The Best Restaurants for Big Group Dinners in Seattle | Eater Seattle

"With swathes of spongy injera serving as base and scoop for saucy dishes like lentil-rich misir wot and ybeg tibs nech (marinated lamb, onions, garlic, tomato), Ethiopian cuisine like that of Enat Ethiopian Restaurant in the Northgate area is a go-to for group feasts. Expect a spacious dining room, affordable prices, and truly enormous portions — two orders can easily fill five adults. Enat is also known for its gluten-free and vegetarian options (you can even get a gluten-free vegetarian combo)." - Harry Cheadle

The 13 Best Ethiopian Restaurants In Seattle

"In Amharic, the word “enat” translates to “mother,” and Enat leans into the concept of serving the kind of food your mom would make. If it’s your first time trying Ethiopian food, start with a vegetable combo or just order atkilt wot for a satisfying mix of cabbage, potatoes, and carrots in a garlicky turmeric rub. If you're still hungry, go with the doro wot, a spicy chicken stew that gets its deep flavor from slow-caramelized onions, a generous heap of berbere, and a lot of cooking time. Doro wot is best enjoyed with friends, so invite some people you like for a meal in the perpetually busy dining room and tell them to come hungry." - lidiya belete, aimee rizzo, kayla sager riley

Google
Enat serves a huge portion of food for a great price and are generous with the injera. Even the gluten free injera! They served 3 pieces with a combo (not including the one on the plate, 4 total) and it was $24! This place is arguably one of the best food values in Seattle. You can easily feed 3 people on a single combo. The combo quality was okay, the meat was kind of tough and dry but well flavored. There are two portions of cabbage+potato, a spinach and a romaine salad. Had a side of shiro wot was good. They serve gluten free injera on request! It seemed fresh and was good. It’s the best Ethiopian restaurant for getting gluten free. There was no up-charge for us but not sure if that was the norm. The service was quick and friendly. They take Apple Pay.

Laura

Google
Great food. We always end up getting a combo since it feeds both of us and we get a variety of dishes :)

Google
Went there again - food was still great so does their service - I also do like their tea quite a lot. Best Ethiopia food so far in Seattle, huge portions and great owner, they recommended to order less than ask you to order more, which turns out we had quite a left over. Great service as well

Jo Clancy

Google
We ordered a veggie combo and a meat combo. Everything was very good.

Google
Amazing food and service. I would highly recommend the #1 and #9 if its your first time. Everything has great flavor and comes out pretty quick.

Google
Enat is delicious! The staff is very friendly and kind the food was delicious. My partner and I had only had Ethiopian food a handful of times previously and they make it easy to try a bunch of different things at one with their vegetarian platter which comes with a generous amount of injera and more than enough for two people to share!

Google
Delicious food! I’m not an avid Ethiopian eater so I have no point of reference there, but the food was delicious, fresh, and great portions for prices. My husband and I split the Enat combination and had plenty of leftovers! The service was also really good 😁 I would eat here again.

Google
I love Ethiopian food and culture. I was literally treated like family and I will definitely stop by again whenever I’m in the area. The food was wonderful, I got the vegetarian combo platter with the fish, a coffee, and injera. They definitely fried the whole fish, so beware of bones! They even had French fries and lemonade for my daughter. This was such a wonderful impromptu birthday celebration that consisted of just me and my kids randomly stopping thru for lunch. The owners and waitress were so welcoming and sweet, bless their heart.

Yelp
I give this restaurant a 3, because the food was spectacular, although our server was really rude, and forced us out the second it turned 9pm.

Yelp
Enat is a terrific way to get into Ethiopian food. We came here based on a recommendation and it does not disappoint. The ambiance is really nice and friendly, and there's plenty of seating. This place deserves more customers. If you're new to Ethiopian food, try the Enat combination and 1-3 sambusa with lentils. It's a huge meal for a great price, and a fantastic sample of Ethiopian cuisine. We have come here and ordered takeout a half-dozen times in the last year. Well worth bringing friends and family.

Yelp
We stopped by Enat Ethiopian Restaurant on a Saturday around 3:30 pm for a late lunch. I had bookmarked this spot earlier, but after one of our Uber drivers raved about it, we made it a priority to dine here before flying home--and I'm so glad we did. We ordered the Yebere Siga Tips (#9) and Green Chicken (#15) based on our waitress' recommendation, and I chose the Enat Combination (#13) after seeing it in some Yelp photos. The Highly recommend #13--it's a great sampler that includes 3 beef dishes (like #9) and a variety of veggie sides, perfect for first-timers or anyone who wants to try a bit of everything. The food was delicious! The beef was a bit tough though. Portions are large and one order can easily be shared. If you're new to Ethiopian food, the best way I can describe it is to say many of the dishes are stewed, hearty, and comforting--flavors that feel familiar, like home-cooked meals. Ethiopian food somehow reminds me of Asian food, eaten with injera bread instead of rice. Injera bread is a fermented pancake-like flat bread which we happily tore up to dip, scoop, and grab. We were the only guests when we arrived, but by 4:30 pm the restaurant became very busy. A wonderful experience overall. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

Yelp
Really liked it. I am completely inexperienced in Ethiopian cuisine...I've eaten it once or twice but I know very little about the dishes. My son was taking me out for Father's Day- his first time paying for a meal out- which is cool. We ordered by instinct and I'm not going to be able to tell you what I ordered but we got one dish that was a variety of things on injera bread, and another dish that was beef or lamb and greens. I got an Ethiopian beer and my son got a drink that was just mango. We got too much food: a result of not knowing how to order. We were very well fed and the plate that had a variety of items was preferred by both of us. The service was good. Very friendly, fairly quick. They did not walk us through ordering but we also didn't ask for help but rather just dove in. It feels like it's being run by a family. The ambience is nothing special really. Ethiopian cultural decor, a big-ass tv in the corner playing soccer...whatever...you won't go here because it's 'fancy' you'll go here because you want really great Ethiopian food at a reasonable price. For $50+tip (thanks son!) you'll leave well fed. I'd recommend this place and will be back.

Yelp
I went here with a friend last night. I had to go looking for my own menus when they were not brought to us within a few minutes of arriving. The food was delicious. I especially like the dish with the cabbage, and potatoes. The environment is a little distracting, with television on and so much artwork. It's almost overwhelming. The sun coming through the window in the late afternoon was also a little bit much. The server forgot to bring the coffee my friend asked for, but at least we weren't charged for it.

Yelp
I love Enat Ethiopian! The food comes out relatively quickly, the food is absolutely tasty, and they give you a mountain of a meal. There is nothing not to like about it. The servers are friendly too.

Yelp
This hit the spot, I had to come back two days in a row. It's not close to my house or I'd probably be there everyday.

Yelp
I absolutely love this restaurant. I wish I lived closer, I'd eat here regularly if I could. I always get the Enat combo, it's two meals worth of food, generous portion, I have a full meal of leftovers every time I get it. The injera is so tangy, spongy, and delicious, and you get plenty, I think it's the best injera I've ever had. The meats and sides are flavorful. I love it, I'd give it 6 stars if I could.

Yelp
I've only ordered takeout from this place, but the inside has comfortable lighting. Food was ready when i arrived and staff were friendly. But let's skip all that BS. All I'm really interested is the food. I grabbed the veggie combo and doro wat. The veggie platter was huge as I've come to expect with local Ethiopian/Eritrean restaurants. The veggies are well seasoned and a nice spice to the beans. The doro way is very well spiced. Actually spicy in a way that it seems many restaurants simply fail at. The spicing is balanced, and with a great kick. I highly recommend.

Yelp
Great Ethiopian food! Enat was recommended by a friend of mine and it is such a great restaurant that is locally owned. I love coming here with a group of friends and sharing the food together. I feel like when you eat here it is like eating with family as everyone is chatting and laughing while sharing a delicious plate of food. My favorite dish from Enat is the Enat Combination plate. I highly recommend if it is your first time and you don't know what to get. In addition to that plate, get a mango lassi! I would saying one plate would easily be enough for 2-3 people. The employees at Enat are extremely friendly and will treat you like family.

Yelp
Loved this place. Someone noted in the comments the meat in the comb was tuff. I would agree but thought it might be stylistic. Nice market beside the place. Will be back!

Yelp
Seattle is blessed with many Ethiopian gems. Enat didn't disappoint. I had the vegetarian platter. Everything was flavorful, well seasoned, and had a great mouthfeel. It's a very generous portion with three injera--leftovers for another meal and a half. Service was quick and pleasant, considering how crowded it was on a Friday night. Could it have been spicier? Yes... but that's me. I'll ask for spicy, and without a long explanation of why, I seldom get food with a good bite until I've been going there for a while. It's one of those places where people often move between tables, and there's a great community vibe. Give it a go, and don't ask for tableware ;)

Yelp
I have been going here for years. It is my go-to Ethiopian restaurant. I don't know why I never reviewed them before. The staff is friendly, the food is excellent, and I've never had a bad experience. If you are new to Ethiopian food, start with the Enat combo. It's a good cross section of both meat and vegetable dishes. It will serve two hungry people, with some left over. For a party of four, you might want to add another dish. Their injera is always fresh. The honey wine balances the flavors nicely. And please, remember that Ethiopian food is eaten by the hand with a bit of injera to hold the food. Don't complain that you have to ask for a fork if you are not willing to use your fingers.

Yelp
Just two of us and hence went for one soup - S9. Seafood Hotpot SPICY - Seafood hotpot with vegetables quite a lot for two and had to to-go the rest. Good service, good ambience and would recommend going to this place.

Yelp
Food and service is really good. Love to support small businesses that are welcoming, and when you know the food was made w love.
google avatar

Bonnie G.

Yelp
The food was colorful and tasty. I shared the combo that included 3 kinds of meat stew and a variety of vegetables. The injera tasted fresh and was a great texture. The meat stews had good flavor but lacked heat (as in spicy heat). My fav of the vegetables was the greens. The cabbage, potatoes, and carrots were cooked softly, a nice texture, but little flavor. The place was clean and comfortable and had some parking. If in the neighborhood, a great place for a reasonable meal.

Chyna R.

Yelp
The spices, sauces and flavors are ALWAYS on point and the meat is always tender. When dining in, it is always welcoming and feels like your ordering from family. I love the feel of the restaurant. And the staff is always so nice. Will always highly recommend!

Yelp
First dinner of our trip was to try Enat Ethiopian Restaurant. It's close to Loxicha Authentic Oaxacan Food and another Ethiopian spot, Ahadu Ethiopian Restaurant. We dropped in on a fairly busy Sunday evening (8:00pm). The inside is spacious with plenty of tables along with two TV's. Menu consists of 23 options along with a few side dishes, appetizers and desserts. Been to plenty of Ethiopian restaurants but this was the fastest we've ever been served. Food came out in 10 minutes. - Mango juice ($2.00 USD) - Enat combination (#13) ($20.79 USD) - meat and vegetable combo that comes with three massive portions of injera. Easily shared between two people or more. Injera had a slightly sour, fermented note. Our plate consisted of yellow split peas, beef, cabbage, marinated beef with onion, spicy beef stew, potato & carrot, spinach and salad. Best items were the cabbage and marinated beef with onion. The other two meats were dry and overcooked. Can't beat the portions and price at Enat. 3.5 stars.

Yelp
Quick service, delicious food with big portions, peaceful ambiance on a Thursday in the early evening. Shared between 3 very hungry people and Still had food leftover!
google avatar

Yelp
First time here and I would come back again! Service wasn't too busy and we sat down immediately. Tried the doro wat (chicken) and the yebeg tibs (lamb). Everything was amazing and they give a good amount of injera with the meal. Inside they had futbol games playing! I would 100% come back again

Yelp
This restaurant was exactly what I needed, especially on a day where it was 23F it was a respite from the harsh winds. The inside was very humbly decorated with simple seating and very kind staff. They even offered me nitrile gloves to try and warm my freezing cold hands. And the food was sooo comfy and good, exactly what I was looking for in a very reasonable price range. I was so happy and felt so lucky to find this place. It definitely makes me want to visit the area more often

Yelp
This place is awesome..... very casual homely atmosphere with fantastic dining. It's a happening place with a lots of people eating home style authentic Ethiopian food. We ordered a veggie platter and lamb dish Alicia flavor. You get a healthy dose of injera and I to tasted great. Quantity is plentiful and taste is exemplary Go give this place a go .... Its awesome

Yelp
Idk what happened to this place. It used to be so good and the owner and staffs were nice. Now the staff wasn't friendly and the food was terrible. Definitely won't return

Yelp
First time we dined in for some Authentic Ethiopian food! Wow! What an experience! Not sure what to order? Ask your server and she will recommend the best of the best options for you! We ordered 2 different kinds of platters. One vegan and one meaty platter. Everyone gets a plate of their own thin crepe-pancake (which tastes vinegary) like side where you rip off a piece and pinch your meat, veggie dish of choice with. The best dish we liked was the cabbage, potatoes and carrots dish! It was wonderful and definitely kept us wanting more. The few meat dishes were a bit on the chewer side, was hoping it to be more tender and softened.. flavor wise was good. We ordered a couple appetizers too, the meaty one was my favorite! The crispy texture of the wrapper is somewhat similar to a lumpia (Filipino appetizer). Overall food was great, friendly service, but not very clean. Tables and floors a bit dirty and the bathrooms...could see better days. Kind of takes away your appetite when you walk into a dirty bathroom. Yikes. This restaurant gets SUPER busy~ so you know the food is delicious!
google avatar

Jorie M.

Yelp
I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of my meal! My friend had never had Ethiopian food and I was proud to say I knew a place that was guaranteed to be delicious. The waitresses were kind and we got our food fast. (Not pictured due to excitement of eating), we also ordered the lentil and meat Sambusa's! Definitely worth a try if you've never had before. The portion of our meal was perfect for two people. It doesn't look like a ton but trust me, it was very filling, and so so flavorful! This hole in the wall restaurant is a must try! Please come and support! P.S. This meal was also nut free for anyone else who also has a tree nut allergy
google avatar

Yelp
Best Ethiopian food I've had so far! Very generous and tasty portions! Our favorites were the Veggie combo and Doro Wat.
google avatar

Drew B.

Yelp
I've been coming here for years after the pandemic started. I love this place. Service is quick and everything I've gotten so far is the bomb. The enat combo is my favorite thing to get, but I haven't tried much else outside of that. It's just that good to me. The sambusas are delicious and crispy, definitely get atleast 1 per person, I made the mistake of just ordering one and I regret not ordering more for takeout. It is a pretty low key restaurant. I'm not super familiar with Ethiopian food, but I like this place and I keep coming back and leaving very happy. Definitely gotta go find more restaurants because I've lived here awhile now and I have clearly been missing out

Josh L.

Yelp
I had the enat combo and while the vegetables were good, the beef was extremely tough. I told the waitress and she asked if I had had Ethiopian food before. I told her that I had and it was never that tough before.

Yelp
Green Chicken Lamb Very sweet friendly customer service Flavourful food Food portions large so bring your friends Diverse clientele all gathering for good grub Walkable from Northgate station - 15-20mins

Yelp
[UberEats pickup review] Craving Ethiopian but wanting to try a different place, Enat Ethiopian restaurant was recommended. With limited time in the area, I opted for a takeout order via UberEats. Now, sometimes ordering pickup through delivery apps can be a hit or a miss (restaurants may start the order too early or forget the order completely), but Enat nailed it. The food was still considerably warm when I got home, and ready by the time I walked in. Now, prices may differentiate from the actual menu but with UberEats (not including tax and tip): -Meat sambusa $3 each -Veggie combo $15 -Extra injera $1 The meat sambusa is pretty large, which helps with the cost per sambusa, but the meat is pretty dry inside. For me it wasn't an issue, since I combined it with the veggie combo but if you're not ordering a dish with some sort of sauce and eating the sambusa solo: have a drink or your own sauce ready. I'm not sure if it's normal or if they just made too much that day, but the extra injera ended up being 4 large pieces for $1. Lastly, the veggie combo was wrapped and tucked into the container which really helped with the commute home. I've had some unfortunate experiences with Ethiopian food where the sauce was overflowing and had soaked through the containers and/or bags by the time I arrived home. Crisis diverted in this case! I enjoyed the meal, and will definitely come back as it's one of the rare Ethiopian restaurants that offer sambusas.
google avatar

Valerie G.

Yelp
This is our go-to Ethiopian restaurant in the Northgate area. Really delicious and varied options. The veggie plate has lots of good stuff on it.

Kim ..

Yelp
Awesome service. I think she's the owner. Yummy food. This little gem in Lake City is a must try.
google avatar

Faith S.

Yelp
I've literally lost count of the number of years I've been coming here but if I were to guess, I'd say at least 20. This restaurant is soooooo good. If you love Habesha food, look no further! This spot is it! It's sooooooo flavorful & there's not a dish here that I have tried and not loved. My go to is the Enat combo which has a good mix of veggies and meat. Highly recommend for new visitors! You get a little taste of everything with this dish. Soooo yummy! Go! Wait no longer!
google avatar

Karen L.

Yelp
This has been our go to Ethiopian Restaurant. Parking is limited, but I have usually been able to find a spot. Service has always been very solid. Prices are very reasonable here. We usually get the Enat and Veggie Combos along with 1 different meat dish. You cannot get a bad meat dish here, but I have occasionally eaten undercooked lentils here. Flavors are always on point though. My favorite sides are usually the cabbage, salad and collards. I'll definitely keep coming. Give them a try!
google avatar

Tai D.

Yelp
I got the Enat Combination which is "a bit of everything," so a mix of meat and vegetable dishes. The portions are VERY generous and include 3 warm and spongey injera on the side. The food was ready quickly, which was great because I had quite an appetite! It seems that the combination will vary, but I believe that I got Yebeg tibs (marinated lamb), doro wot (chicken stew), beef tibs, potatoes/carrots, collard greens. Parking here was easy, which was a big plus! There's lots of dining space as well.

G G.

Yelp
Delicious vegan platter. Sometimes the food is inconsistent, heat-wise. Also if you order a side of potato carrot and cabbage, say all three or you will get just cabbage! Everyone is very nice there.
google avatar

Jay S.

Yelp
Amazing ethiopian food! Tried tibbs with Awaze. They also customised the order to make it more spicy.

Diana T.

Yelp
The food is amazing and the portion sizes are large. Service can be less than ideal sometimes, but I don't care about that as long as the food is good. And the ambience is quite nice.
google avatar

Lauren M.

Yelp
Our favorite Ethiopian in Seattle. Always very flavorful and generous portions! I get the veggie combo and can eat it for 2 to 3 meals.
google avatar

Marissa C.

Yelp
Food is soooo good and at a great price. The veggie platter is more then enough for 2 people. Service is quickly and employee are amazing. They have beautiful decore and plenty of setting. Parking is easy as well
google avatar

Matt B.

Yelp
Great quality Ethiopian food, including a top-notch veggie platter (vegan). I ordered their vegetarian combo ($15 plus tax) for lunch one day and it was ready 10 minutes later. You get an enormous portion of various dishes and injera that could feed at least 2 people (or a very large and famished individual). The misir wot was the stand-out -- it was actually spicy, unlike so many other places. The kik alicha (split pea) and collard greens were also very well-done. Everything was spiced beautifully. I was completely stuffed by the end. Overall, very good quality Ethiopian.
google avatar

Kati P.

Yelp
Always perfect! Generous portions and so much injera!!! We've been many times and Enat continues to be our favorite Ethiopian restaurant despite the long drive for us to get there!
google avatar

Rutuja J.

Yelp
Food is good, service is good as well. We always go here for Doro wot and it is delicious. I like that they only give salad on injera so it doesn't become soggy

Niki S.

Yelp
I have been going here for more than ten years. I love it. Injera is so good. I like to eat and order extra to take home.

velma v.

Yelp
I can't say enough about this place and how fantastic it is. I have eaten Ethiopian food all over the country and all over Seattle and this is my favorite place by far. The staff could not be nicer if they tried and the food is delicious. It isn't spicy which I do like, but I have friends who like spicier food and think it is, not spicy enough for them. All the flavors are there though and everything is so fresh. I really doubt anyone could go here and not have a great experience.
google avatar

Michael N.

Yelp
This is hands down the best Ethiopian restaurant I have ever been to! The food is very affordable and the customer service is impeccable! They are all so kind and since I come so often they even greet me with a hug and treat me like family :) I've even went here for my past two birthdays I just love it so much!
google avatar

Sharky M.

Yelp
Authentic, big portions and always friendly servers. Our go to in north Seattle for Ethiopian!
google avatar

Ken Z.

Yelp
I bought some traditional gluten free injera there this week and it was amazing. This restaurant is consistently good and a friendly place.
google avatar

Jennifer C.

Yelp
My favorite local spot for Ethiopian food! First time I ordered this was on a food delivery app which included many fees. I'd recommend calling for takeout if possible to reduce costs. My go to is the Enat combination platter and veggie platter. Today I decided to try the spiced meat one and loved it! So delicious and filling, definitely worth the price. One platter can last me anywhere from 2-3 meals and costs anywhere from $13-$16. All platters also come with additional injera and I use the extras as wraps for other leftovers in my fridge. I also love the slight sour flavor of the injera. Located in a suburban area, parking is always available and easy to find. Overall thoughts: good food and portions for the value, many spices and flavors, vegetarian option is delicious coming from a non-vegetarian. So much bang for your buck here. If you're trying Ethiopian food for the first time - this place is on the more affordable side and offers a lot of variety too!
