I swung by here for dinner with friends on a whim and was pleasantly surprised. Service here was good, but not as attentive as I would have liked (I had to ask them repeatedly for things such as water or an extra plate). We ordered their dumplings, truffle XLB, beef pancake, ho fun, and cumin lamb. I thought both dumplings were good but the skin was too thick and the truffle in the truffle XLB wasn't very fragrant. I loved the beef roll/pancake, however. I was super flavorful and both savory and sweet, with lots of meat and sauce. The ho fun was alright. Although it was full of shrimp, the noodles were very soft and fell apart easily (it felt overcooked). The cumin lamb was also way too salty for my liking and required rice to enjoy it with. Overall, I think there are better Szechuan spots but they do have some good menu items.

Google
A great spot for some really authentic and delicious Szechuan food. It’s rare that every dish you try at a restaurant is solid, but this was honestly our experience, and we ordered 8 things. My favorite dishes were the Chili Oil Braised Fish and the Peking Duck. The fish filets were so tender and flavorful. Don’t let the color fool you, the dish was spicy but not too numbing, so still enjoyable to eat. The Peking Duck also blew me away. It’s hard to find a solid, authentic Peking Duck in Manhattan and this was really delicious paired with the thin pancake wrappers and hoisin sauce. I also really enjoyed the dishes we got and truly think you can’t go wrong with what you order. The Garlic Eggplant- saucy and delicious. The Cumin Lamb- packed with flavor, if you don’t like cilantro maybe don’t order this, but I loved it. The Crispy Sweet and Sour Shredded Beef- I’ve never had this dish before but was pleasantly surprised. A bit like orange chicken vibes, a bit citrusy, nice and crispy. For apps, we had few small plates. The scallion pancakes were a hit, savory and crispy with a nice light and umami dipping sauce. The Dan Dan Noodles were nice and chewy, and the sauce was quite numbing! I do think the noodles and the cold jelly dish could have used a bit more depth in flavor though, but still enjoyed them as they offered contrast to the rest of our meal. The restaurant itself feels like a nice Chinese restaurant with sleek interior. Service was really quick and friendly. Highly recommend!

Google
The restaurant is close by the hotel we staying in NY, so we had few dinners here. There are good variety of dishes. The food generally decent and delicious, great for the Chinese appetite. Restaurant setting is nice, comfortable seats, friendly servers and the dishes are up to standard to Chinese. Recommend to try out.

Google
This was close to our hotel, we stumbled in on a friday night and was seated right away. Service was good, the servers were prompt and friendly. Food came out fast. There were 4 of us and shared 5 meals. The peking duck was the best - perfectly crispy, with the delicate wrapper, veggies and sauce. The eggplant was also good. The Xiao Long Bao was ok, the wrapper was really thick so you're just chewing the wrapper most of the time. The pork belly was good but the fermented veggies uderneath was not for me, and I'm someone who likes fermented things. Overall, still solid. Food comes out to $35 per person.

Google
Went to experience the food and vibes at this restaurant and I was absolutely blown away and warmly touch with every moment I spent here. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. The dishes was insanely delicious and all round the atmosphere was amazing

Google
We had dinner there last night. Food was good. Cocktails were horrible. It looked nothing like the photos on menu. They didn't even bother putting a piece of mint in it.

Google
10/10, food is fresh and bright, service is impeccable. Everything is clean. Ordered garlic eggplant and the lamb cumin dishes. Plus the shrimp dumplings. The flavor, color and quality of the food was amazing. Just check the pics 😎

With a massive menu that caters to all spice levels ,there's truly something for everyone. The cozy decor and warm vibes make it perfect for any occasion

Yelp
We kicked off our lunch with the Crystal Shrimp Dumplings, which were like little pockets of heaven (light, fresh, and delicate). Then we tried the Thinly Sliced Cucumber and Pork, it was my first time trying this and I almost ate the whole row by myself. The Traditional Fried Rice was comforting and crispy. The Szechuan Peppercorn Fish Fillet was a tender and also made our mouths tingle with that signature numbing heat. I had to order the Sautéed String Beans and the Sizzling Beef. The true star of our lunch was the Braised Pork Belly with Preserved Mustard Greens. It was rich, tangy, savory just perfection in every bite. The space is perfect for big groups. I went with 2 others and we shared so much food for under $150 and had leftovers. This was a great place to catch up with friends. . Everything we ate listed below: Crystal shrimp dumplings Thinly sliced cucumber and pork Traditional fried rice Szechuan peppercorn fish fillet Sautéed string beans Sizzling beef Braised Pork Belly with preserved mustard greens

Yelp
Fan Szechuan is one of my go-to spots on the Lower East Side. The Kung Pao chicken is seriously the real deal super authentic, with just the right amount of heat and those tingly Szechuan peppercorns that hit perfectly. The chicken is always tender, and the flavors are bold and balanced. Service is great too everyone's really friendly and the food comes out fast, even when they're busy. It's a chill, no-frills spot, but the food speaks for itself. Highly recommend if you're into real Szechuan flavors or want to spice up your usual takeout routine!

Yelp
This restaurant is a nice place to take your date for something special or to take friends to have food together! The food here is a bit on the spicier side, but I would highly recommend trying the peking duck! It was so delicious! Also we would recommend the sweet and sour pork ribs, they were packed full of flavor and super tender! The sweet and sour fish was also very delicious - if you are into seafood, would highly recommend this!

Yelp
This place is a newer addition if Szechuan food in the LES and it was pretty good! the inside of the restaurant was super modern and we ordered off Ipads. the food itself was so tasty and flavorful! the cucumber salad was refreshing and a great addition to all the spicy food we were eating. My favorite was the lamb, it was spicy and rich in flavor. the fish was also so good and tender. the chicken was meh for me, but my boyfriend loved it. great food and service overall but a bit pricey as an FYI!

Yelp
I've seen this place on my way home quite a few times and decided to stop in for dinner. It was a quiet evening with only a few tables seated, but everyone would content with what they dishes. The staff is professional, personable..... this is in addition to actually placing your order on a tablet. The table is set with salted peanuts and tiny mala spiced veggies, which I saved to put on the rice, uuuughh sooooo good. I decided on the specialty fried rice, containing beef, chicken and shrimp. It was definitely a good choice. It was fresh and delicious and it came out really fast..... faster than the spring rolls, lol. Ive found my local Chinese spot

Yelp
We chose Fan Szechuan because we wanted a true Szechuan experience. The restaurant is nice, sharp and look new. It's clean and modern inside. The staff are very nice. Service was excellent. We ordered 2 Szechuan dishes and both were almost identical. It didn't seem that way in the menu. Sadly the chicken dish had tons of bones and it was extremely salty. Almost inedible, in fact we bailed on it and ordered another dish.

Yelp
Amazing service, chic atmosphere, great portions! My partner and I came to Fan Szechuan recently to satisfy our szechuan cravings, and it hit the spot. We ordered 4 dishes, which was more than enough to feed two people plus leftovers. Cold sesame noodles were pretty good, though a bit more garlic-forward than others I've had. Wontons were decent, maybe not the most flavorful in the city but still solid. Black Truffle beef fried rice was more subtle than I expected but we loved the amount of egg in it and it paired well with the other dishes. The chicken & dried peppers had a pleasant mouth-numbing sensation though less spicy compared to others I've had (and a bit more juniper-forward?). The service was friendly and food brought out quickly. They handed us an iPad to order but were able to answer our questions on the menu.. Perfect for introverts! We were happy to have tried it!

Yelp
What a great find on the lower east side! I like that you order on an iPad. Makes it easy to see what you are ordering. We had the pork soup Dumplings to start. Very yummy Then we had the pork in Garlic sauce. Lived the fresh bell peppers and the bamboo shoots and the black mushrooms. We also got the eggplant with garlic sauce and the king pao chicken. Everything was fresh and delicious! And comfortable with nice table cloths. Very classy And the staff were very nice.

Yelp
The menu is packed with spicy, savory, and umami-rich dishes that hit all the right notes. Some highlights from our feast: Thin Sliced Pork Belly w/ Chili Garlic Sauce - Packed with flavor and the perfect balance of heat and garlic. Black Truffle & Pork Soup Dumplings - A rich, fragrant twist on a classic favorite. Roasted Whole Fish in Sweet & Sour Sauce - Crispy on the outside, tender inside, and coated in a perfectly balanced sauce. Mala Sautéed Frog - A spicy, numbing, and surprisingly addicting dish for those who love Szechuan heat. Black Truffle Steamed Egg - Silky smooth with an earthy truffle aroma. From the fiery mala spice to the luxurious touch of black truffle, every dish was packed with flavor. If you love spicy food, this spot will not disappoint!

Yelp
This was a great little spot in New York for some great drinks and dinner. Food - Their Szechuan specials are delicious, but are extremely spicy. Even when I asked for it to be very mild, it was still extremely spicy. Otherwise, it was delicious, and comes with a bowl of plain rice to eat it alongside with. Their fried rice was absolutely delicious, the beef soup was delectable, and the drunken noodles were great as well. All of them have relatively generous portion sizes, especially the Szechuan specials. Service - Very friendly and nice, very attentive as well. Parking - They do not have their own parking lot. Overall, this place is great. Would highly recommend if you want any Chinese food in NYC.

Yelp
Amazing. Hands down some of the best Chinese in the city. They have a special Szechuan section that's spicy! So good. We had 7 dishes and they were all great. I'll be dreaming of this spot... take me back!
google avatar

Yelp
Stumbled upon this great little spot, after waiting for the 14 bus across the street, and it being delayed, and having the most wonderful aromas drift acre as the steeet cutting through the cold air! My friends and I were planning to go to Union Swuare to eat after a movie at the Regal Essex across the street, and were lured in (ditching our original plan)!! Boy were we glad we did! There is a nicely decorated room with comfy banquets, and pretty mood lightening.

Yelp
Fan Szechuan is a new Chinese restaurant in Lower East Side, serving exquisite and delicious Szechuan dishes. Modern and comfortable dining area, attentive service, and most importantly, INCREDIBLE FOOD! They now have some grand opening offer: - FREE steam dumplings if you spend over $30 - FREE any kind of chicken dish if you spend over $60 *Thin Sliced Pork Belly 晾衣白肉** We have never tried this classic Szechuan cold appetizer. The thin cut pork and cucumber are hung over a wood. It is delicious to dip into the garlic chili sauce on the bottom. *Golden String Mayo Prawns 宅門金絲蝦** My favorite dish! My jaw dropped at this beautiful presentation. The prawns are wrapped in shredded crispy batter and drizzled with golden mayo sauce. It is literally a culinary art. *Wagyu Beef Black Truffle Fried Rice 和牛黑松露炒飯*** Okay this fried rice is the star of the show. They add a generous portion of black truffle and wagyu pieces to the fried rice. Incredibly fragrant and packed with truffle flavor. The wok hei hits the spot, and the fried rice texture is just perfect. *Eggplant w. Garlic Sauce 魚香茄子 The eggplant is stir-fried in a rich sticky garlic sauce. Very delicious yet spicier than what we usually have at a cantonese restaurant. *Steam Juicy Bun 小籠包 The skin wrapper is too doughy for my liking, but the meat filling is juicy and yum. Free pork or veggie XLB if you spend over $30. *Handmade Fried Sticky Rice Cakes w. Brown Sugar 純手工紅糖糍粑 Imagine it is the dessert version of crispy rice, coated with soybean powder. We thought it would be chewier like tteokbokki but it was actually like rice cracker.

Liana H.

Yelp
Ordered drinks and appetizers and were pleasantly surprised how generous the sizes of appetizers been, also very delicious.

Yelp
Chinese food is such a goodie. Everything here was so delicious my favorite was the shrimp fried rice . The Moscow mule flight was perfectttt the servers were very accommodating and answered all my questions as i always have so many . I will def be back. Not only is it cute inside , it's good quality Chinese food and affordable .

Yelp
If you're in the mood for some amazing Chinese food in NYC, you have to try Fan Szechuan! Everything we tried was so good, but I have to give a special shoutout to their black truffle & pork soup, the honey walnut mayo crispy prawns and the beef with springs beans in house. The noodles? Absolutely delicious. The cocktail (Wild Moss) not only was perfect in flavor, but the presentation was absolutely stunning. The dishes are huge, perfect for sharing (or just having leftovers), plus the staff was so warm and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better. The Atmosphere was so relaxing and quiet, even when the restaurant was full. I'm already planning to go back -- they've definitely got a new regular

Yelp
I did take out so I don't have pics , but the food was on point very delicious I had a beer while I was waiting for the food and the ambiance was very nice the service was quick I didn't have to wait long , I will definitely go back now with my family to enjoy this establishment.

Yelp
Early September, I had lunch at Fan Szechuan newly opened on Essex Street around the corner from Sour Mouse. Reservations were easy to get on Google. One can look at the menu on a tablet which has a large variety of dishes. First came a square ramekin with picked vegetables and the tastiest peanuts. I liked these so much that I asked if they were for sale. Har Gow was the best out of three dishes that I ordered. The wrapper was silky and the shrimps were plump. Pork Soup Dumplings were a tad disappointing as the wrappers were thick. Sliced beef with tofu was quite nondescript in flavor. I drank water with my meal. When I got the bill the restaurant had already chosen 22% as a tip which I changed as I didn't think that was correct. The service was fine but the bill was quite high. This seems an expensive restaurant for this neighborhood.

Yelp
To check out the real deal for this new place that serve my favorite spicy dishes similar to Mt House at st mark , I came in person. The waiter and owner were super nice and welcoming (5/5) It was nicely decorated. Food was very good. I love their Wagyu truffle fried rice was very unique -5/5 . Beef in yellow spicy broth - 4.5/5 (wished beef slice was thinner) . Dry spicy chicken - 5/5 . Soup dumpling 4/5 (soup and meat is good , wished it was thinner wrap like the one in Shanghai). They will have KTV machine downstairs very soon so you can eat and sing We were able to get free Dry spicy chicken over $60 order. You get Free dumplings over $30 order promotion ! I am picky with the food but I think they are solid good lunch or dinner spot if you want both spicy & non spicy option . Bringing my big group of friends here one day for KTV fest! So glad finally I get my dose of true spice around my neighborhood . Food 4.5/5 Service 5/5 Decoration 4.5/5 Will I come back ? For Sure

Yelp
Authentic and high-end Szechuan cuisine. From the bold flavors of the Spicy Cumin Lamb Chops to the juicy Peking Duck, everything we tried was a delightful explosion of taste. Each bite took us on a culinary adventure that we couldn't get enough of. The perfect blend of spices and ingredients left us craving more, and we can't stop thinking about our next visit!

Amy G.

Yelp
The service at Fan Szechuan was exceptional! The food was really good too. We had soup dumplings (very good), egg drop soup, cumin beef and a few chicken dishes. The General Tso's chicken and sesame chicken were decent but not much taste difference. But the real winner here is the service!
google avatar

Stacy L.

Yelp
Everything here has always been delicious. Today we had the beef w/ string beans, very tasty. Along with egg rolls and an off menu appetizer Szechuan hot and sour rice noodle, both were great. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Natasha G.

Yelp
Do yourself a favor and add this place to your list. Make sure you order the beef lomein. The flavors are so rich and the meet is so nice and tender.
google avatar

Bite C.

Yelp
The food at Fan Szechuan reminds us so much of home-cooked food--warm and flavorful! We really enjoyed trying the Peking duck, sesame noodles, and spicy wontons. There were so many different appetizer options, including spicy and nonspicy choices. The atmosphere was also inviting and cozy, with tasteful decor and a welcoming vibe. The staff was attentive and friendly, ensuring we had everything we needed for a great dining experience. Whether you are craving something rich and hearty or light and savory, there is something for everyone. Fan Szechuan is the perfect spot for comforting and satisfying meals!!

Yelp
In addition to it being an absolutely beautiful restaurant, the menu is magnificent. It was delicious and very nicely presented. In addition staff is very helpful and pleasant. If you're near the Lower side it's worth a trip to try this restaurant.
google avatar

Kylie C.

Yelp
Went in the middle of the day and it was fairly empty. You ordered on a tablet, which was convenient. Also the place had nice seating. We got the chicken friend rice, shrimp and broccoli, sesame chicken, and the shrimp lo mein. The sesame chicken tasted as if it were frozen and the sauce was the consistency of a really thick honey. Would not recommend it. On the bright side, the shrimp lo mein, chicken fried rice, and the broccoli and shrimp were all really good. I would say you could find other options that are slightly better, but this is definitely not a bad contender.
google avatar

Carol F.

Yelp
Was so excited to see this opening in my neighborhood. I picked up food twice. I have to say - the restaurant smells so good! But I was disappointed both times. The first time the mapo tofu I ordered really had almost no flavor. And the second time, the eggplant szechuan style I got was unbearably sweet - so sweet that it was actually inedible. I don't want my savory dinner to taste like super sweet candy! I am wondering if those were fluke circumstances, or if that is simply how they cook. While they are not as expensive as the other Szechuan restaurant nearby, they are still costly enough that I am afraid to give them a third try.
google avatar

Devaney D.

Yelp
This has quickly become our new favorite Chinese restaurant! The food is fantastic. I'm happy it's available for delivery on Uber Eats, though I do have one suggestion for the restaurant: please add your entire menu to Uber Eats. As an example, the Szechuan Kung Pao Chicken is available on Uber Eats, but not the regular Kung Pao off your menu. It would be great if both options from your menu were available for delivery. On Uber Eats I'm also unable to order a side of white rice, which I can do on your website. Regardless, great food!

Yelp
This restaurant is so good that it bookended my Thanksgiving weekend. I went just to try it because I love Szechuan food the day before Thanksgiving and had the fish in chili oil. It was amazing and came with a lot of nice big pieces of fish. Then I went again the Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend and ordered the sour fish soup. They accidentally brought me the chili oil one (and I happily ate a bite, pretending to not realize it was the wrong dish), but fixed the mistake after I told them it was wrong. (Though oddly the server insisted to my bf that it was the sour fish even though the two dishes look totally different.) I would not recommend the cocktails, even though the pictures are pretty and they have interesting descriptions. Anyway, the food is amazing and the prices are quite good for this style cuisine. I'm sure I'll be returning here often.
google avatar

Stacy E.

Yelp
The soup dumplings were deee-lish. And the sesame lunch special was a great size and was thoroughly enjoyed.
google avatar

Holly S.

Yelp
The food isn't very good. Salty and sweet. Everything tastes the same Nice enough ambience and good service.

KimYen N.

Yelp
Wow, what a pleasant surprise! Every dish was fantastic--spicy, but perfectly seasoned without being overloaded with oil. I also love that they include rice with every dish, so no need to ask for it! The service was top-notch, the atmosphere was great, and the prices were really reasonable. This is definitely my new favorite Szechuan spot!
google avatar

Reba T.

Yelp
Had a big group meal here in their private dining room with several Szechuan fans, who all raved about how truly excellent the food was. We ordered many dishes and all were delicious - high quality ingredients, well prepared, great flavor and spices. Management and waitstaff were extremely helpful and friendly with helping us set up the reservation and during our dinner. They seem to love what they do and it shows. Beautiful table setting and presentation, especially the yam "icecream" for dessert. Ordering was a breeze with a group, as they use an iPad app. We will definitely return. If you use the private dining room, ask about setting up music in advance. They also seem to have a karaoke machine.
google avatar

Mindy N.

Yelp
Best Mapo Tofu I have had in a long time. Will be coming back. Lost a point for service. They seem to do more take out than eat in.

Max S.

Yelp
Loved this place. A little upscale, maybe too pricey for some. Check the menu first.e

Aran A.

Yelp
Super good , unique dishes. Very well balanced flavors with an emphasis on natural ingredients
google avatar

Carl B.

Yelp
Food was very good and delicious, friendly staff, clean well decorated restaurant. Definitely coming back!

Bran R.

Yelp
Fantastic food. Some really authentic cuisine here and it's all really well done. If you haven't had them, the thinly sliced potato dish is a staple in many restaurants in China and this place has the best I've had in NYC. The soup dumplings were solid, the pea shoots are awesome, and the dan dan noodles are perfect. Service was attentive and kind as well. Definitely adding this to the list of favorites and visitor recommendations.

Gladys I.

Yelp
Long awaited Chinese restaurant on the LES. The decor is inviting and the bar completes the requisite of a full service restaurant. The dishes are NOT your "takeout" garden variety. I had the shrimp dumplings, and Veggie Lo Mein that was light and not weight down with the oil you normally find in your takeout. It was a pleasure to not have to travel outside the LES to enjoy a taste of Chinese cuisine.
google avatar

Yelp
the service is great ! my sister and i came yesterday ! the food is BOMB and spicy ! their pork trotter omggggggg sooo good !!!! their mapotofu is soo soft and melts in ur mouth the second you put it in . drinks aren't super strong but good . fried crispy fish was great tooooo

Tiffany L.

Yelp
i absolutely loved fan szechuan...i looked the atmosphere and the holiday decor. the food was amazing. it was some of the freshest top quality chinese cuisine ive had in a while. all of the appetizers & entrees we tried were well cooked and flavorful (we basically tried the entire menu) i highly recommend the orange chicken, fried flounder fish, spicy chicken wings, & the garlic bok choy. the customer service was a1 as well.

Yelp
Food Seemed very authentic and the service was great. A good sign when you are the only westerner eating there
