Erewhon Santa Monica Shuttered by LA Health Department for Cockroach Infestation | Eater LA

"On April 8, 2025, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health found a "major" violation at the Santa Monica Wilshire Boulevard location; the inspection report was first reported by Curbed and also surfaced overnight in a Reddit thread. The inspection specifically noted a cockroach found in the tonic bar, and the store told Curbed that it "immediately took action" and expected the health department to re-inspect soon so the tonic bar could reopen. A follow-up statement to Eater LA said the store "sincerely apologizes" for the lapse in standards and that the health and safety of customers is a "top priority," noting weekly pest-control visits and that the tonic bar was voluntarily closed after the inspection. The April 8 report also listed other violations, including a minor violation for "Time as a Public Health Control" (when food is left outside proper storage/temperature for more than four hours or when a written procedure has not been maintained), plus plumbing issues, unclean non-food-contact surfaces, and inadequate ventilation or lighting. As of April 10, 2025 the location remained open; the health department completed a re-inspection and the tonic bar was reported open as of 2:45 p.m. The store is described as a health grocery/luxury shopping experience known for celebrity clientele, organic produce, and high-priced smoothies — including a $20 Hailey Bieber Strawberry Glaze Skin smoothie — and recent celebrity collaborations with names such as Sabrina Carpenter, Lalisa Manobal, and Nara Smith (with other signature drinks like one featuring colostrum)." - Rebecca Roland

Every Erewhon Los Angeles Location, Ranked - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"The perks of the Santa Monica Erewhon are limited to comic relief and impressing your little cousin from Dallas who wants to be a content creator when they grow up. Bella Hadid once made her namesake smoothie here and signed a stack of cup sleeves for eager 19-year-olds. These days, influencers lurk in every corner, scouting the aisles for mutuals and forcing their yorkies to eat $20 tuna rolls. Don’t come here for groceries—the small parking lot stays chaotic and you’ll have to navigate a sea of blue checkmarks just to make it through the produce section. Unless you'd like to panic-buy a $40 jar of sea moss gel, you're better off skipping this one." - brant cox, nikko duren, sylvio martins

"From organic produce to the juice bar, prepared foods, wheat, gluten and dairy-free treats, a salad bar, sushi and so much more, this market is a wonderful place for groceries or to have a healthy lunch or dinner. Seating consists of tables outside, so go on a nice day if you’re eating in. There’s another location just off Abbot Kinney in Venice, plus outposts in West Hollywood and Calabasas."

It's a very nice high end supermarket, but I don't think I will return. The smoothies were good, but nothing to brag about. Very nice shopping experience and very clean. The smoothies did take some time to make, but the atmosphere in the dine-in area was nice. It is definitely a market to check out if you're in the area.

Cannot speak of Erewhon as a grocery store or of the food they cook. I didn’t end up getting any groceries from here, it is too expensive for me. I honestly don’t know why some people leave bad reviews here only complaining about high prices, I think they should know where they go. Anyway, this star rating and review only for Hailey Bieber smoothie that costs $20: Do I like how It tasted? YES Was it worth the price? NO For me it tasted like something that I can make easily at home but I am not a smoothie expert though. So I am glad I tried it but probably won’t buy it ever again. The store itself looks very fancy though. It is beautiful inside, well stocked and very clean. I liked it. All the food looked just great. Maybe one day I will save some money and will buy a pack of pasta…

Google
Super trendy but SUPER expensive grocery store. It’s almost so expensive its comical. I don’t know how people afford to go here regularly! Being able to shop at this grocery store must be a status symbol. We got a $20 smoothie, coffee, and some sushi, which was delicious.

Google
This is a one of a kind grocery store, I've never seen anything like it. It has a lot of incredibly expensive products that are almost 3x as much as they are at Ralph's. It also has some very unique products like hemp milk, sea moss, or wagyu beef. Really high end place, definitely not for the average shopper. The staff was plentiful and very nice. They also have a smoothie, coffee, lunch place that is equally as expensive as their groceries.

Emma

Google
Over-the-top expensive! The staff is very couteous, and seem genuinely happy to provide top notch customer service. As you walk in, you are immediately greeted by door staff, maybe security guards in disguise, at the entrance. At least, that's what it seems like at the Santa Monica location on Wilshire. Note: If you haven't been to the area, be advised that there are many, many homeless and mentally unstable people living on the streets in and around Santa Monica. At checkout, you will be presented with a membership offer of $200 or $100 per year, which is not required.

Google
Traumatizing Experience at Erewhon I just had an incredibly upsetting and traumatic experience at this Erewhon location. While shopping, I was repeatedly followed and monitored by a security guard in a way that felt deeply invasive and inappropriate. We made eye contact in three separate areas of the store. It was clear I was being targeted for no valid reason. I approached the manager for support, hoping for some professionalism and accountability, but was met with indifference. There was no effort to deescalate or acknowledge the situation. As a person of color, I am urging others to be aware. This kind of treatment can happen even in so-called premium spaces. And let me be clear. No one should pay these high prices to be made to feel watched, unwelcome, or profiled. This was not just disappointing. It was humiliating.

Google
I've been to 3 other erewhon locations and this one is by far my least favorite. The service here is always terrible. The workers don't want to be here, at all. I've waited a year to retry this location, and again, an entire year later, another bad experience. The only workers I interacted with today were the ones running the hot bar & the cashier. I understand the place is busy, but you don't need to rush anyone. You have multiple different food options, it's okay for someone to think for 20 seconds about what side they want. 2 stars because my food was good, and the store was set up beautifully & perfectly organized as always. Erewhon can be an overwhelming environment, but that doesn't mean it has to be stressful or rushed. Every other location I have been to has demonstrated a controlled & relaxed environment. Don't think I will return since I'm always met with this unfortunate service. As for the other Erewhon locations, they have all been extremely pleasant and kind. So thank you to all of them!

Google
Erewhon in Santa Monica is a paradise for health-conscious shoppers! They offer a wide range of organic, high-quality foods, plus the famous Hailey Bieber Strawberry Glaze Skin Smoothie. I also tried the Apple Pie, and it was absolutely amazing—perfectly spiced and delicious. A must-visit for healthy eats!

Yelp
If you haven't heard of Erewhon yet you may be living under a rock. Erewhon is so on brand with a certain LA stereotype, haling itself as the grocery designer store. Forget keeping up with the Joneses; we're here to clobber them. Not many grocery store experiences start with the valet in the parking lot. The parking lot at this location is especially tiny so you may see a line forming out on the street. You'll be forgiven if you confuse it for a car show or the drop off at The Beverly Hills hotel as the lot will be filled with G Wagons, Range Rovers, and Teslas. Anyways, you go inside and you are transported into a different world. The smell of a higher tax bracket is in the air, mixed with candles of unicorns and aura crystals. Jokes aside, at least this location is slightly bigger and more modern than most so it's not as cramped, though it still kind of is. They've definitely elevated the ordinary grocery store experience to something; don't want to be confused and mixed up with the poors and too-commercial whole foods shoppers, you know? Depending on when you go, anywhere between 10 and 50 percent of shoppers are just there for the food court, mostly to have the honor to have their lips blessed by those bougie $20+ smoothies. If you went to Erewhon and didn't get a Hailey Bieber smoothie, did you even go? Jokes on us because they have such strong brand recognition, they are probably charging their suppliers an inclusion fee to proudly list them as part of the ingredients. Not many can boast the same level of cultural cachet. The staff is extremely friendly and likely underwent intense training which surely prepared them to masterfully deal with any do-you-know-who-l-am Karen and diffuse the situation by assuring them they are indeed the most important person in the world. As a bonus, you'll get to practice your valley girl accent, like oh my god like literally no joke, I'm so dead right now... So you may be asking if those smoothies are worth the exorbitant prices but that would be the wrong question. Going back to the analogy with designer brands - many charge not based on how much it costs to make the garment but what the market would bear; the price is not so much a byproduct of the means of production but the main deterrent helping to weed out the other in order to form the it crowd (some may call it the fan base, others a cult). So when someone is rocking the $150+ Erewhon tote bag, it's not because they thought it cost more than $15 to produce but because having it is used a signal to others about their status and values.

Yelp
Erewhon is truly amazing. A masterclass in marketing. It's a grocery story that has managed to convince and entire generation of naive, insecure people that grossly overpaying for groceries is somehow a status symbol. It's a retailer. That's it. You can buy most everything here at other retailers or DTC from the manufacturer, for less. It's the type of story--that in another generation, would have be considered as basis for satire--along the lines of Joesph Heller, Stanley Kubrick, or South Park-- in some dystopian future. The people who shop there likely do not know who these people are.

Yelp
Turkey and avocado sandwich on the flatbread with special "Erewhon" sauce is so damned good. That's my favorite thing to get here. My son loves the sandwich, too, in addition to the mac and cheese and the strawberry smoothie. We come to Erewhon as an occasional treat. You'll be surprised that it's not as pricey as it sounds... especially the sandwich. As for the smoothie, well... they'll cut corners like switching from Harry's Berries to Driscoll's berries before they raise prices. Still, not cheap. I do appreciate how clean it is... but the Korean dad in me could never shop here for groceries. I'm not the Erewhoning type nahmsayin

Yelp
Erewhon is such an aesthetically pleasing store. The organization and layout of the items on the shelf is a dream. The Hailey Bieber smoothie is honestly worth the $20 price tag. I appreciate the allergens labels on every item. Price tags are high but the items are high quality. Really love every time I visit LA and have a chance to visit an Erewon.

Yelp
I was influenced to finally try the viral Hailey Bieber Strawberry Skin Glaze Smoothie. Unfortunately for me, I absolutely loved it. While it is expensive for what it is, it can be a fun once in a while treat. I also made some grocery purchases at this location and honestly their prices aren't bad on all items. Mind you, a lot of the items are overpriced, but some items are the same price as if I bought them at Whole Foods, Sprouts, or etc. Other items are a given to be more expensive due to their packaging and "clean" ingredients. I was impressed with their variety and I found a few items I've been looking for at other grocery stores for weeks. Their store is clean and the staff members are incredibly kind. I had multiple come up to me to offer suggestions and/or just asking if I need help. Fantastic customer service!

Yelp
Delicious food, beyond expectations for a grocery store but extremely overpriced $20 for a smoothie, $34 for the hot plate combo. Worth a try but not worth the price in my opinion

Yelp
and just like that....Erewhon is one of my fave grocery stores! The friendly door greeters are a very nice touch to start off your experience. The staff is so nice! Yes some items are pricey, but I'm ok with the up charge for higher quality and better selection. The hot food bar is delicious!! The salmon is so good and both mac and cheeses are delicious. We also tried the Hailey Bieber smoothie and bone broth. Both were great. The Hailey Bieber smoothie has great ingredients and still tastes so smooth. I've heard people complain about the price, but $20 is pretty on par with high quality smoothies I purchase from other places. This location has limited space overall....from the parking lot to the tiny eat in area by the tonic bar. You can make it work, but be prepared for a cozy and buzzy situation as you shop.

Yelp
Came here for the famous smoothie and didn't realize it was a grocery store?! Tell me you're not from LA without telling me... Anyway, the workers there were super friendly and the shake was very good. I don't know if it's $20 good as it tasted like smoothies I've had before but still fun for the experience. It was also fun walking around the store, they had so many fun drinks and the hot bar looked delicious.

Yelp
It's a gourmet grocery store showdown! I went to Gelson's, Bristol Farms, and Erewhon on the Westside to see which one reigns supreme when it comes to snacks and prepared foods. Tagline: "If it's here, it's good for you" Initial thoughts: Yup, it's pricey. They consulted Lucile Bluth from Arrested Development and made her in charge of setting their prices. A single strawberry from Kyoto... what could it cost? $19? Raw whole milk... I don't know, $21? Quarter gallon of maple syrup... $40 sounds good! Experience: Fairly busy on a Friday morning, I came right at opening. No problems with parking. An employee warmly greeted me as I walked in and two others asked if I needed anything. Tonic bar line was long (my visit was prior to April 8th's closure by the Department of Public Health). Hot foods area had a good amount of options available, while some of the other prepared meals were not ready at the time. I walked around the other aisles and saw mostly premium brands and private labels. Indoor seating is decent and they have more tables outside on the patio. Food: Avoid, avoid, avoid those terrible vegan "short ribs", the gummy texture was off putting and no amount of organic teriyaki sauce can save it. The bottle of Strawberry Coconut Milk was decently creamy but nothing really special. I did like the sea salt plantain chips, those had a good crunch to them and are very addicting. Verdict: #1 Baby Bristol is tiny but mighty (Westwood location) #2 Expensive Erewhon is a hit or miss (Santa Monica location) #3 Gourmet Gelson's is skippable ( West Edge complex location)

Yelp
I love this market! I always go to the food bar and get roasted carrots, kelp noodles and a protein! It is pricey, but it is worth it! You can go to a restaurant and spend the same amount of money however it's not organic! The staff is always sweet and helpful. I really like this location because they had a lot of seating!
google avatar

Yelp
Came here to try the famous smoothies. The smoothie was objectively great but not worth $18. There was a nice selection of food and drinks throughout the rest of the store. I would come back again to try other items in the store.
google avatar

Josh D.

Yelp
I saw everyone complaining about the prices at Erewhon on instagram so I wanted to check it out for myself. Everything on the shelf looked so presentable with the labels facing outwards in the same direction. I decided to buy some stuff for myself like a candle, Erewhon insulated bag, and a tote bag. I think I bought like 4-5 items and it totaled to around $250 lol. I also went to try the $20 Hailey Bieber Smoothie. I think $20 is too much, you should charge like at most $17 for it. Everyone was nice though, I've been asked a couple of times if I needed any assistance, which you don't normally get when you shop for groceries anywhere else. The interior was pretty clean and the atmosphere was nice. They sure weren't kidding about the price.
google avatar

Marie B.

Yelp
High prices . not very compassionate for the community that you do business in. they don't believe in human kindness. I think they have very poor values.
google avatar

Brian B.

Yelp
My first time at Erewhon! I came here to check out what the hype is all about and also to check out their water selection. I'm super passionate about drinking healthy, clean water and I was stoked at their selection! They carry a lot of great waters and a lot of them are in glass bottles. I also love that their Erewhon spring water is a private label version my favorite water of all time - Castle Rock Water! If I lived nearby I would be here all the time for the water alone. I checked out their other grocery aisles and thought the selection looked solid. There's definitely a lot of pricey options but I guess that's what you get here.
google avatar

Yelp
The store is always clean and organized I love. It. This cake is absolutely amazing. It's vegan and gluten free and erewhon sells different flavors of it also! Finding vegan and gluten free things that taste delicious is sometimes hard to find but this cake does not disappoint! Erewhon carries the best companies that have high quality ingredients!
google avatar

Darlene A.

Yelp
The Hailey Bieber smoothie is such a hit at Erewhon, and I heard she came up with a soft serve version. I finally got to try it and here's my thoughts : - soft serve watered down rlly quick & the coconut flavor was too much, too sweet. - strawberry glaze was also a too sweet , combined w/ the soft serve it j tasted like a concoction of sugar. - keto choc chips didn't taste good, understand the healthy concept but it didn't go well with this dessert. I'd give it a 3/10, for $10 a cup I don't really think it's worth to try. On the other hand, I also got my favorite item here which was the buffalo cauliflower. Always my fav! 10/10
google avatar

Lisa H.

Yelp
The food is great and varied but a bit overpriced. Sushi starts at $18 for "basic basic" and the rice never has enough vinegar to be "real sushi." Smoothies $20- maybe an $18 one? But has a lot of supplements! But again the prepared foods look amazing and taste good! The staff is helpful behind the counter- in the aisles getting help is a little trickier, seem to be caught up in meetings w/ staff in corners etc? The vibe is all right here. Bustling location where the parking surprisingly full - works out, the areas to relax and eat are nice - if this is convenient for you it's a great Erewhon.
google avatar

Y G.

Yelp
I frequent the food bar often and have just become so disappointed in the quality of the food lately. Firstly, I've noticed flies there. Secondly, the carne asada and chicken is sooooo dry and chewy I had to wash it down with water. The food has really been disappointing and it's just a bummer since they use good ingredients
google avatar

Tom S.

Yelp
I'm clearly out of my element getting a $19 smoothie but why not. I won't rate based on price but I do think $19 is a bit much for a smoothie. Cute overall vibe and store itself is nice. Service quaintly was really good. Smoothie was good, may try other flavors when I visit LA again.
google avatar

Yelp
best strawberry glaze smoothie ever , very fast service , very easy place to find and great parking
google avatar

Roselena A.

Yelp
Yes, everything yes!! This is like a Whole Foods but better. I got the Hailey Bieber smoothie, I don't even like strawberry smoothies but this was good. Something about it just made it taste so smooth.. idk but try it. I also got steak, mac and cheese and buffalo Cauliflower it was all a yes for me.

Shirley K.

Yelp
They have what you can't get at other health foods stores, like raw milk and wheat germ, which I buy. Three stars given because they are expensive,
google avatar

Nevaeh G.

Yelp
Always a pleasure at Erewhon! I love their hot plates, smoothies, pizza, and sushi. Only place I know that has sugar free sushi AND black rice!
google avatar

Maddy B.

Yelp
Went to try the MadChip Sundae. Customer service at the smoothie bar is great at this location. Even though the sundae was on the pricey side it was so yummy. The coconut soft serve is light, so you don't feel sick after eating it. The cookie is yummy and very buttery. And the chocolate sauce tastes somewhat healthy and is more like carmel. Honestly considering I spent $15 on a regular portion at Yogurtland recently, I'd say this is a way better deal.
google avatar

Michelle Z.

Yelp
Clean interior, modern feeling, and one of the more spacious Erewhons and way less crowded! As a result service is much faster (smoothie took literally 1 minute to come out, whereas at other locations I've waited almost 20 minutes). So many fresh and packaged food options available too. Lots of outside seating too. I got the Molly Sims Beauty Elixr smoothie, which was super filling and decadent! It has a strong banana date flavor with a hint of cinnamon. Super creamy from the coconut cream and almond butter. Definitely recommend if you like banana forward smoothies!
google avatar

Alana K.

Yelp
I stopped here on a Friday morning to grab a smoothie. Having never been to LA before, I was dying to see what Erewhon was all about. Lots of expensive products in glass jars, but not that different from Whole Foods. I had the peanut butter blast smoothie, which was on the cheaper end of the smoothie options ($12, as of March 2024). It had simpler and fewer ingredients than many of the other options. For 20oz, I felt like this was a great price! The taste was nothing special, and the smoothie was so thick that it was difficult to drink through a straw at first, but it was still good.
google avatar

Kristi Y.

Yelp
Finally got to try the viral Hailey Bieber Strawberry smoothie! Was it delicious? Oh absolutely, one of the best smoothie I ever had. Is any smoothie worth $20? No definitely not. They were super busy and the cashier told us there was going to be a bit of a wait time. I would say we waited about 10 minutes so it's not too bad. I also felt like some of the items at Erewhon weren't too pricey, but I guess it depends on what you get. I would go back like once a month for the smoothie lol.
google avatar

Jeff S.

Yelp
This place fits the LA stereotype to a T. I spent about $30 on what turned out to be a cold steak from their hot buffet line lol (which should've been served warm). When I asked if they could heat it up for me a little they told me they had no microwaves or ovens. Hmmmm....I followed that up with a small $6 chocolate chip Cookie for dessert that would've probably had been great fresh but tasted like it was a day old. My bad on that one. My girlfriend got a $22 pre-made sushi roll that she rated a meh at best. This probably marks the first and only time I'll pay $60 for a lunch for 2 at a grocery store. Moral of the story : what in the world was I thinking? That being said this was a very popular and crowded store. So feel free to chalk this review up to he's just not LA material.
google avatar

Rebecca K.

Yelp
I've always heard of how magical Erewhon is and I just had to visit during my trip to LA. I tried the Hailey Bieber smoothie and a blueberry scone. Was the smoothie worth $20? No, but the experience was worth it! The smoothie was good, I just wouldn't have paid $20 for it normally. Their flower arrangements are beautiful and I picked up a bundle, not realizing the price until I got to the cash register. $60 later (smoothie, scone and flowers), I can say I enjoyed my experience. I loved their variety of brands they had to offer. Their hot food area had so many options, which I want to go back to try. Lots of fresh, organic produce. I will come back here again the next time I'm back in LA!
google avatar

Kristen H.

Yelp
I didn't know what an Erewhon is but I was in the area and popped in to see. It's a grocery store and they have a cafe with visually appealing outdoor seating, little nook areas that it looks like people in this office district use for business meetings. Feels like super important people come here, of the type they accidentally spend a thousand dollars regularly, which will happen if you shop here. They had popsicles on sale for...no joke...$21 for 4. Made with like 5 ingredients. That is a whole other level of lazy. I mean I know takeout costs that much but dang. Employees are nice and you may, very slight may, find an item here that you can eat for under ten dollars. But it's very unlikely. It's fun walking around and gasping at price tags though. Bring a friend for an adventure thru the store where you just pick up stuff and point at the price tag.

Jordan J.

Yelp
Anthony was a beast and helped me out, dropped what he was working on in the moment too. Food was pretty good, but don't kid yourself, just go get food from a restaurant and support small businesses. You'll save money too. Will be going back for one of those bags... sue me.
google avatar

Yelp
First time visiting on 1/3/25. The store was so clean and organized. I love the wide selection of items. We came here mainly to try the $20 smoothies and I was curious about their sushi. We got both the Hailey Bieber smoothie and the Mango Malibu. I personally enjoyed the Hailey Bieber smoothie more than the mango but my sister liked the mango more. The Hailey Bieber smoothie is more on the sweeter strawberry banana side while the mango is more tart. Would I get it again? Yes but often? Unlikely for the price point. For the sushi it wasn't outrageous price either. We got 6 of nigiri for $21. The quality wasn't terrible but I wouldn't say it's top notched either. It's not a 5 star because the staff wasn't as friendly / helpful. I greeted the barista / cashier but they barely acknowledged it, they just looked at me like are you going to order?? Also since it was my first time I wanted to see what other smoothies they had and he was not being helpful at all. The menu wasn't really available either so we just went with the 2 pictures we saw.
google avatar

Santa Monica Will Always Be Home K.

Yelp
It's bad enough everything at this store is overpriced but when you have a customer service issue not once but twice and the management does not address the issue nor offer a full refund speaks for itself I escalated a customer service issue after getting the wrong coffee and making me pay in full for the coffee I originally ordered. I've come to learn this company is beyond cheap issuing proper refunds/credits if a customer is unsatisfied with any of their products.

Yelp
Do better! Gluten free pizza was so burnt to the point of being inedible. My husband and kids ate it because they were starving and I refused to even eat it and donated it to an outside American. It also took over an hour for them to prepare our order which was much longer than the quoted time despite the fact that nearly nobody was there at the window and they were out of so many things that while talking back and forth they allowed our pizza to get cold. They were out of many things ordered including my orange juice and they offered me some other juices instead. I asked for the pineapple dreams which is what they offered to me and they gave me pineapple and greens which is not only gross but I couldn't have due to food allergies. My husband called them out for this mistake at the window and they offered other option and told him one was pineapple apple and ginger and he said ok and was given those in the bag but when he got back with it also contained lime and strawberry and I couldn't eat that either because of food allergies so I ended up eating a jerky stick gluten free brownie and lemonade for dinner and had almost no breakfast either because they were out of everything so I've been basically nearly starving all day because this was all we had left time for and we are out of town.

Yelp
Order online for the cafe if you can as smoothies and acai bowls can take a while to get made. Even when ordering online I've had to wait an extra 10-15 minutes at times. Service is always friendly though and they have my go-tos in stock. Free parking.

Yelp
This is my first time at Erewhon and immediately walking in, it felt like a Lazy Acres but smaller and more crowded. I've heard the negative reviews about the price but wanted to check it out for myself. I ordered the famous Hailey Beiber Smoothie and cashier informed me it would be a 20 min wait which was fine. I waited 30 minutes for my drink, before checking in. They couldn't find my ticket. There was a Hailey Bieber Smoothie on the dock for 20 min, but it wasn't my name so we suspected someone else likely took my drink. For serving $17-$21 smoothies, they really should have an expeditor. The worker said just take the drink at the dock and waved me off.. and I said "uhh.. I just said it's been there for 20 minutes". Normally I wouldn't mind taking the smoothie but it was $18! They finally said they can remake it without an apology, and I thanked them. All the workers looked like they did not want to be there. The smoothie was totally overhyped as expected. It tasted like a Costco smoothie but not as sweet and had a weird aftertaste because of the stevia. I would not return, there's so many better smoothie spots in LA!

Yelp
Obviously overpriced but solid food. The bbq chicken pizza slice is one of the more value items to get- the slice was huge (1/4 of the whole pizza), and ~$8. This location has a little outdoor patio to eat at. Heads up, the smoothie bar closes at 9 pm.

Yelp
Wow!!! Ordered ahead and it was ready early!!! Everything was delish! Best steak breakfast burritos and the superfoods frittata was PACKED with veggies. Both were worth the price. The expensive Hailey Bieber smoothie was delish.... Not sure worth the cost. I would eat here all the time if I was trying to maintain a healthy diet. Sooo much great food

Yelp
I ordered a mango smoothie salmon salad and a cookie all very delicious and high quality. All a very quick process and we left satisfied!

Yelp
Every time I come here coffee and hot bar food is getting worse (overcooked/undercooked or just isn't tasty).... I'm changing the location I guess...

Yelp
Picked up the Hailey Bieber smoothie. It was pretty good but wait time to order and get it was long 50 minutes. While you wait you can check out the grocery store and order take out (salads, sandwiches, and even sushi).

Yelp
Worth all the hype??? For hot foods and smoothies, YES!!! Having a teenager, all that mine wanted on our weekend trip to LA was a stop at Erewhon! We visited the Santa Monica location which I'm told is much more mellow than some of the others and it was extremely crowded, aisles for snacks are so small, I barely wanted to shop or be there because of that, and the smoothie line was consistently long, but your drinks come out quickly, so it's not that bad. We got salmon belly cakes, garlic noodles, sea bass, a turkey reuben, ashapops, and Hailey Bieber's smoothies. It ran us about $115, but I must say, it was all very fresh,, bursting with flavor, and all of it was incredibly good. I don't usually get fruity smoothies, but the Hailey Bieber smoothie which I'd usually roll my eyes at, was surprisingly something I would go back and get, even for $20. A once in a lifetime experience for someone who doesn't live in LA, and very overpriced for most items, but I can see why people love it here!

Yelp
I'm trying to figure out how a place that can charge up to $30 for a smoothie or $25 for a strawberry is forced to closed down by the health department because of "Vermin Infestation" I guess none of that money is going towards pest control.

Yelp
It ain't cheap! Value is not there, but I can't deny it was quite tasty. I got the pesto veggie pizza. Now that's what I call a veggie pizza! Filled with veggies. Loved it. I also tried the pad Thai kelp noodles, and it was also very tasty. I did not purchase the ridiculously expensive berries, but I have heard about that brand and how each one is a perfect berry, bursting with flavor. Not the most pleasant shopping experience. It's super tight, and people kept running into each other. It was a constant chant of "excuse me, excuse me". They have a parking lot that is mostly valet. Free parking for 45 minutes while you shop.

Yelp
I've been dying to try Erewhon - living on the east coast, I had to stop in during my trip to LA. The store itself is beautiful - fresh produce, organized displays, a cafe hot bar and a smoothie bar. Coming from DC, I'm used to wholefoods expensive prices, but erewhon is definitely pricy! I spent $18 on the strawberry glow smoothie (not worth all of the hype), $24 on Buffalo cauliflower and Brussel sprouts, and $18 on 2 poppi drinks and a slice of cheesecake. Everything I got was delicious - I loved the Buffalo cauliflower but was surprised that they don't have any dipping sauces available for purchase. All of the employees were really friendly and it was a fun experience, but definitely wouldn't be a regular shopping trip if I lived in LA!

Yelp
Erewhon is a small market, deli of sorts and eatery. It is cute on the inside and looks clean on the inside. Looks are deceiving. They don't move their product around and I noticed items in the back with dust on them. The produce looks good, but under the fresh produce I notice there are things that should not be sold. The prices are outrageous. I know the food is organic and some of it not that easy to come by, but it is insane in my opinion. I can get the same quality at Whole Foods or even Gelsons for some items at a fair price. The deli type area is nice as is there food to take away or eat there, it just is not great. it is not worth the price at all. The service, sadly, is not good. I have been looked at in what I consider a creepy way, it is a vibe, it is not something I ever notice or have complained about. The staff can also be rude. I won't be back. I am done now.

Yelp
Canceled out membership after many years. This place went so far down hill it saddens me. I hope they do an employee review. The people at the tonic bar are the rudest. You wait too long for anything. They don't have any customer service skills. Mold on their jars I bought peppers for $12 that went bad immediately. Go to the farmers markets, support real people. Abandon this place and start putting your money where it matters most-- the great farmers of California. Once I saw the "$19" strawberry I knew it was over. They definitely support our dictator leadership! Goodbye EREWHON!

Yelp
I only came here because I received a $30 Erewhon gift card. I know this store is super expensive. The fact is that because celebrities do it, people in LA will run and spend their money at this grocery store. They have a wide selection of everything, including scented candles and skincare. It's a big store, but somehow the isles are narrow. Erewhon offers high-end groceries, high quality, and high prices. This store is geared toward a healthy lifestyle. This store is more expensive than Whole Foods and Bristol Farms. The store is appealing. I tried their Ice chai with almond milk, but it could have been better than the one I got at Starbucks.

Yelp
May 18, 2023: After hearing about the popular Organic Sushi Sandwich & telling 2 friends about it, we all headed to Erewhon in Santa Monica; picking up one friend in Santa Monica who lives nearby! Organic Sushi Sandwich: Delicious & incredibly flavorful! It's a winner! I particularly loved the crispy rice buns, which seemed to glisten in the sun, as we sat outdoors on the patio! Be sure to grab a napkin, as each bite oozes with a variety of organic ingredients, including avocado, and other yumminess... as well as shines with rice oil...on your fingertips! Haha! Be sure to add the soy sauce, wasabi, and enjoy the ginger, which also comes along with it to punch up the flavor!! Note: A woman looked over at our table and asked me what I was eating, because she said it looked so good, and I told her about the Sushi Sandwich! Customer Service: Friendly! When inquiring about the sandwich, a gentleman referred me to a nice woman who took our order & another nice gentleman gave us our order when it was ready go! Easy breezy! Also, 2 nice guys gave us a taste testing of two new & refreshing drinks! Super friendly as well! Atmosphere: The store is very tidy w/pretty & sometimes hilarious packaging! Everything is lined up & so neat, which I love! Very busy in the Deli area, as the the food looked colorful, healthy, as well as delicious & I even complimented a couple on having the cutest little dog, which they held! I also enjoyed sitting outdoors & being surrounded by greenery! There is plenty of seating! Parking: Valet or street parking! When we drove up, someone was leaving a spot at the parking meter; we parked right up front! The Venice location is closer to my place, however, the parking situation is even busier; usually a line of cars looking for parking. Overall: Erewhon seems like a friendly & attentive place w/plenty of healthy & organic food & drinks, along with a knockout Deli! Whenever shopping & considering our individual health, we always have a choice of where to shop, what we decide to eat, as well as how much we want to spend ... It was a great experience, so I'll be back... Especially for the Sushi Sandwich, as it was a mouthful of flavor in each bite and my taste buds were very happy!
