This is an amazing gelateria. Off the beaten track but just up from the Cavour metro station. The ice cream flavours are very unique. I had walnut & cardamom and ricotta with Sicilian citrus. Two flavours cost €3.

Google
Great gelato with lots of selections and very reasonable prices. The service was quick, so even though there was a line, it moved quickly. There is seating outdoors as well, which adds to the enjoyment.

Google
Love the gelato here! So many flavours! Lemon & basil is definitely my favourite. Very refreshing!

Google
I don’t understand why this gelato shop is so hyped up when it has nothing great going on. It taste like any regular gelato Gelato ⭐️⭐️ The prices are also super high, and the guy who gave me my gelato gave me 2 small scoops and it cost me €4. You can easily go to a high quality gelato place such a La Romana and get authentic gelato with whipped topping, and chocolate cream for only €4. Not to mention that the portions are much bigger there.

Google
Came here on the advice of several prominent Rome YouTubers and was disappointed to say the least. Extra surly man serving us aside, the affogato was made with Nespresso coffee (see video). The gelato wasn’t bad but there are better options. Downvoting because it didn’t live up to the hype.

Orion Sofia Demarchi

Google
I had the pistacchio and the chocolate gelato for 3 euro. It was good but not surprising. It's definitely not the best I have ever had. Size is smaller than what is expected. Several flavours. No place to seat. Neighborhood is full of restaurants.

Juta Dvareckienė

Google
Loved it! Tried straciatella and Madagascar chocolate (soooo chocolaty), fig milk (wow, sooo good) and white almond (didn't taste the almond, but very nice vanilla :D).

Krista Prince

Google
Really delicious strawberry gelato! I also tasted the Madagascar chocolate and it was wonderful as well - just felt more like a strawberry kind of day this particular visit. Would go back again, if I was in the area. They had a lot of great looking flavors.

Yelp
Outstanding gelato!! Wide variety of flavors One of the best we had in Europe Plenty of outdoor seating Location is in a friendly neighborhood Service is great

Yelp
I walked 20 mins from my hotel to this gelato heaven. When I had my first bite, I could literally see angels. This was the best tiramisu gelato ever. Would absolutely love to return to try other flavors.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious gelato with some unusual flavors, but not being able to taste them made me stick with known flavors. I had passion fruit and melon and both were very good, but I've had a more intense melon gelato before and this one didn't measure up. Serving was a bit smaller, too, but for 3 euros I won't complain!

Yelp
Read up that Fatamorgana was one of the best gelato places in Rome - and it lives up to the hype! The long line proves it. They have a number of unique flavors like Snow White that you just have to try. Everything is super sweet without any sort of processing agents. There's also a great area outside to enjoy with a drinking fountain!

Yelp
My partner and I visited a few different Fatamorgana locations during our time in Rome because they had a huge range of non-dairy, no-egg options for gelato and sorbet to choose from. Each location offered a slightly different variety of flavors but every single flavor we tried was fantastic and super unique. The staff was friendly at each location, patiently waiting for us to make our decision for which flavors we wanted to try. Each flavor is also labeled clearly with what ingredients it contains as well as an Italian and English description. 12/10 would recommend to everyone I know.

Yelp
The absolute best gelato I've had in my life was at this location. While visiting I decided to stop in this location for a cool treat and indeed it was that . The location is quaint not too large like most places here . The staff was kind and worked fast to provide my items . I indulged in the cheese cake gelato and omg it was beyond amazing . I probably visited this place a total of 3 times on my trip . Absolutely cannot wait to return

Yelp
Re: Giarda Multiple locations https://giadzy.com/travel/giadas-guide-to-rome-italy/ one of the first gelaterias in Rome to create truly artisanal gelato, made only with fresh, natural, seasonal ingredients among the very few that played with unusual flavors like Kentucky tobacco and Seadas (a Sardinian dessert made of cheese, orange peel, and fried dough)

Veruka S.

Yelp
Best of the best. We tried Gelato all over Italy and this was my favorite. Loved all the flavors I tried, but mint chip was my favorite.
google avatar

Yelp
Easily my favorite gelato in Rome, but also because it was the only gelato I tried in Rome, and only wanted to go back here every single time ! We ate here 4 times in three days, and I loved every single scoop. My favorite flavors were banana and black sesame crisp (the shards of black sesame make me soon!), pistachio which were different than other versions I've had in Italy because it featured chunky bits of nuts, and the pineapple and ginger sorbet - so freakishly refreshing and delightful. My friend couldn't stop raving about the orange and dark chocolate flavor as well. Must go!
google avatar

Tracy H.

Yelp
This cute spot has some of the best ice treats. There are so many flavors to choose from. Everything I tried was good but my all time favorite is the pineapple ginger. Everything tasted fresh and was made with real ingredients. I visited this spot several times while there. Great customer service and prices. Highly recommend

Yelp
I love this place! The best gelatos in Italy. The owner was so kind with us and patient when we were deciding the flavors. It's located in a calm area. After walking around Rome the whole day, it was a great place to stop by and rest while enjoying of this delicious gelatos.

Yelp
We lived in Rome for 3 months and did a lot of gelato tasting, and this ended up being one of our favorites. Locally-sourced, organic, seasonal flavors made daily. My favorite was cilegia and birra (cherries and beer). Located on an amazing small piazza in the heart of Rione Monte, one of the most interesting districts with great local businesses. Short striking distance, but mentally a world away, from the craziness and heat at the Coliseum and the Forum. Small fountain in the piazza is great for fresh, cold water, and even some splashing for small children. A great stop on your late afternoon/early evening passeggiata or after dinner stroll through Rome. It is custom to ask to taste flavors before ordering: Posso assaggiare = can I have a taste. Con panna=with cream. Due gusti=two flavors, Coppa=cup, Cono=cone. Don't forget grazie=thank you. Learning Italian fruit flavors is a great way to teach kids a little Italian. Tip: If visiting in summer, walk up to and over the Campidoglio at night after having your gelato. Late evening summer events are sometimes programmed in this space and it is amazing! We stumbled across the Italian national fencing team performing in the Campidoglio on live national TV after getting gelato at midnight during the week.

Yelp
Now with a location in Los Angeles, Gelateria Fatamorgana first expanded inside Rome itself, and although both scoops and storefront in Monti are small the Gelateria that hashtagged #naturallygood has become a destination for both freshness as well as purity. The brainchild of Chef Maria Agnese, her dedication to the art of flavors dating to a childhood in the kitchen with mom, it is inside the shop at Piazza degli Zingari 5 that guests will find ideas built on "No Tricks, Just Nature," novelties like Almond Flower set adjacent standards such as Stracciatella for €1.50 a scoop. "Motivated by curiosity," and seasonally focused on the globe's bounty, it is after perusing some 36 flavors that guests are encouraged to choose, Lactose-free Amarena Cherry vibrant atop Sicilian Pistachio without any added sweetness while Stracciatella and Dark Chocolate "Estasi" both focused on textural contrast, the latter by way of bitter Coffee Beans and toasted Hazelnuts.

Yelp
I was not impressed w the vegan options, it was my first gelato place in Rome and yes the dietary needs are clearly stated but there are limited options for vegans. I ordered the chocolate and the pumpkin flavor, both tasted watered down with not much intense flavor to them. There was no line but I visited the establishment at 830pm.

Norma A.

Yelp
Very good gelato. When I went it was very busy but the overall experience was great. The staff was very nice and the environment was friendly.
google avatar

Lisa Y.

Yelp
I really loved the stracciatella gelato. It was very creamy and refreshing after a day of walking! I got two flavors for 2,50 euros. stracciatella and caffe

Yelp
My favorite gelato in Rome using the freshest ingredients. Hard to believe that their gelato is gluten free, dairy free, and sugar free. Truly unique flavors ranging from basil with walnuts to peaches and wine. Employees are kind and portions generous. The bonus? Free water fountain located right outside the shop. Very accessible from the train too. Highly recommend for anyone visiting Rome, especially after a visit to the Colosseum or Roman Forum!

Yelp
Not the biggest fan, but decent! They have a lot of very original flavors which is pretty cool. I got the pistachio, pineapple ginger, and mint chocolate flavors. First of all, they don't even fill up the cups all the way like other places and the gelato wasn't as soft as normal gelato and they actually used ice cream scoops to serve-not very authentic. The flavors were okay but not the best. The pineapple ginger had a weird after taste, as did the mint chocolate. And, they all had very chunky bits of the mix ins which I found kind of tasted like sand in the gelato that ruins the beautiful texture of gelato. Also! Why so expensive!? €3.5 for the medium size with theee flavors and the cup was barely half way filled!
google avatar

Hanh N.

Yelp
They have lots of flavors, some of which aren't often found. I chose two flavors: basil and pineapple with ginger. I really like that they write the main ingredients and have labels for intolerance for each flavor: gluten-free, egg-free, milk-free, nut-free and sugar-free. The tastes are very good. I was about to have another gelato to try different flavors until... I saw that when serving another customer, they used the same scoop for two flavors which were next to each other. I did not notice that when they served my gelato because my two flavors were quite far from each other so they use different scoops. I prefer having a dedicated scoop for each flavor so that the flavors do not potentially mix into each other (even slightly). That is why I give them 4 stars. It is a very small gelateria. However, the outside is a small piazza with some benches and a drinking fountain. The piazza is located in a quiet area. All the people sitting there came for the gelato. Nice atmosphere.

Yelp
A quaint little gelato shop with all kinds of flavors. I tried, their guinia( I think that's how you spell it), it tastes like chocolate and hazelnut, sorta like nutella, but better; the wasabi chocolate and the peach mixed with port wine and raspberry(?). Sorry wasn't really paying much attention to the exact ingredients, the amount of ice cream offered a kind of distracted me. So... In the end, we decided on getting.... None of what we tried... Loooool, I'm sure the gelaterian was like wth... But the flavors we tried just weren't all that too my liking, the wasabi chocolate was really weird, it was literally it's name, a first punch of wasabi then the chocolate flavors slowly crept up. So anyhow, not going to go into why I didn't choose those flavors.... I ended up getting the white almond and dark chocolate. Omg, I was so glad I ditched those previous flavors. These weren't that sweet, and there were little shreds of almond in the white almond ice cream, not to mention these were the none American almonds, which tastes better in dessert. The sweetness from the almonds mixed with the bitterness of the dark chocolate was amazing! The dark chocolate was real dark, and really good. So to wrap things up, this place is amazing, if I find my way back here, I hope I will be able to come back!
google avatar

Josh N.

Yelp
Excellent gelato with tons of gluten free options. Gluten free cones. Everything is easily marked for food allergies of all kinds. Friendly staff. Will come back for sure as prices are very reasonable. One thing of note, three scoops here are the same size as two scoops elsewhere.
google avatar

Tiffany W.

Yelp
Cute gelato shop just around the corner from our Airbnb. Gluten and lactose free so my tummy was extremely thankful. I got the cookies and cream and almonds! It was packed with tourists and locals enjoying gelato surrounded by the picturesque cobble streets of Rome. If you like gelato like me but are hesitant because of tummy trouble...have no fear, Fatamorgana is here and they're open late!
google avatar

Kimberly J.

Yelp
4.5 stars Delicious gelato! There is no seating available inside. There are a few benches in front of the shop. Service was friendly and quick. The prices are great and they have a wide variety of flavors. The flavors we tried were all very flavorful. The consistency is just right, smooth, creamy, well blended and light. Naturally flavored and made with quality ingredients. Yum!!
google avatar

Barndi K.

Yelp
Natural, small production (although they've gotten bigger over the years) gelato. They were one of the first to be strict with their quality control and even though they have several locations, the quality remains high. Fatamorgana has not just a lot of flavor options but unique ones as well. But rest assured you will always find your cafe, fragole, Nocciola in addition to figs, cake and many more! This location has a couple of benches and a fountain outside the small shop.
google avatar

Yelp
Real Gelato. So good!!! Sample until you get what you like. Chocolate Hazelnut is super good.
google avatar

Ryna D.

Yelp
So glad to have gotten recommendations to this place! Some of the best gelato I've had! And the flavors range from classic ones like crema and straciatella to really unique ones with fun names. We visited this location as well as another one near Piazza del Poppolo because you can never have enough gelato while in Roma! Highly recommended!
google avatar

Sarena T.

Yelp
Definitely gourmet gelato. Sure they advertise gluten-free, healthy, wholesome etc etc, but don't be deceived. This is tasty stuff! I was doing my happy food dance and didn't want to stop eating it to even put on my jacket though it was cool outside! Incredibly creative flavors that go well even though they may give you pause. The most amazing gelato flavors. The ones I tried... Thought: pink grapefruit, ginger root, horseradish, caramelized lemon. YUM! My fav Thumbelina: Sorrento walnuts, rose petals, violets. Punch Paradise: strawberries of Terracina, white wine, lemon. Sacripante: coffee with Amaretti and rum. There are several locations around Rome. And you can buy gelato by the KILO for 23€! 5 scoops for 5€ seemed like the best deal bc I got 4 scoops for 4.50€ and was sad when it was over, wishing I had gotten a fifth flavor! #regret
google avatar

Kim P.

Yelp
The tastiest, most unique and fun gelato flavors in all of Rome. I can't say enough about how much I enjoy going to Fatamorgana every time I'm lucky enough to visit the Monti area. I'm always pleasantly surprised by the brash flavors and always leave wanting more. If I had one negative to add, it would be to avoid getting a frappe, very little gelato was included and as a result, almost no flavor other than frothy milk. But if you're lucky enough to be there when there's cherry tobacco or Thumbelina (with rose petals!), go for it and let your tastebuds have their vacation too.
google avatar

Andrea B.

Yelp
OMG!!! The lavender and chamomile gelato!! And the cones are GF! Highly recommend! Super fresh and delicious!
google avatar

Anthony L.

Yelp
Ok being an ice cream person ,and quite adventurous, this is the THE place. Gorgonzola and Pear gelato is my favorite. All their flavors are wonderful and the staff can't help but smile when they serve you .... who wouldn't knowing that you are serving the best gelato in Rome .
google avatar

Jessica C.

Yelp
Artisanal gelato in Monti, I didn't know it existed! There are about 30 flavors to choose from. Yes the OG gelato flavors are there but then there are flavors like chocolate orange which blow your mind. This shop is off the beaten path but worth the visit.
google avatar

Zack C.

Yelp
We were turned on to this place by the YouTube channel The Roman Guy. So glad we did. Truly unique among all of the handmade gelato we tried in Italy. The flavors are fantastic and you can taste the excellence and craftsmanship. The service was friendly and efficient. My fiancé couldn't decide on her last flavor so she asked the server what his favorite was and he smiled and added it. Nice touch. Do yourself a favor, do not miss this gem while in The Monti or even make a trip over after seeing the Colosseo. It's worth the short walk. Update, the review above was yesterday. We came back again and I tried the black cherry, Madagascar chocolate and banana ginger. Even better than yesterday. Tasty, complex and not too sweet. Love this place.
google avatar

T T.

Yelp
It's so hard to find gluten-free vegan food in Italy, so this place was a pleasant surprise. There were a range of flavors with allergy information labeled on each flavor card. Many vegan gluten free options including gluten free cones. Highly recommend for those with diet restrictions that want to enjoy what Italy is known for!
google avatar

Vivian N.

Yelp
THE BEST GELATO EVER. After a long day exploring the Colosseum and Roman Forum, my cousin and I were craving some gelato. Yelp led us here and I'm so glad it did. It was pretty crowded when we arrived, but the line moved super fast. I got the Thumbelina and Snow White and holy #$!@ it was so good! I ate my cone so fast that I had to get in line for another cone. For my second cone, I got the gianduia (Prince's Kiss, I think?) and the basil gelato!! Gianduia is my favorite and this place does it RIGHT with hazelnut chunks embedded in the gelato. The basil was like eating cold, creamy pesto. If that sounds gross, trust me it isn't! It was really unique and SO good. My favorite overall was the Thumbelina! I came back to Fatamorgana everyday that I was in Rome lol and I was so surprised to find out it was a chain! Doesn't matter, they're doing gelato RIGHT!
google avatar

Floris V.

Yelp
Pretty good Gelato. Gluten free options! A chain, but tolerable.
google avatar

Jessica H.

Yelp
Maybe it was the flavors we selected but this was the worst gelato we had while in Italy (and we had a lot!). This gelato was icy & tasted watery. Plus, the man at the counter was not overly friendly!
google avatar

Sasha T.

Yelp
I had the pistachio and fiordilatte and my husband had the pistachio and the coconut. All 3 flavors were divine. Fatamorgana lives up to its reputation!
google avatar

Seth S.

Yelp
Our group stopped in here due to the reviews on Yelp and other websites recommending it as one of the best gelato shops in Rome. I didn't realize beforehand that the gelateria focused on vegan, sugar free, egg free, or nut free flavors. Fatamorgana serves up some old standbys as well as some extremely unique flavors that you won't find elsewhere in the city. I tried a scoop of their chocolate orange and a scoop of the banana cream and sesame brittle. The chocolate flavor was not far off from a Terry's chocolate orange. The banana had a slight banana flavor only, and I could not detect the sesame brittle. Both were extremely gritty and did not hold up to the December night air, causing the scoops to melt much too quickly. Fatamorgana should be commended for their unique flavors and commitment to supporting different diets, however the end result to me was not what I would want from a Roman gelato experience.
google avatar

Mina M.

Yelp
Hazelnut with fructose is SUCH good vegan gelato. Usually the only vegan option at gelato places is sorbet, so this was really awesome. Convenient how every flavor is marked with allergy info.
google avatar

Elizabeth F.

Yelp
Yummy yummy gelato with tons of flavors and for a great price!!!! Nice portion size too
google avatar

Gina H.

Yelp
I got ice cream here three times while I was visiting Rome for 4 nights. They have a huge selection of flavors and ordering is quite easy even if you don't speak Italian. They have a good selection of different chocolate ice creams which is pretty cool. Their Wasabi Chocolate sounded interesting and it was actually good! My favorite flavor is Banana and Lime. You can definitely taste both flavors and the like gives it a good tart citrusy flavor. I love that there is an area outside where you can enjoy your ice cream with everyone else.

Yelp
Ugh this was literally just such a disappointment. The first thing that my friend and I wanted to do when we landed in Rome was eat gelato. We arrived in Piazza Venetia and immediately Yelped for a place to eat. Even though this one was .5 miles away, we decided to take the journey. It's a struggle to find because if you go to the exact address on Yelp.. it's not the right place. And it's not that the address is wrong because even Fatamorgana says that that's its address. You need to walk about 2 more minutes down the street to a small square area where the road splits off. Unfortunately for us, the place wasn't open until 1pm so we opted to go again given how good the reviews are. So let me make my disclaimer. This place serves good ice cream. But not gelato. Gelato is differentiated by its creamy texture. One easy way you can tell if ice cream is gelato is the way that it's being scooped. Ice cream tends to be scooped in circular balls whereas if you go to good gelaterias, you'll notice that the gelato is packed in and out with a flat utensil to make the gelato slightly more compact while retaining its creamy flavor. That was the first sign. I got the banana cream with seasame, tiramisu, and the estasi (chocolate, coffee, and hazelnut.) The flavors were great and there certainly were quite a number of flavors, but this isn't gelato. This is where I was disappointed and have my problem--if Fatamorgana didn't advertise itself as gelato and simply said they had good ice cream, I'd rate the place higher. But instead, it's calling its product gelato, tourists who don't really know gelato come and rate this place and believe that this is authentic gelato. No.. this is not gelato at all. It's just good ice cream. Please don't waste your time going out of the way for this if you're looking for gelato. Also, having gone to so many gelato places after this, this place is actually quite expensive given how small the scoops are. Each scoop is one euro but easily devourable in seconds. tldr; good ICE CREAM. not gelato. go elsewhere. if you just want yummy flavors, you're fine, but don't go here if you came to Italy for gelato.

Yelp
I mean like... I knew Italy would be the best spot for gelato but DAYUUUUUUMM... The gelato from Fatamorgana was amazing. I came here on a food tour and this was one of our dessert stops. I honestly forgot the name of this place. Fat was the only word that sticked and it was the fat gelato place for a long time. If you're a fan of simple, few and quality ingredients in your gelato, then you need to stop reading this review, hop on a plane and head straight to Rome. My gelato peeps... This place will put Amorino to shame... And I like Amorino gelato. Honestly the key to my soul was finding a WHOLE chunk of hazelnut in their hazelnut gelato. Like I know there is like a shortage of hazelnuts pero like, damn... A triple plus for delivery.

Lissete D.

Yelp
I tried several gelaterias during our stay in Rome. But Fatmorgana topped them all. It is conveniently located across the street from our apartment in Monti. How cool is that??? The flavors are all interesting and unique. ZABAIONE MOSCATO E FRAGOLINE and the ZABAIONE ALLO SHERRY-BRANDY E ARANCIA were my favorite. The staff was friendly and helpful. The reasonable pricing was a plus as well.
google avatar

Emily P.

Yelp
Extremely unique flavors and a great price - 2.50/ small cone with two flavors. It's also located very close to Cavour, so it is pretty central. We went there at least twice during our time in Roma. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Linh N.

Yelp
Hands down my favorite ice cream/gelato place in the ENTIRE WORLD. My boyfriend and I stayed closeby for 5 days or so and we went here literally EVERY DAY. Most times twice a day. We always see this very friendly ice cream man and he remembers us and always says hi. He was prob thinking "Here comes those regularly scheduled fat Americans," but whatever, the gelato is delicious. I recommend getting their Thumbelina flavor, it is made with walnuts and rose. My boyfriend loves the pistachio, very chunky and flavorful. We tried most of the flavors here and did not find a single one that we did not like. They also have a basil and honey flavor, oddly delicious. Apricot is also tasty. If you are craving gelato after visiting the Colosseum, or if you are in Monti, this place is definitely worth the visit. There is also a nasoni right in front for drinking/washing your sticky face after face planting into some tasty af gelato.
google avatar

Zed E.

Yelp
Really great gelato! Had the basil walnut honey flavour mixed with Prince's kiss (whole walnuts with fudge). Highly recommend it!!

Yelp
There are a few things we missed while in Rome, like nachos and temperatures fit for life on Earth. But some things are ubiquitous, including gelato. Between Venice, Verona, and Rome we had gelato about a dozen times at maybe 10 different places, and Fatamorgana was my favorite. One example best demonstrates how good their gelato is; the mint chip had tiny bits of mint in it. Real mint. The green stuff. I've never seen that in gelato before; it's usually an extract. I know it's become a "foodie" cliche (God I hate that word), but this place uses fresh ingredients, and the result is an artisanal delight (that sounded pretentious too, sorry!). We visited the shop in the Monti neighborhood, and that was a bonus. Great location, great vibe to the neighborhood. We were amongst mainly locals, rather than a throng of tourists which was a nice change. So wherever you're staying in Rome, it's worth the short walk or cab ride to visit one of their shops.

Yelp
On the first day of a thirteen day tour of Italy with fifteen art students and four adults, this was our first gelato stop of many to come. It was the best we had all trip! Creative flavors and local atmosphere made our visit here a great tone setter for the whole time we were in Italy. All my students agree, it was the best!
