos to this restaurant and good job .

Yelp
The food here is delicious and very authentic. I like that they have very traditional dishes but also really cool more modern twists. These were the best bahn mis ive ever had and the price point is amazing. Some of the cheapest Vietnamese food I've had. The vegan egg rolls were delicious as well and their smoothies are very refreshing. Our delivery came earlier than expected and everything was still fresh. Would highly recommend.

Yelp
I would've never thought that this Em was the same people behind the DUMBO location that has a cult following, but it is! In fact, this is the older location. I'm always looking for good banh mi in south Brooklyn, and passed by this place on a drive. I stopped in to see if they had any menus and they just gave me a business card with their website (em-restaurant.com). Prices are reasonable, and their online ordering system is great. Got a Banh Mi Dac Biet for myself (their deluxe classic banh mi), picked up the Pho Bo Em (with filet mignon) for my folks, and a pork/shrimp/mushroom spring roll order to share. The banh mi was pretty good. Definitely didn't taste like any other banh mi I've had before on account of the banana leaf pork and the housemade pate. The bread even was a cut above. Very good, but could've used more spice (just a few jalapenos haphazardly thrown in). Also be warned that it doesn't used shredded pork like your typical banh mi in Brooklyn, so the texture is different. The Pho was very good, with very rare beef. Though the portion size was a little small. Lots of pork, but not a lot of noodles. The spring rolls were very good. I also got their mango/passionfruit smoothie. It was called the Summer of '69, so how could I not? Felt very summery without being overbearingly sweet. I did a pickup order, which is an option on their site. You just have to call them and they'll bring it out to your car. Super convenient to have a bus stop right out front. Would definitely order from them again!

Yelp
Great place to grab pho. I always get their chicken pho- the sauce on the side is what really sets this place chicken pho from the others.

Yelp
Disappointing. First time here, I ordered the $9 "deluxe" Banh Mi and it looks so sad: no cilantro, no sauce, carrots & daikon and jalapeño are too large; they don't pickle well, dry old baguette and the pate is almost non-existent. Their Pho probably good but i don't like taking risks so good luck with that.

Yelp
Em has multiple locations with this one being limited in seating and is more for take out. The food is traditional Viet fare with some unique items. They have a wide varity of Banh Mi's. The food is very good and I liked my Banh Mi very much. I'd definitely would come back to try some of the other Banh Mi's
