I’ve ordered from Fat Belly Pretzel & Deli twice now—once in person and once via delivery—and overall I’ve been underwhelmed, especially for the price.
I usually prefer to make my own sandwiches because it’s hard to find a really good one from a restaurant. That said, I’m currently sick and decided to order delivery and give this another shot since so many people rave about these sandwiches.
Across the sandwiches I’ve tried, the flavors are dominated by the pretzel bread itself. Unfortunately, the pretzel bread lacks much flavor and has a somewhat bland, almost papery texture, which ends up overpowering everything else. Most of what comes through is pretzel bread and a lot of mustard, and the fillings don’t really shine. It ultimately felt like something I could have easily made at home—and likely done better—which is disappointing given the cost and hype.
Our recent delivery order was also frustrating from a value standpoint. We ordered the mac and cheese for $5.25; while it was good, the portion was unnecessarily small and didn’t even fill the container. It’s pasta and cheese, so the portion-to-price ratio felt especially off.
When we went in person, the staff was very friendly, which I appreciated. I also tried one of the sweet pretzel pastries previously and found it leaned overwhelmingly pretzel-forward with very little sweetness, despite the description.
Overall, this place feels overpriced for what you get, and delivery in particular felt skimped while still charging full prices. With so many strong sandwich options in Nashville, this just didn’t stand out enough for us to return—especially for delivery.
