I'll start with what was amazing...the aroma as you approach the door is wonderful! It made me anticipate a delicious, gooey, cheesy, tomato pizza pie loaded with savory meat!
Yet, alas, I was soon disappointed. Stepping in to Fat Lorenzo's is like stepping back in time. That's cool. I waited in a short line to claim my online order (easy process!). Staff was friendly enough - not rude, but not really welcoming. I was given my pie and off I went. Within 5 min or so we were eating our small Carne pizza.
Lots of topping? YES. This one, Carne, had red sauce, cheese, pepperoni, sausage, Canadian bacon and sliced meatballs. Toppings were fine, sausage has an odd spice blend. For me, the cheese was mushy, not gooey and stretchy like mozzarella I love. But the crust? Yuck. Way too much bread for our taste - very thick crust, sort of dry and not very flavourful, not even chewy. And the base of the pie is also very thick bread. It's topped with a dark, sticky marinara of sorts which ended up making that sauce-crust interface pasty and gummy. Bleh.
So, we are most of our pizza - left the pizza bones. And honestly, just scraped the topping off a few slices. This is reported to be NY Style pizza - or even close.
Sorry Fat Lorenzo's, we won't return
