Fan Szechuan is one of NYC's go-to spots for elevated Szechuan cuisine, delivering bold, authentic flavors with a level of refinement that sets it apart from more casual neighborhood options.
We ordered across the menu, and the range was impressive. The hot & sour mushroom soup was deeply flavorful and comforting, especially in the larger size. The Taiwanese beef scallion pancake roll stood out for its balance and texture, while the diced chicken with crispy pepper delivered heat without overpowering the dish. The sizzling beef tenderloin with red onions showcased serious wok skill, arriving hot and aromatic.
The brown sugar Peking duck (salt & pepper, half) was a highlight -- rich, well-executed, and clearly treated with care. Lighter dishes like the stir-fried pea sprouts with garlic provided a welcome contrast, and the signature house fried rice with chicken, shrimp, and beef tied everything together as a satisfying staple. We finished with the egg custard buns, which were soft, warm, and a great way to end the meal.
Service was attentive and professional, with good pacing despite the number of dishes ordered. The space itself feels polished and comfortable, matching the elevated approach to the food without feeling stiff or formal.
