NYC Restaurants Where You Can Linger For Hours

"This seafood restaurant with a Southeast Asian menu is one of the great sit-down spots that are sprinkled in among the typical food court-style vendors at The Market Line on the LES. For a long hang, come here early for Happy Hour (4-7pm) when you can get things like cumin lamb skewers and a gin/shochu martini for $10 each. The dining room never feels dead, but it also doesn’t get annoyingly packed, so it’s fine to sample their many small plates (deep-fried baby octopus in spicy lemongrass curry, for example) over a period of several hours. You can always move your get-together to one of the many other surrounding places if the mood for something else strikes." - team infatuation

Had such a great time here! The ambiance was really nice—relaxed, stylish, and perfect for a weekend brunch. The mimosas were absolutely delicious, and the eggs Benedict were perfectly done—rich, flavorful, and just the right portion. Definitely a place I’ll be coming back to. Highly recommend!

Google
The bottomless brunch was amazing! The waitress, Helena, was FANTASTIC ! She was so accommodating, and she even brought out plates, knives, and forks so we could celebrate my friend’s birthday with a cake! I highly recommend coming here w a group of people— you will not be disappointed (especially if you have HELENA as a waitress!!!)

Google
My friends and I went there for happy hour. The drinks and food were great and we had a good time. The tables by the open window were really nice on a summer evening!

Google
Great brunch spot!! Drinks are consistently filled, food is great, and the music is fun. Eggs Benedict is one of my favorites. Our server, Sophia, was very friendly & provided us great service. Would definitely recommend!!

Google
Relaxing atmosphere and delicious food ~ shared the first round of oysters and had the get a second for my self! Every bite is worth it

Google
The service was not great. Our server kept disappearing and multiple times the busboy who was untrained had to serve us leading to incorrect orders. The food was ok - nothing special. I’m not sure if this was just an off day because all the other reviews were so great - but our experience was sub par.

Google
Great happy hour at Essex on the Lower East Side, Sunday - Friday, 5-7. We had several small plates: fried calamari, duck meatballs, oysters and 2 types of flatbreads.

Google
The Essex is a beautiful restaurant in an interesting area of Manhattan. I came here for their Christmas Dinner offering which was $65 per person, a fantastic price compared to other restaurants. The food was OK, with all of it being presented very nicely but some dishes disappointing in their taste. The NY Strip Steak was more rare than medium rare and the dessert was not appealing taste-wise. The service here was splendid, with our waitress taking good care of our table despite it being a busy Christmas Day night, and another waiter filling up our water frequently.

Yelp
Came in on a Saturday after Valentine's day, amazing service! Jenny was our server and our mimosas were never empty and food was great! Highly recommend Essex bottomless mimosa brunch!

Fatima G.

Yelp
Food was yummy & the service was amazing! Refill every 5-10 minutes. Jenny was very attentive, best experience!

Ann G.

Yelp
Jennie is so nice and food is great we came during restaurant week the 20 dollars unli drinks was good

Yelp
I recommend going to Essex for the Happy Hour! Great offerings for good prices. My favorites on the Happy Hour menu would be the Parmesan truffle fries ($8) and artisanal burrata with pesto flatbread ($12). All signature cocktails are $9. I'm not an oyster fan but lots of people love the $1.50 fresh east coast oysters. Happy Hour is from 5pm-7pm on Sundays through Fridays. You sit towards the front of the restaurant and service is pretty quick. The restaurant definitely gives after work vibes. The lighting is low but it's nice inside and the seating for happy hour is on high tables.

Yelp
A huge brunch spot a block away from Delancey. They have outdoor seating and indoor seating with two floors. The place played music kind of loud and it was crowded with people on a Saturday afternoon as well so it was kind of hard to hear people on the other side of the table talk if in big groups. Upon seating, we received a huge plate of complimentary bread which were ok. I came here with my coworkers and we all got the weekend brunch special which comes with bottomless drinks (mimosa, aperol Spritz, and beer). The drinks were pretty good for the price and the servers kept refilling our mimosa cups without us having to ask. For the entree, everyone seemed to be stuck between the steak and fries as well as the buttermilk fried chicken sandwich. The verdict was that both were very good. I got the steak and fries and was surprised I finished the whole thing myself because I usually don't eat a lot. The steak was cooked to perfection as per request and seasoned very well. It was even precut into small pieces already! The scramble eggs with the hot sauce and potatoes were a nice extra touch to the whole meal. Lovely atmosphere, employees, and food. Would definitely come back again!

Yelp
Average bottomless brunch. Strong mimosas and the waitress was very sweet and attentive on getting refills. The food was overall mid - I got the chicken sandwich and it was lacking sauce and a bit of overall flavor. We had a large group of 14 and they sat us at a very awkward L shaped table which didn't really make sense. Would have just rather been sat at two separate tables close by because it made interacting super difficult and awkward. Definitely won't rush back, but a good deal if you're looking to slam some bottomless drinks with friends.

Yelp
I was invited to this restaurant for brunch with friends and some from out of town. Their menu is full of delectable bites, you'll have trouble trying to decide which is best as you can continue to receive the same dish over the specific time period you choose: 1 1/2 or 3 hours. They also have bottomless drinks by the glass for the same time period as your food. Service was prompt after ordering you dishes (appetizer & main). Drinks were flowing every time a glass was drank. The ambiance is relaxed and easy for conversation. There is a house DJ mixing the beats on the mezzanine level. So you'll be bumping in your seat. I would recommend this for brunch anytime, nice spot.

Yelp
Expensive, mid brunch. My steak came out medium/medium-well rather than medium-rare. Aside from the end piece, the steak was very tough and unseasoned. I regretted ordering my eggs scrambled because they immediately reminded me of college dorm eggs- premixed, dry, and straight out of a carton. I doubt they used fresh eggs for this. Salad was alright. Potatoes were alright- not anything incredible. Servers were nice and attentive, had to flag them down a couple times. The interior kind of lacks atmosphere, aside from the booth tables in the back.

Yelp
I visited Essex after work to reconnect with a friend. It was a Tuesday night on a very cold day in January so the restaurant wasn't too busy. Essex has a pretty generous happy hour menu. My friend and bought a few happy hour dishes to share all of which were delicious. The servers were attentive and quickly refilled our glasses.

Yelp
Just had the best mac and cheese ever at essexrestaurant.nyc , and I'm still swooning over the burrata! This LES gem is not just a restaurant; it's a whole experience. And let's talk about those vibes-- immaculate! After dinner, Essex transforms into the ultimate nightlife hotspot, with electrifying parties. Their legendary Happy Hour, features $1.50 Oysters and on Thursdays they are $1. If you're in NYC, Essex is a must. Happy hour Sunday -Thursday 5-7pm
google avatar

Yelp
I came here for trivia night and happy hour, and I had a great time. It's been way too long since I've been to Essex. This was my stomping grounds for happy hour, brunch, and dinner. For those who've back in the day they are located right across the street from La Caverna. We had: East Coast Oysters w/ $1.50 ($1 on Thursdays) Truffle Parmesan Fries-$8 Manchego Mac and Cheese w/ chorizo $10 +$5 chorizo Veal Meatballs- $10 Red Sangria- $7 Mega Mule- $9 The chorizo gave a nice spicy kick to the cheesy mac & cheese. I highly recommend adding the chorizo. Truffle Parmesan fries were really delicious. The meatballs were very tender and the marinara sauce paired really well with it. As you can see I don't even have a video of it not eaten. I really enjoyed the Shallot Mignonette that was for the oysters. They also do bottomless brunch here and trivia nights. This is a perfect place to go on a date relax with friends and family for drinks and food or girls made out. They also have a upper area where you can book for private events. I can't wait to come back. Happy Hour Sunday-Thursday 5pm-7pm

Yelp
Prob best vegan burger I ever had in my life! Brunch was great and the bottomless drinks for 1.5 hours was even better. Ambiance is great, get to experience real NY culture! Service was top notch!

Yelp
Our host was Selena. Our waiter was Helen and Essex owes us nothing although my party of 15 arrive late I was on time to receive their well welcome. The bottomless brunch it does its job and it gets us LITTY in a BITTY. That means they add a drop of juice in their cocktails!!! Our table enjoyed almost everything from the brunch menu, and even customize the shrimp and grits to add salmon, beautiful choice. We had a great time. The music was great as well.

Yelp
I slept well and was not hungover this morning. After eating this food and consuming no alcohol I am hungover. after going here 5 times, the food is mid at best and bad at worst. I ordered a salmon Benedict today and the eggs were ice cold. I sent it back and they sent me a new one and they were just as cold. I feel so sick. Gootbye.
google avatar

Amber K.

Yelp
Came for bottomless brunch for a friends birthday. Bottomless and a meal included is about 55 per person. I got the chicken sandwich which came with fries and I personally did not really like it. I think it was the sauce that I wasn't a huge fan of. My boyfriend got the steak and eggs which I thought was really yummy. The drinks were VERY strong and the server came and refilled it often so I don't think I ever had an empty glass. It's also very loud inside so I felt like I was screaming but overall not a bad place to have a birthday brunch.
google avatar

Mandisa N.

Yelp
I am on the fence of whether to leave 3 or 4 stars on this review because I did not like the service or the customer base of this restaurant but I surprisingly really liked the food. I visited for a friend's birthday during restaurant week so took advantage of three course menu. I had the salmon crudo to start off with which was alright. The steak was actually pretty good and really filling but the real star of the show was the Panna Cotta. Perfect sour to sweet balance and I haven't stopped raving about it since I had it. Our service was outstandingly slow. We had made a reservation well in advance but still stood around with very little help/acknowledgment for 30 minutes. The waiters seemed confused most of the time and sometimes forgot some of our requests. The place also turns into a club after 11(?) so at some point we were asked to hurry up cause they had to remove the tables... the experience was worsened by some screaming patrons nearby us and while I'm sure they were just having a good time, it did make our time uncomfortable.

Yelp
Mom and I tried a new place for Restaurant Week Tuesday night. ‍ The service and atmosphere were great at Essex. We didn't really enjoy the main entree we ordered from the restaurant week, but the appetizers were amazing. I would like to give it another chance - maybe during happy hour.
google avatar

Marsha J.

Yelp
3.5 stars Large venue with multiple parties of over 15 people which is great if you are planning to host an event/party Otherwise, the food was OK. We went for a restaurant week. The Crudo was light and refreshing, but the cavatelli lamb Ragu was overcooked. The panna cotta was light, but again just average. The service was great and they were very attentive despite multiple large parties. I cannot praise them enough. I would be more open to trying their normal menu, but would be unlikely to go back

Yelp
Amazing restaurant and location for a bottomless brunch in the LES. So much to do in the area, lots of bars. Really good American food and bottomless brunch price. Service was great, server was attentive and constantly refilling our glasses. Create your own omelet was a great option and high quality ingredients, served with home fries and salad and a dollop of guac. Avocado toast was delicious as well.

Yelp
Came here super Late and they kept the kitchen open for Us. Me and my guy really enjoyed the food and will be back
google avatar

Maddie G.

Yelp
Went for the boozy brunch with 5 other friends. We got there an hour early and they still sat us early which was great. Drinks were super strong and they filled them up quickly. Service with the drinks was great! We got mimosas mainly and tried one round of screwdrivers but they were too strong for more than 1. Food was okay. Bread that came out when we sat down was stale. My avocado toast came with a side of meat. Avocado toast was average and good. Chicken apple sausage was lukewarm and I didn't eat it. My friends liked their dishes except one didn't like the french toast because it was stuffed with cream cheese. If that's your taste, you'll probably like it. Potatoes were really good! I honestly would've given it 2 stars if not for the great drink service. It ended up being about $60 per person which I didn't really think was worth it for the entree I had. I probably wouldn't go back since I didn't love the food. Ambiance was nice though.

Yelp
Wintry Wednesday evening in the LES, we decided to revisit old haunts on the now well gentrified Rivington St. Most of the Latino eateries, pickle shops and bargain clothiers are all shuttered and long forgotten memories. We've stopped in at ESSEX for their happy hours and "bottomless" brunches, but this was the first time the 4 of us sat at a table and ordered from the food menu. Our server Jessica, from Staten Island (is that part of NY or NJ? - JK, JK!) was a treasure from go and treated us like locals. She explained the menu and found us a great California cab that we would not have ordered. Starters included the grilled octopus salmon crudo, veal meatballs (so light and tender!) and pork belly (ok, but not super special). No complaints here. For the entrees, 2 steaks, a little more medium than medium rare, but still acceptable with squashed fingerling potatoes (really potato-ey) and sauteed oyster mushrooms. Cous cous with pan fried salmon was hearty and the lamb ragu pasta was rich, in a tomato based gravy, but slightly on the oily side. Everything was well-seasoned and served fresh and hot. Dessert was the panna cotta (didn't hold together, but otherwise tasted fine) chocolate tart, nice and dense and the raspberry sorbet. All 3 courses were good, but it's pretty special what good service does by elevating the entire experience. Thanks Jessica for a wonderful family evening!

Kyra G.

Yelp
Went on a rainy evening right after they opened for happy hour and we were the only table for a good 30 minutes. Service was good and food tasted good as well. Paloma didn't taste like much grapefruit but that's probably a preference. Great happy hour deal if you're in the area!
google avatar

Donna L.

Yelp
I not been here since they changed and totally revamped the decor. I absolutely love the place sipping on my Paloma, taking in the beautiful vices that are Essex. You can never go wrong. Had the steak with Mac and cheese. So delicious. The Mac and cheese more than the steak was my favorite. Service was just go. Didn't feel like our waitress was connected. Food beautiful new vibes will definitely make me want to come back.
google avatar

Emily F.

Yelp
Good/fun location, nice staff, okay service. It was too warm inside. Asked if they could make it cooler, but they couldn't. Food and drinks were okay. My dad liked the burger, we also had a few of the flatbreads, steak frites, meatballs, and calamari. All of it was just average. Steak was a bit too rare for me. Not enough to send back, though I did ask for it to be cooked medium. The booth seating is comfortable. The spicy mezcalero drink was fine, nothing special. Didn't try any of the other specialty cocktails.
google avatar

Sahas G.

Yelp
Dropped by for the three-course restaurant week lunch menu. The restaurant was surprisingly empty when we stopped by but that was to our benefit as service was super attentive and quick. Food-wise, I ordered the octopus as an appetizer, steak for the entree and olive oil cake for dessert. Of the three the octopus tail stood out as the best whereas the steak was a decent bit salty and the cake was far too dense/dry to be an enjoyable experience. I don't think Essex is a bad restaurant by any means but for the price point it wouldn't be the first place I'd think of visiting.
google avatar

Tina N.

Yelp
It was a delightful experience. The menu boasts classic American fare with a twist, and each dish is a flavorful journey. The laid-back atmosphere, combined with friendly service, creates a welcoming space for a casual meal or a night out.
google avatar

Amanda D.

Yelp
Came here for brunch and i'm now putting this place in my rotation of good NYC brunches to check out. Given that it was a sunday & peak brunch hour -- the place was packed. I wS worried about the noise level given previous reviews i'd seen about not being able to hear the person next to you but fortunately for me, the music level was to my liking. Our serve was Katie & she was fantastic! Super attentive and made sure that our glasses never saw the bottom. (Seriously, if you check them out -- ask for her) For our entrees, my boyf and I both got the steak and eggs and we enjoyed it. The steak was cooked exactly how I asked (medium-well) and was actually well seasoned. I got a side of mac and cheese and if you're not a dainty person then i would opt against this as there was SO much cheese in this dish but it was still tasty. To finish, I tried an espresso martini and know I finally understand the hype.
google avatar

Yelp
Came here for brunch. Loved it. Ambiance, service and the food was amazing. I highly recommend this place especially with a large group. We were 15. Essex is on point with servicing very large parties.

Yelp
Delicious food and very lively brunch spot. We made a reservation and they seated us easily upon slightly early arrival. Service was good. Unfortunately we got stuck ordering off the expensive brunch menu. But food was delicious, just overpriced for the portions at the time.
google avatar

Tiffany L.

Yelp
The shrimp and grits here were so yummy! I ordered the "bottomless brunch" and ordered the mimosa. The servers were so wonderful with checking on my friend and I as well as keeping an eye on my glass so that I truly would not ever see the bottom of it. Gizem, who was one of our servers was so sweet and great! I love this spot for brunch.
google avatar

Sherina D.

Yelp
Easy going brunch. Bottomless boozy brunch is a winner on Saturdays and Sundays. The staff provide phenomenal service. Great for parties of various sizes. #yummy
google avatar

Cindy Z.

Yelp
I came here just for drinks on a Saturday night. I came here for a birthday, which they had a "private" area for, but it really wasn't that private. We were basically the only ones here for the first few hours, which at least meant it wasn't too hard to get a drink at the bar. I got a whiskey and gingerale for $15, which was not bad for a drink in NY. Nice stop for a drink, but nothing too special.
google avatar

Cara T.

Yelp
OMG this is such a FUN spot for bottomless brunch! For $42, you get unlimited mimosas, screwdrivers, or bloody marys for an hour and a half. We went with mimosas and our glasses were never empty! You definitely get great bang for your buck. Not only that, but the food was delicious too! I got the Aristocrat, which is like eggs benedict, but with a potato latke twist. If you like smoked salmon, you have to try this dish! My only negative was that the poached eggs were a little overcooked. My friend had the shrimp and bacon grits. I had a bite and it was incredible. I could literally just eat those grits! They were so flavorful! They had a DJ for brunch, so be prepared for loud music! This is a party spot and definitely not a calm, quiet experience. I loved the fun music and the atmosphere. It made brunch feel extra fun. I can't wait to come here again and again! Definitely my new bottomless brunch go-to.

Yelp
Party of 10, had the prefix for $100++ pp. The house well liquor cocktails were very cheap, brands we never even heard of. The crispy shrimp wonton wasn't very tasty but decent portion. Duck meatballs were fine, no real duck flavor, crude was good, burrata was okay. As for the entrees, most of us had the angus hanger steak and was a disappointment to all of us. The au poivre sauce ruined it, was not good at all. The steak itself was very bland and required salt. The steak was also tough. Salmon was good but very small piece. Dessert was a chocolate cake which was boring and some sorbet. Overall service was okay, friendly but definitely not very available for a large group. For $130 would definitely not recommend. And a big pass on the steak!
google avatar

Marcella B.

Yelp
Visited this place for dinner with family and we were all pleasantly surprised. The vibe and music was really cool. Food and service was very good We had some palomas and they were tastefully prepared . We had the prefix and it was a great bang for your buck . Appetizers , entree and dessert were fantastic. The presentation was beautiful Will def come again
google avatar

Lisa S.

Yelp
Pros: spacious booths, n Friendly staff Cons: food took forever, and the restaurant was empty at 6pm. Food was mediocre in flavor. Asked for steak to be cooked rare, and came out well. The steak was also a fatty cut. For $80, I expect a better cut of meat. Overall, disappointed and will not return.

Yelp
Krystal slays She kept us hydrated she kept it juicy she kept it real. No one can do it like Krystal!

Yelp
Adorable brunch place in a very neighborhoody part of nyc. Come here alone, come here with 10!--- the bottomless brunch menu is ample and the drink refills timely! What more is there to say? After: walk over to the crown rooftop for some music, people watching and views. Cheers

Yelp
Great service from Francesca Very attentive and catering to us and all of our needs We didn't have an opportunity to need anything as she was always there to assist
google avatar

Kazi T.

Yelp
The brunch vibes here are immaculate! We didn't do bottomless but it seems like such a fun place. There is plenty of room to come here with a large group of friends or even if you want to come here for a date. The restaurant is really pretty and the food here is delicious too! I would definitely come back here.
google avatar

Melissa G.

Yelp
Essex was our choice of Bottomless brunch on a Sunday in the city. We had to make a reservation and they were rather strict with the time, your bottomless time is 90 minutes and starts at the time of your reservation, not when you sit there, so it is important to be on time. The bottomless brunch includes one entrée along with as many drinks as you want . You can switch between multiple drinks or you can stick to one, but the service is always fast and your glass is never empty. For the main , i had the Chilaquiles with chorizo and they were delicious and very filling. i was very happy with my meal and the quality of the food and drinks. There was a DJ playing the whole time and the music was upbeat and fun, but at a manageable volume to be able to have a conversation. Great time for a group in town. Definitely would be back!
google avatar

Summer S.

Yelp
Francesca was on it. We did the 2 hr bottomless brunch. It was great. $60 for any entree plus 2/hr of drinks for a group of 8+ people. I had the omelette with tomatoes, spinach, onion. It comes with potatoes and leafy greens. Will be back. Good spot if you are looking for somewhere busy, loud, and active.
google avatar

Sabrina P.

Yelp
Had such a fun time for my birthday brunch here with close friends. Rachel was new (less than 1 week working there) and was really friendly and attentive which is greatly appreciated. We didn't feel rushed and stayed longer than the 1.5 hours and there was a fun ambiance to the restaurant. Great for groups! Extensive and detailed menu.
google avatar

Yelp
Essex restaurant is actually amazing! Located in one of the coolest parts of NYC, Essex has great outdoor and indoor seating with a large menu with options for everyone! They have the best staff with super high quality food and drinks. Everything from the chicken lollipops to the steak was delicious! With so many fantastic options and a great atmosphere, it's a guaranteed good night!
google avatar

Cynthia N.

Yelp
Checked out Essex for a brunch with friends and it was a good time. I had the steak eggs and potatoes and it comes with salad. For the brunch with a group you can get a Choice of Entrée with 1-1/2 hours of Mimosas and we went with that. It was pretty delicious. The steak was perfectly made and tender. The brunch was a fun time and the atmosphere was nice. The service was also pretty good as they made sure to refill our drinks every so often. I would come back for another meal here.

Yelp
I haven't been to Essex in quite a few years (although I live nearby). The times I have been it was only for their festive bottomless brunch, which is always a HIT. I happened to be in the area recently running an errand, passed by and saw their happy hour sign (Sunday - Friday, 5 - 7 PM). You can't beat a reasonable happy hour on drinks AND food, especially in pricey L.E.S. All of their signature cocktails are $8. I went for their Mega Mule (100 Proof Old Overholt Rye, ginger syrup, lime juice, ginger beer, mandarin and mint garnish). It was very good and I highly recommend it. For my second drink I went for their $6 white sangria (although I initially was going to go for the red). I didn't like it at all. It was too sweet and poorly made. I will avoid their sangria next time around. I enjoyed all of the happy hour snacks I ordered. Their oysters are $1 on Thursdays ($1.50 on other days). I had six of them and they were so fresh and yummy. I also had the fried calamari. It was a nice portion for $10 and it came with pickled peppers, Moroccan spices and a black garlic aioli for dipping. Absolutely delish!!! Their flash fried Brussels Sprouts are to die for! ($8). Very large portion and is made with a delicious pomegranate glaze and toasted almonds. I was so full that I took some home. Service: I opted to sit at the bar and I ended up regretting it. I believe I would have gotten better service from one of the servers if I sat at a table. Alec B. was behind the bar making drinks and also took my order. He was terrible. No personality and absolutely dry. He didn't seem to be friendly either. He was too busy in his phone rather than seeing if I needed anything else before happy hour ended. I had to flag him down just to get my second drink. I will definitely be back to Essex for happy hour but WILL NOT sit at the bar if Alec is behind it (he didn't get a tip either). Otherwise, the space is ginormous and beautiful inside and the ambiance is really nice! I look forward to trying other specialty drinks and happy hour food from the menu.

Yelp
We went in for happy hour on a Thursday. We were seated immediately. The service is a bit slow and the crowd tends to be a little bit rowdy here, but that's OK. What we ordered: We each got a cocktail. I got the cinnamon apple martini. It was enjoyable. We also ordered the Parmesan truffle fries which were so yummy in the perfect snack. If I had to pay full price for the cocktails I don't know if I would post the same review, but I will say they were very strong. Overall we enjoyed the happy hour, but I don't know if we would come back during normal hours.
