The Best Central Coast Barbecue Spots, According to Eater Editors | Eater LA

"A classy take on ranchero barbecue, Far West is an Orcutt institution that seamlessly combines grilled meats like tri-tip, ribs, and pork chops with upscale sides like prosciutto-wrapped jalapeños. The interior is decorated, as one would imagine, like a Western-style institution, featuring high ceiling, striking art work, and big, plush booths. The baby back ribs are a must order-covered in a sweet citrus sherry wine glaze and boasting nice oak char marks." - Matthew Kang

California Has a Signature Barbecue Style on the Central Coast

"The Minetti family has owned Far Western Tavern in Old Town Orcutt for more than five decades, spanning three generations. At the landmark for Santa Maria-style barbecue, the menu reflects the traditional meal with blends of the Minetti family’s Swiss-Italian roots. Diners can opt for grilled polenta or ravioli to go along with their classic dinner." - Natalie Zimmerman

Central California Restaurants Are Worth the Drive from LA and SF | Eater

"A polished Orcutt roadhouse known regionally for its tri-tip, prepared over open flame for a fast, hot finish that highlights the lean cut’s flavor. The Minetti family relocated the operation from a more remote village in 2012, preserving much of the menu and kitsch even as some of the original location’s charm was lost; the dining room is ringed with hand-painted landscapes and historic-ranch maps. Plates of smoked and grilled meats draw crowds of locals and weekend visitors alike." - Farley Elliott

I frequently travel to California for work, and until now, I hadn’t found a restaurant that truly stood out—until I discovered this incredible gem! From the moment I arrived, I was captivated by the building’s stunning architecture and beautifully curated decor. You can tell that every detail has been thoughtfully designed to create a cohesive and welcoming atmosphere. The food? Absolutely phenomenal. It’s hands down the best I’ve had in the area. The steak was cooked to perfection, the mac and cheese was heavenly—rich, creamy, and bursting with flavor—and the wide selection of drinks ensured there was something for everyone. The variety and quality of the menu are unmatched. The staff was equally impressive—friendly, attentive, and genuinely invested in making the dining experience exceptional. I honestly can’t say enough positive things about this restaurant. It’s clear that passion and care go into every aspect of it. I’m already looking forward to my next visit when I’m back in the area. This place has truly set the bar high for the local dining experiences!

My husband and I go on date nights with another couple and we go to a different steakhouse each night, and let me just say that this is the best so far! Everything was phenomenal! Best clam chowder EVER. The potato in the chowder was so delicious! The steak was cooked and seasoned to perfection. The lobster and shrimp were amazing. The drinks were really good. The service was on point as well. We did not wait long for our drinks or food. We had a reservation and were seated right away. I will keep coming back for sure.

Google
The tri-tip is amazing. It's like coming home having it. Reminds me so much of my childhood. This place is *not* fast food. It's an experience worth having regardless. If you want to try Santa Maria BBQ and can't find a grill on the side of the street, this is a good bet alternative. My least favorite part: the beans. They under cooked them and there was not enough *flavor* in them. Considering these are a staple around here I expected them to do better. The bay shrimp? Super fun and cute! I love the crunch of the celery The salad: not just your basic Santa Maria ranch and lettuce salad, had a fancy watermelon radish slice The bread: properly wood fire roasted The Ravioli: amazing! Pretty sure they hand make these and my mouth waters remembering them The lemon meringue tart: so pretty! Very big, share this guy. Ice tea alert! Delicious 🤤 they gave me tons of refills Fun deco, def loud and overwhelming, so wear your loops if you are a fellow autistic

Google
The ambiance is very elegant and inviting. We ordered the portobello mushrooms accompanied by clam chowder soup (delicious) pinto beans and baked potato and the Tavern Burger with freshly made fries. Oh my goodness!!! The flavors were fantastic. Totally recommended the food at this restaurant. Great customer service. Overall we had a fantastic dinner experience!

Has been a staple restaurant of the town for years! I remember coming here as a kid and loving all the pictures and history this place has. I would recommend for anyone wanting good bbq and good vibes to come try this place out that’s a staple to history in the area

Google
We recently visited Far Western Tavern steakhouse and had a fantastic time! The filet mignon my wife ordered was cooked perfectly, and my 14 oz New York steak was mouthwatering. The food was outstanding, and the drinks were delightfully strong. Highly recommend this place for a memorable dining experience!

Yelp
The service was amazing. The food was divine. From the appetizers to the desserts, all were perfection. Nice clean restaurant. We had a reservation so there was no wait, but I am sure if you don't have a reservation you are going to have to wait, because people seems to love this place. For appetizer we had the Mac N' Cheese Relleno. For dinner I chose the Filet Mignon and my husband had the Fish. For dessert we had Cellebaut Chocolate Dome Cake and the Cheesecake. We will be back when in the area for sure

Yelp
Food: 3. What happened? I came here about a year ago and tried their Mac N' Cheese Relleno and thought it was amazing. So good that I told lots of people. My out of town group stopped by yesterday (Sunday) around 5:45 pm. Place was busy. We were promptly seated for our reservation. On our table was the usual relish tray. I ordered their Mac N' Cheese Relleno ($16) and Oak Grilled Steak Skewers ($20). Other orders included the baby back ribs, Bullseye steak, and filet mignon. Food came out timely and at the right temperature. The Mac N' Cheese Relleno was a major disappointment. I told people that it was real cheesy and so decadent. This order had very little cheese flavor. The steak skewers were cooked to the requested doneness but was just okay. Steak was not particularly tender or flavorful. Beans when added with their salsa was very good. Service was very good. Service: 4.5 Ambiance: 4 Value: 3

Yelp
We loved the rustic and romantic ambiance of the Far Western Tavern. The filet minon and bbq chicken dishes were delicious! We had a bit of a wait though it was Valentine's Day so I can't complain. This is a great spot if you haven't tried it yet.

Yelp
I hit the jackpot finding this wonderful steakhouse. It's like old time steak houses where your meal is NOT ala carte but instead you get a choice of soup or salad and a side. The place is lively with lots of people smiling laughing and having fun. We had the filet and the rib eye. Both beautifully cooked. We tried the clam chowder, which was delicious and the Caesar salad was fresh and bountiful. They had coconut shrimp as a special appetizer, so of course we tried it! When it came out we were like are those lobsters! The shrimp were huge!! Definitely enough to share. This place isn't just good food because the service was top notch too! From the friendly hostess to our wonderful server Tammy, we never wanted for anything. Our drinks were refilled without asking and the pacing of the food was perfect. We didn't feel rushed. The busser was also super friendly and efficient. Being from Vegas, I know steak houses and I gotta tell you that this is a must try place! Prices were good too! For reference, our two filets and ribeye, appetizer and three beers cost $220. A steal really in comparison to others. Way to go Far Western Tavern! We will be back.

Yelp
I'd been wanting to try Far Western for a while but it's a bit of a trek from SLO; however, I know now it's entirely worth it! Service was immaculate, the inside and outside tables are both beautiful and well maintained while clearly being preserved for decades, and the bathrooms were really nice and clean! My boyfriend got the special of the day which was the filet and shrimp and it was PHENOMENAL. My ribeye (the "world famous bullseye") was also perfectly cooked and so flavorful, and the fries were mouthwatering. I was hoping not to be disappointed and can now definitely say this place lives up to the hype! And if the food isn't enough to convince you to give it a try for whatever reason, the cocktails were amazing as well!!
google avatar

Corina L.

Yelp
The Bullseye steak had such good flavor! Our server Tammy was very attentive and friendly! We sat in the bar area which was very quaint and cozy.
google avatar

Alexis N.

Yelp
Are at the bar on a Friday night and the experience was great! The clam chowder was delicious and hot! Tammy was our server and was so sweet and attentive. The Bullseye was fantastic! I also would highly recommend the fries as they cut them fresh. Honestly, they've really been putting effort in and it was so tasty this visit. I enjoyed the ambiance of the bar and would prefer to sit there over the dinning room as it felt more lively.

Yelp
Another ride tonight taking school administrator to a function, so my co-driver R suggested we go into town. Orcutt is a town right? Sltting in the bar so we didn't have to wait, baseball is on so thats good right. Water was served immediately, they brought a croute, and a bay shrimp salad soon followed. My buddy got the classic world famous steak. I did a go to full rack of baby back ribs, salad & vegetables. Okay we have waited nearly half an hour since finishing our delicious salad and minestrone soup, the server continued to replenish the garlic bread and finally came clean with "i'm sorry a big party order has slowed the kitchen" ah... That will remove a star. Right then, the ribs were Very good. No sauce on these bad boys it was dry rub perfect. Tender but over tender just right. And thats sayin' alot for a guy who had a rib restaurant for a few years. No starch we both went with fresh veggies, roasted and cooked perfect sift n' crunchy. We were offered a dessert for our dinner wait, I ordered up a lemon tart to share as...well you know to limit calorie intake. Great place, see you next time Foodguy-martin

Yelp
The best steakhouse in town. A definite recommend for a steak dinner with friends. Not so much for little kids but teenager will still have a great time

Yelp
From start to finish, our meal was incredible! We had the prosciutto wrapped jalapeños for an appetizer and they were delicious. Our steaks were cooked to perfection--tender and juicy. To top it all off, the service we received from Emmanuel was impeccable. He was attentive, knowledgeable, and made us feel right at home. He went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed, and his warm hospitality truly enhanced the experience. We finished our meal with a dessert that was the perfect sweet ending.

Yelp
Food - Always delicious! Servers are speedy w/ drinks + you get a tray of veggies while you wait and for some reason it's sooo good. Anything on menu is worth getting! Faves include: twice baked potato, linguica, mac and cheese relleno, or the steak entree. Service - Waiters are so nice, answer all of our questions & are usually the same ones over and over again which is nice to see some familiar faces! Ambiance - A good and slightly classy eat in our local area. Booths are closed in a way that feels private even if you're near other guests at the restaurant! We love this place. We go like every other week since it's that great!

Barb H.

Yelp
Been here twice! Love it both times. Food is phenomenal, drinks are fantastic and service was spectacular!.

Yelp
Valentines Date night with my girlfriend everything was wonderful from the food to the service. We will definitely be back.
google avatar

Yelp
Good stuff but is a bit overkill. The burger was good but it was way too much meat and too much food. Wish they offered like half plate or smaller portion options for people that don't want to eat half a cow. Servers are always nice. Place is always clean. A bit expensive but that's just the times with Joe behind the wheel.
google avatar

Valerie W.

Yelp
Loved the ambiance. The bar and restaurant were very busy but we were seated per our reservation, despite adding 1 surprise guest. Our offers came out quickly and all 7 meals were devoured without complaint.
google avatar

Ryne O.

Yelp
Fucked up the order despite reassurance it was correct. Then, after driving back to pick up the item they forgot, they still got the order wrong. Beans were flavorless and the medium steak somehow had the texture of shoe leather.

Leslie G.

Yelp
We have been eating at Far Western since the old Guadalupe days. What we love about the "new" place in Orcutt (they've now been there for years) is that it still has the comfortable, cozy feel of the old place. The service is fantastic, the food is delicious and plentiful, and the atmosphere is the perfect balance of "Special Occasion-Comfort Food-Date Night-I need a Steak Night" . Far Western is just what you need- whatever the occasion. We love good food, but want to be comfortable. If you want to Dress Up you can, if you just want to be Wednesday Night Ready you can be that too. We always feel welcomed - and leave well fed.

Yelp
Steakhouse Gold!! Ambiance is an Impressive Nod to the history of the Restaurant and Santa Maria Bbq heritage! Off the beaten path from 101 south of Santa Maria, Far West Tavern is a Destination experience both for travelers and locals alike. The vibe is homey and the staff is downright friendly and gracious. My husband and I have been enjoying Santa Maria style Bbq at home for decades but this was our first time making the pilgrimage to Far West Tavern. It did not disappoint!!! We started our evening with a lovely pour of a Central Coast GSM. The meals are so very generous that we opted to skip the appetizer course. Hubby ordered the 7 oz Filet Mignon meal and I ordered the Beef skewers that the server recommended along with a side salad. A delicious bread basket, vegetable tray and what I would consider the house made ranch beans were brought to the table- very much familiar Santa Maria Bbq sides including the house salsa. My husband was brought shrimp cocktail to begin his meal and next was the clam chowder that he is still raving about, the next day! My side salad was a generous helping of fresh mixed greens, shredded carrots, croutons and garnished with a watermelon radish shaving on top with house made dressings on the side. When my husband's main course was brought out, it was such a big portion and served aside a twice baked potato. The cut of the meat wasn't quite what a Filet Mignon is typically but it was so flavorful. The timing was a bit off and my plate didn't arrive, so my husband shared the perfectly cooked steak and potato which were delicious. The table next to us noticed our meal and commented to the waiter that their dinner was delivered to our table. They were right and we were enjoying their 14oz cowboy cut steak. About this time my beef skewers arrived which were so tender- melt in your mouth - with a chimichurri sauce to complement the flavor! How was the staff going to handle this mix up in the kitchen? Our waitress was wonderful and she apologized to both our tables and made everyone happy!! They were brought their original order, and their wine along with other items were comped. For our table they comped my beef skewers because they didn't arrive until my husband was almost finished and they sent us home with my husband's original filet steak in a to-go box. Mistakes are made but it's how they're handled that makes the lasting impression. For food, service and ambiance, this is a winner!!

Yelp
This is always on our list of places to eat when we visit the area. Authentic decor and Friendly staff with great service. Hands down one of the best pieces of meat you will ever have, If you ask for medium rare you get medium rare. We always leave with a bag to take home for a midnight snack. Come with an appetite because the food keeps coming and you're going to want try everything. They won't disappoint.

Yelp
The food was so delicious , if you never been here before you have to go. It's a Must.! Our server Tammi was beyond helpful and beyond and above.! Mac N ' Cheese Relleno was the best I have never tasted anything quite like this. The sweetbreads were cooked to perfection with garlic bread and salsa.! Two things you must get.! You won't be disappointed I pinky promise. The Ambiance was just right.!

Alejandro P.

Yelp
Amazing service and great atmosphere during our valentines dinner, food was cooked to perfection. best stake house in town by far! Highly recommended.

Shyann M.

Yelp
The food was delicious. They have the best service in town. I would go back again it was so good and the deserts were amazing. This place is an 12/10 good

Beverly P.

Yelp
Arrived Friday at 5:30. People after us got their food and was leaving while we were still waiting for our food. The food arrived over two hours after we had ordered. The steak was charcoaled on the outside and tasted that way. The beans were nasty and the shrimp cocktail was too spicy and the shrimp were too tiny. The clam chowder was adequate. What was good was the garlic toast. We won't be eating there again!

Mike U.

Yelp
The last time we dined at Far Western Tavern was back when they were in Guadalupe. We were in the area and wanted to visit their new location in Orcutt and weren't disappointed. They still had that western ambiance with the western bar at the entrance and the steer and deer heads mounted on the walls, but now it's a more upscale feel to the place. We were the first to be seated this past Good Friday evening right when they opened at 5 pm. Our waitress and servers were very friendly and attentive...we never had to ask for a refill on our ice teas or clear our finished dishes. Their ribeyes were as flavorful and delicious as we remembered them as well as the huge portions. The ribeyes came with a shrimp cocktail and their pinquito beans, salsa and garlic bread. You have a choice of a side salad or a bowl of soup and a bake potato or a twice baked potato. We went with the soup and twice baked potato which was delish. Overall, they succeeded in bringing back those good ole Guadalupe memories.

Yelp
We recently went to Far Western on a Thursday night. We called to make a reservation (highly recommend a reservation) and had to leave a message. I got a callback within a few hours & were able to reserve a table for that night. It turned out to be a pretty busy night but we were seated within a few minutes of arriving. The dinners come with shrimp cocktail, choice of soup or salad, bread, beans & salsa & a choice of side dishes. My husband ordered the filet w/salad & baked potatoe & I ordered the 8 oz sirloin w/tomatoe basil soup & baked potatoe. I'm usually not a fan of tmoatoe basil but I was cold & wanted something warm - the soup was excellent! The courses were reasonably spaced out even though the place was packed. Both steaks were cooked exactly as we requested & my husband could cut the filet 'like butter'. We enjoyed everything about our meal (as evidenced by the picture). Our waiter was extremely nice & we had several additional wait staff to refill our water, bring out food & clear our plates. The only area for improvement could be the 'vege tray' waiting for you at our table - a few olives, a few cherry tomatoes, 2 carrot sticks & a whole bunch of peppers - a more robust tray would have been nice while we waited.

Yelp
Santa Marie style BBQ prime rib eye was epic, it dosen't get any better than that. My last visit was in the old location in Guadalupe a few years back, very quaint laid back place. I understand they moved to Orcutt which makes since from the commercial aspect. Glad i got to experience the orignal. I might even risk the drive thru LA to have another.
google avatar

Yelp
Came here after a recommendation of a friend. Super nice restaurant with great western decor. As far as the food 5 stars. Service 5 stars. Price 3 stars. Wine starts at $15 a glass in the middle of wine country a bit much. A 10 Oz. Beer at $8 on the high side IMO. We shared a 14 Oz ribeye ordered rare plus but came medium rare plus but flavor was great. Comes with shrimp cocktail relish tray bread and soup or salad. Had the clam chowder good but more thick than I prefer. As far as going back probably not as it was out of the way for us and we have other Santa Maria style steakhouses we like a little better in the area. Still happy we tried.
google avatar

Yelp
Their fish is the best; it is a very tender and tasty red oak-grilled caught fish. Their dessert selections are the best, especially the cheesecake with ice cream. #foodie #foodporn #yummy

Yelp
In town for a wedding we came to this location where the groom used to work. I believe there may be a parking lot but if not there's plenty of street parking. This place as authentically cowboy as possible. Plenty of history in this establishment that makes you appreciate it more.. On to the food.. the bread is arguably some of the best you'll find, I couldn't get enough as it compliments everything including the clam chowder. Along with the soup we were also given bay a Bay shrimp cocktail that was very refreshing. I ordered the bulls eye aka ribeye which is their signature steak and they didnt miss. Very impressed with the cut, seasoning and cooked exactly how I ordered it. The twice baked potato was one of the best I've had and there was a small cup of butter that I dipped my meat and bread in. Don't judge and it doesn't have to make sense but I don't regret it lol.. service was fantastic and everybody left full and with a smile. Idk when or why I'd be in town again to come back but I would eat here for sure. If you're in town then I suggest you check them out. They make some pretty good drinks too

Yelp
Love this place, the building and the decor is very western theme with old chandelier and steer heads in the walls , you have the feel of the wold western tavern The food was excellent with generous portion , we both enjoyed the tri tip and my sirloin , clam chowder , salad and the complimentary shrimp cocktail , and for the kill Coconut Cake The service was 5 star from the time we walk in to our table, Luisa was very pleasant, she gave great recommendation for our cocktail and dessert, very attentive service from her, all the way to the bus boy , With the restaurant very busy on a Saturday night staff managed to give excellent service , Kudos to the staff

Yelp
Food is always great, perfect medium on steak. Staff is great and friendly. Place is always clean and quick service .

Yelp
Far Western is hit or miss depending on the night and where you are seated. The bar needs another server and bar back most nights. Food is great and the atmosphere is nice.

Yelp
We had a great evening, the food and service was fantastic! The staff was friendly and helpful when ordering and dessert was great!

Yelp
I always eat in the bar, usually Friday nights. Greatest value for me is the steak sandwich, with a great salad (or other side) and piquinto beans (the best I've had!) for....wait for it...$20? Add on a healthy single pour of Sazerac Rye for $11, and you are out the door with a steak dinner and whiskey (tip the ladies or Manny!) for $40--hard to do these days. This is an honest cowboy bar--you may see some real hats and rodeo belt buckles. We're lucky to have the FWT so close to us now in Orcutt!

Michael D.

Yelp
I drive up from LA when I can to enjoy this place. Steak is flavorful and always cooked perfectly. Sides, appetizers, everything else with the meal is always on point. Service is always excellent.

Yelp
As usual, the Far Western Tavern never disappoints! Service was perfect and the food was delicious! The outdoor patio is comfortable, warm and inviting.

Yelp
The Far Western Tavern was our dinner of choice for Thanksgiving 2021. We were staying in the Santa Ynez/Solvang area. Many of the restaurants in the area were closed. Far West was one of the few that were open for both dine in service and takeout. With my wife not comfortable dining inside restaurants, we chose the takeout option. They are located in Orcutt at the corner of Clark Avenue and Pacific Street in modern 2 story building. When I called, they told me that they would close at 6PM. But, when I got there close to 6PM, there was a lot of people still waiting both inside and out. For Thanksgiving they had the option of either turkey or prime rib with a salad, sides and dessert for about $70 per person. We chose the prime rib. It was cooked medium rare, exactly the way we ordered it. It had a nice smoky flavor. It was good. There was enough food 2 small appetite adults and one child. I liked it. The food was good. The service was good. The building looked nice. I would've like it more if I had my meal there, and I look forward to the day that I can go back and dine in their dining room.

Yelp
We were a party of four. We started off with cocktails and artichoke dip. Our entrees were steak & lobster, rack of lamb, ribeye and a pork chop. Our server was Jordan, who was delightful and attentive. The ambiance was mellow & soothing and we enjoyed the western decor. We all loved our meals, very delicious and well seasoned. We highly recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
It's good to have Far Western Tavern open again! Marna and employees seemed happy to be back and they had a good dinner crowd this evening. Sundays they have their Prime Rib dinner and they prepare a very good meal with the shrimp cocktail starter, salad and entree. Make sure though to come early if you want a slice. Tonight we had the last 2 pieces at 6:30p. Be sure to support local business!! They are only open Thur- Sun for now and have a long way to get back to normal.

Yelp
We came here for my husband's birthday. It was such a fun experience. This place is not formal by any means but you definitely can wear a nice pair of jeans and your favorite cowboy shirt and feel right at home. The prices are quite expensive but the food we had was delicious. The portion was great too. Our food was prepared exactly how we wanted it. From one person in my party ordering their steaks medium rare all the way up to someone else in my party ordering their steak well done everything came out just as requested. I ordered the tri-tip medium well and I chose to get it with the mixed vegetables which happened to be cauliflower and carrots. The try tip is prepared perfectly and was still full of flavor though it was medium well. The vegetables were tender and the seasoning on them was amazing. They brought us out salads before hand which were quite tasty and we really enjoyed the ranch dressing. The bread they bring you before dinner is also delicious and you can tell is made fresh daily. Since it was my husband's birthday we made sure he ordered dessert. He just wanted to scoop of ice cream. So they brought it out with some candles and a cookie to go along with it. Our hostess was so sweet that she gifted it to him free of charge. Our service was exceptional. We were greeted friendly at the door and our waitress was helpful, Knowledgeable, and was able to answer any of our questions and give us some great recommendations as well. I was reading other reviews about how people were saying it's not as good as it used to be when it was in Guadalupe but I have to say my food was phenomenal and I greatly enjoyed my experience.

Yelp
Came in Sunday while my boy was working out down the street. Thought I would get some breakfast and watch the 49ers take on the Saints. Now the game ended up being probably the best game of the year (5-stars for sure, but that's a different review). I had the Bullseye steak (med-rare) and eggs and it was fantastic! Cooked perfectly and it came with home style potatoes, beans and salsa, and biscuits. The potatoes were crispy outside and flaky good inside. I was stuffed when I finished. This breakfast could easily be split and shared with another person. (See pic). I had a Bloody Mary with it which was good, but I noticed the bar tender making another for someone else and theirs had a piece of Bacon in it. That would have been nice, though I am not sure I have to ask for it additionally??? Not enough to knock the review though. The bar was a perfect place for me to sit and watch the game. The have high tables, low tables, or you can grab a seat at the bar counter. I will definitely be back for more. Cheers!

Yelp
Decided to come and do the curbside pickup. I was craving a nice steak so we did the tri tip dinner for 4. Key here is 4 people. You get mixed greens and ranch, 4 baked potatoes, beans and tritip. The good- baked potatoes was great. Seasoning on the peel made it pack a nice flavor punch. It's a baked potato but done well. The beans weren't seasoned but cooked nicely. Mixed greens were mixed greens. The bad- this is where I am highly disappointed. The star of this dinner is the tri-tip and they ask how you want it cooked. I asked for medium rare and got a well done box of meat. It ate so dang tough it made my jaw hurt. Good flavor but eating more than one slice was rough. Which Omni ya me to the other point, this is a dinner for 4 and we got 10 small slices of tri tip. That's 2 and a half pieces per person? Not to mention some were way smaller than others. Honestly highly disappointed in the protein. Curbside was easy to order and pick up but this was a very disappointing experience. Just be aware that, at least the protein, may not be exactly what you're thinking to feed 4 or 6 people, per the menu.

Yelp
I tried them out for Thanksgiving dinner and was not disappointed. The choice for mains was Turkey, of course, or prime rib. It's Far Western, for Pete's sake! I ordered the prime! It was barbecued Santa Maria style over red oak, cooked perfect medium rare with sides of mashed potatoes and gravy, corn and green bean succotash, mashed sweet potatoes with a brown sugar crumble topping. A salad was the starter, oh and their traditional shrimp cocktail. Wow, enough for great leftovers the next day. I'll be back!

Yelp
Their food is consistently above average. We often get to-go orders, and the food is just as good as dinning in! Highly recommend!

Yelp
Not the same. And not in a good way. I love the place when it was in Guadalupe. Just got too fluffy.

Yelp
Lots of improvement here! Great service! Been here a number of times. Never disappointed. Really thankful that Far Western is here is Old Orcutt. You got the old school 1958 Santa Maria Style BBQ along with some new school options such as the poblano relleno with mac n cheese! Come here to the bar from 2-5pm for a special bar menu and enjoy other items that are not on the regular menu. Our friends ordered the roasted beet salad, the potato jalapeño soup, and the grilled artichoke. My wife ordered the relleno with the mac n cheese. I really enjoy the dinners with the green salad, the pinquito beans, grilled garlic bread, and more. Sometimes it's super busy and sometimes it's not. They have very reasonable lunch prices and lots of extra choices IF you're in the bar. I think this place has improved!

Yelp
I have been here three times now and enjoy every experience. I've had steaks at all of the other nearby steakhouses and still believe Far Western is the best of the bunch. Don't miss the Chile Mac and cheese appetizer. Twice baked potato is also fantastic!

Yelp
Haven't been to the Far Western since it was in Guadalupe. For many years we would go there every time we were in the area. Their Bulls Eye steak was the BEST (flavor, melt in the mouth steak) I have ever had. I have Rib Eyes from East Coast to West Coast and the Bulls Eye at the Far Western is truly the best I have eaten! Was hoping the Bulls Eye steak was the same great steak since they moved to Orcutt, Ca and today that test was proven positive! The steak was AWESOME! The steak still had the perfect balance of charred flavor. Also all the sides are great. Incredible job Far Western for carrying on the old traditional great steak, you nailed it. We will be back the next time we are in the area. Jim SoCal
