3 Days in the Loire Valley, On the Trail of Châteaux

"Nicolas Aubry, previously Christophe Hay's executive chef, has now taken over the reins of his mentor's restaurant. The decor has not been changed and it is a pleasure to be back in this modern space with a view into the kitchen. Organised into single set menus that take their cue from the seasons and from produce sourced in the Loire region, the finely crafted dishes are expressions of his delicate cuisine, which may be subtle but has bags of personality." - Michelin Inspector

We had a wonderful stay at this charming hotel located in a small but very welcoming village. We chose it for its excellent location—just a 10-minute drive from Chambord—and couldn’t have been happier. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel incredibly welcome with their warmth and hospitality.||The accommodation was modern, exceptionally comfortable, and created a truly relaxing atmosphere. Breakfast was outstanding, made even better by a friendly and attentive host who made each morning feel special. The on-site restaurant was a highlight, exceeding our expectations with beautifully presented dishes full of rich, memorable flavors.||We highly recommend this hotel and would gladly return!

Let me preface this review by saying that I wanted to love this place. I mean I really wanted to love this place. Especially since we dined here back in 2018 with Christophe Haye and now we were returning to taste and experience the magic of chef Nicolas Aubry. But what an utter disappointment. It kills me to say that but it's true. And I'm not one of those people who pretend everything is perfect during the meal and then turn around and write a negative review. I did share my dissatisfaction at the end of the meal, as we were paying the bill. Didn't make any difference. The staff really couldn't care less. They were nice enough and polite during the meal service (and Vincent did indeed choose the perfect wine pairings with each course) but overall just apathetic and not very attentive. This is a one Michelin star?? Too many mistakes and lack of enthusiasm for a one star. People go to a restaurant to be welcomed into someone else's home. Chef Nicolas' home felt like I had just stepped into a house where mommy and daddy had gotten into a fight and the atmosphere was cold and awkward. Very strange. No passion toward the food. No life. No warmth. So disappointing.

I am reviewing the restaurant and would like to say that the food was out of this world. My husband and I travel the world to taste food and we are not easily impressed. This restaurant is incredible and we will return for sure.

We read some wonderful reviews about this restaurant and decided to try and get a table on very short notice. The lady on the phone couldn’t have been nicer and her friendly and helpful response set the tone for our lunch there. The food we got to enjoy was truly wonderful. From the amuse bouche (the asparagus mousse was our favourite, followed by the tarte train of onion). There was a wonderful flaky bun with sea salt and lime zest. Next came possibly the best vegetarian entree I’ve ever tasted. Zucchini in all its textures, as a mousse, tartare, purée, coulis … magical, then came a fillet of whiting, beautifully cooked with a herb mousseline and cabbage rolls and finally a vanilla soufflé with elderflower sorbet airy as a soufflé should be but still some texture complemented by this lovely refreshing sorbet. Special mention also to our wonderful waiter who recommended some great wines to go with our menu. We loved it and highly recommend it.

A very well designed menu: the 5 course dinner was delicious and refreshing in its flavors. The wine pairing featured unexpected wines of multiple french regions and with unique characteristics. the service was stellar and the team was really well trained as well as speaking a perfect English when explaining the different dishes. A great experience overall.

Outstanding restaurant with a fresh and surprising take on modern French food. Best meal we had in France. It is a fresh and crisply modern interior with a tranquil and quiet vibe. I know value isn’t usually the focus of these types of venues but it’s worth mentioning. We went for the 3 course lunch option which was very good value. They say 3 courses but it was at least 7 by the time you include all the extra complimentary dishes. If you want to try a Michelin star restaurant but don’t want to fork out for a full degustation, this lunch menu is a fantastic option.
