Midtown standby since 1991, still independently owned and popular for margaritas and generous plates. Recognized by GAYOT among the area’s best Mexican restaurants and a reliable go-to for groups.

I started my meal with the fresh salsa and chips. Made to order, it was fresh with just the right amount of onion and tomatoes – a perfect complement to the crispy tortilla chips. For the main course, I opted for the Midtown Combo plate, and it did not disappoint! The corn tortillas were stuffed with tender, flavorful chicken and cheese smothered in a rich tomatillo sauce that had the perfect balance of spice and tang. Finally the mimosas were perfect balance of sweet mango and champagne 🍾

Sangria Saturdays 🍷🍷 On a walk around Midtown, we decided to stop in and savor. On arrival, you could feel the authenticity that welcomed us while we sat at the bar. We were just there to have a liquid snack, but they gave us delicious chips and salsa to wash down the sangrias. Being in walking distance, we look forward to coming back for the happy hour.

This place freshly makes some high-quality, healthy Mexican food. It has a good flavor and isn't greasy. I also ask for their extra spices salsa. Their margaritas are pretty good, too. My wife doesn't drink tequila, so they happily make hers with vodka.

Walked into the restaurant, it was lunch time, and the dining room was half full. We were greeted nicely and were seated shortly after. It appeared they were understaffed. Our server didn't know if the corn tortillas served with chili Colorado were white corn or yellow corn, Our food came to the table looking great. My entree was hot and presented nicely. My wife loved her Ceviche tostada. To be honest, I'm not too sure how house- made, the chili Colorado was prepared.

I stopped here for tacos the other day. The pastor is delicious and prepared well. The habanero mango (?) salsa was bomb. The regular salsa with chips was nice and fresh, though not spicy. Leticia the server was extremely friendly and helpful. The tortillas need a little help, but otherwise I was happy with my quick lunch. I'll come back soon.

I’ve been coming here since it first opened. Now that I don’t live in Sac., I (used to) make a point to eat here when in town. Not after today. What happened to the warm plates of comfort tex-mex? Where are the hearty enchiladas smothered in delicious gravy on warm plates. Instead, small portions of average tasting food are served on a square plate. Worse, they serve a small amount of bland chips and a tiny serving of salsa (not enough for the small amt of chips they do serve). Ask for more, and they bring another small serving of salsa and charge you for it (see picture of salsa “container”.) Bummer. What happened to the friendly servers? Food that made you feel like you were eating in an authentic Mexican family’s kitchen? Warm corn tortillas? I’m okay about the loss of the warm refried beans with melted cheese to dip the chips in, though it used to be a nice touch. This was my go-to place. No more. 😢

We come here for drinks & chips & beans mostly. But they’re margaritas mixed with little coronas are bomb! I like their iced drinks too good for the summer. We sit outside and inside. We tried their food once & it was okay nothing to rave about. Definitely a summer place to come to

I made a reservation and was on time. We had 1 additional person. Special occasion. Birthday/Retirement. I was told it would be a 20 minute wait. We walked down to Hook and Ladder with the promise from hostess that she would call me when table was ready. 45 minutes later we went back to Ernesto’s and our table still wasn’t ready. They pulled an ADA table together with a regular table and tried to seat us with 4 people on one side and 1 person on the other. The table tops were not even. The hostess brought us a basket of chips and a bowl of salsa. I told her it wasn’t going to work. So they cleared a booth and 15 minutes later moved us to the back. Another 15 minutes later a server checked in and said she would be back. Never saw her again. When I asked to speak to Manager she said there wasn’t one there but she would get her in the phone. The server said they didn’t have any leadership, no suppprt and were understaffed. The manager refused to talk to me by phone. This was without a doubt the worst service experienced ce I have ever had. Unprofessional, disorganized, and a huge disappointment. We left and went to dinner at Hook and Ladder. Don’t waste your time at Ernesto’s. They don’t care about the guest. Dump.
