"Conceived as a cozy, moody 40-seat wine and amaro bar opening spring 2024 at 119 East Ponce de Leon Avenue in Decatur, Fawn will bring downtown its first wine-and-amaro-focused spot. I was told it’s the “baby sister” to the Deer and the Dove and will carry characteristics from both that restaurant and Koval’s B-Side, with an arched wall separating a long bar from a European-style open kitchen; the tight kitchen will produce about six dishes and possibly a tasting menu—think house-made charcuterie with local cheeses, crudos, fresh breads and pitas, and caviar. Led by longtime Deer and the Dove beverage director Matt Watkins, the wine list will spotlight bottles and by-the-glass selections from volcanic regions such as the Canary Islands, Crete, Campania in Italy, and Verne in France, and Watkins plans to offer amari from several countries (including the U.S.) with likely flights to help guests explore flavor profiles—ideal for a pre- or post-dinner drink, dessert, or a relaxed bottle and light bites with friends." - Beth McKibben
