Tacos, tequila, cocktails, and an open-air party vibe

"Opening next week at 2471 N. Milwaukee Avenue on the former Father and Son’s Pizza parcel, this second Chicago outpost of a 2016 taco bar brings a high-energy, party-bar vibe where patrons toss ice shot glasses at a bell. The menu features tacos on tortillas made on-site — including a new lamb quesabirria with duck mole available Wednesdays and Sundays — plus items like grilled shrimp with mango, a crispy potato taco, and pork with pineapple, alongside boozy frozen margaritas. The space includes a 2,790-square-foot open-air patio and roughly 8,500 square feet indoors decorated with murals by Jason Botkin in collaboration with local artists Erik Lundquist and David Alvarado. Owned by Four Corners (which also has locations in Denver and Dallas) and initially developed on the culinary side by Brandon Sodikoff of Au Cheval and Hogsalt fame, the operation is presenting a softer, community-minded version for Logan Square and will launch a monthly First Fridays live-art series to showcase local artists and encourage neighborhood engagement." - Ashok Selvam

"I'm expecting the Logan Square outpost of Federales to bring its West Loop party-bar energy to 2471 N. Milwaukee with an 8,500-square-foot space and a retractable roof; the menu will be similar to the sister spot, and the bar is known for tequila served in ice shot glasses that patrons down and then throw at a bell." - Ashok Selvam

"A taco bar transplant from the West Loop, this location reproduces the party-forward formula with a large patio, retractable roof, and the social-tradition features that drew a younger, nightlife-oriented crowd at the original outpost. The concept—known for high-energy patios and traditions like slamming ice shot glasses into a bell—has raised local concern about shifting neighborhood character even as it aims for a spring opening." - Ashok Selvam

"I know the West Loop bar famous for revelers shooting tequila and then hurling those empty glasses made of ice at a bell is poised to open an 8,500-square-foot location in Logan Square. The spot, which also serves tacos, is taking over the former Marcello’s Father & Son at Milwaukee and Sacramento avenues and is typically crowded on weekend summer days with customers wanting to snag a patio space; a rendering of the Logan Square site shows a patio. Management describes it as “a lofty, open-air bar concept mixing tacos, tequila, and cocktails under a retractable roof,” the menu would be similar to the West Loop location, and the opening was pegged for quarter two 2023. Federales debuted in 2016 in West Loop, is owned by Four Corners (a concept developed by Au Cheval founder Brendan Sodikoff), and Four Corners has also opened Federales locations in Denver and Dallas." - Ashok Selvam

"The bro-y bar chain Federales has obtained a permit to build a new restaurant at 2471 N. Milwaukee Avenue in Logan Square; the owners say this second Chicago location will bring the same popular tequila-and-taco concept—authentic drinks, creative tacos, and an industrial vibe—to the neighborhood in 2023, putting it in direct competition with nearby Estereo." - Naomi Waxman
