The expansive POPOS in the atrium lobby of 222 Second Street completely dwarfs the coffee counter here, but it's Equator coffee so chill, will ya? If you didn't know, POPOS is an acronym for privately-owned public open space. I was meeting Jamie W. here after work but didn't know what kind of space awaited since I don't work in the FiDi right now. I knew LinkedIn was in the building because of all the youngsters on the couches staring intently at their smartphones in that part of the lobby. I don't think there was a single case of mutual eye contact among them. There weren't too many people in the actual public space, just a few laptoppers.
The long tables were pretty vacant, so it was the ideal time to order a $3 Iced Rooibos Chai Tea (photo: http://bit.ly/2vmCCUM) and enjoy the trio of massive Frank Stella paintings: "The Pequod Meets the Delight" (photo: http://bit.ly/2vh8ryG), "Riallaro" (photo: http://bit.ly/2w57DdE), and right next to the cafe, "Shards III" (photo: http://bit.ly/2vs4cRq). You can also enjoy Equator's diverse collection of coffees and loose leaf teas (photo: http://bit.ly/2vrNDF2). They even have beer and wine cans as well as a predictable assortment of food: sandwiches, quiches, and salads. Plenty of nourishment for your average tech geek. Sit a spell, grasshopper.
