"Fans of the St. Agrestis Phony Negronis know how frustrating it is that there’s no database of local bars to scout them out. In the meantime, we’re pleased to report that this all-day spot stocks three different kinds. But if you can’t get behind the bitterness, you could drink a fancy latte, or a lemonade sweetened with toasted sugar. Best part is, Fable’s mood is slightly more energetic than in a morning cafe, but not as raucous as a bar. And with a 9pm closing time, you can be in bed before 10." - aimee rizzo
"The all-day cafe and bar in Beacon Hill announced it will close for the month of February to "figure itself out," explaining on Instagram: "We believe that to be successful in this time without sacrificing our values, our hospitality, service, and offerings need to be exceptional. After much self-reflection, it’s apparent that our current offerings and service don’t fully fulfill on our values. Increased pressures from recent changes in the economics of doing business in Seattle, paired with the onslaught of traditional challenges faced by the hospitality industry, make limping along in the red each month and offering something just ‘good enough’ untenable." "The fact that we’ve witnessed the most aggressive hand-holding of all time at this Beacon Hill cafe should be evidence enough that it’s soulmate-searching material. Fable’s customizability works well—you could both sip velvety toffee mochas and split a cookie, pop open some pét-nat at the marble counter, or people-watch on a sidewalk seat with a couple of canned hop waters. "If you're in the market for a daytime WFH headquarters, plan to meet up with a friend for coffee, or require a casual 4pm date fueled by natural wine and light snacks, Fable is a great place to make part of your Beacon Hill shortlist. Their menu involves the usual suspects like salads and sandwiches, but we're fans of their breakfast sandwich, loaded with chicken sausage and sweet-hot mustard that gets along nicely with arugula and pillowy Sea Wolf brioche. "We wish that every date started with a cappuccino and ended with Gamay and a cheese board. This bright coffee shop in Fremont doubles as a wine bar, which makes any bean-to-grape transition pretty seamless. There’s a great selection of wines by the glass here, but if you like the looks of a bottle on the front wall display, you can buy it for the shelf price plus a $10 corkage fee. That’s way cheaper than ordering one at a restaurant, so you should just go ahead and splurge on that chicory salad, too." - aimee rizzo
