Best New Restaurants in Atlanta Right Now | Eater Atlanta

"James Beard Award-winning chef Terry Koval of The Deer and The Dove and his wife Jenn opened a wine bar in downtown Decatur in March, and it’s quickly becoming a neighborhood hang. As the name suggests, the bar has a tight wine and amaro program helmed by Matt Watkins, behind the beverage program at The Deer and The Dove. Atlanta’s coffee aficionado, Eugene Buchko, reports Fawn has one of the best new espresso martinis in the city, made with four different types of amaro. Sharable small and larger plates include dry-aged charcoal-grilled market fish, wild shrimp poached in cardamom caviar butter, and island clams with tuna. Fawn is walk-in only and open Wednesday through Saturday, from 4 to 11 p.m." - Henna Bakshi

Highly Anticipated Restaurant Openings This Spring Around Atlanta | Eater Atlanta

"James Beard Award–winning chef Terry Koval of The Deer and The Dove and his wife Jenn are opening a 35-seat, walk-in-only wine bar in downtown Decatur on March 19. Matt Watkins, who runs the beverage program at The Deer and The Dove, will create the drinks program here; the Amaro program will feature lesser-known labels and the wine list will carry bottles produced from volcanic terroir. The food will emphasize sharable small and larger plates, including dry-aged charcoal-grilled market fish, wild shrimp poached in cardamom caviar butter, and island clams with tuna, and a small chef’s bar will be reserved for a tasting-menu experience. Hours will be Wednesday through Saturday, 4 to 11 p.m." - Henna Bakshi

The Most Anticipated Atlanta Restaurants Opening in 2024 | Eater Atlanta

"James Beard winner Terry Koval is opening Decatur’s first wine and amaro bar in a cozy, low-lit setting inspired by Italian and Spanish wine bars, featuring a tight menu of charcuterie and local cheeses, crudos, fresh breads and pitas, caviar and desserts, plus a curated amaro selection and wines focused on volcanic regions (available by the glass and bottle); expected to open spring 2024." - Beth McKibben

James Beard Award-Winning Chef Terry Koval Is Opening Wine and Amaro Bar Fawn in Decatur | Eater Atlanta

"Conceived as a cozy, moody 40-seat wine and amaro bar opening spring 2024 at 119 East Ponce de Leon Avenue in Decatur, Fawn will bring downtown its first wine-and-amaro-focused spot. I was told it’s the “baby sister” to the Deer and the Dove and will carry characteristics from both that restaurant and Koval’s B-Side, with an arched wall separating a long bar from a European-style open kitchen; the tight kitchen will produce about six dishes and possibly a tasting menu—think house-made charcuterie with local cheeses, crudos, fresh breads and pitas, and caviar. Led by longtime Deer and the Dove beverage director Matt Watkins, the wine list will spotlight bottles and by-the-glass selections from volcanic regions such as the Canary Islands, Crete, Campania in Italy, and Verne in France, and Watkins plans to offer amari from several countries (including the U.S.) with likely flights to help guests explore flavor profiles—ideal for a pre- or post-dinner drink, dessert, or a relaxed bottle and light bites with friends." - Beth McKibben

Came on a Saturday -- highly recommend getting reservations. The ambiance was really nice - not too loud but the hum of humans chatting quietly was really calming. Low lighting and cozy seating is great. Drinks are a standout, excellent selection of options -- and the cocktails are really good! Food was okay, I don't think I would come here for food as a primary motivation -- our entrees all needed a little more acid or heat. Fish dishes came out kind of lukewarm, the pasta dish was too blunt with the cheese being too dense on the pasta and the seafood being really chewy. I'd stick to ordering their small plates Service is good, relaxed, professional with no hovering, just friendly people making sure you're having a good time. Fawn is a place to drink slowly, talk with your friends for a while, and maybe forgive a few culinary missteps because the bar definitely gets the important things right. Definitely will visit again for the bar.

Good food, good vibes. Cocktails are spirit forward with a great wine list. It is a seafood based restaurant and with cheese/cured fish board. They cure their own fish in house. I got the Caligula drink, really well balanced of spirit, bitter, and sweet. My husband got the bittersweet symphony which was more spirit and bitter forward, still well balanced. For food we got the snapper collar special and razor clams. Both really good. Ended with the affogato. I’d say it’s more of a drinks and bites place verse a full meal unless you do the tasting menu

Jenn and Terry Koval have set the standard for the rest of Decatur’s restaurants; not only with delicious food, but how they indeed fawn over their guests with the highest level of hospitality. Don’t be surprised if Jenn fills your water and Terry mixes your cocktail. Fawn Wine + Amaro, their newest adventure, is a clever and successful niche take on the aperitivo concept with a vast wine and Amaro selection that pair with a limited but curated menu.

I hope management sees this. Your concept is unique, and at first sight, exciting. We eat at many great restaurants in ATL. We were recommended you guys. The cocktails and wine and amaro were excellent, creative, and set the tone of the meal. The drink menu is one of the more exciting drink menus I've seen anywhere in Atlanta. Unfortunately, the rub for us, was the food. Your menu is a seafood focused menu. Every meat dish is some form of seafood, which we are ok with. The rub for us was the seafood was either cured, or smoked, or had caviar/sardines, like 80% of the menu. Nothing tasted light or fresh, not even the crab rissoles. Which they should have given it was one of the dishes that wasn't cured/smoked and was more straight forward. For the prices, I'm just not sure a concept like this can survive. I get you spend a lot of time curing/smoking your fish, and having a couple plates to show case that is awesome. However, for us, there were just too many overtly "fishy" flavors. We couldn't get away from it even though we ordered several things. Very overwhelming. We would happily return for cocktails as it stands, just not the food. By the way, service was exceptional. For context, we love Deer and Dove. You guys are def pushing boundaries.

Incredible small wine bar! Allie was very knowledgable. They have wines from volcanic regions and we had their Chardonnay sparking (Almacita Winery, Brut Nature, UCO valley, Argentina), as well as a red from Greece - Limino, Savvoglou Tsivolas Winery (“Lemnos Red”) from Lemnos. Chardonnay wine was dry, slightly bubbly, refreshing. Limnio was a light red…dry, oaky, and earthy. We also had an expresso, which was very smooth. Would absolutely recommend!

If you have two people, any of the seats at Fawn will be cozy and amazing. If you have four, try to get seats at the bar because those cozy booths are tight. We made reservations for four for a birthday dinner and were tucked (hilariously, all of our knees were touching) into one of those booths. Luckily, there were four seats at the bar that we moved to instead and had an amazing comfortable dinner with excellent drinks and top notch service. There are not many restaurants in the area that have a deep focus on seafood, and Fawn shows excellence in many different preparations. The bartenders had great drink recommendations, and the atmosphere was busy but quiet enough you didn't have to yell at the person next to you. We've been big fans of Deer and the Dove and B-Side, and we're super happy that Fawn has joined the family.

Google
We have stopped in here a few times now and each time has been a great, the drinks, service and atmosphere. The drink list is extensive and can be as simple or complex as you want. The bartenders are always friendly and helpful when looking through the menu. The space itself is a major reason we like to stop in!

Google
Excellent food and service. Each dish was interesting and delicious. Our server was prompt and was very knowledgeable about each dish. Wine selection was good. The only comment we had was the table was too small to have 4 people seated. I'm looking forward to going back.

Yelp
Decatur, a city nestled beyond Atlanta's frenetic pulse, hides a treasure: Fawn, a wine and amaro bar that dazzles like a sapphire in downtown Decatur. As a seasoned gastronome, I've tasted fine wines from Bordeaux to Barolo, but nothing prepared me for Fawn. It's a culinary cathedral, a sultry sanctuary where James Beard Award-winning chef Terry Koval conducts a symphony of flavors that seduces even the most stoic of epicureans. The ambiance is moody and intimate, like slipping into a velvet-lined confessional. The 35-seat space, crafted with meticulous care, whispers of European wine bars--think dimly lit haunts in Rome or Barcelona, with cast iron mirrors and exposed brick walls. The air thrums with an alt-rock playlist, a nod to my beloved Smiths, whose melancholic anthems inspire cocktails so poetic, Caligula would have blushed. The "How Soon Is Now?" martini, laced with amaro and yuzu, is a revelation--a drink that croons to your soul while tickling your taste buds with its herbaceous swagger. Razor clams, plucked from the pristine waters of Sapelo Island, are the freshest Georgia has ever offered. Served as a crudo, they shimmer with purity, their delicate flesh kissed by a citrusy zephyr and a hint of tuna nduja. Each bite is a love letter to the ocean, showcasing Koval's obsession with sourcing the finest coastal treasures. The chef's tasting menu, a reservation-only affair at the intimate chef's counter, is worth its weight in truffles, caviar, and unicorn tears. At $195, it's a multi-course odyssey that showcases Koval's well-traveled soul. Influences from the spice markets of Marrakech to the fish stalls of Tokyo are woven into every dish. The bluefin tuna bone marrow melts like a lover's promise, while the warm McIntosh oyster is a masterclass in elegance. The crab ravioli, though still finding its sea legs, sings with potential, its pure-crab filling begging for more indulgence. Koval's ethos--seasonal, local, and fiercely creative--shines through, with ingredients like wild Georgia shrimp from Brunswick and dry-aged fish that could make a Michelin inspector swoon. Koval's story, as captivating as his menu, is a love letter to Decatur. His James Beard win for Best Chef: Southeast in 2023 paid off debts and revitalized the city's dining scene. His global-local cuisine, with partnerships like Anchored Shrimp Co. and Sapelo Sea Farms, ensures every plate tells a story of Georgia's coast. A culinary alchemist, Koval transforms milk into divine ricotta. His passion and creativity are palpable, and his dedication to Decatur, a city he and Jenn have called home for over two decades, is the heartbeat of Fawn. Fawn is a revelation in a world of overhyped bistros and predictable menus. It's a portal to a world of flavor, where razor clams reign supreme, tasting menus glitter like gold, and Smiths-inspired cocktails serenade the soul. To dine at Fawn is to fall in love--with food, with wine, with the audacity of a chef who dares to dream in flavors. Book the chef's counter, order a "Panic" cocktail, and let Koval's coastal elegance sweep you away. Decatur, you've outdone yourself.

Yelp
Fawn is one of my go to happy hour spots especially since they have it on saturdays from 12-6. Love the ouef mimosa soft boiled eggs, salmon belly bacon and grilled oysters. Their four amaro espresso martini isn't on the HH menu but you can't leave with out. I recommend going right when they open as it gets much busier later in the service and it's nice to be in there when it's quiet. Service is always attentive with out being overbearing.

Yelp
Great food, beautiful staff, amazing drinks, I really couldn't ask for more from this place.

Yelp
Fawn is a cute upscale restaurant nestled in Downtown Decatur. I was able to grab a seat at the bar. The bartender was very attentive and friendly. I ordered the I Wanna Do Right, But Not Right Now for a cocktail; wasn't a huge fan. I had the Fritto Misto (calamari) as my app and it was delish. For my entree I had the fruit de mar burger which consisted of shrimp & salmon sausage combined into a burger format. It had a fishy taste to it so I didn't LOVE it but I didn't hate it either.

Yelp
I have been wanting to experience the chef's tasting menu since the creators of Deer and the Dove opened this unique wine bar. I was taken to Italy on a Wednesday night in Decatur..picture perfect lighting, some light rain, jazz playing in the background and an extensive wine menu, I couldn't ask for more. Even the intentional style of the dining tables was very much so elegant and I love the chefs open kitchen bar seating. I wanted the coastal vibes that come with Fawn and the unique spin on seafood dishes flavors. I got what I came for and much more! From the chefs who were so knowledgable and welcoming, to every dish bringing a different party to your palette. My chefs were Chef Kyle and Chef Albert, they both did such a great job at highlighting the ingredients in all nine courses and made me feel amazing, it was my birthday! My favorite course were the oysters with these really delicious and flavorful enoki mushrooms and this very zesty and fruity flavored beet gummy like snack, everything was so innovative and delicious.

Yelp
Fawn is a cozy resturant and bar with delicious seafood. Jess was our server and gave great advice and took care of us. We started with a glass of wine, which paired perfectly with our meal. We then shared the shrimp which were heavenly. Then we all tasted the spaghetti, fruit de mar burger and fritto misso (fried clams). Each dish paired so well with each other but stood out on its own. Will definitely be back and will be talking about this for a while. Do yourself a favor and go to Fawn.

Yelp
This place is great. If I were to design a menu/restaurant myself (and if I were capable of doing so), there's not a lot I would do differently. Amazing cocktails, wine, food, and ambiance. All very niche, and executed exceptionally. It's against my nature to encourage more people to go someplace I like, but I NEED this place to persist. So go there, please. (The music is nice and diverse, and if I were to suggest one tiny thing, it would be to focus more on Miles Davis-type jazz... or some other consistent vibe. But that might be the only difference MY restaurant would have lol. In this case, I'm obliged to nitpick.)

Yelp
Walked in with my girl with no reservation. Ambiance is cool, but the menu is very limited and plates are VERY, very small. I ordered the Spaghetti dish was told it was a "good" portion and was given a small bowl of basically only noodles with 3-4 clam pieces and charged $40 for it. I get everywhere is trying to do a sort of hybrid fine dining portion experience but yea no, we won't be back. No changes allowed also on all orders ( & some of them need changes).

Yelp
Delightful experience after I arrived moments after its opening and ordered three items and hoping to order more, but ruined by the manager who first claimed, please move down the bar, and then said my bar seat was too far out. Wear snooty clothes and you will be just fine. Alas, I buy mine at Walmart. Except my cowboy boots! Perhaps she should have looked at those instead? Lol. I moved elsewhere and the owner ran ‍ to me in a vain effort of recompense. Toooo late. I'm an old, relatively wealthy Walmart kinda guy:).
