I feel like we need to give this place another shot. We came later in the day so I think the pastries were less fresh at that point. They looked really good with fresh fruit and a nice egg wash. The one we got was a bit on the dry side hut still tasted pretty good with the flavors still coming through. The staff was friendly and even with an event happening near by it wasn't too busy. The atmosphere was very minimalistic and didnt have a tone of seating but it probably doesn't need it. I think it would have been pretty good when it was fresh out of the oven so we will have to check it out then.

Food: The almond croissants are next level. The icing on the cinnamon buns is 🤤 and their take on pop tart puff pastries is delicious. The chocolate rugelach is super tasty. The chocolate and plan croissants are too dry for my liking. The bagels vary - sometimes too tough, sometimes just the right amount of chewiness. Love the generous amount of cream cheese. Staff: The staff is consistently welcoming. Space: The space is on the industrial side vs being comfy, and I prefer cozy spots where I could sit comfortably for a bit. Overall an excellent addition to the neighborhood.

A cozy vibe. From the chocolate chip cookies to the croissants. Food was tasty and coffee was delicious. Great music and seating available for getting work done while enjoying a sweet or buttery treat.

It’s been a great addition to the neighborhood to have such great baked goods. I’ve especially loved grabbing food and coffee and catching up with friends there. They’re really friendly.

I'm not gonna sugarcoat this - ESSEN BAKERY IS LIT. I came in to try it out and was not disappointed. The za'atar croissant was delicious. My cappuccino was smooth and the right balance of bitter from the espresso. I even brought home the rugelach and chocolate chip cookie to share with my husband! Essen is the perfect coffee shop experience that incorporates cultural baked goods with the staples we all know and love.

Google
A nice and clean place, with a very good croissant, but it’s a bit more expensive compared to other places. I didn’t really like the cappuccino—it was more like a regular coffee than a proper cappuccino, so that might be one of the downsides. Otherwise, this place is actually quite good.

Good coffee, good selection of fresh baked pastries (though I haven’t personally tried any, my mother said the Halva Babka is incredible). Non-busy atmosphere to get some focus time in (work or otherwise). Good & varied music! Open and spacious

Terrible customer service , showed up when they were open and was RUDLEY asked to leave the cafe and wait outside IN THE RAIN until they were “ready” .. 1 min later I watched someone else walk in and order no problem… I used to go every day , never again. Don’t want my money ? Fine by me if ur gonna be an asshole about it!

Yelp
Glad to have this business near the Berks stop for my morning commute. The pastries I have had are delicious. When I went last time they didn't have chai but I heard them say they were going to add it to the menu. The employees were really nice and asked my name and made small talk. It's nice to have a friendly face around. The black and white cookie and chocolate babka will keep me coming back. Welcome to the neighborhood!

Yelp
My favorite place to stop for a mid afternoon pastry break!! The babka may be everyone's favorite, but the cookies and cinnamon roll are my go to every time! Don't sleep on the focaccia either (snag a bag to go if you can!!). It's a great addition to the neighborhood, and so close to sacred vice and the berks station!

Yelp
Best bagels in town in my opinion! Super cute place, plenty of seating, large windows - it's a great spot to hang out. Staff was super friendly while taking orders. And as mentioned the food will keep me coming back. I tried the black and white cookie, a mixed berries danish, and of course the bagels. Everything is fresh and very well prepared - good prices for bagels with schmear in this area too. Looking forward to coming back and trying the bagel sandwiches!

Yelp
Cute new bakery behind SEPTA berks station. Got to try their chocolate croissant and famous cinnamon roll. Did not disappoint! Excited to have them in the neighborhood. Very friendly staff

Yelp
Pastries and breads are delicious, seriously the best in the area. Not pure sugar and very well made. Prices are extremely high and the place just has weird vibes. Maybe haunted by the past mistakes made in that building.

Yelp
Staff made a great recommendation for the roasted veggie spread, phenomenal! Laminated pastries were also fresh and crispy, had the apricot fruit danish. Nice to have a cozy coffee shop around the block, welcome to the neighborhood!
