"People tend to get weird about seafood restaurants. Either they assume they’re all either sushi bars with intimidating menus, cheesy themed chains in mall parking lots, $400 meals of foam, or the stuffy, white-tableclothed graveyards from childhood with nightly specials including overcooked cod and secondhand cigarette smoke. EMC Raw bar, on the other hand, is a lively Ktown spot that shatters all preconceived notions of what a seafood restaurant can be. Located on the ground floor of a mall in Koreatown, EMC is, above all else, a hell of a good time. It has a big, modern feel, flat screen TVs on the wall playing soccer, and a very solid beer and cocktail list. So, it’s a sports bar? Hardly. Take a look around and you’ll spot everything from a handsy first date in the corner to a family of four enjoying a rare night out of the house, to a big group of friends downing sake like it’s mineral water. Oh, and The Spice Girls are blasting over the soundsystem. It’s weird and cool and entirely different than anything else you’ll find in LA. And the menu is just as wonderful. photo credit: Jakob Layman Anyone who’s attempted to plan a group outing to a seafood restaurant knows people get pretty particularly about their fish. But at EMC, the menu is so varied that if somebody doesn’t walk out happy, it’s their own fault. Want to go all-in on some oysters and salmon carpaccio? Play it closer to home with a lobster roll and fish tacos? You can go either way, because all of it is good. There’s also a decent meat section, and a garlic noodle you shouldn’t be embarrassed about ordering. The best thing on the menu, however, is the creamy uni pasta, and you simply can’t leave here without ordering it for the table and then actually just eating all yourself. EMC is one of those rare casual restaurants that’s good for everything and everyone’s price point, but also interesting and fun. The fact they’re serving very solid seafood is almost just a bonus. So skip your boring group hang spot this week and go to EMC for a meal you’ll actually remember. Secondhand smoke not required. Food Rundown photo credit: Jakob Layman Uni Pasta This is the best thing on the menu. Uni is very polarizing, but this dish will convert just about anyone. It’s rich, creamy, and everything you want after a long week. photo credit: Jakob Layman Mini Lobster Roll Lobster rolls are expensive in LA, and most of the time, not worth it. EMC’s is worth it. Massive chunks of lobster with very little butter and no distracting toppings to cover anything up. And at $13, it’s a steal. photo credit: Jakob Layman Oysters Get some for the table. Not only because they’re good, but also because every day from 4 - 7pm and 10pm - close, they’re a dollar each. photo credit: Jakob Layman Clams In Abalone Broth Basically just a big bowl of clams, this is an ideal early order item when everybody’s hungry and just needs to get their hands on something. photo credit: Jakob Layman Salmon Carpaccio EMC has a bunch of different seafood carpaccios, but the salmon is our favorite. Topped with ponzu sauce and truffle, it’s light but fantastic. photo credit: Jakob Layman Tuna Tartare Not the best tuna tartare we’ve ever had, but you need to order this simply for those wonton chips on the side. We’ll take these in an industrial-sized bag to-go, please." - Brant Cox

"If you’re looking for a good jumping off point before a night out in Koreatown, it doesn’t get much better than EMC. This modern raw bar and restaurant on the ground floor of a mall has a big menu of seafood-leaning dishes (the uni pasta is a must) and a crowd that won’t judge if you end up getting drunker than you had originally planned. The Deal: $1.50 oysters, $6 beer, wine, well drinks, and sake. $4-6 bar snacks. When: Sunday-Thursday 10pm-close, Friday-Saturday 11pm-close." - Brant Cox

"Koreatown is an easy move for a group dinner involving barbecue, but sometimes sitting around a giant smoking table of meat is going to involve a little too much smoke and meat for your Tuesday night. EMC, on the other hand, is pretty ideal no matter what kind of mood you’re in. The modern space on the ground floor of a Ktown mall is always a good time, and while it’s seafood-heavy, there’s plenty of other stuff to eat on the accessible and affordable menu. Also, they serve dollar oysters every day from 4 to 7pm." - Jess Basser Sanders, Brant Cox

"The best part of a group dinner at EMC is the giant menu, where even your friend who’s petrified of oysters will find something they’re into. The second best thing about EMC is their late night Happy Hour, which runs from 10pm during the week and 11pm on weekends, until they close. It involves $6 drinks, $1.50 oysters, and a bunch of other food options for less than $10." - Jess Basser Sanders, Brant Cox, Brett Keating

Oyster chefs choice is very very small, otherwise everything else is good. Other food is in good portion, but keep in mind that if you are there for happy hour, you are not getting the full size as the full price menu. Service is good, staff is friendly, don't forget the 3 hour of parking validation, just bring the receipt with you to the parking exit.

Great place for happy hour with friendly wait staff. Beware, it gets busy! I ordered some hot sake at a reasonable rate, their dollar oysters were perfect. Hell, I ordered two dozen! They have a tasty soju lychee martini that was unexpectedly delectable. A little sweet for my taste, but I'd totally go back. It a great place to watch a Dodger game too! They're currently located on the third floor of the place and parking is free for 3 hours with validation. Park in the H-Mart parking lot! Fish and chips were yummy! I also ordered a seaweed salad that was perfect! Can't wait to go back!

Hit this place at happy hour. This place is basically a cross between a sports bar, seafood bar, tapas, izakaya, and small plate eats. Large menu of items to choose from for finger foods... Its not high end fancy dining but your tummy will thank you for stopping by. Loved loved loved the oysters and grilled asparagus.

Came here for the happy hour $1 oysters, 5pm-7pm daily. Was absolutely delicious. Also got the crab bisque, lobster roll and the Uni pasta, they were all very good, especially the pasta. Not for those who don't like the taste of sea urchin but if you like it, this pasta is for you. Will definitely recommend for a good night out with friends!

Can never go wrong at this awesome place. Their drinks are amazing. Cocktails and soju hello what a deal. The service is fantastic and welcoming. They all strive to work hard. Usually come here for their skewers specials atm they said it’s temp gone but will come back when the skewers come back on the menu cause my lord it’s so good. Had their zucchini fries with yogurt dipping as an appetizer it was great different experience and my best friend had their famous martinis she always gets there. Totally worth the investment to go out on a date brings friends and hang out with family. It’s warm all around with the heaters.

First time came to this place for the happy hour $1 oyster. It's fresh and delicious 😋. Tried their fried calamari appetizer, garlic pasta, uni pasta and chicken wings too. They're really good. Price wise are moderate high but definitely worth it. Will come back next time

Came here with 3 girlfriends on a Sunday afternoon. We came just as happy hours was starting, we were seated immediately. We got there at a perfect time because right as we were preparing to leave it got busy. The mango and berry lemonades were delicious & our server was very polite and prompt! The food was delicious! My Chilean bass was seasoned and cooked perfectly, it also comes with a house made cilantro & lemon sauce - AMAZING, yet so simple. I also got the garlic noodles, which was a huge serving that I couldn’t finish. My girlfriends enjoyed their shrimp fried rice, chicken wings, and lobster roll. They couldn’t finish their meals either, so we all had to go boxes. I got some green tea ice cream for dessert which was really good, it was drizzled with chocolate & had strawberries. My meal was about $60, but my girlfriends’ meals were no more than $40 (not including tip). Luckily they’ll be coming to the Southbay in the Del Amo so I can go more often!

Meh! Overrated! Over price! Ordered only a couple dishes, the night wasn't even busy, still they couldn't manage to run smoothly. Missed order, wrong order, had to repeat and waited over 30 minutes to have just 1 oyster shooter, which was ordered from the beginning? Do not get lobsters toll nor uni pasta either.
