Absolutely loved this place. Came here by myself for a holiday breakfast meal and was treated so kindly by the staff despite being the only person here. Obsessed with the potatoes and the quirky pieces in the outdoor space. Will be back again!

Why get your rotisserie chicken from the store when you can grab one of the tastiest juiciest whole roasted chickens right here? (I am a weekly customer.) The catfish sandwich is excellent - I recommend pairing it with cole slaw and fried okra!

Chicken sandwich was amazing, fresh cut fries, amazing sweet tea. Great relaxing atmosphere. Quick and excellent service, guy behind the counter was super down to earth. Will definitely be back. Best meal I've had so far in Chicago

This is a great place, I'm surprised it's not packed every time I go because this is legit such a lit location. They got s patio, spacious dining room, super clean, excellent food. The carrot cake is incredible. I can't recommend this place enough. Friendly staff, great food, good prices.

Feed was awesome! Their place was huge and clean. They offer great Southern food at a reasonable price. I tried their fried catfish sandwich and it was very crispy. Even their pulled pork was juicy, and the buns were great. Really good experience, service was good, food was great. I would recommend this place to anyone nearby.

Great food from scratch. Strong selection of delicious side dishes, desserts and interesting beverages to accompany main dishes covering everything from fried fish, chicken, and BBQ.

Stopped for breakfast specifically for the Country Fried Steak based on FEED having the best in the city. Between that dish and the ham and biscuits and gravy, we were over the top pleased! We will be back to try the dinner menu soon! In addition to the food being great, the staff were phenomenal!!

Pros: The food Cons: Might be addicting. Tips: The little plastic container they give you when you order chicken & salad is *not* dressing. Ha! I've poured hot sauce on my salad so many times. Wishlist: Spinach for the salad. Hard to believe I haven't written a review for this place yet. Every time I come here, I order the chicken. I don't know what their secret is but I think they're basting it with liquid crack. Someone call the cops! Seriously, the mashed potatoes and gravy are satiating. Seating is booths and no frills chairs with tables. They bring your food out, you take it to the bins when you're done. But I don't care about any of that. Come get your chicken!

If you're looking for clean and fresh then avoid this place. If you like greasy then this is the place for you. Stomach bothered me for hours after eating an omelette here. Just not my kind of place, but others like it.

I just tried this place for the first time but I just did carry out. They made the meal pretty quickly and overall it was pretty good but not amazing. If half stars were a thing I'd probably give this 3.5 stars. The only thing I'd go back for is the banana pudding. Here's what I tried in the fried chicken dinner: - fried chicken (obviously): good not the best I've had by any means - biscuit: good flavors but dry. I wish it came with a honey butter or jam or something - mac & cheese: had zero seasoning so it was much better when I sprinkled some salt in - house salad: nothing special but that's on me for getting salad at a soul food place I also got banana pudding which was SO GOOD! By far the best thing I had.

Small southern style food spot that some family and I decided to try when they lived in the area. It's a nice, clean looking place with a cool decor. We ordered takeout the time we went and we all just thought it was okay. Nothing I ordered at the time blew me away, honestly. I'd say service was good and attentive. If I go again I'll update, I think it deserves another chance.

We had been to Feed about 15 years ago and remembered it as being a wonderful small restaurant. We revisited Feed for lunch and it seems to still be recovering from the pandemic. Business seemed slow and there were only two employees working. The food is still pretty good and the desserts were very good. Our group had the "Bowl of Shame", the hash, and a catfish sandwich. All were solid but not fabulous. I hope Feed continues to grow back into the excellent restaurant we remember

Fried chicken wings cooked to perfection homemade pies and cakes. Bake daily delicious hamburgers, fries salads everything is fresh cooked to order homemade soups.

I just LOVE this place. It serves delicious, freshly prepared southern food in a super charming atmosphere. Inside, you feel transported to a mid century diner somewhere in the South of the U.S. Outside, the patio is sunny most of the afternoon. Their food is tasty and very reasonably priced. If you have any apetite left, you should try their home-made pie. So good!!

Interesting place. I needed some time to kill while waiting for my dad's outpatient surgery, and what better way to kill time than through eating! I came across this place, through my Yelp app of course, and the pictures and reviews were a bit quirky, and I was intrigued. Plus I hate paying an arm and a leg for breakfast, so this place seemed perfect. When I say quirky, this restaurant is the epitome of the word. It reminds me of a little restaurant that one would find in the middle of a family owned farm, where the chickens where in the backyard awaiting their doom of becoming the next lunch or dinner dish on someone's plate. It just had that feel. Walking through the door took me aback, because it seemed like I was the only soul there. No customers in sight, and the girl working there behind the counter said nothing. So I sat down, thinking she would come around and take my order but ahe finally spoke up and told me I had to place my order at the counter. They have a limited breakfast menu, so I just went with some bacon and eggs and potatoes. It wasnt bad, I mean what can really go wrong with bacon and eggs, unless you burn it. The reataurant is a little dark inside, goofy decorations, and a water jug to the right of the counter. To be honest, I was a little skeptical grabbing a glass of water from there as it looked a little sketchy, but I lived. Great customer service would have definitely earned this restaurant another star, but it was extremely lacking the day I was there. So for now, 3 stars it is.

I live like 10 minutes away from Feed so I am always riding pass this place. My first thought was what kind of food does this place serve? The outside looks very shabby with rusted metal on top. I read a few yelp reviews and figured I couldn't go wrong. Sometimes, the most shabby looking places have the best food. Really can't judge a book by it's cover. Well here it goes on Friday after work I stopped into Feed's. I was greeted by Marco who was friendly and patient with me while I decide on what to eat. There were a few items on the menu that I wanted to try. I decide on the Perch dinner which came with 2 side items. My 2 sides were the Mac & Cheese and Greens. I recommend that my perch be fried well done with sale and pepper . Marco was nice and offered me a cup of water while I waited. FYI Only Cash. No plastic card payments. The décor is a little strange with many different chicken artwork and other items. Kind of cluttered and looks old fashioned. But unique is good. The food 6/10. My Perch was fried a little too hard. I couldn't even eat it because it was fried that hard. No seasoning. The perch was more like a fish stick. The mac & cheese was good. The greens was watered down and had no taste. Customer Service 10/10 Marco was friendly, patient and attentive.

"Feed" What a cool little place on the corner of Chicago & California Avenues. I've driven buy a few times & wondered what kind of food it was? The restaurant appears to be a shack from the outside w/corrugated metal panel awnings. The Inside of it has an old country vibe w/painted red wood panels decorated w/an Assortment of framed chicken artwork and an odd assortment of Nick knacks adorning the walls. The furniture has an old country look w/old country style furniture. The menu is posted above the ordering counter displayed on a chalkboard w/an assortment of colored chalk. The food is ordered at the counter and when it's ready you go and pick it up at the counter. I chose an order of chicken fried steak w/country gravy, fried potatoes, two eggs over easy and rye bread. To me there wasn't anything remarkable about the food I ordered, but I kind of liked the restaurant vibe. I was really hoping this place was good. Especially based off the reviews. Anyhoot I got the whole chicken and it was dry, like bone dry. Then they gave me tortillas with it and salsa. My sides where mac/cheese and mash both like straight out of a can "add water" so is this place a Mexican joint or comfort food joint? ‍ 1 if that.

Wow! The rotisserie chicken is soooo good! I'm really not sure on the seasoning but it is so delicious. It's not overwhelming...just really tasty flavor. Big bonus is it is not overly salted as well. The chicken is so juicy too! I stopped by on a whim because I love southern food. Looking forward to come back and try the sides and pork!

We visited Feed because we were looking for local restaurants in that area that provided sit and eat options. First let me start by stating there is indoor and patio options for eating. The staff was nice and welcoming. The seating was adjusted to provide safe distancing. The place had a country feel and was country clean. There were displays of chicken decor throughout, down to the white crocheted chickies. Chicken is the specialty, so I ordered roasted chicken. It was pretty good, juicy on the inside, crisp on the outside. My sides were sautéed spinach (tasty) and corn pudding. My iced tea was house brewed. It was bitter sweet and had a strange after taste, even after adding lemon. The sweet potato pie was delicious. The other person in my party tried the fried perch, Mac and cheese, and mashed potatoes w gravy. The mashed potatoes were the highest rated of the items served with this dinner. Being very familiar with Soulfood, we expected a much better Mac & Cheese. It was thought to come from a box kit. The Perch was planko fried fillets that needed seasoning. My meal was a 3 (average). The other meal was scored much lower. Since this is my review, I'll give Feed the benefit of my score. We wanted to try it, so we did. We'll leave this place for the masses that appel

Sometime ago prior to shopping in the area at Aldi, I had some spare time to hop on Yelp and search what restaurants were near. Well, Feed popped up, so I scrolled through its reviews, tips and pictures. And needless to say that the rest was history because from there I bookmarked it. Anyway! My initial visit came after feeling in an adventurous foodie mood, deciding to eat at Feed prior to hitting the boundary between Humboldt Park and East Garfield Park neighborhood. The restaurant itself has been one of my bookmarks for a while now, so I figured why not? Parking is the only reason that has held me back from eating here within my discovery of it. As for parking your only option is street parking which can be limited at times and may put you further out from the restaurant, so choose wisely when or if you visit. I almost said the hell with eating here before doing a u-turn to snatch an open spot I found on West Chicago Ave. After entering the restaurant, I could not help but to look around at its intriguing interior which consisted of chicken decorations & pictures all over it. Other than that, the restaurant has this old-fashioned feel to it. Kind of like a combination of a momma-and-poppa breakfast diner and a southern food restaurant with a serious obsession with chickens! Being that I wanted breakfast, breakfast was the main thing I searched for on their displayed menu. And speaking of breakfast, it is served from 8:00 AM -3:00 PM. As for my order, I ordered the biscuits and gravy w/ 2 eggs which arrived in a timely manner. The biscuits and gravy was flavorsome! And when I say flavorsome I am meaning that my taste buds will crave it regularly. There was just something about it that made my taste buds go wild! And prior to leaving I giggled at the employee and stated that "I need to leave before I order something else." In closing, I left Feed happy and with a bloated tummy, realizing that I had to push my workout back towards the evening, go figure! FYI, take notice of their nightly specials which will have you considering it as an option for dinner as well. And be sure to bring cash, but if you forget, the restaurant does have an onsite ATM. I used to eat at Feed many years ago and came back in the area. What disappointment for the breakfast . The prices have increased and there is nothing special in the menu. I ordered the ball of shame which I remembered to be a good size and with flavor but I got so disappointed. It was indeed a shame!! Same for biscuits and cornbread. Very dry and old . It may be good for the chicken ( which I still have to assess) but certainly not for anything else in the menu. So sad!!

Food was ok; inexperienced wait staff. Should not be classified as "soul food." Chicken had good flavor and gumbo was hearty and filling. Catfish was fried and seasoned well.

I stumbled across this place after leaving Christy Webbers which is down the street. Feed looked like an interesting hole in the wall so I got excited at the thought of discovering a hidden gem. Not! While I ate most of the food to be honest I could've passed altogether. The food was just food, nothing special and pretty bland. I had fried okra, corn pudding and a BBQ chicken sandwich. The fried okra felt like cut up frozen okra. Even if they dusted the okra with pepper it would've been a vast improvement. The corn pudding was also bland and a tad on the dry side. And if I didn't have a cup of water with my meal I may have not been able to swallow the corn pudding down easily. It was more of the same with the BBQ chicken...bland. If I lived in the neighborhood and needed to grab some dinner I'd probably end up ordering pizza. To be fair, I only tried one meal, however, I believe my experience would be a good indicator of the kitchen's approach to the rest of the menu.

Chicken. Chicken. Chicken. Period. Sauce. Tortillas. The sides are hit or miss on any given day, but we mix it up always. We like this place because it's just plain good. Nothing fancy. Friendly staff. Sometimes they move a little slow, but they're good people! Brought our entire choir here on a week night and they easily accommodated the group. Good food. Good times!

I'm not sure what's going on at Feed but the service and the food is just not the same. I stopped in with my daughter for lunch, we sat down and waited, waited, looked around-no, only 2 tables had customers so I look at the waitress that was behind the counter,waved, just in case she didnt see us and still she didnt say a word so my daughter says...Ma let's leave! I went up to the counter and the waitress say "may I take your order" Wait a FKN minute here! I just shake my head and went ahead and ordered the usual. Half a chicken with 2 sides, I figured let's make this easy for her since it obviously seems like she does NOT want to work. Well, we somewhat ate cause the chicken was BLAH asked for containers and left! After being a regular customer- no mas! Oh and the gravy was to salty!! Byob, affordable, large menu, large portions, great quality and explosive flavor. Definitely will be back soon...everything we had was 5 star! I ordered friend green tomatoe egg benedict. Base was a crispy, somewhat sweet cornbread topped with a crispy, flavorful cornmeal coated green tomato. Egg on dish cooked perfect as was hollandaise sauce. Potatoes served with delicious! BF ordered pulled pork omelet with cheese grit side. Grits were AWESOME. Pork tender and eggs cooked perfect. Had these 2 dishes, a side of bacon and 1 coffee and total was 25$. Can be VERY crowded as it is small and there was only 1 waitressing when packed. Worth wait!

Hole in the wall place in an unsuspecting location. I was searching for soul food and wound up here. I had a quarter dark with collard greens, mashed potatoes with gravy, and an extra side of corn pudding. Chicken was great, cooked to perfection. Skin was crispy and meat was juicy. The chicken also came with two soft shell tortillas and a savory sauce! The collard greens were flavorful and it tasted as if they used smoked turkey instead of ham to cook them (that's the correct way) Corn pudding was disappointing. It had green bell peppers in the mix and that gave an odd flavor. Overall great experience. I'd like to try more of their menu.

It's a pretty good spot if you want affordable and good comfort food! It's cash only, but there's an atm in the restaurant that charges $2.00 to withdraw. It's not bad because the rest of the menu is so affordable! For a meal for 2, our total came out to be less than $20. Onto the actual taste of the food itself, I got the 1/4 chicken with Mac and cheese, and French fries. The chicken and fries were great! The Mac and cheese did taste a bit older than I like, but other than that; no complaints. Large portions!

I'm not sure whats going on here but since it has happened three times now I thought I share a PSA. I ordered the food Enjoy it Immediately following my stomach pains me like I'm having a third child and I spend the night in the bathroom. This only happens to me when the food preparation isnt clean. So me....I'm opting to share and not come back since it has happened three times. The last dinner we've had is just meh at best. I am not sure what happened to then since my initial review. Their grilled chicken is dry, corn pudding dry, mash potatoes lumpy and salty, mac a d cheese is flavorless bland, and they are always out of their sweet tea. It's close to home but damn! Can we work on the food pleaSe?

Catered food experience. Surprised that the chicken isn't fried, but it is succulent. Not much seasoning to speak of. Black bean side was peppery and hearty. Coleslaw was tame, lightly sauced and presented with slices of green bell peppers. lentil and tomato/corn side was tasty, spiced well. Corn bread was very mushy with no flavor distinction. Man n cheese was dry. sauteed spinach by itself was fine, but plain. I wouldn't say the food is either mind-blowing or bad, just standard and sort of plain, not the comforting southern food you're expecting. I prefer Honey Butter Chicken.

Got super lucky finding this gem on Yelp while in the neighborhood checking out some coffee shops. On vacation from Philadelphia, my friend and I'd drank pretty steadily the day before and finding a place that had a literal 'Bowl of Shame' was just what the tum-tum ordered. My friend got the special, which was meatloaf that tasted exactly like my mom makes. My bowl was everything I dreamed it would be (and they even let me order a side of fried green tomatoes!) We loved the random rooster/chicken tchotchkes & brick-a-brac and it was just the best little hole in the wall that I could see my self going to as a regular for breakfast. Would absolutely go again next time I'm in Chicago!

This is a hole-in-the-wall that specializes in rotisserie chicken and the food is terrific. I had a chicken leg and thigh with spinach and Mac n cheese and it was delicious. My wife had a leg and thigh with collards and fried okra, which was likewise delicious. We washed it down with sweet tea. We can unreservedly recommend this joint. We want to come back to try breakfast. Cash only.

Chicken was reheated refried really chewy. Mac and cheese lacked flavor. I am not going to order from here again.

Nice little shack. Very unassuming place that serves solid food. The breakfast omelet plate was pretty good. Service was friendly and fast. Besides us at 9:45am, there was a to-go order for pulled pork so i guess they serve more than just breakfast in the morning.

Charming little soul food place. We were expecting this to be a fried chicken place, but they only serve rotisserie style chicken. That said, they serve EXCELLENT rotisserie chicken - juicy with crispy skin and a variety of sauce options if you want that sort of thing (definitely check out the onion infused vinegar). For sides, the cheesy grits were AMAZING. So delicious. The mac was good but nothing special. I really enjoyed the corn pudding (it's a bit more solid than other versions I've tried, which suits me fine). It's cash only, but you can also go on a date for 2 for less than $20 if you split a chicken (and walk out feeling REALLY full)! Not necessarily worth a trip out of the way, but a great option if you've worked up an appetite walking through Humboldt Park or going shopping along California.

Found this via Yelp and were looking for some good breakfast! Super impressed with this place, especially the cozy outdoor patio! Food was great and I really enjoyed the coffee! There was a couple with their dog, which I thought was super cool -it's outside anyway. Why not share your breakfast with your furry friend? Really low key vibe, good food, good people. A little hidden gem in quiet area.

The "Meh. I've experienced better" is spot on how I feel about this place. You sit, order, and when you're done, you pay up front. So this makes splitting checks easy. When I saw the soul food, I thought of fried chicken. Unfortunately, the only chicken they had was rotisserie like that wasn't that great. & don't get me wrong, rotisserie chicken is pretty good (especially from Costco), but this place was as flavorless as it gets. And they only had 1 bottle of BBQ sauce that another table was using.. I felt too awkward walking up to the table to ask for their sauce so I let my taste buds suffer. The fried catfish was pretty bomb though. And I don't even like fish that much. Skip the mac & cheese as it was dry and not very cheesy.. Also go ahead and skip the mashed potatoes as it wasn't smooth at all and tasted bland. It literally was just some potatoes that were mashed.. no flavor. The price was fairly cheap though so if you're looking for a lot of food and don't mind bland tastes, come here for the inexpensiveness.

Breakfast is so good. The specials are always great. I have never even ordered from the breakfast menu because I always order one of the specials, especially any kind of hash. Good barbecue chicken. The cat fish sandwich is also incredible. The staff is awesome

I have never had a bad meal. Every time I go there I know the quality of food and service I'm getting. I'm from the south, so this is a little taste of home for me! Breakfast menu is also amazing. Chicken is INCREDIBLE. Juicy..never dry. Fried okra and broccoli are my favorite sides.. sandwiches never disappoint either! Used to be cash only, now they accept credit cards! PS: try any dessert available bc it's always worth it

I've been here a few times now and the first time, I was really impressed. Since, I'd have to knock a star off. It's delicious, straight-forward food. However, the last couple of times I've gone, the sides were rather bland. The meal itself is great. I'd highly recommend the chicken! I probably wouldn't recommend the collard greens but the Mac and cheese was fairly good. Really great to have this kind of place in this part of the city.

Feed is always the BEST when you're craving southern food. Love their weekend brunch (the fried green tomato Benedict would be my last meal if I was on death row) and the service is always so friendly! They're offering really great specials for take-out as well. Support local businesses and give them a try.

Ventured here from the SW suburbs with my honey for breakfast on a Saturday morning. Unlike many Ma and Pa places, the coffee was strong and flavorful. The menu touts a few Southern dishes that I am always down for (e.g., cheese grits). I asked whether milk was used in their recipe..."No, solamente agua y queso". Although apprehensive, I took the dive. They were very good. A nice consistency of smooth, but not too stiff, and loaded with cheddar to bring about a creamy taste. There was a little issue about the duration of time the cornbread would take to cook. Hee hee hee. But, the service, food and coffee are worth a return trip. Maybe to try out the fried okra, next time.

Ordered the catfish dinner and the fried chicken dinner drink iced tea for dessert had banana putting the banana putting was fabulous everything else desperately needed seasoning the food was completely tasteless big disappointment

I love this place! I take my clients here because it is as authentic of a restaurant as you can find and they serve genuine, honest food in a no frills manner. It is one giant room with quirky chicken and egg art all over the walls. There are booths on one side and tables in the middle. You make your choices off the chalk boards and then order at a window from the owner, usually. Then the food comes out to your table and it is excellent. The food cannot be criticized and the coffee is exceptional. Go here. Support this kind of raw, ragged entrepreneurism and eat well in the process. Then come back with others and show it to them. It's an experience worth going out of your way for.

Awesome employees. Super nice lady who took our orders. Yummmmy chicken, just wish there was more of it. "1/4 lb" wasn't quite a quarter pound but they were generous with their side portions. Their beet salad was bomb. Collard greens not bad. Mash potato was good. Corn pudding was new for me--it's a mix of cornbread and corn. Mac and cheese was ok. Thai coffee was also ok imo. Would I come back? Maybe-the price was nice for everything you get. I might just stick to more of their chicken than sides next time.

It is a small cozy place that one can easily miss. I got their roasted chicken dinner with sides including- mac n cheese, fries. Roasted chicken- very very good.. the fat was trimmed and the chicken was baked so well! It comes with a dipping sauce ( that i cant figure out what it is, but its yummy!) and 2 tortillas ( that i did not end up using :( Mac and cheese- it was reallly dry and i did not like it one bit ( unfortunate for me b/c i love mac n cheese!). The fries were really very fresh and tasted great! Whats worth writing about are their desserts- the banana one in particular! i forgot the exact name of it, but its a banana pudding type thing and its DELISH!! Its better than banana pudding ive had anywhere! They also have a white sponge cake marinated in evaporated milk, its very sweet and also good. Their whipped cream is HEAVENLY! It is sooo light , maybe this is what a cloud tastes like in heaven.. idk.. neither do u.. but try it!! This place is also really cool for another reason - they have veggies that u dont really get commonly- fried okra, socatash ( spelling?), collard greens, beets.. im not a veggie gal, but the bf GOBBLED up his veggies like a pro! Its a very friendly place, our dinners came out in 15 min and its CASH ONLY!!! Im not sure i will return for dinner since i want to try out more places before i leave c-town.. but i suggest u come and give this small, homey southern style place a try!

Such a cozy spot! My family came here for brunch on a Sunday and we were seated right away. The service is friendly and the food is good. I ordered the tomato, spinach and feta omelet with a side of toast and potatoes. I must admit the potatoes were my favorite part of the dish! I also shared a pancake with my mom. The pancakes are basic but are cooked just right! FYI - they only take cash.
