The Best Restaurants in Williamsburg Right Now | Eater NY

"Not much has changed since Emily’s Pork Store and that’s precisely what’s great about it. The small sandwich shop still sells meats and cheeses by the pound, like it did when it opened in 1974, plus baked bread, jarred sauces, and anything else you’d need to throw an Italian dinner party. First time at the shop? Try the classic pork sandwich. It comes with provolone cheese, broccoli rabe, balsamic vinegar, and olive oil." - Eater Staff

Love the shop and the people (family?) running it are quite sweet. Italian hoagie good, but even better are the stuffed peppers and mozzarella salad. Gotta try the sausages next. Will be back

Google
My friend was like, “You wanna go to that Instagram sandwich spot across the street or hit the OG?” NO. QUESTION. The OG. And Emily’s SO IS. Pretty sure it’s family-owned and operated, and I swear I would’ve bought everything if I wasn’t just in town visiting. Great prices—and hands down the best Italian sandwich with hot peppers I’ve ever had. My mouth still waters thinking about that perfectly thin stack of delicious Italian cold cuts. And the hot pepper? HOT. SO GOOD. Like a pickled-roasted-hot situation with insane flavor. Don’t even get me started on the baguette—crispy outside, perfect bite, just… insane. I even bought a $10 T-shirt so I never forget the best sandwich of my life. Makes me want to move to NYC just to make this a regular stop. 🥹

Wherever you are in the city this place is worth the trip. Authentic Italian atmosphere. This delicatessen has all the essential ingredients for Italian cooking, the quality is outstanding and the prices are fair! My favorite part of living in this neighborhood.

Google
Delicious, fresh food made by awesome and super-friendly people! The roast pork sandwich w provolone, broccoli rabe, and balsamic is the best sandwich in Williamsburg. This is the kind of place that flat out doesnt exist in other US cities and were lucky to have them here!

Chelsea Riela

Google
The prosciutto stuffed peppers are divine! Mozzarella salad is incredible! I love the long hots on the Italian hoagie!

Avery Formato

Google
Easily the best chicken cutlet I’ve had in all of NYC. It tastes exactly like the way my grandma used to make them. I can’t believe it took me so long to try this spot out! Some of the best cold cuts too, the soppressata is one of the tastiest i’ve had. Beyond excited to keep coming back and have told everyone I know that they need to come here.

It's places like Emily's Pork Store that make New York City, that make Brooklyn, so special. Great people. Family owned. 50 years. Unbelievably authentic and passionate about doing things the right way. These guys provide the best of the best and not for some social media kick. It's so the neighborhood can enjoy the beautiful Italian culture and form a community around that. We gotta keep institutions like these around another 50 years! I ended up eating two sandwiches (splitting half of each with my buddy). First, I asked the gentleman behind the counter to whip up whatever type of sandwich he was feeling. Anything. He prepared a delicious chicken cutlet. The freshness was revitalizing. I went right back in after finishing it, and since the first sandwich was so good I wanted to try a second one. This time asking for a prosciutto sandwich specifically. I was especially in heaven eating that. I personally prefer pork based sandwiches, but you cant go wrong with anything here. Those spicy peppers though - cant beat em. Not acidic whatsoever. I wish my home smelled as good as this shop does. What a place.

Google
Came here for lunch one day and got a sandwich: hot soppressata, hot peppers, mozzarella and oil & balsamic vinegar. Very delicious! If you aren’t sure what to order, you can also ask what they recommend with your chosen meat.
google avatar

Yelp
If you come here for anything, come for the cold cuts that are ALL imported! You won't find any Boar's Head junk here! This place has some real deal stuff, and you will more than likely buy more than what you originally ordered. If you are like me, and you eat with your eyes, you will easily spend over $50 on your first visit and all visits to come. Since I work close to hear, I usually call in my cold cut order and come to pick up in the afternoon. Be prepared to wait if you walk-in, as people usually stock up on all their Italian specialty favorites. From pasta to sausage, to candy to appetizers for your weekend get-together. The walls are littered with pictures and memories of years past and make great use of your waiting time by taking a peak at it all. This is a neighborhood staple that isn't going anywhere!

Yelp
it's so good. Reasonable priced Italian staples. Great olive oil selection. Fresh baked and antipasto buffet by the lb. Great cheeses. Cheap pasta.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is Special! Family owned for generations. The current owner Jerry is the nicest guy and very good with recommendations and always offers a small taste of anything you're wondering about. Highly recommend the house made sausages and cheese- just great. New favorite Italian market.
google avatar

Ryan H.

Yelp
Delicious chicken cutlet sandwich, you hand them the bread and they make it right then and there. Didn't even have to tell the guy what I wanted on there, he hooked me up with the fresh mozzarella and roasted red peppers.
google avatar

Trey F.

Yelp
The BEST Italian sausage. This place is great! Affordable, fresh, and most importantly... absolutely delicious. Just made a little meat sauce with a blend of fennel and hot Italian sausages. Oooo mama! My taste buds are having a fiesta!
google avatar

Minako G.

Yelp
Such a gem! My first time visiting them was last week, met the owner Jerry, a great guy loved by his loyal customers with whom I enjoyed our chat and I got their fantastic homemade sausages (spicy and fennel). I came back for my lunch I tried their Italian hero he made for me - so good! Homemade sweet peppers were so juicy and meaty, mozzarella was so fresh and fluffy, generous amount of the perfectly cured meat, and the fresh bread! Thank you Jerry!! I also love this neighborhood - people are so easy-going, friendly, great mix of cool old-school shops and hipster modern shops.
google avatar

Tim C.

Yelp
A wonderful neighborhood butcher that sells the most incredible sausages, pork cutlets and fresh mozzarella cheese. Just a gem. I frequented this place when I lived in BK back in 02 and 20 years later it's still incredible. Wish we have one is LA
google avatar

Vassili S.

Yelp
Delicious and fresh, exceeded my expectations and hit the spot. Can't believe I live here for years and this is my first time at this gem

Ed B.

Yelp
If you want go somewhere for a great sandwich, friendly people and support a small, family-run business then Emily's Pork store is the place. We visit NYC every few years and seek out the non-commercial places for a more authentic experience and a visit to Emily's did not disappoint. In fact it was one of the best parts of our trip this time out. It is very small and there is no seating but that is the beauty of these old, but enduring deli/meat stores! There isn't even a menu because guess what? They will make you whatever you want or can imagine! Be creative and ask! Then, take your sandwich and an Italian cola and walk a couple of blocks down the street to a small park, sit in the shade and enjoy watching every day life in an old, but nice, safe neighborhood. It would be nice if they got a couple of small round tables with a few chairs out front, but just my thoughts and, regardless, we will go back again. These folks have been there for more than 50 years and could not have been more genuine, friendly and helpful. Serving up awesome, authentic Italian sandwiches with great customer service, Emily's is the place to go. If I lived here I would shop there for the large variety of authentic meats and cheeses as well as other Italian products that you won't find most places.
google avatar

Lana A.

Yelp
Oh my god. We typically go to Anthony & Sons across the street, put if you want a classic sandwich - this is the spot. The sandwich was out of this world. And the people who work there, have always been there and are so polite!
google avatar

Chunjai K.

Yelp
Im here again for Soppressata and this time I buy artichokes as well. I love to buy something authentic from a local store. It is homemade and taste good.
google avatar

Brian S.

Yelp
Roast pork sandwich is amazing - best sandwich I've had in NY. Great vibe in the store and the guys behind the counter are super nice and helpful

Danzy B.

Yelp
There's not much I could say to change its reputation, but why would I want to? I had the Italian combo for the first time. Bread - amazing. Meats phenomenal. Cheese - you get the gist. Soft, fresh, flavorful. Zero regrets.
google avatar

Larry A.

Yelp
Was working in the area, wanted a real sandwich. Sweet soppressata and cappicolla with sharp provolone fit the bill perfectly! Wound up leaving with 2 beef bracciole, a pork skins bracciole, sweet Italian sausage w/ fennel, a pound of garlic and basil lamb sausage! All made fresh on the premise! Hot specials were also available. Next time... Many items meats and cheeses I still want to try. What a gem.
google avatar

Nir K.

Yelp
This just answers everything I want to eat! A nice sandwich for lunch and everything I need in order to make a good Italian dinner at home!
google avatar

Lenny K.

Yelp
You walk in and it doesn't look like much. It looks kind of cramped. Fact is that it is cramped. Appearances are very deceiving. Jerry carries everything. And if you're not sure what you want, he let you sample. Or at least he let me sample. The meats, cheeses, the pasta are all out of this world. I am pretty sure that he carries products that you can't find anyplace else Or would have a very hard time finding any place else.Plus he's a big-time baseball fan.
google avatar

Paulina L.

Yelp
Just go. Get sandwiches in semolina bread. - broccoli rabe, italian with spicy peppers. Tip generously. Get transported in this old school ny staple
google avatar

Charlotte T.

Yelp
Literslly the best sandwich I've ever had. Prosciutto mozzarella spicy pepper and vinegar on a sub. I heated it up in the microwave and wow.
google avatar

Max C.

Yelp
Great vibe and staff here. But the sandwiches were a huge disappointment. Super overpriced and mediocre. Most bodegas do better. Which is mind blowing, but sadly, a fact.
google avatar

Caleb M.

Yelp
Grab the skinny bread. Give it to the guys. Say "Roast Pork, Sweet Peppers, Mozz, Oil & Balsamic". Boom!
google avatar

Victor P.

Yelp
I'm real happy I found this place, I live in long island city and its a few minutes away. I came looking for some good dry sausage and sharp cheese I walked in and saw everything I need in pork store all the stuff I grew up with was here. The owner behind the counter is a good guy. We ended up buyin lots of great cheeses and sausages and other italian delicacies and of course two combo Hero's to go, that was the best part of the visit!
google avatar

Steven L.

Yelp
Graham Avenue Meats, Lorimer Market, Emily's Pork Store, it's so hard to choose - I wish that Los Angeles had a Italian deli half as good as any of the deli's within a block radius of here. On my last visit to the Pork Store, roasted red peppers where just exiting the oven, yumm. Prosciutto, salami, cheese, Yum Yum Yum.
google avatar

Michael P.

Yelp
If I could give Emily's a 10, I would. This place could be called The Charcutterie Center. They have the choicest cured meats and Italian cheese. I like their namesake pork as well, but I'm partial to their fresh Italian pastas and authentic Italian sausages -- the fennel is a must. They also have random treats, like occasional fried fish filets, prosciutto balls and anything your Italian heart desires.
google avatar

Sarah M.

Yelp
Feels like yr transported to italy here. Super affordable super quality super delicious foods. Got the: Truffle burrata ($4!) Homemade fennel sausage Roasted spicy peppers Kalamata olives Made a lovely pasta. Will be going back to try everything else.

Soggy S.

Yelp
Man this guy working at the register was really sweet like candy. I had pork with provolone and hot peppers and it tasted like if you took a hot dump at your rich friends house. It was the best thing I have put in my mouth aside from a sausage. He had a great selection of food and MEAT. I really enjoyed the service, it made me tingle. I had bought a vast majority of MEATS at the store and I like his food. Overall great service and would 10/10 recommend going to this place. This bald cutie had it going on with food and I really enjoyed what he had to display. Food was amazing a real authentic pork store. Thank you and tinckle after drinking water
google avatar

James P.

Yelp
Sweet baby Jesus! Best sandwich in town. I like to ask the guys at the counter to make me something good, and they never disappoint.

Thomas M.

Yelp
I went here today based upon a recommendation ( I live in Suffolk County) and they were RIGHT!! This place is fantastic. It makes me feel like I did 63 years ago when I lived in the Neighborhood (Union Ave.). Walking into this store brought back many old memories of shopping with my Mother and Grandmother on Grand Street. The only thing missing is sawdust on the floor. The food was fresh and they made some of the sausage while I was waiting for it. I told the owner I'll be back to shop for my Christmas Dinner !!! This beats having supermarket sausage at my July 4th barbeque.

Yelp
Drinking Game: Take a shot every time I mention "Pork" in this review. *Sniff sniff* "You smell like pork." After a spontaneous trip to Emily's Pork Store we both did. I had been aching to visit the shop since visiting Motorino (they use pork products from this joint). Walking in was like traveling through time. It's a Brooklyn that I had thought was pretty much gone from the area. An ancient gentleman and a much younger man were behind the counter (I am 99% sure they are related), and behind them were yellowing, curling photographs from earlier days. Shirtless men flexing, pictures of people with pork, baby photos. It felt homey. The store is small, but it's packed with fresh Italian delicacies and a ton of imported goods. There were at least 20 different cheeses, aged and fresh. 4 kinds of fresh mozzarella that day (smoked, unsalted, salted celigne, and marinated celigne) all for just $5.99/lb. The Broccoli Rabe pork sausage that I was visiting for was also $5.99/lb. While the mozzarella wasn't AMAZING, the sausage was, and I really can't complain. It's a pork store, not a cheese store. For my next visit I plan on buying some of their fresh pappardelle...perhaps I will serve it with a pork ragout!

Yelp
C'MON SON* The spicy italian combo here (a bargain at $7.50) leaves an amazing tingle on the lips, making it easy to forget the seemingly infinite line encountered on a weekend midday visit here. The great bread is from Aliperti's cousin at Napoli Bakery down Metropolitan. It's mostly older locals, with a slow-moving line and some sneaky regulars, trying to get to the front and pretending conversational welcomes to the staff are ways to game the queue, but that's all part of the charm. The Boar's Head sign was initially disheartening, but don't worry...& yes, they take CCs, the locals just don't use 'em (it comes up as ALIPERTI PORK STORE on CC). *YOU KNOW THAT'S RIGHT. "Walk into Emily's Pork Store in the historically Italian neighborhood of East Williamsburg, and you're likely to find owner Gennaro "Jerry" Aliperti playing butcher, sandwich composer, and jokester to customers and friends. Emily's is a true locals' place -- Aliperti says about 85 percent of his business comes from regulars. This is a specialty store from another time, and it remains committed to old traditions and high standards. Aliperti's uncle Frank opened the shop in 1974, naming it after his wife. When Aliperti began working here at age thirteen, his first job was stocking the wooden shelves with canned Italian products. He soon learned to make sausages and to butcher. This is still a neighborhood meeting place, and you'll hear lightning-fast Italian spoken as you scan a menu that has changed very little over 41 years. Here's a helpful hint: Emily's makes the best Italian sandwiches in Brooklyn. Choose one of two bread selections -- both made by Aliperti's cousin at Napoli Bakery just down the street on Metropolitan Avenue -- from a center shelf and hand it to Aliperti. Regulars do this as soon as they enter the shop, and they always choose (correctly) the crusty French-style baguette over the thicker sub-style roll. Skip the rudimentary sandwich board and take a few minutes to peruse the specialty cheeses and meats. Once you've ogled the soppressata, mortadella, prosciutto cotto, and wine-soaked umbriaco, get Aliperti's seasoned opinion on what's best and just go for it. Perhaps it's the house-made salami, ham, and provolone with fresh roasted sweet peppers, or the sliced rare roast beef, made fresh daily, with jus and marinated peppers. Or you might like some fresh roast pork and maybe a little bresaola (top round that has been salted and dried) with Jerry's homemade mozzarella. Everything is sliced to order, and everything is priced far below the New York mean."
google avatar

Joelle M.

Yelp
Excellent selection of marinated HOMEMADE goodies - olives, mozzarella... oh my. Not to mention the barrels of dried beans for less than $1/lb. Biggest Awesome Points? One time, the Number One and I needed a small chunk of pancetta, and the butcher just GAVE it to us - didn't charge us a cent!
google avatar

Caroline L.

Yelp
My various standby Italian recipes (sausage & peppers, pappardelle with sausage ragu, lasagna, etc.) are nothing without the sweet fennel and hot sausages from Emily's. Also, burrata. BURRATA! I LOVE BURRATA! And, they have it. If you go early on a Saturday and see the loaf of bread with the prosciutto bread (I affectionately refer to as piggie bread), grab one. They will not be there later in the day. They will probably still be warm. Eat it. So. yummy. When I lived in Chelsea, I used to go to Buon Italia all the time inside Chelsea Market. I have found a new home in Williamsburg (that is significantly cheaper) with fantastic products.

J M.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing!! Their Italian combo sandwich is to die for!!! We bought ground beef and sausage to make for meatballs today - I can never eat ground beef from the grocery store again after Emily's. Best flavor ever! Highly, highly recommend!!!
google avatar

Marissa S.

Yelp
One of the reasons I like Williamsburg and miss the fact that my bf doesn't live there anymore. 1) the store smells delicious - maybe that's because I'm an Italian girl who was raised in a bakery in Bensonhurst or maybe because it just smells delicious 2) great selection of Italian ingredients and brands that you cannot find in your local grocery store, or even most supermarket chains for that matter. Big selection of cheeses. I could come into this store stuffed and walk out drooling. 3) fresh, delicious pork. My bf got a few cuts of meat from here and made pulled pork that was out of this world and a very big hit at a bbq I would definitely take the trip out to Williamsburg to visit this pork store.
google avatar

Liz B.

Yelp
I go in here quite a bit, sometimes just to look around. It's that kind of place. I'll get everything I need to make tiramisu, fresh and dried meats, cheeses, pasta, as well as cheese curds to make my own mozzarella at home. The owner and rest of the staff is super nice and helpful - they even delivered something I needed when I was running late and couldn't get to the store. I love that there are still old-school joints like this around and am so glad I found it. I can't wait to try the Burrata!
google avatar

Jillian N.

Yelp
Great quality, friendly staff, and authentic Italian cuisine. Emily's Pork Store is one of my favorite places to go when I'm preparing an authentic Italian dinner. Whether you're shopping for homemade sausage (delish!) or fresh Burrata (I was educated on this cheesy delicacy), you will not be dissapointed. Be sure to try their seafood salad. Unreal!
google avatar

Maher K.

Yelp
Best. Damn. Deli. My go to butcher for years, great quality cuts of every protein desired and accepts cards! The house made cheeses, olives, sausages & peppers are amazing. Emily's owners are extremely friendly and great NY sports fans as well (jets & mets newspaper clippings line the walls).
google avatar

Miguel C.

Yelp
Great sausages, Impeccable steaks and pork chops. A local favorite. Great service and courteous too. They will take good care of you, and you will come back for more. Great Prices.
google avatar

Kenny Y.

Yelp
The Barata is the ice cream of cheeses. One nice pear, one nice apple sliced. Open the Barata out of its special package and cut it in half. Save the licquid put it on 2 plates with your favorite beer or wine and have dinner. Dinner in heaven that is. Wonderful place to start any fine cooking.
google avatar

Patrick W.

Yelp
This East Williamsburg gem boasts some of the best Italian specialty cuts in the area. They have hand tied braciole for your Sunday Gravy, delicious sweet and hot sausages for the grill, beautiful house made antipastas, a wide variety of imported cheese and homemade burrata, and a good selection of Italian pastas and jarred sauces. My favorite things about this place are the house hot roast pork sandwiches with their homemade roasted peppers, and that they got me in the habit of keeping a hot soppressata hanging in my kitchen at all times.
google avatar

Michael C.

Yelp
I picked up a pig skin braciole and a few pounds of sausage for my sauce. It made all the difference in the world. Such a good sausage! I gotta go back and try some of their other meats, cheeses, and maybe some of these sandwiches I'm reading about. I was only in there for a few minutes but I worked up such an appetite, the place smells so good I didn't want to leave. And I'm not going anywhere else for sausage from now on.

Tom N.

Yelp
Hands down the sandwich I've had in Brooklyn. Italian Combo and the Roast Pork are out of this world. This place is a gem.

Nikki L.

Yelp
I love this mom and pop shop, this is what makes our area unique. I usually get their sausages for my pasta or BBQ. Owner is super nice. They have been around for 44 years, I hope they stay in business forever.
google avatar

Max U.

Yelp
Neighborhood staple! Emily's combines friendly old-school flavor (including super friendly service) with some of the best important Italian goods in Williamsburg. Prices are also extremely reasonable (especially for their delicious marinated sweet and spicy peppers!) and their huge freshly made sandwiches. Here's hoping Emily's stays around for years to come!

Edward M.

Yelp
My favorite. The owner Jerry is a really good dude.... haven't gotten a single thing from here I didn't like, and make sure to get an Italian combo sandwich... possibly my favorite sandwich of all time.... and I really like sandwich's.
google avatar

Brian G.

Yelp
Try a sopressata sandwich w/fresh mozzarella, roasted peppers, oil & vinegar. Unbeatable. I've tried other places in the hood. No comparison. Especially in the bread,Cheese,& roasted peppers.
google avatar

Tim M.

Yelp
Awesome sandwich! Anytime I go to these meat shops I have the guys working just make me a special sandwich. This has hot soppresatte, capicolla, sharp provolone and some other fixins. Bomb. I'll be back.
google avatar

Cadwumpus R.

Yelp
Amazing place - you'll discover something you never knew you loved on your 3rd visit - most everything special is not on the surface. My household keeps the roasted sweet peppers as a staple. Incredible roast beef. They'll butterfly a chicken for you however you prefer. I could go on ... Just go feel it out. Oh, but the sandwiches !!
google avatar

Joe M.

Yelp
Here's some goodies I've tried and liked here. Imported provolone, grated pecorino romano, bracciole, pinwheel steak, sweet suppressata, kalamata olives, artichoke salad, sweet sausage, and baby back ribs. I want to try a few more of there pork products before I give them a 5th star. Great service.

P T.

Yelp
The BEST mozzarella, taralli, prepared foods. Love the place. You walk and it smells so so good.
