New Coffee Shop Fairgrounds Opens in Highland Park Next Week - Eater Dallas

"Chicago export Fairgrounds Coffee & Tea, a coffee shop known for its dazzling array of craft-roasted coffee beans, will officially make its debut in Highland Park next week. It's a destination for serious coffee nerds, who can choose from a dozen different types of beans from craft roasteries from all over the country. In Dallas, local roasters Ascension and Greater Goods will be available at the 'brew bar.' In addition to the coffee, Fairgrounds also boasts a lengthy menu of kombuchas, juices, 'elixirs,' and fancy teas. A tight menu of food options will also be on offer for breakfast and lunch." - Amy McCarthy

Absolutely loved my visit to Fairgrounds! I ordered the Cafe du Miel and it was delicious—perfectly balanced and comforting. The vibes were spot on: cozy, upbeat, and welcoming. Huge shoutout to the manager, who was fantastic and made the experience even better. Can’t wait to come back!

Google
Of all of the coffee shops I have been to, Fairgrounds Craft Coffee and Tea is one that I will continue to return to. The staff has been the most inviting and understanding. Taylor makes the best lattes on this side of Dallas and is always looking for ways to perfect her craft , Cristina and Raemi are extremely personable at the counter and don't hesitate to help with key suggestions, and Mars is always creating an amazing brunch for customers. The team couldn't have been better assembled, and this place is a landmark in a great location. Right across from Trader Joe's, you can do your shopping, then come for a chill Honey Lavender Latte, a personal favorite. Their snack options are well made, but the personality, inviting nature, and great options are amazing. Kindest group around making amazing lattes, serving great food, and creating an understanding and inviting atmosphere. 10/10, and I will be back as long as I am in Dallas.

Google
Delicious coffee and drinks. Veggie breakfast sandwich we had was a bit dry and plain on flavor but would try other dishes in future but definitely recommend for the coffee and lattes! Great vibes inside and outside seating also.

This place is different than any others I’ve been to the set up so serene beautifully landscaped on the outside awesome patio. Go inside and it’s just as inviting and warm very cozy I really like the vibe here! Soooo many choices in the cooler case Matcha chia pudding, overnight oats , yogurt, fresh fruits, takeaways for lunch and cold drinks. The Coffee menu is great and if you don’t see what you want explain it they will figure it out great customer service here ! Food Selection is amazing Breakfast, lunch , up until 6 pm . I seem to get lucky I go early either before the gym or after yoga .. Derrick is always there he’s so friendly and creates some of the best coffees I’ve ever had such attention to detail! It’s nice to see someone who actually likes their job refreshing! Definitely brings you back here! And I love their different food offerings impossible burrito it is sooo good!Matcha chia pudding, avocado toast, salad, egg dishes have all been delicious! Vegetarian options are a bonus for me!! Coffee this good it’s definitely on my regular stop !!!

Google
Was looking for a good coffee place in the area, and this one is by far the best!! I’ve been to many coffee shops in Dallas but the environment of this once was something else. The guy working was so incredibly nice and extremely happy to help us. The coffee as well is very good, not just a basic latte. Love this place would definitely recommend if you love coffee and nice people!

Google
Location is nice place to sit and enjoy the day. However, I am giving it a 3 stars bc the honey matcha latte I bought was underwhelming. It did not taste like matcha at all. I could only taste the milk which was pretty upsetting after paying $6.50 for the drink

Jamie Trujillo

Google
The drinks are unique and delicious! I had the shaken iced tea, lemonade, and my wife had the iced shaken espresso with agave. Derek was super friendly, and treated us with the best hospitality. I definitely recommend this place to anyone and everyone!

Google
Love this place and neighborhood. They already know me there 😅 The staff is great. The place has long windows, so you get lots of natural lighting and get to people watch. Also the food is way better than you would expect for a coffee shop. I always order the fire roasted chicken sandwich.

Yelp
Good and friendly service. The food and drinks are good too. I like how there's a lot of seating inside and outside. Though the stools by the window are a bit uncomfortable, they're a kind of high up with no foot support. The cafe gets busier after lunch time. Most of the indoor tables were filled.
google avatar

Jayci G.

Yelp
Chai latte - the flavor isn't great and it's pretty watered down (milked down?). Matcha latte - better than the chai latte but a little sweetness would go a long way. Great, fast service. A bit pricey.

Yelp
FOOD INSTAGRAM: @northtx.gemz **** WHAT THEY'RE KNOWN FOR: spacious coffee shop. A huge staple for local Dallas people. THE VIBE: lots of space to WFH or study. Super busy spot on the weekends especially in the morning/afternoon time. Parking is questionable. PRICE: ~$15 WOULD I COME BACK? Yes! **** Overall Rating: 9/10 - One of the best dirty chais I have! It wasn't super overwhelming with the cinnamon and spices but perfectly balanced with the coffee. I believe something about the drink was house made which made it special and taste better (I just forgot it's been weeks since I had this lol). Overall, Customer service was great and I would definitely come back but the parking is I believe on the street.

Yelp
The blended cold brew with caramel was so bomb! it was refreshing and perfect for this summer heat. not too sweet either and it was good. I see this all the time shopping at trader joes across the street. Decided to stop in one day before walking the katy trail and I'm so glad I stopped in.

Yelp
Great breakfast tacos, coffee, matcha, and açaí bowls!! Easy go-to place for breakfast!
google avatar

Thomas P.

Yelp
Very cool coffee shop. There is a range of coffee and sandwiches and baked goods. Staff is friendly. Has a really cool laid-back ambience. Caution that parking around here can be such a challenge. Even with the retail parking that is right across, it can get full.

Yelp
I stopped by Fairgrounds Coffee & Tea a few days ago just to get a sweet coffee. Immediately upon checking in, the cashier/barista was very unfriendly and short with me when I was trying to order. Since they do not have caramel macchiatos (the best they could do was a vanilla latte), I ordered the Vietnamese Cold Brew. This drink is supposed to be semi-sweet and creamy as it is made with condensed milk. The coffee, which was $7, was completely sour and bitter. It lacked any trace of sweetness, and I ended up tossing it when it was still 2/3 full. This is one of the notably worst drinks I have ever tried, and for the steep price of $7 (with a prompt to tip on top of that), I was incredibly disappointed. The coffee was just unpleasant and, to put it frankly, gross. I added a star because the establishment itself is pretty cute and themed well. But, I will not be returning and honestly if you're in the area, I would recommend just sticking with Starbucks.
google avatar

Yelp
Solid coffee and friendly service. I got a honey oat milk latte and enjoyed it. They have a large menu with many different options that I would like to come back and try.

Yelp
Found this place just walking about shopping. This place looks really cool inside. It's nice and bright. The coffee was really good. Nothing to write home about but still good. Service was also great. We were greeted at the door and also got our food and drinks out quick! Great place to take a break.
google avatar

Raymond M.

Yelp
Vietnamese cold brew was alright. Customer service was acceptable. Nice decor and quiet setting. Indoor and outdoor seating is available. You can park in the street or Trader Joe's.
google avatar

Yelp
Food was really yummy. Tater tots are the best !!!! Service exceptional, I order a side of chicken and they mistakenly put it on the grilled cheese, as soon as we told them they brought us the right item. We sat outside, the chairs could be a little more clean, but it was ok in general. Coffee wasn't the best (might've been what I ordered) but I definitely want to go back and try something else! Love this place !!

Machelle D.

Yelp
Love this place... it starts with the Amazing Inviting Front Patio ... Once inside it's Refreshing, Bright, Cheerful! It's Cozy with plants and Very Relaxed seating inside .. Menu is Awesome there's a Cooler for Grab and Go which offers Cold drinks , yogurts , over night oats, etc .. My Favorite is the Matcha and Chia Seed.. Then on to the Coffees and Food to Order ( I really like they don't charge extra for Alternative Milk) The Coffees hot or iced are Amazing and they will tweak it anyway you want !! Not like that everywhere you go! Customer Service here is Spot On!! Breakfast burritos with Impossible Sausage is Sooooo good! Huge Selection Here Something for Everyone... I gotta say Derrick is incredible he will find out what you want and don't .. and then create it he nails it !!! He's Mr. Customer Service always Friendly and Makes Sure your totally Satisfied.! I pass 4 Coffee shops in my neighborhood to go Here!!! Highly Recommend

Yelp
Good place to grab coffee and relax , solid prices, good service and clean. I usually come here for lunch and it's peaceful

Yelp
Thi is my favorite place for coffee and a breakfast item in Uptown/Knox St area. Try the cafe miele. This is an awesome hot coffee drink for fall/winter.
google avatar

Caroline K.

Yelp
Great location, right near the Katy trail, so you can take your coffee and walk or sit at one of their many indoor or outdoor tables. I tried a vanilla matcha latte and a latte on tap. The latte being on tap was cool, and it could be served instantly. It wasn't too sweet, so if you're a sweet coffee lover I would add some flavor. The matcha was fantastic, it wasn't overly earthy like some can be. Of all the coffee shops I've been to in the area, this is definitely my favorite!

B P.

Yelp
Breakfast sandwich is 90% bun. If the standard order only includes a small sprinkling of egg, include the option to add extra egg.

Yelp
Got to Dallas early to meet a friend for dinner. After an hour of traffic I really wanted a good cup of coffee. Found this gem close by so gave it a whirl. Everything on the menu sounded amazing but because of the time I went with a decaf pour over. Would definitely come back!
google avatar

Varsha V.

Yelp
The space is really cute and has a good amount of seating, between the patio and indoor seating. I really wasn't impressed by the coffee. I got a caramel latte, and it tasted like watered down espresso. I've been here previously 2 years ago, and it was very different, so not really sure what happened. Service was good!
google avatar

Brandi B.

Yelp
I finally tried this place after going to Trader Joe's often and seeing it across the street. The place itself is super cute. I was greeted immediately when I walked in which is always a plus. I looked for a seat and noticed that there were barely any outlets, I came here to work so I wasn't able to stay very long because of this so that was kind of disappointing. Being that it was my first time here I asked for a recommendation on food, the guy recommended the breakfast tacos and they were a 3/10. I gave it a 3 because they weren't stingy with the ingredients at all but the tacos were COLD, the salsa was as well and it wasn't as flavorful as I'd like being that it had so many ingredients. I got the Vietnamese iced coffee because it's always so good to me. However, when I got this one it wasn't sweet AT ALL, so I asked the lady what kind of milk she used and she said condensed so I was confused and she offered to make it sweeter, she did make it a little sweeter but it wasn't like the Vietnamese iced coffee that I'm use to. Their menu online doesn't reflect the prices inside AT ALL. Online my order should've been no more than $12 but my total ended up being $18 for breakfast that I didn't enjoy.

Yelp
The ONLY reason I gave this place four starts instead of five is because it feels like a literal OVEN in here. They have their thermostat at 81. I WISH I was kidding. It's just too hot in the summer here for that! We came in to cool off and I proceeded to sweat profusely the entire time. Otherwise...food and drinks here are AMAZING. Fast, friendly service and delicious menu items to choose from. It's all amazing in quality as well! Apologies as I cannot seem to recall the name of my fave drink here, but it is the pineapple purée/smoothie with matcha on top. Even my husband who HATES tea of any kind really liked this one! They use great quality matcha too - the real deal! I highly recommend it here if you don't get hot easily or if they crank up the AC ;) . Definitely check it out!
google avatar

Emily N.

Yelp
Located across from trader joes, fairgrounds is a coffeeshop with ample seating and menu items. I wasn't sure what I should get but luckily, the barista was able to help me out and make me my drink based on my request. This place had a great study/work vibe to it. The restrooms were clean and there was very good lighting inside the shop itself
google avatar

Yelp
Nitro on tap? Ceremonial matcha? Cold brew foam. Yes. They gotchu on all front. Side of chia pudding? Mhm. Maybe a baked good? Done-skies. They have sandwiches, too. It all just depends on your mood. Charming aesthetic what with the rope hung swings and Etch A Sketches that adorn the counter. Still and sparkling on tap alongside copper cups. (yes; like the ones you see for Moscow Mules). A great spot for a one-on-one or solo beast-mode-ing. Seating can be limited. Plug units can be found at the high stools near the windows. Parking can be found across the street in a Parking Garage also meant for Trader Joes and neighboring residences.
google avatar

Yelp
Received a matcha latte from one of my friends. It was made with milk and lavender. The lavender really brought out the matcha flavor, but the lavender wasn't overpowering. Matcha itself had good flavor, seemed high quality. Decided to go in to see the store myself one day. The store gave showroom, happy, bright vibes even in the early morning. I ordered an americano and it was average, not super bold, definitely mild tasting espresso. In this case, I think I did like the matcha better than the americano so if you are a matcha person, I would highly recommend trying it out. All in all, what really stood out to me was the service. The barista was super kind and welcoming and that went the longest way and was a great way to start my day! Thank you Fairgrounds!
google avatar

Yelp
Fairgrounds is my favorite coffee/cafe in my world. Hot almond latte is divine. Today I tried a cold latte on draft, and it was so good. Barista attitude is very important to me, and Fairgrounds has the market on this issue. They are nice, polite, patient, and a joy to see.
google avatar

Mel N.

Yelp
Small space. Around lunch time on a weekend it would be hard to get a spot with 2+ people. If it's just you, then you should be able to get some seating in the back and they have plugs. I found the menu to be a little confusing in terms of the build your own matcha / espresso, but seems to give people options. Definitely a big coffee place. Got one of the iced coffee drinks and reminded me of a Frappuccino. I wish there was more of a description of what the actual drink was because I didn't now it came topped with whipped cream. It was a little too sweet, but still decent.
google avatar

Mike S.

Yelp
For a coffee shop. This would be a quick and easy 5 stars. First, the obvious. The coffee there is if a very high quality (please don't say Starbucks has high quality coffee :) ). The presentation of the coffee is also very nice with pretty cups. Feels like something you expect in Europe. The service was very good with nice employees, polite, and explain items on menu when needed. I personally did not eat that day, but looking at the sandwiches on the plate of others (yes yea, staring at someone's plate is rude. We will ignore this part for now :) ), food looks amazingly delicious. For sure going back to try it out. They have indoor and outdoor. Both have a very nice and lovely ambiance. Especially the indoor area.

Yelp
This has been on our list of coffee shops for a while and we finally got the chance to stop in. We picked this one today because the patio looked like a good spot to read and enjoy the morning. Upon entering the shops was very cute I loved the swings at the counter! I prefer menus that have premade flavored lattes but since they didn't I opted for a Carmel shot add in. We ordered food and found the menu and prices did not reflect what was on their website. Almost all the food items were $3 more then the menu on the website. It was about $40 for two for a coffee and breakfast item each which I thought was a bit expensive compared to other shops in the area. Both our coffees were good and so was the food but nothing to write home about. What really brought my review down was the patio we were so looking forward too. All the comfortable patio furniture was broken. Chairs sagging in the middle, cushions stained and dirty. The whole patio smelled slightly like pee and at least three people threw their dog poop in the garbage can right next to our table. Between that and the prices we weren't expecting we probably will not be back again.

Yelp
This spot is superb fun and coool. It literally has swings at the coffee bar. Its located right across from traders joe. I been here a handle full of times and it really gets PACKED. Smart to download the app and order ahead! The times I have been here, I ordered - Sammie's breakfast - one of my faves got it 3x already Matcha Nitro - hmmm questionable. It wasnt like what the picture depicted. But hey I like matcha Matcha latte - wasn't sweet but you can taste the matcha (can be acquired taste) Vanilla latte - good I planned to come by if in the area. It has a cute hang out patio outside. The inside can be crowded at times. There is parking across from the coffee shop. The garage or street parking if you can find any. Wifi is provided!

Syd R.

Yelp
First time here and I enjoyed the peach blossom white tea iced with a little honey. Really nice barista Josh who was so kind when I asked to see the tea ingredients for health/dietary restriction reasons. Enjoyed the vibes. Not a ton of seating inside but enjoyed it nonetheless. Music may be a little loud if you're hoping to study or making a phone call. Lots of outdoor seating available. Cute little copper cups for water at the water station. Seems to be kept pretty clean! Fun little decor features like a fake fireplace. Located in the wonderful Knox st area. Free parking in the garage across the street next to Trader Joe's. Hope to try the coffee in the future. Don't feel like I can give 5 stars yet without trying it. Bathroom has cute wall stickers of other coffee shops. Floor needs a good scrub though. The bathroom I used was a little icky.
google avatar

Toni M.

Yelp
Great coffee shop to work, read, or just hang out with a friend. Food is good, coffee is good and seating is super comfortable. Indoor and outdoor seating options.
google avatar

Kelly M.

Yelp
Came here on a girls trip because they advertised coffee flights. When we showed up, we were informed that the flights are no longer available. The espresso grinder was broke, so you do not have your choice of espresso either. The staff wasn't particularly friendly. The place was crowded with a low key vibe. The swings at the bar was a very cute addition. Ordered the ice chocolate truffle mocha with almond milk. The ice coffee had limited ice and was not cold. By the time it chilled all the ice was melted and the drink was water downed. We ended up throwing out the drink about halfway through. For $6, skip it and walk across the street and get a cold brew concentrate from Trader Joe's.
google avatar

Aryelle S.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place. The white peach tea is phenomenal and the atmosphere is super cute. It's nice to sit outside on a warm day!
google avatar

Kaitlyn O.

Yelp
This was my first time at Fairgrounds and I was so impressed! I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the staff that worked here. They had unique drink options that were fun to try. There is actually a surprising amount of space inside and even more outside. There were plenty of unique details here that make this place a fun and enjoyable, I would take someone here that is visiting from out of town for sure! The area around is also fun and convenient. There is shopping and a trader joes right across the street. Fairgrounds is a great addition to the area and I am excited to come back! Boyfriend hot chocolate rating- 9/10 !
google avatar

Yelp
We absolutely loved our first time experience today. The staff was very friendly & knowledgeable. Excellent coffee & food. I highly recommend!

Yelp
Always such a great experience. And they fixed the potatoes! Great job y'all. Thanks for always taking great care of me and Daphne. She gives the pup cup 5 stars as well.
google avatar

Keli M.

Yelp
Great coffee spot! I love the swinging seats at the counter. Plenty of seating both indoor and outdoor, and the staff is always friendly. Today I was adventurous and tried the Tumeric Ginger Chai. Chef's kiss
google avatar

Aradhna A.

Yelp
Great spot! Quite busy for a weekday but overall it was a great place to read my book a bit prior to my day off errands. I got the avocado toast and a simple black coffee. The avocado toast was great! It was tasted fresh. I'm not a huge fan of the pickled red onion people seem to be placing on avocado toast, but it was tolerable. The coffee was good, but not amazing. The atmosphere is nice, with couches, tables, bar seating as well as outdoor seating. Update: came back with a friend after the wonderful gift card offer! This time we tried the breakfast sandwiches and they were *phenomenal*. I definitely would recommend those!
google avatar

Hannah H.

Yelp
Great spot for a coffee or a light bite. They have a variety of drinks. My favorites include trying their cold brew and kombucha flights--so fun! I've also enjoyed their frozen matcha and pineapple drink. Their food is spectacular for a coffee shop. The breakfast tacos are very filling :)
google avatar

Roma B.

Yelp
Cute new coffee shop right across from the Trader Joe's on Cole Avenue! There's street parking or parking in the garage across the street. Open from 6am - 6pm everyday and wifi provided. The outdoor seating area is a perfect place to study when the weather is nice. The indoor area is smaller, but just as cozy and chic. They have a large variety of teas to choose from too. I got the peach blossom white tea and it was so flavorful. Will definitely be coming back!
google avatar

Grace P.

Yelp
Cute coffee shop with tons of tables!! Huge matcha and espresso menu that allows you to create exactly what you want!
google avatar

Valerie T.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this little gem! The vibe was really cute and quiet, perfect for a Saturday morning chill spot, or any morning for that matter
google avatar

Adriana C.

Yelp
Cute ambiance but more importantly bomb food and coffee. The staff are super nice and welcoming too
google avatar

Guillermo C.

Yelp
Great coffee and tea selection and plenty of outdoor/indoor seating. The big windows make the space come alive with natural lighting which is a nice departure from a darker spot.
google avatar

Kari L.

Yelp
I only had a coffee here but was impressed with the friendly staff, vibe and coffee. First time experiencing more than just nitro draft coffee! They had a variety of flavors and types. They also had two kombuchas and blueberry tea on draft. I really enjoyed the draft latte. They have a nice sized patio, dog friendly, in addition to seating options inside. Happy I found this spot :)
google avatar

Jacqueline T.

Yelp
Seriously such and fun and cool shop! I was looking for a new place to try in an area I haven't been yet and this shop popped up. Having my daughter with me and going to a place that has cute little swings in it made for such a fun and unexpected experience for her. There's plenty of seating inside, but their outdoor area is huge! There's not a bad seat in the place and the esthetic is so gorgeous, but we definitely went to sit on the patio too to check out the open space! The parking situation is not all that great, but there's some street parking and we happened to get really lucky with a spot close by. We ended up going to Trader Joe's afterwards too so that made our visit to the area very much so worth it! I ordered a lavender latte with oat milk and it was great! Super nice customer service too!
google avatar

Cara W.

Yelp
Came here for the first time back in June, and now have come a few times in September. This place is fantastic! Great vibes, good coffee drink options as well as food options. The music is very nice and there is a ton of indoor and outdoor seating too. Also, it's not freezing cold! Which is a huge plus when compared with other Dallas coffee shops. However, beware: there are no outlets inside.
google avatar

Ryan I.

Yelp
great atmosphere great food and great coffee - love the pour over.

Yelp
The iced coffee was really good, and the breakfast sandwich was yummy. Love this place!

Yelp
Very cool spot with a variety of coffee /food. Can't give more than 2 stars for the service. We ordered 2 burritos that came out in 15 min that both were cold in the middle. But the fact it took 30 minutes for a hot coffee blows my mind when the food came that quick. They also didn't announce the name on the coffee they just set it out amongst the others and I had no way of knowing it was with my same order. I bet during the week it's a great experience. Hopefully the service improves on weekends.
