After a great lunch at Maxi nearby, we stopped for coffee and pastry. Very busy with mostly take out customers. Limited seating inside so we were lucky to find a seat. Very good pastry.

Fada Bakary on Mott Street is a beloved neighborhood café that has been serving the local community for years. It specializes in Hong Kong-style pastries and a daily variety of buns with different fillings. The bakery also offers traditional Hong Kong-style milk tea, staying true to authentic flavors. The space is clean, and the staff are patient and friendly. Although the bakery is usually busy, the staff work efficiently. When I visited, I had a hard time choosing because of the wide selection, but the cashier and staff were incredibly patient, answering all my questions with care.

Fay Da Bakery was a great stop for bubble tea. The hot bubble tea was only $5, the cheapest we found in Chinatown, and the quality was excellent. The bakery had a lively and bustling atmosphere, with a self-serve setup where you grab what you want and pay at the counter. The staff were friendly despite how busy it was. One thing to note is that there’s a $10 minimum for card payments, so it’s best to bring cash if you’re just getting drinks. Overall, it was a great experience, and I’d definitely go back.

Good, but not great. Fay da has quite a bit to offer in variety but the quality is not quite what I remember in the past. I purchased a few taro buns and they were each very poorly filled, and I felt I was mostly just eating plain bread. They do have taro mochi which is good but also not particularly well filled. While prices are cheap, there's better value at other bakeries in the neighborhood. The inside of the bakery has a few tables where you can sit, which is really nice.

If you know Fay Da you know it. This location is small but still has seating. All.of the favorites.and classics that you can find at their other locations. The staff is helpful and the service is very fast at this store. The location on Mott St & Canal St is very convenient and makes this an easy add to you list of shops when you make your Chinatown runs. Prices are always very reasonable.

The perfect spot for animal cakes! They’re always a hit with friends. Just ask for their zodiac sign and surprise them with the cake🎂it’s a memory they’ll cherish forever….

Chestnut bread is the bomb, its full of chestnut filling. They didn’t skimp at all on it and you can taste that it’s natural. Bread is so fluffy. They take card too! $10 minimum purchase.

We came here in mid-July for a quick bite. There was a good selections of pastries. We got a mango mochi, lotus seed puff and coconut bun. They all tasted delicious and fresh. We sat at the front by the window . There are a few tables to sit and eat. We paid cash. Staff were friendly and eager to help with your selections.

I found their mango mochi to be incredibly soft and delicious, though I wished for more fresh mango. I was also excited since during this time of year, they have individual mooncakes. The lava mooncakes were a disappointment since the filling was not runny; the salted egg yolk seem off colored; however, the ones where there is only paste from wintermelon to lotus tastes great. Not my favorite Chinese bakery, the selection was limited but we went on a Saturday afternoon. The prices were good ($2-$3)depending on the item, however I wasn't amazed by anything I got and would try somewhere else next time I'm in the area. Note: $10 minimum for credit card transactions

Whenever we visit Chinatown, we always take home some pastries. This is one of the two places we'll stop by. Prices are reasonable, although choices are limited but they are still fresh. Limited seating options, it's more of a quick takeout place. Service is quick and not as hectic during the busy hours compared to the other bakery we go to and not as touristy.

Great visit to this bakery which seems to be packed all the time! The pork buns were delicious and full of meat. This is a cash only business so be prepared. They have a wide collection of baked goods. It is definitely worth the trip.

Fay Da was the first bakery in Chinatown that, years ago, I started going to. Prices at that time were more reasonable than they are now, but they are still relatively inexpensive. (I also frequented the W. Village location after it opened.) My focus has mostly been on Fay Da's savory baked goods, since the sweet desserts like the mousses are less to my personal taste. I really enjoy the Roast Pork Buns and Hot Dog Buns, but these days you can also find those elsewhere. My favorite item remains Fay Da's Tuna Buns, stacked high and filling for $2.75. Everything I've had there is always fresh. One plus at this Fay Da, it also has some pleasant tables to enjoy your order with a coffee or tea.

This is your typical Chinese bakery for all your favorite baked goods. Specifically, I came here for their mooncakes during the Mid-Autumn Festival season. Their regular mooncakes are $8.50 for a single, but they also had mini versions with unique flavors for $6 each. I'm not a fan of the traditional mooncake flavors, so it is great that they offer unique flavors here. I got the Matcha Lava and Custard one to try. When I say they're mini, they're really tiny and bite-size at only about 2inches. The matcha one didn't have a strong flavor, but the custard one was good and did have a little lava flow when cutting into it. They come in an individual box, so great for gifts too.

We happened to stumble upon this place after lunch at Mamouns. Although there was a big selection of snacks and pastries, some of it look like it was sitting out for a while. I ordered the coffee milk tea with boba. This is the first place to ever ask if I want sugar added... Normally they just add it. The Boba itself was a little tough, as if it was sitting around for awhile or overcooked. Cash only!!

Mango mousse cake was 5**** but the service left a bad taste for me. Walked in around 1pm today and wanted a cake for a specific occasion. They couldn't accommodate and write what I wanted on the cake - completely fine but I wanted to try my luck at other bakeries before deciding. Came back to Fay Da to just grab a cake anyway and as i was checking out, it rubbed me the wrong way the cashiers there loudly said in Chinese "looks like she had no choice anyway and had to come back to us. Would you look at that." Excuse me but totally uncalled for. This is giving the nail salon gossipy vibes. So great cakes but rude service.

One of my favorite bakeries in Chinatown. Large selection of fresh bread & pastries. Coffee is also always hot & fresh. Accepts cards or cash, some seating if you are lucky but no restroom. The ladies at the counter are also nicer than most servers in the area. Recommend this spot!

Fay Da Bakery is to New York as a glove is to a hand. They just belong together. This Chinese staple has been around for quite a long time and I really do think that us New Yorkers can sometimes take institutions like this bakery for granted. I wanted to pop in here and talk about some of the pockets of joy that I've had the privilege of experiencing at this wonderful Asian bakery. The corn bun is my absolute favorite. It's the perfect balance between sweet and savory. You have a pillowy bun that has a buttery outer crust and then in the middle you have this concoction of sweet corn and a cream cheese like surrounding filling. As you bite into the bun, the softness and butter of the bun with the tartness of the cream cheese, and the sweet pop of corn is a bite perfectly carved in heaven. The filling to bun ratio is just perfect. Recently, I also tried some of their hot pastry items like the beef pocket and it was absolutely delicious. Flaky, buttery pastry with warm spiced beef inside. Just the perfect treat on a cold chilly day walking through Chinatown going about your business. Prices cannot be better. If you're in New York, you have to stop by here and sample their creations.

I really loved the birthday chestnut cake that I ordered from Fay Da yesterday. For a beautifully decorated berry-topped cake that I bought directly from the display case (I didn't have my act together to pre-order), it tasted wonderfully fresh and moist. When I arrived at around 9:45AM, the associate told me that the cakes had just been delivered that morning, so that was a good sign. She also mentioned that the chestnut paste is made with real chestnuts. I could taste very, very small soft chunks of chestnut, so that appears to be so. For a chestnut paste lover like me, I loved that there was abundant chestnut piping on top of the cake, as well as a thick layer of chestnut inside the cake. Overall, the sponge, frosting, and chestnut paste were not too sweet, yet still indulgent. A 6" cake was $24, which I thought was very reasonable. More standard Chinese-styled fruit cakes were cheaper, while the mousse cakes were about $5 more. For another birthday, I'm inclined to try their strawberry or mango mouse cakes, which were stunning! Fay Da's chestnut cake was much better than chestnut cake that I got a year ago from Taipan right around the corner.

Awesome bakery, quick service, just what you would expect. Prices were good and workers were very nice. Much better than the Fay Da bakery in the Flushing/Bayside area

On our Chinatown food crawl we preferred this bakery to its busier, more well known neighbors. Seemed clean and all items had labels in English clearly posted. The taro puffs were some of the best things we ate all day and we ended up going back for more! I also liked their unique mochi flavor like peanut which I'd never tried before. So many sweet and savory options and everything is super affordable so you can try a little of everything. Would love to visit again and try more goodies!

One of the bakeries in Chinatown that I frequent whenever I'm in the area. I'm a fan of their pineapple buns along with the roll cakes. They also serve a variety of beverages such as coffee and bubble tea to go with the bakery items they have. The bakery can get a bit hectic when there's a crowd, but the service is pretty fast and you'll move through the lines quickly. They do have a credit card minimum (I believe it's $15), so be prepared if you're not buying too much.

Small Asian bakery with decent baked goods. We got some buns as well as mooncakes for mid autumn festival. The mooncakes were solid and they had some unique flavors. We got a lotus with egg yolk, as well as a matcha and lava ube. The ube was interesting to try, but the texture was a bit gummy and there wasn't a strong ube flavor. The matcha was very good! Good tea flavor. 3 stars because it seems like the organization is a bit lacking--be careful with the bun labels, as what was labeled as bun with fish inside was actually just a plain butter bun :(

Always a lovely bakery and quick coffee/tea service. Came here to get some mooncakes to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival. Came with my 2 friends for their Lava mooncake Collection. One of my friend (non-Asian) never had mooncakes before and we were eager for her to taste them. They have lovely packaging and paper bag. There is a mooncake menu available and some mooncakes on display (at the front) to view. But, they are in the boxes and unable to view the actual mooncake. Since lava mooncake is best eaten warm (to taste the custard lava inside), we took them home. We bought various flavors and divided them up. After warming up the lava mooncake in the microwave for 20seconds (too long?), it was oozing. I wasn't a big fan of the purple yam one. My husband had the regular custard lava cake (not warmed up) and enjoyed it.

Went to this Chinatown staple bakery! I just ate lunch and wanted to get a drink pretty cheap and simple. Decided to come here for its reputation for cheap teas, desserts and buns. Got the Iced milk tea and it tasted not VERY sweet but just the right amount. It was very good and nostalgic tasting cause I've drank these types of milk teas from my childhood haha. The area can get pretty packed with Chinatown locals but the drink itself was only $3! Please come here for a cheap bite or little drink on the go :)

Quick service and relatively cheap for today's economy. All variations of cold and hot beverages with a large selection of Chinese pastry and buns. Everything is fresh due to high turnover.

Solid authentic Chinese bakery offering a nice variety of traditional items. I had the sweet topping bun (aka pineapple bun) with cream and really enjoyed the sweet crusty exterior that defines the typical pineapple bun aka pineapple bun. The custard inside is a bit on the sweeter side but had a great creamy texture. There are a few tables inside for seating. I went towards the end of the day so a bit bummed to see a number of items sold out.

Looove Fay Da! Prices are super reasonable - $1.95 for a warm roast pork bun, $2 for an egg tart, etc. My favorites here are the chocolate walnut bread ($2.25 I think), egg tart, custard bun, and pea and scallion braid. I always get some variation of these when I swing by! Their coffee+milk drink is also really good and hits the spot every time. The cashiers here move quickly so FYI, don't get intimidated. They mean well, they're very busy haha. I think it's 5 or 10 cents extra if you ask for a paper bag with a handle FYI. I swung by recently on a Saturday morning and all of their seats were filled with aunties and uncles hanging out so if you're looking for a casual cafe to catch up and chat at, this place is not it haha. This bakery is much more a utility spot than a cafe

There are Fay Da Bakeries all over NYC in Manhattan, Queens & Brooklyn. This one is super convenient at the corner of Mott & Canal Sts in the heart of Chinatown. The selection of pastries and buns is ample, both sweet & savory. They also have ready made cakes if you need a quick birthday cake, but you can also put in advance orders for special occasions. When you walk in, grab a plastic serving platter & tongs to make your selections. I like that all the baos, buns & sandwiches are under hinged self-serve display covers. Each item is tagged with both the English & Chinese descriptions as well as the born-on date & time, to guarantee you get the freshest. And they replenish the supply all day, but late in the afternoon, choices might get scarce. Make sure to check out the spinning carousel of golden brown baked goodies on the left. Choose the roast pork puff, chicken pie, curry beef puff or the apple turnover, all kept warm, crispy and flaky. And they are one of the few bakeries in Chinatown that take credit card for purchases of $10 or more. Hmm, I might go for an HK milk tea to go with my chicken pie...

Very limited seating, maybe 4 tables. Massive selection- unfortunately what I wanted, a steamed chicken bun, was sold out (it was sold out of the two other places I attempted to go to before this one) so I opted for the vegetable bun- pretty good. could have used more filling. Loved the fluffiness of the bun. One of the employees helped me figure out which bun was which and packed it for me. Maybe would return, but probably not as this was my third choice of steamed bun spots 10 credit card minimum.

Came here today and this time they were almost sold out of their pastries. They ran out of the yellow egg custards but got a lot of pineapple buns like always. Remember to always go there earlier in the day or before the evening starts to get as many pastries as possible! There will be a greater variety to choose from!

I've been coming here off and on forever. The bakery has fresh baked goods and the coffee is outstanding. I highly recommend if you want a great cup of coffee

I've enjoyed Fay Da snacks a few times before but never ordered a cake there until recently. Unexpectedly had the opportunity to get together with friends last minute. It also happened to be my husband's birthday, so decided to have an impromptu birthday celebration by getting him his favorite cake - Chinese sponge cake - light and not too sweet, and with fruit! Went to their website which was pretty straightforward, but my order was so last minute that I followed the instructions to email them directly. April responded to my email right away and was super-helpful. Placed the order, received a confirmation email - easy-peasy! Arrived to pick up the cake, even more beautiful than I expected. Hubby and friends were delighted, commenting on how fresh the fruit tasted. I loved the whipped cream frosting and light sponge cake. Success! Oh, and did I mention this also happened to be Lunar New Year? The Fay Da bakery team were champs - much appreciation and respect to y'all! Looking forward to ordering another cake soon - I'll plan to do it with more advanced notice next time though!

Opening at 7am was a major selling point for our need of Chinese baked goods early AM before our busy day. Roast pork bun was heavenly with good amount of meat inside. We enjoyed the sesame ball so much that it didn't get photographed cuz we ate it so fast. It was the biggest one we've ever had with probably red bean inside but it was INCREDIBLE! The lychee green tea was delightful, not too sweet. I lived in nyc 7 years ago and went to Fay Da frequently, so I'm happy to see them still thriving in Chinatown. Great classic spot.

I have been here a few times, and it was ok, decent buns and drinks. This time it was unfortunately very disappointing. The soy milk was sour and they convinced me it was freshly made (without having tried it) and the selection of buns was also quite limited and only a few savory options.

What can I say? This place is great. It's located at a convenient location (heart of Chinatown). The food is always tasty and inexpensive. And the service is fast. You really can't go wrong here. Their buns and pastries are also quite different from what you would find at a typical Asian bakery. They still have all the usual pork roast buns and egg tarts, but for curry puffs and tuna filled pastries, you would only find them here. It does get busy easily, so please know what you want to order before you get to the register and keep the line moving!

Decided to stop at this famous Chinatown bakery while exploring the area. I was surprised with the prices - around 3 dollars for a hefty pork bun? 2 something for the coconut bun and half loaf of milk bread for also about 3 dollars?? I love the self service system as it makes it very easy to go in, pick your treats and check out. They also offer a variety of drinks, including boba. We got the roasted pork bun (super soft and slightly sweet bun and delicious pork filling, surprisingly very light), coconut bun (another amazing bun with just enough sweetness from the coconut filling. Reminds me a lot of pastry goods you would find at a Brazilian bakery somehow and transported me to my childhood. We also picked up a loaf of Pullman bread to go, just what you would expect and great for breakfast toast!

Came for some authentic HK style bakery goods. The HK milk tea also hit the spot. Reasonably priced, lots of options, quick service. Not a lot of seating indoors.

Great selection of bread options for breakfast, lunch, or an afternoon snack! - Tuna bread: first off, the outside of this bread is beautiful! The swirly crust is evident of the fluffy pull-apart milk bread texture. The filling on the other hand was disappointing, I thought there would be some tuna mayo action going on, but it just tuna and some onions. I recommend mixing in a bit of kewpie mayo if you're eating this at home so it's not as dry. - Wife cake: more on the dry side, very flaky pastry but not enough filling to balance it out. If you prefer smooth winter melon filling, note that there are a few sugared melon chunks in theirs. - Egg Tart: classic egg tart from Chinese bakeries, can't go wrong with this - Coconut Raisin Bread Loaf - this was my favorite. Don't expect to use this as sandwich bread though because it will fall apart on you. The loaf itself is constructed from braided twists to layer in all the sweet coconut flake toppings. This is the Asian alternative (and I dare say an even better one) to the cinnamon raisin loaves you'll find in American grocery stores.

Definitely worth it for it's price point. A quick, cheap bakery with a large variety. I got the curry bun and pork floss roll. Didn't wow me, but were good nonetheless. If you want a variety of baked goods that expand beyond the typical asian bakery offerings, I'd check this place out.

This place is my childhood. My grandma used to take me here in the city and bring back 10 egg tarts because I loved them so much! To this day, these egg tarts still succeed in their delicious flavor, melt in your mouth taste, and reminder of my childhood. Their dan tats/egg tarts are classic -- buttery puff pastry crust outside, milky egg tart within. The pastry can honestly melt in your mouth and it can be difficult to hold onto it since it melts so easily. The bakery is self-service trays right now similar to 85deg Bakery. They're also cash only like most asian bakeries so make sure to bring cash!

Was looking for baked goods in Chinatown and stumbled upon this bakery. So many items to choose from, got the taro and sesame seed buns. Loved both, very fresh!

A trip to Chinatown would not be complete without a treat from this more well-established bakery in Chinatown! The popular beef curry puff was super flaky and packed with solid curry flavors. Appreciated the filling to pastry ratio! Just wanted to also give a shoutout to the Napolean Cheesecake (not the regular Napolean pastry). Loved the crunchy pastry layers as well as the thick cream cheese filling!! Will for sure be back to check out their other breads and pastries.

Delicious, fresh everything!!! I wish the warm steamed buns area was labeled better. I have often purchased the wrong item but ate them non the less and didn't regret it.

Top notch pastries served in this Mott Street establishment like I've never had before. Yes they have the standards egg custard tarts, hot dog buns like most Chinese bakery. Here they have Beef Curry Puffs, chicken buns which are outstanding. Along with their lemon drinks this place is a proven winner. Plus a dozen other shops mostly in Queens and even at Foxwoods Casino.

This Bakery has been my go to spot when I visit China Town. I would definitely recommend trying their soy milk with boba. It is very affordable at $3 for a small or $3.50 for a large. Just get the large!!! The soy milk is made fresh daily and the boba is made just right. They also have baked good which I tried as well. I had their Egg bun. It was airy, fluffy and the egg cream was so creamy and very light.

Warning: CASH ONLY. Cramped spacing but amazing price for your favorite asian pastries! Both them were good but the steamed buns were served warm. The baked bun contained more filling.

If I could give zero I would, not for the baked goods but the hassle and dishonesty at the counter. we gave a $20 bill and were shortchanged and when challenged it took 20 minutes for them to resolve it via their cameras. Resolution occurred but not without a lot of yelling and anger and reluctance to even begin checking their cameras for resolution. So watch out and be forewarned.

I always loved going this bakery every time we come to NYC for a visit. Their bakery foods are so delicious and so worth to go! Their bakery tastes much lighter and very fluffy. For every celebration, we always order fruit cakes because they're super delicious and healthy. It's perfect and not too sweet which I like the best!!! I'd recommend people who like not very sweet desserts then go this place! Be aware, this bakery store is very popular which is we will expect busy and long line to order these food.

I absolutely adore their mango mousse cake for celebrations! My fam loves it because it's the perfect sweetness (elders like their sweets on the lighter side) and it's a perfect mousse and cake hybrid. I also appreciate that they always give a pack of plates and forks with each cake purchase (Taipan doesn't) as well as candles. Can't forget about their famous curry beef pastries! I always get one if I'm in the area because they are really that good with their flaky pastry crust and delicious strong curry flavor. They definitely don't skimp on the curry seasoning that's for sure. The egg tarts are pretty good too. Winter melon lo po pastry...why have I not tried this before? I think I might've tried a mediocre lo po beng in the past which put me off them altogether but Fayda's version is much better. I'll definitely pick this up again at Fayda. It has winter melon filling and a thin buttery pastry shell. It's also much less sweet compared to the egg tart.

Delicious! My bf and I got some taro pastries with taro paste filling, egg tarts, and coconut flavored pineapple buns while waiting in line for a nearby dim sum restaurant. The egg tarts were pretty average but I think the taro pastries and pineapple buns were very good after heating them up in a toaster oven at home. They have so many other items too, including asian-style cheesecake and really fresh-looking steamed buns that I can't wait to try next time. Cash only btw!
