Evergreens Review - SeaTac - Seattle - The Infatuation

"Evergreens may not be the same phenomenon it once was back when combat boots and Salt Bae were a thing, but the airport can feel like a vegetable desert—which is why a trip to this Seattle-born salad chain can help. Stop by for a spicy kale caesar that can do no wrong, or just customize your pre-flight bowl of greens with endless toppings." - Kayla Sager-Riley

11 Sumptuous Salads in Seattle | Eater Seattle

"This local chain caters to the busy lunch crowd with quick service, customization, and a number of seasonal salads chock-full of grains, vegetables, and protein. The Age of Asparagus is a good bet, featuring toothsome asparagus, English peas, gorgonzola, pickled onions, bacon, and walnuts." - Jenise Silva

I had the El Sombrero, and it was fresh and flavorful. This combination was delicious. As others have stated, the prices are a little high, but for this quality, they’re not ridiculous. Though the service was adequate, the servers seemed a little distracted, and occupied by other tasks. Overall, this location is worth a visit.

Google
Quality has gone downhill. I used to always eat here but i wont return. The Parmesan cheese was so old it was chewy and dry- i thought they gave me pure rind. It used to not be like this. The black bean was not like before either- Super mushy. The employee gave me half a scoop of steak which costed 3 dollars. I want the whole scoop i paid for. Im disappointed that the 18 dollar salad is not edible due to the old cheese all mixed in.

Google
Visiting from another country (which doesn't have these types of make-your-own salad bars), I simply love this! Exemplary staff (Evergreens should be proud!), amazing customer service, excellent choice of fresh food, and to top it all off (no pun intended), it's all at a great price. Oh, and the portions are gooood!! Definitely glad I went... twice!

Menaka Ravi

Google
Love the variety of toppings and dressing. Healthy options, super customizable and better prices than most others.

Google
We tried Evergreens for a quick lunch while we were visiting The Spheres. This location is conveniently located across the street and there is plenty of seating to enjoy the city life. We chose the BYO salad and all the toppings were fresh. The only con was that we arrived towards the end of there business hours which seemed to alter there service. When we arrived there was nobody in line. We waited several minutes before we were greeted. At that we still had to wait a few more minutes before we could order. Would still recommend to others even though there was a small wait.

Google
I love this place! The workers are super nice fast and efficient. Everything is fresh and tasty.

Google
Gone downhill now. Large salad is half filled, and some of the associates are so gung ho on quickly moving the line that they don't listen. 40% of past salads have been made incorrectly. Expect more for $18

Google
For me, this is the perfect salad place! It's a dependable and delicious salad. Try out the spicy kale ceasar! What makes them stand out, is that they finely chop the salad. You can basically build any salad you want which lets me adjust it to my cravings.

Yelp
The best thing about Evergreens is Camilo! He takes the orders at the window and builds a friendship with each person. Camilo knows my order and takes great care of of me every time I go to Evergreens. I hope the ownership values Camilo as much as the customers do at this store! Keep up the great work, Camilo!!!

Yelp
Bit into a chunk of dirt! Thought it was a piece of steak and bit into it which basically turned to mud in my mouth! It took forever to wash the grain pebbles out! I almost threw up! I called and talked to someone at Evergreens yesterday and they said someone would call me back today to make it right. You would think with such a serious issue they would make good on their promise but no call and they are closed now. Dirty and terrible service. So gross!

Lauren P.

Yelp
Quality has really gone down hill. Used to be my go-to salad spot pre-pandemic but now I will avoid entirely. The ingredients are not fresh and they changed the chicken so it's now pre-cooked frozen and thawed (very weird rubbery texture). I tried the new grain bowls and those are worse. Jasmine rice was mushy and made the entire thing unappetizing. Employees seem to be lazy too - not cutting the avocados and throwing an entire half chunk right on top. The bread they provide on the side always tastes hard and stale. Given that it's also expensive I'd rather go elsewhere for lunch.

Yelp
I've always enjoyed their salads. Most of the time when I'm getting take out (while working downtown) it's here. Food is always delicious. Drawbacks is that prices went up and for about $14 you don't get any proteins, that's an additional $3. Also, when you get dressings they stack it on top of your salad so that you get less than if they just put it in the to go bag and then topped off your salad.

Yelp
Right by the offices, so you know it's going to be PACKED by lunchtime--ordering ahead is not a suggestion, it's a necessity. Regardless, Evergreens Salad is such a great, hearty, and healthy option for lunch. For around $12 you can stack your salad full with endless vegetable options--from roasted to raw to pickled. I also love how fruit is an option! The sauces are also such a hit. This place doesn't skimp on toppings and each bowl could last me for two meals.

Yelp
I ordered a salad for my girlfriend via Uber Eats. Due to a glitch on Uber Eats app, the restaurant staff could not find it. She showed them screenshots, which confirmed that the order was indeed placed via Uber Eats, to which their response was "This order could have been placed on any day". The insinuation clearly was that we were being dishonest in insisting that we had indeed placed an order. My feedback to them is simple: your food may be good (I don't know, I didn't eat it, and quite frankly, I don't care). But your customer service requires a complete revamp. I would have given you a zero-star rating, but Yelp is far more forgiving than I am. So you get 1 star.

K B.

Yelp
The best salads ever. So glad they came into the market. It was so needed. They're super easy to work with!

Logan S.

Yelp
Great salads, but there's no way you can justify charging an extra $3 for a 1/4 cup of boiled chicken. It's exhausting that every restaurant in this area try's to scam their customers

Yelp
I've been getting [back] into my salad game, recently, and it's _so_ invigorating. This local salad chain has always been solid for my healthy go-to downtown for several years. Locations tend to ebb-and-flow depending on the staff, lunch rush, ventilation (low-ceiling cafes tend to be stuffy) and duration of seasonal offerings. For example, I think the dried sage herb can still be added here even though I think it was optional for the previous seasonal offerings. They're probably just using up the left-overs to minimize waste. The staff are more-or-less knowledgeable on most items and typically just chill. At the locations that still have the 2-handed chopping, that's now optional - try to tip extra for this extra labor workout! :) Generally, I get custom salad or grain bowls and focus on the simple yet clean HCLF (high carb low fat - plus high protein & fiber) ingredients. These include the grains (corn, quinoa, rice), legumes (chickpeas, black beans) and any combo of celery, bell peppers, cucumber, mixed greens & arugula. The dressing flavors are great - handful are vegan - but little too busy for my taste. I just go for some lemon squeezes, black pepper and sage (when it lasts). Just note locations typically pull the warm items (rice & quinoa) roughly 1-2 hours prior to closing. It's easy to see exactly what you get and the dressing menu even has ingredients included for the conscious consumers. The only questions I keep forgetting are which oil is used for the roasted items and are the black beans soaked before cooking? The green theme has always been my main draw since I first went to the old 3rd Ave location farther south.

Yelp
I was walking by one day and decided to download the Evergreens app on my phone. It came with a reward where I was able to buy a salad for just $5. I chose to order the salad through my app and pick it up to go for dinner. When I did this, I chose one of their featured salads and was able to include additions to my salad through the app. When I went to the store, I didn't have to wait in line and was able to just grab my salad and go, since you also pay through the app. I thought my salad was very filling and all of the ingredients tasted very fresh. Overall, I enjoyed my experience and would recommend downloading their app to make things easier on the go.

Yelp
I've gone to Evergreens several times for lunch during work days a few times, when I've felt like getting a salad for a given day. It gets the job done, but I think it's just okay. I think I much prefer Toss'd, which is much cheaper and better-tasting, in my opinion, but is now too far from my workplace to warrant a frequent trip. == Food == Evergreens, of course, mostly focuses on serving you salad, and you can pick from either a list of pre-set salads, or customize your own. The ingredients they use here are pretty good, and there's a pretty decent variety of options to choose to put on your customized salad. The ingredients work pretty well, though I've found the ingredients at a few other salad places in town (like Toss'd) to taste a little better. Rating - 4/5 == Value for Price == For a salad, and for the amount you get, Evergreens makes you pay quite a lot. I once got a custom salad without any proteins (I wasn't feeling like adding proteins that day), and it cost me $9 before tax (this was circa early 2019). That seems kind of high, considering that places like Toss'd (where I've also preferred the taste) charge only $7 for a similar portion size. Not only that, but if you did want to add proteins, it's another $3, and again, that's higher than rival salad places. So, overall, when I went, I just had this lingering feeling that I notably overpaid for my food. It was still pretty decent food, though, so it's not like there was extremely low value for the price I paid, however. I just feel I would have liked going to other salad places for the taste, and the price here at Evergreens wasn't helping to sway my opinions of it too well. Rating - 2.5/5 == Service == Overall, the service at Evergreens was pretty decent. They took my order quite well, and making the order on my end was relatively hassle-free. The person taking my order was also very nice enough to recall that Samsung Pay could work with their payment systems, even though they didn't have an up-to-date credit card machine (Samsung Pay is backwards compatible with such machines, since it uses MST). This is quite a surprise to me, since most folks would assume that because Apple Pay didn't work with such legacy systems, Samsung Pay probably wouldn't either. It as only a minor thing, so it doesn't boost the service score here too much, but it was nice that the person behind the counter recognized this. Rating - 4/5 == Overall == All in all, Evergreens does a decent job of providing me with my salad fixes, whenever I'm feeling it. It's not the best salad I've had in town, but it still tastes pretty good. I just wish it was cheaper than it currently is, as it's pretty darn pricey right now, especially compared to competitors. Rating - 3.5/5

Yelp
This place has become my absolute go-to place for my lunches. I'm on a low carb diet which requires me to eat as clean as possible and this restaurant can definitely deliver all of those things quite nicely! I have recently been using their app to order ahead and then just pickup my salad / grain bowl. I find this method to be much easier than waiting for lunch crowds and also when requesting a larger bowl (easier to eat in a larger bowl without everything spilling) they don't fuss about adjustments....when in person you constantly have to correct the order if you're big into modifying. Just a tip.

Yelp
Pros : + Some of the best tasting salads I've had + Sustainability efforts (100% fully composting containers, napkins, utensils) + they let your use your own glass containers here instead of using their "plastic" stuff + friendly service + happening location + you can ask the server to "pack it well" for more salads Cons : - too little for too much = expensive salad - sustainability efforts not good enough. Compostable or not, it's still waste. Why not a self bussing reusable station? Extra point kudos : The girl who served me was awesome. Mahalo!!! :)

Yelp
I love Evergreens Salad - amazing varieties, fresh, delicious dressings. Apart from great quality, their service is outstanding - I had ordered a salad through MealPal, some urgent work didn't allow me to get it at the stipulated time. After speaking with them over the phone, their manager, JR assured me that I can come pick it up after work, asked for an estimate so they can prepare the salad fresh, close to my arrival. If that's not brilliant customer service, then I don't know what is!

Yelp
It's great to have a location nearby! Fresh produce and delicious salads eaten today. I brought home the asian chix and skinny greek salads. It's the holiday weekend (lot's of eating and drinking); eating a fresh and healthy salad made me feel better about my food choices later on in the weekend, haha! Will return...

Yelp
I love evergreens and have been a fan for years, but recently noticed a worsening decrease in quantity at this location since the beginning of 2019. I don't know the last time I left with a full bowl, which is so unfortunate. Three stars because the quality is good and the staff are always nice.

Yelp
My new go-to spot for custom salads chopped and perfectly curated with tons of options and friendly service! It was my first time here and honestly, I've been craving a place like this in Seattle. We had a place like it called "Hello Bistro" in Pittsburgh that I ADORE, and this place meets the bill. They have a bunch of salad combination suggestions, but that can be overwhelming. I generally know what I like and so I took a stab at creating my own salad, and with the help of the guy behind the counter recommending a dressing, I was able to get a salad that PERFECTLY pleased me. For real, I'll be back. The one thing about it that I'm not super into is the price. It's a little bit high. I wish it were like a few dollars cheaper, then I'd be back a TON. It's just a bit of a delicacy at these prices. But it's well-done so I'll be back. Can't really get this anywhere else. I recommend the citrus marmalade dressing if you're going to have fruit in your salad. Very yummy and light and a perfect amount of sweet (not too much)!
google avatar

Candi K.

Yelp
My go-to salad is the sombrero salad and rarely do I venture out to try something else (unless its seasonal and sounds really good). Most of the time when I do end up here is when I'm at the end of taking my dog for a walk and want to grab something quick and healthy for dinner. Usually tie my dog out by the bike rack and I run inside, they know my order and already working on it. They are super friendly here and are super quick to get me out as soon as possible. I wish I had a photo of my dog who just sits there patiently while I get my salad, its pretty cute.

Yelp
So Evergreen's just completed their website and menu overhaul....for the worse. - my profile with all my payment info and preferred pick up locations no longer useable: really inconvenient - getting rid of the rewards program: not cool dudes - no more large size salads (at least online): wtf - CUTTING HALF YOUR SALAD MENU, INCLUDING THE DICE-DICE AKA BEST SALAD OF ALL TIME: unforgivable. Almost all salads with protein were cut from the menu and now require the $3 protein add for the tablespoon amount. It would now cost $15 to make the dice-dice from the build-your-own. And don't think you're fooling anybody with all the seasonals added to the menu being protein-free and needing to add it in to bring your salad to $12 pre-tax. Super bummed, since I loved it, but now will be looking for a new salad joint.

Yelp
Evergreens is a super convenient lunch option thanks to their online ordering system. It gives you the ability to skip the line and go straight to the pick-up window when you're crunched for time and need to dash back to your desk. I'm not about waiting in lines, so they get an A+ here. Salads are decent sized and there's enough variety to make even the pickiest of eaters happy. Everything's fresh and made to order, so you can't beat that!
google avatar

Ryen B.

Yelp
Assembly line-style quick serve salad place. This place gets a line at lunch time, but the team behind the counter moves you quickly. Look at the add-in options ahead of time so you are prepared! They put all your ingredients in a bowl and then dump it on a cutting board to chop it to bite-sized pieces before putting it back into a bowl to toss with dressing. Good option for a quick/healthy salad.
google avatar

Yelp
Ordered a vegetarian el sombrero salad. After finishing more than half of my salad i found pieces of chicken in the salad! Had to throw it away as I'm a vegetarian and have never consumed meat! Extremely disappointed and this is unacceptable
google avatar

Brynda P.

Yelp
Perfect vegan lunch. Such friendly service. Large yummy healthy salad. So good. We enjoyed our lunch there very much.
google avatar

Mark Y.

Yelp
Cheap, tasty, and a huge salad that fills you up. I'm a fan. I need to go try some more options. It does have a fulfillment issue because the lines are super long. I wish they can get people through the line a little faster. Otherwise, it's a good spot for lunch. In the end tho, it's still salad. :)
google avatar

Steven B.

Yelp
For anything low to medium-priced, Evergreens is my absolute favorite chain in Seattle. Fresh, high-quality ingredients, interesting salad combinations, quick preparation, friendly workers, and absolute heaven for a vegetarian. A major bonus is the ability to customize in any way you want, for little or no cost. I've been excited to see Evergreens' growth and hope to see more locations here and around the country.
google avatar

Ann K.

Yelp
The best salad you can get, almost everything is complimentary, if you get everything in a medium size it gets big enough to go into a large, and they mix up the salad ingredients so well in front of you. I got quinoa as my base this time with kale and arugula, and it was a lot of food. Sometimes I wonder if it's worth it to get more when I really don't need that much... But anyways, I got pretty much every vegetable offered, plus an egg, tofu, mozzarella cheese, Parmesan cheese, pepito, sliced almonds, the list could go on honestly, but I think the idea is conveyed- there's a lot of complimentary options. If I ever feel hungry but also healthy, this is my first go-to, but also I always regret coming here because I literally always get too much. If you have self control, and don't eat everything that is put in front of you, then this is a great place to go, 10/10 options, service, and though the line is usually long it does move pretty fast.
google avatar

Steve M.

Yelp
Great salads! Build your own if you like- I did and it was spicy but very tasty. I was happy I could get some kombucha as well . I'll be back for sure and am happy to recommend this place with happy and helpful employees.
google avatar

Kelley T.

Yelp
I love it here! This location gets pretty busy during the lunch time on weekdays since all of the buildings around here go on lunch around the same time. But the line does move pretty quickly and the employees seem to have a really good system of getting people movin along and then checking out! I love their selection of ingredients and the bread they have is so yummy! Its nice that they also have some popular salads premade on the shelf so that if youre in a rush u can just pop right in for a ready-made salad. My favorite salad is the spicy kale and caesar, they also ask if you want a whole scoop or not for some ingrediants like the jalapenos!
google avatar

Abby B.

Yelp
I always love Evergreens, but this was my first time ordering from this exact one. It was such a pleasant experience. I ordered a salad for pick-up right before a small issue happened at work and I couldn't leave. Mari put it in the back fridge for me for about an hour or so and even said she would stay a little late so I could get it. Luckily I was able to make it there on time but I wanted to make sure I showed my appreciation for such amazing customer service! Thanks Mari!
google avatar

Justin C.

Yelp
Always fast and delicious. Always lots of interesting choices! Right nowyou order online and pick up at the door. Very safe. Always friendly faces.
google avatar

Lydia L.

Yelp
The line gets pretty long during regular lunch time, but moves relatively fast! Today I wanted to try the online ordering, but the pickup time was estimated to be 55min... so I returned to wait in the line and that took me less than 15min, plus I got to customize my El Sombrero a bit :) had El Sombrero twice this week, haven't gotten tired of it yet!
google avatar

Elizabeth L.

Yelp
Tasty salads, SLOW service - not a convenient lunch option. Just raised prices - new protein upcharge costs $3, so salads now cost ~$15 as they removed proteins from almost all salads. Being spoiled by sweetgreen's fresh salads + fast orders on the E. Coast, I was thrilled to discover Evergreens' salads, except staff is painfully slow and unconcerned with getting through orders. Came to pick up salads to-go with just one customer in line - waited nearly 10 minutes for two salads. Would hate to deal with wait times during lunch, as reviews mention online orders are ALSO slow - would avoid ordering in-person for lunch.
google avatar

Raigan P.

Yelp
ordered online and really disappointing. Nothing is labeled vegan. Had no idea what dressing would work and everything came with cheese. Not vegan friendly despite what yelp says

Monidipa C.

Yelp
tried to order through app. the order got cancelled as pin code was invalid, they deducted money thrice from my credit card which was not refunded even once. they guy at the store asked me to keep on placing orders with sone pincodes he suggested, but he didn't help me at all when I asked him why I m not getting refund for all the orders you asked me to place. Didnt find the place user-friendly at all.
google avatar

Michelle N.

Yelp
Used to go to Evergreens once a week, but lately every time I go, they skimp on the lettuce. I was willing to pay the $9 for a salad because of all the toppings they offer, but when you consistently fill the bowl 75% of the way, its not worth it anymore.
google avatar

Christine B.

Yelp
I loved this place when it first opened, good ingredients and variety. But now it's like they became too cool. Last time I went in for a salad, one guy told the other (quite loud) to reduce the amount of lettuce. I understand managing proportions but have a little decorum. I wanted a salad today around 3:30 so I looked online it said an hour and 15 minute wait for pickup. I decided to walk down to order real time. When I got there, there were no customers and 4 employees were standing around in the back area talking. They saw me but no one came over to help. In walked an employee from outside and asked if I had been helped, I said no, he said okay let me wash my hands and I will help you. I always order Cobb Your Enthusiasm as I did today. He proceeded to ask if I wanted chicken. Every Cobb salad I've ordered there before had chicken, so I said yes. He said now we charge an additional $3. That is roughly a ~20% price increase in the last few weeks. Really? $26 for two regular salads is a little much. Will be finding another healthy option in the future.
google avatar

Michael R.

Yelp
Really good creative salads, but really expensive considering the size and portions. It gets really expensive when you start adding protein options. Cost an extra $3 for maybe a golfball size amount of chicken. Yikes. Line time can be long during lunch rush hour and runs out the door. Kept the rating at 4 stars though because the salads are fresh and tasty.
google avatar

Jameson W.

Yelp
Because of its positioning, this is basically an Amazon lunch line that also happens to be open to the general public. So, if you go at 12:15pm on a Wednesday, you'll be in said line -- out the door -- of Amazon employees. However, if you go at 4:00pm, there's like no one there. And you can build something really healthy and super delicious and filling. For what and where it is, it is not particularly expensive. This is what I get every time: - Kale and Quinoa - Avocado - A hard boiled egg - Beets - Apples - Walnuts, Pumpkin Seeds, Dried Cranberries - Cider dressing
google avatar

Bryant L.

Yelp
This place was right next to the Amazon sphere so it was easy to find. I madr my own kale salad which had tomatoes, corn, crutons, mushroom, green onion, bacon, and cranberries with ranch dressing and it was delicious.
google avatar

Chris S.

Yelp
Fantastic salads, very genuine people, good pay, a lil dirty, but hey, so is every restaurant... ya know?? Have a good day and god bless:^) Seattle is a cool city
google avatar

Johnny K.

Yelp
Just to be clear, I love evergreens but this location tends to fall behind super easily with online orders. I had to wait over 20 minutes after my pick-up time to get my salad. And I wasn't the only one--there were about 15 other people standing around waiting for their orders as well. I would avoid this location for a few more weeks until they figure out a good system. Or if you do go, don't order online here, just order in person.
google avatar

Advait P.

Yelp
I am a big fan of evergreens and I love their El Somborro salad. I had evergreens first time after coming back from vacation and it was a bad experience for me. As I had few bites, I tasted something super bitter in my bite. After few more bites, it happened again and I just threw that salad away. I felt like it was either some different ingredient or possibly one of the ingredients was spoiled. I thought it was over until that triggered my acidity late at night causing severe stomach pain and I had to rush to ER to get myself back to normal. I am not saying evergreens is bad but I believe they need to make sure that they are using correct and fresh ingredients in their salad.
google avatar

Krista S.

Yelp
Delicious and generous. I frequent Plutos in the bay area so when I walked past this place in downtown Seattle I had to give it a try. Staff was super friendly and walked us through the lowdown making your own salad. You can have as many toppings as you'd like with only a few cases (avacado, meats) incurring an extra charge. Compared to other salad places, this place had high value for the price. Will be back.
google avatar

Michelle F.

Yelp
How often did I eat salads prior to Evergreen? Once every 3 months, MAYBE. After Evergreen - at least twice a week! Hot damn. Good salads. I'm addicted to the sombrero + chicken. So good! The line can get a little crazy around lunch so go early or a little later to avoid. If you order the take-out, they won't chop/mix it the way they do when you go in-store to order which is the best part, to me. I like that its not giant chunks of lettuce which usually makes it annoying to eat. And tossing it in the dressing helps distribute the flavors so well!
google avatar

Wendy H.

Yelp
In this new weird COVID world we live in, grabbing a salad from this Evergreens location was super quick, safe and easy. Ordering from the app was simple. Pickup was great: I'm appreciative of the window they have where you can easily grab your order and scoot. Since I paid for it through the app, there was no need to conduct a transaction in person. Everything was exactly how we specified and it was fresh and delicious. Nice service too. I'm glad that Evergreens is an option these days!
google avatar

Evan S.

Yelp
I update my rating based on sincere, non-defensive response from Evergreen management - I appreciate the proactive outreach. One star on service alone - and I love the salads. Evergreen Salad, you need operation help, really - it's urgent. If you are a lead at Evergreens Salad please heed my warning: you may be making piles of money - yet you are losing your customers and damaging your brand. Today your order page won't accept my order - and every time I pick up my salad you are super late and I get attitude from your team that constantly is frazzled and unsupported. I'm an ops pro - and it hurts my heart to see you squander the faith of your customers. Wow, just wow.
google avatar

Josh B.

Yelp
I ordered a salad for pickup online during the work week. When I got back to work I found that my quinoa and almonds had been left out, and black beans added. I called later during the day when the rush had slowed down and just received a sorry it is really busy at lunch. For the price paid for a salad I expect it to be what I ordered. Make sure you check your order at the carry our window.
google avatar

Dana T.

Yelp
They do not use sanitary preparations at this location and it is best avoided. I went in tonight to get a salad and noticed that there was a wet rag in the bowl the girl used to make my salad. Rather than making a thing of it in the store and freaking out all the customers in there I waited till I got back to work and called to inquire about this practice. The shift lead informed me that while it is not typical at all locations it is at this location. They use the rag to wipe out the bowls but the rag looks wet and like it could be used to wipe down the counters. How can a customer differentiate and why should they? It looks and is unsanitary. Truly gross.

Yelp
I love this place so much! Have been looking for a place that specializes in salads. Healthy and fulfilling! Who knew salads could be a meal that is delicious and low cal. I hope it continues to be that way and expands on an international level. Portion size is very good where you could have it as lunch meal by itself. The staff are very welcoming and helpful. If its your first time , they guide you through the process and help you choose your salad.
