5/5: Food and seasoning 5/5: Service 5/5: Atmosphere What an Amazing experience! I am from Louisiana and was in St Louis for work. Went to The Foundry to explore a bit and the atmosphere of Expat's drew us in. We ordered a variety of items (some not pictured) and every single thing was mouth watering perfection. The portions were large and the seasoning was absolutely on point. Best food I ate the entire time I spent in St Louis!! Everyone was so friendly, service was great, and they even let us see the elephant . 10/10 recommend!!!

World-Class BBQ with Global Flavor in the Heart of St. Louis Expat BBQ is easily one of the most unique and delicious BBQ spots in St. Louis. This isn’t your typical ribs-and-brisket joint — it’s a global BBQ experience with flavors and techniques inspired by different cultures around the world. We tried several dishes, but favorites included the Chopped Lamb Shoulder seasoned with bay, cardamon, cumin and coriander with a yogurt white bbq sauce and the Pulled Pork with Thai Basil, Lime, and Ginger — absolutely packed with flavor. Vegetarians and vegans are covered too, with their Harvest Shreds plant protein option that mimics the meat-based dishes surprisingly well. It’s seasoned to perfection and honestly hard to tell it’s not meat. If you’re craving a burger, don’t miss the Brass Burger, a signature from Gerard Craft’s Brasserie. And don’t sleep on the Mac n’ Cheese and Baked Black Beans — both are killer sides. The cocktails are just as good as the food. The last time I was here I had a fantastic Old Fashioned that was expertly made. The space is open and welcoming, and even when it's busy, you can still enjoy good conversation. Their outdoor deck is one of the best in STL when the weather’s nice. Excellent food, great service, and an awesome atmosphere. Can’t wait to go back and try even more of the menu.

Expat BBQ is a bold and exciting addition to the St. Louis dining scene. Located in The Foundry and part of Chef Gerard Craft’s Niche Food Group, this spot brings Asian BBQ fusion to life with creative flair and serious flavor. The vibe is stylish and relaxed, and the cocktails alone are worth the visit—each one had a unique, Asian-inspired twist that felt fresh and unexpected. We stopped in for happy hour (which runs until 6) and ordered the nachos… and wow. They were an absolute flavor bomb—crunchy, spicy, savory, and totally crave-worthy. My friend and I are already planning a return trip to explore more of the menu (and the cocktail list!). Expat is definitely one of those spots that’s great for a casual hang or a night out with foodie friends. Whether you’re there for drinks or a full meal, you’re in for something memorable. Google
I really enjoyed the experience. This 3 level BBQ restaurant offers drinks, music, tvs and games in addition to the food. We sat at the patio level where you order buy QR code. The food comes so quickly. I enjoyed the cornbread and the tender spare ribs. The Mac n cheese leave little to be desired. The drinks are reasonable ranging from $3 for refillable soda and teas to $15 for alcoholic beverages. They do not offer anything blended. The food prices were standard with today’s pricing.

Very cool restaurant with friendly service. The upper deck was a great space to see the Foundry happenings, play tables games, have a drink, or just chill while watching the current sports event. We ordered our food using their QR code menu and app, which is also how you pay for your meal. Food was good and delivered pretty quickly. I would definitely come back.

Google
Phenomenal BBQ. Had the half rack of spare ribs and they were delicious. The surprise highlight though is the "BBQ Salsa" which was a unique taste that was spicy, tangy, and sweet. The only item I wasn't as impressed with was the baked beans, which were a bit too 'whisky' flavored for my personal taste.

Google
Expat BBQ at the Foundry is an absolute must-visit! I had the smoked sweet potato with mac & cheese, and it was beyond delicious. The smoky depth of the sweet potato paired perfectly with the creamy, rich mac & cheese—every bite was packed with flavor. Not only was the food amazing, but the staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, making the whole experience even better. The atmosphere inside Expat is vibrant, with a great balance of casual and stylish vibes. Whether you're a BBQ lover or just looking for a unique dining experience, this spot delivers! Can’t wait to come back and try more dishes. Would definitely recommend! 🔥🍽️

Google
If you’re looking for great food and awesome atmosphere you have to check this place out!! The chips and salsa are different and so delicious! The pulled pork and expat burger were amazing! They have several alcohol choices. We had intended on trying a different place in The Foundry and then found this place. So glad we tried it. Can’t wait to go back!

Yelp
What a nice surprise. The foundry was hopping which was nice. This is a newish addition with a dining room opening to the food court and an upper terrace bar and roof patio. It's covered with big fans so it's pleasant even in hot weather. It's industrial hip decor. This is not your everyday bbq restaurant but all the dishes have twists with interesting rubs and sauces. The portions are generous. It's very informal so there is not much in the way of service, but pleasant enough. A really fun place

Yelp
I thought Expat was a good spot and I enjoyed being on the terrace floor. The service was okay but a little scattered having an online ordering system. This is a great spot if you want unique and good bbq with a nice vibe! Tried: Slay tray (ribs, wings, cheese curds), brisket, NA Original sin cider, NA Cerveza Loved: I especially liked the slay tray. The jerk wings with the pineapple habanero sauce that came with it went really well together. The ribs were seasoned well, and the cheese curds were amazing - sweet and spicy. The top floor terrace is really pretty and the restaurant overall is nice. Liked: the brisket was good but I wish there were more bbq options on the third floor to try with it, and the brisket was less fatty Disliked: the prices were a bit

Yelp
This was my first visit to Expat, and it did not disappoint! I loved the cheese curds - they're drizzled in hot honey and are a must order in my opinion - and the smoked turkey sandwich was moist and flavorful, unlike other some other smoked turkey I've had. I usually don't care for potato wedges, but these were crispy and not too potato-y, if you know what I mean. The space is airy with lots of natural light and is open to the Foundry food hall. Our party of 7 was tucked back in a room meant for larger groups, which I didn't feel was necessary for the time of day (Sunday at 3 pm). The service was ok but slower than I feel it would have been if we'd been seated in the main dining room. No complaints, just something to keep in mind if they're not busy.

Yelp
Loved the atmosphere here - well at least on the upper outdoor patio. Nice open area with easy access to bar, games and restrooms. Food orders are placed thru QR code at table which is fine unless you have questions about food options. Once ordered food didn't take long to arrive at table. My pulled pork sandwich was a very meaty sandwich but dry and disappointing. They do have sauces available which I leaned on heavily. My friend said brisket was mediocre. They did have an appetizer which was really good-baked cheese ?? Other friends liked the curds and kale salad. All in all I was happy to have tried this place out and I would give them another try.

Yelp
Stopped by for a pre-movie lunch. This is not a counter service place. Seated at a table inside. Friendly and attentive staff visited us a number of times. Complimentary chips and salsa were a nice touch. Chips were fresh and the salsa was tasty! Unique peppers gave it a great taste. What we ordered: - Smoked Fattoush Salad with Turkey added (4.25/5): the misses loved this salad. Nice flavors and filling. Perfect for lunch. - kale salad with Turkey (4/5): wish I could have lamb with this. Tasty salad, and hearty. I do think they could marinade / soften the kale a bit. One concern: the conveyer belt setup downstairs to transport food upstairs is loud and distracting. Otherwise, we loved the space.

Yelp
Adding to my initial review. We have visited regularly since the roof top patio grand opening. It is one of my favorite Hallmark holiday or family time out. Any sunny/breezy day and looking to enjoy a patio + good BBQ, then l 99 percent recommend.

Yelp
This spot is huge! Dining area is nice and spacious and there's an upstairs outdoor patio. Decor is really nice and place is clean. Accommodated for our bigger group of 9. Server was really friendly and helpful. Brisket Sammie I got was pretty good but definitely need to come back to try more things. The size was quite small for what I expect from a bbq place but good portion for myself.

Yelp
First all, we chose the terrace on the 3rd floor. It's a totally different level of service up stairs than downstairs in the restaurant. You will not be waited on at the terrace. You have to order with a QR code for food and you have to go to the bar and stand in line for a drink. Not fun if you have a group of people. Someone is sitting at the seats while others grab the drinks. Just odd. You grab your own water and utensils and paper trays at a station. Service interactions were not good. (3p-6p on a Wednesday) . Not the friendliest staff during our visit on multiple interactions even when asking questions. (Group of 6) if you are running a tab, you must go to your table and order food first before you can go to the bar to run a tab and add the drinks... so many rules!! They don't make it easy to spend your money! The terrace was nice. Great breeze, big fans and nice low seating for a casual drinks and dinner. They have live music some nights. There is a roof so you're protected if it rains. It's cool to see how the food is brought up from the lower floors. Now to the food. We had a variety of appetizers. Our favorite was the hot Nashville cheese curds and the wings. So good!!! Nachos were good (yes those are carrots and radishes on the nachos). The popovers were too doughy and meh. Hush puppies were a bit dry. Nice drink selection. Drinks not on the menu were not as you would typically expect. But the other drinks listed were good. So would I recommend it? Yes. Just know before you go. We were wanting a bit more service on the terrace and that just is not an option.

Yelp
Our meals were OK. We've been wanting to try this place and it didn't disappoint. Cool fusion concept, you can actually taste the international flavors - no gimmick on the name Expat. Tried the lamb, ribs, jalapeño Mac n cheese, cornbread, and fries.

Yelp
This place is a must do! I wasn't prepared for how awesome this place is. The space is massive and has such a vibe. Rich jade green and golds along with bengal tigers are tied together throughout the three (yes three) levels. We were seated in the main dining room which has industrial vibes. Our server was very friendly and helpful with the menu. I think we may have ordered too much food; if that's even possible! We started with the cheese curds in a sweet chili sauce. Creamy cheese and a sweet heat. Yum! I was recommended the short ribs as my entree. This had to be the most uniquely seasoned ribs I've ever had. Sweet with just the right amount of spice for heat. The entree comes with one side so I added macaroni and cheese. This stuff is amazing!! The sauce was creamy with a Smokey flavor. I'd recommend you give this one a go. I added a side of collard greens to round out my meal. Unfortunately I wasn't a fan of these. Looks like they are served with hot sauce on them. I'm not sure, but this one was not a favorite.

Yelp
I am obsessed with this place! The food, the ambiance, the drinks. They nailed everything. You can hang out al fresco upstairs at a cool rooftop (sometimes there's live DJs!) or you can hang downstairs where the bars and decor are just as cool. Its fun looking at everything plus the food zip line?? Haha. Cocktails and food were amazing and well made. Music choices good too.

Yelp
Expat Happy Hour is my new go to! The food and drink menu is all so good! We tried almost everything and my favorites were the Popovers, Frito Pie, Cheese Curds, and Kale Salad! The space is so nice and huge! I can't wait to hang out on their patio when the weather is nice.

Yelp
I have been so excited to come and try Expat and drooling over the descriptions of dishes for months. Hubby and I made it a date night and came on out! Based on everything, though, I can't say I would ever give it go again. The quick things that threw me off: At this price point, I'm expecting plates and silverware, and ramekins for sides-- meat plates are 25+ each and brought out in a metal tray w paper ballpark scoop. Why serve butter with your cornbread if the cornbread is room temperature? We were both perplexed and so we asked if the cornbread was supposed to be warm, it is not... so they intend that you use unmelted butter as a dipping sauce for cornbread. They do not serve it with honey. The soda/drinks aren't that good :( So now into the weeds... I asked before ordering what type of fries these were. Our server mentioned they were steak fries. I get my fries, they're matchstick. I asked the server in order to gauge if he knew what matchstick fries were. He was adamant, the chef calls these fries steak style fries. I asked if he understood how that's confusing since I was expecting steak fries which is the exact opposite of what I received. He seemed like he understood what I was saying and then offered that he'd bring a different side. I did take him up on that and got the mac n cheese. HE CHARGED ME FOR IT. Also, the mac n cheese wasn't good either. It has relish in it and a slight sweetness I can't shake, also the mix of cheeses wasn't complementary to each other and was slightly bitter, a gruyere I think. The greens were ok, nothing too strange there. I guess you could say this was a comedy of horrors. The pork shoulder was shredded, on purpose. We did ask if someone accidentally brought us pulled pork instead. The shoulder is supposed to be like that. The turkey was tender, which was great, but it didn't really have a taste. You know how at a bbq place, you can find your sauce soulmate, well, none of the sauces really hit the spot for me. The baked black beans are flavored with teriyaki. Like as a very prominent note...It's pretty off-putting. In general, I think I can safely say this is just not our jam. The food was cooked well. It lives up to the promise of "Expat", traditional foods with untraditional seasonings and served in different ways. We are both adventerous eaters who love to try things, it just seems this chef's fusion palate just doesn't gel with ours. Friendly and quick service, lovely atmosphere, just not our style. I was happy to see it was packed on the Saturday we went out so we must be in the minority and it seems a well-loved establishment.

Yelp
If I told you I wasn't still thinking about the Mac and cheese, I'd be lying. I ordered the brisket plate and loved the spices that the brisket was rubbed in! It came with a side, and I clearly got the Mac n cheese! It was amazing! It was creamy and had small bits of jalapeños for a nice bite- nothing too over the top. I highly recommend trying them both!

Yelp
We usually avoid the Foundry but this spot has been on the list since they opened and we were looking for something fun to do on a Sunday, so we gave it a try. Holy Moly. Definitely worth the Foundry traffic on a bad day it was so good! The service was fantastic the whole time. We were amazed. The drink menu is amazing and super unique. I want to try everything. THE FOOD. The brisket was SO tender. The pork was so flavorful. The fries were crispy and perfect. The mac was a jalapeno mac that was insanely creamy. EVERYTHING WAS SO GOOD. Such a great experience, probably some of the best BBQ we've had in STL. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Really cool concept just not overly impressed with our visit. The space itself is very cool, multiple levels and decorated very nice. We were really looking forward to some barbecue as it smells amazing outside of the foundry. We got an app, the ribs and a sandwich. The cheese curds were pretty good, there was a nice portion size to share and enough for us to take home. The pork sandwich was good as well, nothing special. Unfortunately we didn't like the ribs at all. It had a foul taste to us and the meat wasn't very tender at all, we ate not even two pieces which was pretty disappointing. The Mac and cheese was pretty good considering I normally wouldn't go for something with jalapeños. The service was subpar, we really only saw our server a couple of times and had empty water glasses most the time (that was all we were drinking). Overall for the price I was left wanting a lot more and had higher expectation than what was received. If I were to come back I would probably just go to the outdoor patio and grab a drink and an App.

Yelp
Unique take on BBQ for St. Louis. There were a bunch of great options, but we decided to do the appetizers tray to try a bit. I'm a huge jerk wing fan and these didn't disappoint. Enjoyed the ribs and curds as well. Not pictured: Brazilian Cheese Bread, which is a must get!!!!! The space is so neat, looking forward to warmer weather and being able to enjoy the upstairs. Can seam a bit pricy but for the food and location, makes sense to us.
google avatar

Yelp
Expat BBQ in STL is hands down a new five star STL experience. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with a laid-back yet welcoming vibe that screams international barbecue. The smell of smoky, perfectly cooked meats hits you immediately, and it only gets better from there. The brisket was melt-in-your-mouth tender with just the right amount of smoky bark, and the pulled pork was juicy and bursting with flavor. Their sides are just as impressive--don't miss the mac and cheese or the tangy slaw, which are the perfect complement to the rich, savory meats. I would skip out on the Brazilian cheese Bread though. The staff was friendly, attentive, and clearly passionate about what they do, making the whole experience even better. They were new when we went, so I only expect service to get better and better. Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
Server Anthony rude, snide and missing most of the meal. His customer service would have been better suited for Ed Debevic's. The Kimchi Hush Puppies had no flavor and could not pass for global cuisine. The Pork Shoulder boasted basil, lime and ginger marinate however the 8oz serving was still on my plate when they cleared the table. It was not worth taking more than two bites. The cornbread and Mac n' Cheese were adequate. My wife's French fries were really good. The environment was the typical Foundary Feel. Everything was over priced so we left disappointed with $100 bucks less in our pocket.

Yelp
I visited Expat during the day, so I only got to visit, The Terrace and it was a limited menu. I also had to order my food at a kiosk. I'm a pretty good self checker outer at the grocery store and Target, but some how I missed up ordering here. I ordered the cheeseburger with waffle fries and added a side of Mac-n-Cheese, too. I am a fan of Mac-n-Cheese and wanted to see how good theirs was. When my food was delivered, I had no waffle fries. I thought it was my fault, so I wasn't going to say anything. My friend encouraged me to go ask at the bar and get my fries. When I did, they checked my entries and I indeed did order the combo and the extra side. The food runner quickly brought me, my additional carbs. My cocktail of choice was a Old Fashioned and it was masterfully made. The only downside, is that it was served in a plastic glass. I get it, due to the location they can't use glasses. However, the plastic glasses aren't good for our environment. Expat BBQ will be a great place to eat before or after a move at, The Alamo.

Yelp
Bottom Line - come for a drink on the Patio. skip the food. Expensive BBQ places - either knock it out of the park or leave much to be desired. Expat, struck out. The food's not good. Maybe we came on an off day. The venue - awesome. The multi story restaurant is very designed. Playful designs. The food pulley system is loud AF. I'm surprised Niche didn't think that one though fully. Its just runs and runs and runs. The patio - amazing atmosphere. Wonky ordering system. Self serve for utensils and sauces. The food is sent up via a pulley system. I guess if its pipping hot in the kitchen it will arrive hot. If it sits in the kitchen. Good luck. The food: The $27 brisket plater - dry and cold. The driest corn bread ive ever had and cold fries. The $17 burger. Cold fries. Tepid burger. The staff, really warm and engaging. Overall disappointing. The Niche Food Group's other restaurants hit it out of the park. Save yourself the pain and get their burger from Rockwell. Its infinitely better. The brisket? Head to Sugar Fire or Salt n Smoke. Heck, you'll be less disappointed with Dierberg's Bob's BBQ is better at a fraction of price. My dog will be happy with 3/4 of the brisket I didnt eat. Thankfully there is a grocery store in the foundry to spend more $ on lunch.

Yelp
Wonderful views. The happy hour menu was great- not a lot of vegetarian options, but it was wonderful to take in the views. I can't wait to go back and try even more of the great drinks and food!

Yelp
Expat BBQ is another stellar addition to Gerard Craft's lineup, and as usual, I'm here to show some love! Watch me turn a BBQ joint into my own little salad haven. The kale salad was delicious, fresh, and topped with some crunchy stuff that I could eat by itself. I saved the mac and cheese opting out of the chicken skin. It was creamy and comforting but a little spicy which I loved. The rooftop location at the City Foundry is a total win too, Perfect for a casual yet elevated dining experience!

Yelp
Service was amazing. Drinks, on point. Space, large, but not noisy. Tips for your visit, you can order from a smaller menu if you want to go to the upstairs patio. I think if we knew that we would have gone that way. We arrived on a Friday evening and Expat had only been open a few weeks. We were able to get seated right away. Excited about trying new flavors we jumped right in with a grilled cucumber salad. It seemed like a lot of people had this on their tables. I hope everyone enjoyed it. It seemed odd to me as an appetizer, like maybe it should be more of a side. There just wasn't a lot to it. It did come out of the kitchen very quickly... then we had to wait for 45 minutes for our entrees. After much deliberation, I landed on the smoked half chicken, I wanted to get something different than my partner. He got the brisket. The food was good, but after 45 minutes we were hoping for AMAZING. We could be completely wrong, but we were leaning towards, smoked meats are usually ready already, just put the sides together and the plate is ready. So maybe that is just not how Expat is set up. The ambiance of the dining room, bbq in the title, menu style, none of this lead us to believe this would be a long dinner. I did say something to the manager that dropped off our food, and he made it right. But I don't want people looking up reviews and thinking this is an average bbq place. I do hope they are able to speed that up in the future. We will give them some time, maybe this snag was just a growing curve. Definitely visit if you are good to hang out!

Yelp
A Complete Waste of Time, The worst experience ever!!!!! NEVER MAKE A RESERVATION AND BETTER YET DO NOT PATRONIZE THIS PLACE. What was meant to be an enjoyable outing for Father's Day; with a secured reservation, slowly became a disappointment, total waste of time and the realization, we didn't matter. We waited, entirely unattended, for an astonishing 61 minutes. During this time, not a single staff member approached our table to provide information about outdoor seating, offer water, or even acknowledge our increasingly patient attempts to get their attention. To add insult to injury, you pay for your meal from your table before the food is placed with the kitchen. We observed multiple tables, who sat down after us, 2 with larger parties than our 3-person party, and none looked like "us". They all received prompt and considerate service, their needs met with a level of efficiency and courtesy that was categorically denied to "us." What was most disappointing, however, was the utter lack of accountability from the staff. We had to catch a waiter that had just served one of the tables that arrived after us, and he said; "your food should be coming right up". 15 mins later we spoke with, what appeared to be a manager, and she said; with an attitude, I might add, "let me find out what's going on", to no avail. At the 55 min mark we finally had enough and were leaving, but wandered around to find a manager and be assured our food was refunded. We were approached by a "manager", who offered no logical reason or real apology. All we were told, "your order got lost", we can have it up for you right away"...I looked at him in total disbelief. I politely asked for a refund and asked if he was serious? He had no concerning apology, no recognition of the inconvenience, nor any gesture of compensation or to make a mends for the inordinate amount of time we spent waiting. Plain and simple, our experience was just a disregard for the basic standards of customer care. It was as if our presence was an inconvenience rather than an opportunity to provide hospitality. If you value your time, I urge you to eat elsewhere. This was a total waste of time that left us with the distinct impression that customer satisfaction is not even remotely a priority here. A textbook example of how not to treat a customer. I recommend avoiding this place if you appreciate efficiency, respect, or even the simplest gesture of politeness. There is nothing redeeming about a service that wastes your time and can't even muster an apology. nichefoodgroup eatpastaria.com pastariadeliwine brasseriebyniche bowoodbyniche

Yelp
I wanted to love this place, but it's really a disappointment. Despite them being short staffed, we did receive good service from the hostess and our waiter. The inside of this place is really nice, well lit, and clean, but the food is lackluster. I ordered a brass burger with fries. The burger was alright, but the fries were a little hard. It took about 15 minutes for us to relieve or food, which wasn't bad. In my opinion, the menu is very limited and a little overpriced on some of the food selections. If they can give a boost in flavor, then I think it would overall improve the quality of the food here. I would be willing to give them another try...

Yelp
Finally made it out to expat and it was wonderful It is multiple levels inside the foundry with the main floor being a rather nice dining room that would make a great date spot. It was empty about 3:30 on a Sunday afternoon so the servers got me in and out quick with a to go order. They were all super nice and friendly. I went with the briskey sandwich and waffle fries. The brisket was cubed and seasoned really well. Expat offering global flavors to traditional bbq so the flavors are unique to Is a wonderful concept and way to switch up the norm. A really solid spot that I am excited to get back to
google avatar

Yelp
This place was surprisingly delicious! I got their Expat burger which was a juicy patty with tender brisket and pickles, sauce, cheese. It came with these DELICIOUS shoestring fries which I gobbled up. My friends tried the brisket platter which came with as delicious and tend brisket, lots of BBQ variety sauces and a side. We also tried their wings and they were spicy and SOOOO good!! Definitely would come back for the food but I will say that the service was SLOOWWWWW - our server took 10+ minutes to greet us which was a little frustrating because they weren't that busy but they did come around and pour us waters while we waited. Definitely could update their wait staff or let us know it would be a while.

Yelp
Secret magical rooftop patio that's shaded all day. Big fans for the summer with fire pits and heaters for the chilly nights. Big TVs for sports nights, live music to set the vibe. Attentive staff who are happy to help. Interesting international spin on BBQ for the menu. Cant wait to bring more people here and share this gem.

Yelp
I visited expat BBQ twice recently. I visited their dining from before they officially opened and then went to their rooftop terrace during opening weekend. Expats BBQ offers a wide variety of both bbq and beverages that are inspired by other foreign cuisines. In their main dining room they offer a full menu and on the rooftop they offer burgers and sandwiches. There is a full bar in both the dinning room and rooftop terrace and they offer a variety of craft cocktails, domestic and foreign beer, wine, and NA beers and cocktails. I was very pleased during both of my visits. I've been able to try a variety of items off their menu including their jerk chicken wings, waffle fries with fry sauce, dia's cheese bread, tigers blood shaved ice, Afghani lamb pork shoulder sandwich, and a Ghia NA aperitif soda. All of the food was amazing! The jerk chicken wings are definitely something to write home about. The portions were huge and the wings had a nice savory-sweet flavor. The waffle fries were crisp and well seasoned. The tigers blood shaved ice was a watermelon flavored shaved ice with condensed milk and was a refreshing dessert. Finally, the lamb sandwich was a perfectly flavored sandwich with the white yogurt sauce. The dinning room vibes are industrial yet modern and the rooftop vibes were modern yet cozy. They had multiple TVs playing the STL city soccer game which was a nice touch! The staff was very attentive and frequently checking to make sure that we were okay. I look forward to coming back and spending a night watching some sports on their rooftop terrace!

Yelp
WOW! Expat might be the new spot to be at! The vibes are so cute and everything we had was delicious. My partner and I sat at the bar and were attended by the lovely Ryan and other helpful bartenders. We started off with the white Negroni and a glass of wine. For food, we both ordered the lamb and they were delicious! I had a side of waffle fries and fell in love with the fry sauce. My partner ordered his lamb with a side of the jalapeño mac n cheese and it was equally delightful. Not too spicy yet still left a bit of a burn. We decided we'll have to go back another time for dessert and enjoy their patio soon!

Yelp
When my husband's first words are "oh wow, I didn't expect that!" You know it's a winner! The cultural twists on each menu item are a pleasant surprise to your taste buds. The chicken sandwich was tasty but the beef brisket was absolutely amazing! Fries were delicious and the potato salad was flavorful yet refreshing. Would love to come back and try the lamb. Nice happy hour also!

Yelp
It's a pretty good vibe in the indoor seating with lots of room and cool more private areas for some tables. A mixture of the industrial decor of the foundry with really cool postcard posters on the main wall. The staff is super nice and accommodating! We came and worked on our laptops for a little while. The pulled chicken sandwich was delicious with the Ethiopian pickled veggies! The brisket was good but wish it had some more juice. The fries are great!

Yelp
A different take on bar b q by one of St Louis's best chefs and one of the best restaurant groups (Kraft- Niche). Great food. Great cocktails. Cool vibe.

Yelp
Have been here three times in the last few months and it has been getting better every time! The space is gorgeous and is a great addition to city foundry. The service is great. The barbecue is amazing!! Last time we got the sampler which I think is the way to go because you can try everything! We also got the fried pickles and Brazilian rolls which are TO DIE FOR.

Yelp
I was really conflicted on what to rate this place, but I settled on a 3.5 overall. The service deserves 5+ stars. The staff is attentive and helpful. However, the food is very overpriced for what it is. The flavors are very unique and lives up to the expat name, but this is not a place I'd go to if I wanted BBQ. We paid $80 for paper boat plates and no real BBQ sauce. I think the cornbread should be served warm and the best thing we tried are the wings and cheese curds. I'd go here if I want to experience something new but I'd stick to my local BBQ spots if I want some BBQ.

Yelp
My fiancé and I came here for the first time a few days ago and enjoyed our meal at Expat! We had been wanting to go for some time and we finally went during one of the colder evenings this past week. Barbecue is an excellent comfort meal to have during a cold winter night! Our server was very friendly and helpful with her recommendations as well! We both enjoyed our entrees and look forward to coming back with friends! I definitely recommend making room for dessert because the Shaved Tiger Ice is incredible and super refreshing!

Yelp
We were excited to try this new BBQ place out based on how large it is! 3 stories - pretty wild. Overall, the food was decent. The pulled pork sandwich was well made and the sauce options were intriguing. There is something for every palate. The Mac and cheese was just okay... as were the fries. The service was a bit slow, our food took a while to arrive and one of the drink refills was never delivered. But if you are in the city foundry and craving BBQ, it's a good spot to check out. Otherwise, I would maybe prioritize other BBQ spots. The space is quite large and spacious, we were seated on the main floor, so I'd be curious how the terrace experience is different. It is well decorated and aesthetically pleasing.

Yelp
My friends and I visited Expat on a Friday for lunch the other day. Their lunch dining experience is located upstairs and once you arrive, you place your order at the kiosk which was super easy to do. Their lunch menu is limited, but they still had some good options to choose from and offered a good variety. After ordering our food, we visited the bar to order some drinks. While they have a full bar, we opted for water (self serve) and soft drinks. The bartender was super friendly and helpful. It was not too busy, so were were able to find a table quickly and a few minutes later, our food was brought up to us. The server brings the food upstairs and then you are notified by a text when it is ready for pick up at the counter. I forgot to take photos of the food, but I had the pulled-spice chicken sandwich with a side of waffle fries. I was worried that the sandwich would be too spicy, but it was just the right amount of heat. I know they provided some dipping sauces too, but I can't remember what they were. I do remember enjoying them, especially with the fries. My friends ordered other sandwiches and someone ordered the Mac and cheese which was delish and super creamy! I can't wait to order that next time. This is a great new space in the foundry and I bet the dinner experience will be excellent so I can't wait to visit again soon.

Yelp
It's pretty decent, I was expecting more. It has a unique taste for sure. The chipotle sauce on the side for the wings was the highlight for me. Next time I will get fries instead of the mac for a side. The service was good, I like how you can order from the table. The patio was nice to eat on as well

Yelp
Good Service, decent food, a little bit pricey but I would recommend. The cheese curds were amazing.

Yelp
We caught the happy hour and an unexpected game of trivia! Decided to sit out side on the rooftop. It was a goodnight for it. Food and drinks were delicious! The honey drizzled cheese curds were delish. Will definitely get those again. Staff was friendly and helpful.

Yelp
The happy hour here is amazing. It's amazing this place isn't completely packed. I had the opportunity to come when it wasn't so packed (Wednesday afternoon) and we ended up having an excellent conversation with the bartender who was a great host.

Yelp
We came here for lunch on a Saturday. This three story space is massive. They have you go to the top floor terrace to place your order. I couldn't decide between the lamb sandwich and the brisket sandwich so my daughter and I split them. They have you order at a kiosk or at the counter. Once it's ready they will bring it to you. Now I know the brisket is way better. The food was okay but I couldn't find a good bbq sauce after trying 3. I really wish the brisket was cooked in a good bbq sauce. Overall it was decent and I would come back to sit on the patio terrace again.

Yelp
The ambiance of this place is amazing. Try to score one of the off rooms. Highly recommend Dias Cheese Bread to start off with. I got the pulled Vietnamese spice pork which was great. My wife got the Twice Smoked Sweet Potato and it was so good, but the showstopper was the desserts. We shared the ice cream shaved ice cream sundae and the baklava blondie which were both to die for. Service was incredible. Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Cool restaurant with interesting food. Upstairs/patio is a great spot for group drinks and happy hours

Yelp
I'm still thinking about the Chopped Lamb Shoulder and that Thai-inspired Pulled Pork -- juicy, tender, and packed with flavor you won't find anywhere else in the STL BBQ scene. This place is doing something completely different, and it works. What really impressed me was how inclusive the menu is. You can sub Harvest Shreds (plant-based protein) for any of the meats, and it actually holds up. They season it just like the original, and if no one told you, you might not even notice it's vegan. Of course, I had to get the Brass Burger -- it's legendary for a reason. And for sides? The Mac n' Cheese and Baked Black Beans are next-level. I also had one of the best Old Fashioneds I've had in a while. Their bar program is seriously on point. Atmosphere-wise: open, modern, energetic but not too loud. Great for a casual night out or something more social. And the patio? One of the best in the city when the weather cooperates. Already planning my next visit -- bringing more friends so we can order half the menu.

Yelp
We came here a couple of weeks ago with a large party of 8. I loved the design of the restaurant with large open industrial spaces and great styling. They sat us quickly on the 1st floor and we were greeted by the server. We started with cocktails and a few appetizers: dia's bread, crab dip, and the jerk wings. All the apps were great and the wings were pretty spicy from what I heard (I'm not a big wing fan). I ordered the cowboy burger which had excellent flavor and a good size. The rest of my party got the brass burger, brisket sandwich, and mostaccioli. Everyone enjoyed their meals except they were that impressed by the black beans as a side. We also order two kids cheese burger meals and were very impressed with the portion. We will definitely be coming back for more family meals and to check out the terrace!

Yelp
Tried for the first time. Mac&Cheese better than I expected. Cornbread and Brisket good.
