"Feijão do Luís started in 1996, when the “Brazilian Touch Cafe” was inaugurated on Oxford Street, in the center of London. Although it was small and hidden inside a larger store, it became increasingly popular among the Brazilian community, and before long, the majority of Brazilians in London knew the place. It was decorated with vibrant paintings, played Brazilian music, and sold a variety of sweets and Brazilian desserts. But what truly made it famous was the feijoada – the traditional Brazilian dish – and the café soon became known as Feijão do Luís, in honor of its founder Luiz de Souza. More than just a café, Feijão do Luís became a meeting point for Brazilians in London."
"Homesick Brazilians flock to Feijão Do Luis, a Brazilian restaurant in the basement of a bar in Fitzrovia. This community spot hosts live music and screens big Brazilian football matches, but the food is what most come for. Big plates of beef ribs, chicken parmigiana, and stroganoff alongside de Souza’s inimitable hospitality. The feijoada, a hearty black bean stew, is as good as any you’ll find in the city, with plenty of pork ribs and smoky sausage. Served with buttery farofa with caramelised onion, it makes for a nap-inducing lunch." - jake missing
"Homesick Brazilians flock to Feijão Do Luis (Portuguese for Luis’ beans) for live music, big Brazilian football matches, and even bigger plates of beef ribs, chicken parmigiana, and stroganoff. "That Brazilian food is now widespread has plenty to do with Luiz de Souza, who opened Brazilian Touch Cafe on Oxford Street in the mid-1990s. Homesick Brazilians still flock to Luiz’s restaurant, now located in a basement below a bar in Fitzrovia. "When Luiz de Souza arrived in London in the 1980s, Brazilian food was almost impossible to come by. That it’s now widespread has plenty to do with de Souza, who opened Brazilian Touch Cafe on Oxford Street in the mid-1990s. Homesick Brazilians still flock to Luiz’s restaurant, which has moved from Oxford Street to a basement below a bar on nearby Hanway Street in Fitzrovia. "O Feijão do Luis is the least likely restaurant on this list. Above a tourist shop opposite Primark on Oxford Street, a Brazilian flag hangs like a beacon. Head upstairs once inside the aforementioned shop and you’re greeted by a small dining room and very un-central London kitchen. A short menu is scribbled on A4 paper. There are snacks (killer coxinhas and kibes) and a few mains: stroganoff; steak with rice and beans; feijoada. The latter is perhaps not the city’s best, but silky and generously porky, served traditionally, and an £8 portion is enough for two." - Tomé Morrissy-Swan
