"Opening next week at 2471 N. Milwaukee Avenue on the former Father and Son’s Pizza parcel, this second Chicago outpost of a 2016 taco bar brings a high-energy, party-bar vibe where patrons toss ice shot glasses at a bell. The menu features tacos on tortillas made on-site — including a new lamb quesabirria with duck mole available Wednesdays and Sundays — plus items like grilled shrimp with mango, a crispy potato taco, and pork with pineapple, alongside boozy frozen margaritas. The space includes a 2,790-square-foot open-air patio and roughly 8,500 square feet indoors decorated with murals by Jason Botkin in collaboration with local artists Erik Lundquist and David Alvarado. Owned by Four Corners (which also has locations in Denver and Dallas) and initially developed on the culinary side by Brandon Sodikoff of Au Cheval and Hogsalt fame, the operation is presenting a softer, community-minded version for Logan Square and will launch a monthly First Fridays live-art series to showcase local artists and encourage neighborhood engagement." - Ashok Selvam
"West Loop party bar Federales will blast into Logan Square this summer with an 8,500-square-foot outpost equipped with a retractable roof." - Ashok Selvam
"Federales, a West Loop bar famous for revelers shooting tequila and then hurling those empty glasses made of ice at a bell, is poised to open another location this spring in Logan Square. The 8,500-square-foot bar, which happens to serve tacos, is taking over the former Marcello’s Father & Son at Milwaukee and Sacramento avenues. Federales is typically crowded on weekend summer days with customers wanting to snag a space on the patio in West Loop. A rendering of the Logan Square space shows a patio. Management calls it “a lofty, open-air bar concept mixing tacos, tequila, and cocktails under a retractable roof.” The menu would be similar to the West Loop locations, according to a rep. The opening is pegged for a “quarter two 2023” debut." - Ashok Selvam
"Notoriously bro-y bar chain Federales has successfully obtained a permit to build a new restaurant at 2471 N. Milwaukee Avenue, according to Chicago Cityscape. The site formerly housed Marcello’s Father and Son Restaurant, which closed in 2019 after more than 70 years. A section of the pizzeria’s empty building was demolished in late November. The location will put Federales in head-on competition with nearby Estereo, the popular cocktail bar amid an expansion into Fulton Market." - Naomi Waxman
"Federales is loud and crowded with the type of people who like to get tables and bottle service, or at least wish they could get tables and bottle service. But Federales knows exactly what it is, and makes it work. The space is big with a large outdoor patio. It’s great for big groups, but the process of getting a table can be a pain. That’s because there is no process. You’ll have to hunt for people getting ready to leave and pounce like a vulture to snag their table. So yes, it’s a sh*tshow, but a fun one. You’ll probably want to treat this place as a novelty rather than a destination. Order a round of tequila shots that come in shot glasses made of ice, and throw them at the bell they have set up outside for just that." - Zach Nerenberg
