Finca Pintxos - Review - Downtown - Salt Lake City - The Infatuation

"When you need a quick bite before heading to the Eccles Theater, stop by Finca Pintxos for rounds of tapas and Spanish wine. They have the usual suspects like pan con tomate and patatas bravas, but we recommend kicking things off with the wood-roasted mushrooms or cauliflower. The best small plate is the shrimp swimming in a broth made of brandy and garlic, which is so good you’d happily jump into an actual ocean of it. You can come here and leave satisfied without being stuffed, which means you’ll be alert enough to make it through whatever production your musical theater-obsessed friend is taking you to." - Jenny Willden

It was definitely interesting place. We like the place in the beginning with the food and atmosphere and friendliness with our server. He was friendly and so kind but once he left, we had a such an awful experience with our new server who took it over after him. We didn’t get enough of our needs when we were patiently waiting as we were able to see she was on her phone most of the time, and also not so great interaction with our order. It’s definitely a fun little hipster-ish place. It’s a small place that doesn’t get crowded or loud which I liked it. My drinks were great and I loved the food here, all the little tapas stuff that’s perfect for drinks but not for a meal. I have a mixture of feelings in this place that it could have been better!

Update May 2025 With great sadness, i need to update this review. I recently went with some friends and what made this place so special is now gone. The food quality had taken a nose dive, the place was dirty, the bathroom was filthy, prices had increased and the atmosphere of the past was gone. I don't know what has occurred and would love to rectify this review but everything is so expensive lately. Be wise. Cheers. This is no longer the case but this was what once was: This place was so incredible! It was fast, fresh, delicious and superb! The staff were friendly and welcoming. I’ve been twice now, and the second time, people that were there the first time came back to say hello. It is one thing to put on a smile and a friendly face and a whole other thing to come out and say hi. Both the cook, Pete, and the bartender, Chad, remembered me and were so kind. We parked at City Creek parking and walked over, not even a block away. I’ve learned that they have been there since August. The location was clean and peaceful. The food was unbelievably delicious both times. I have never had tapas before this place so to explain it to someone else who has never had it: It is a bunch of small plates of different foods that you order and then share with each other. The more people in your party, the more plates you order and the more different delectable dishes you get to try! The food was distinctive, flavorful and very palatable. Everything I ordered each time was appetizing and filling. Pete, the cook was incredible with every dish. The dishes also make great leftovers. The price was very reasonable, too. I expected to pay double what my final check was. There’s a couple key shout outs I want to make. The pan con tomate is this pizza like dish that has such a unique flavor. Everything was five star. This and the tosta de setas were mouthwatering surprises! The second shout out is to the bartender, Chad. Both times I’ve gone in, he made custom drinks for us. I don’t drink alcohol so I normally stick to water. However, the way he makes drinks is remarkable. He keeps tweaking the drink you have until you absolutely love it. He’s patient and kind the whole time. My wife often chides me that I can be impossible to please but he made me feel very comfortable with wanting a drink that I would love. When I went the second time, I asked him to surprise me and he came out with a drink I was not crazy about but my friend loved. So my friend got the drink and Chad, with a whole time, kept adjusting it until I loved it! If you are looking for a local spot with great food, great atmosphere, great service and a great experience, try Finca Pintxas! Cheers!

Update: I’d like to update my review after Marty reached out to personally invite us back for a lovely evening and incredible hospitality! The previous visit must have been an off night as tonight more than made up for it! We love supporting local and will definitely be back for the delicious food. Thanks for going above and beyond for us, Marty! We went in tonight and had a disappointing experience. Waiting at the door without any acknowledgement from staff for 5 mins. We almost left. A few seats open at the bar but not clean/ready to seat. When we finally got the attention of the only TWO staff working there on a Saturday night- bartender and server (who seemed super inexperienced and perhaps new) we were told just a few minutes. After being seated, no waters until asked because they didn’t have clean water glasses and no food menu because she couldn’t find one. We placed our food order and it was taking a long time for just an app. She later informed us that they had forgotten the item/lost in the queue so she offered to compensate my coke. She never asked how the food was or if we needed any drink refills or anything else. I found the patatas bravas on the bland side. It should be a bit more cooked and crispy/fried, needed more salt which wasn’t around and perhaps a touch of cayenne to elevate the flavor a bit. I’ve had patatas bravas in Spain and love it. It wasn’t the same. I won’t be back! I really wanted to leave a 0 tip.

Such friendly, down to earth, and knowledgeable staff! Great wine selections, pan con tomate, paella, and incredible chocolate torte. Will definitely recommend to friends and loved ones. I also voted for them as “City Weekly’s” Best of Utah 2024, Restaurant Salt Lake Valley.

I really enjoyed this place. Their Tapas is fantastic! Service was really good as well. I ordered every cold and hot pintxos dish. Every single dish was absolutely fantastic! On the cold side, I really did enjoy everything. I used the Gazpacho as a palette cleanser and I suggest you do the same. On the hot side, I once again enjoyed everything. My favorite was the Albondiga, a beef and pork meatball! It was so fresh and flavorful. The presentation was fun as well. The Cerdo and Datiles were also among my overall favorites. I’ll have to come back and try more of their menu!

I have been to Spain several times and know a good Paella. Overall hit or miss with my meal. The Fennel Salad with oranges was one of the best I have ever had! Amazing. The Seafood Paella was 4/5 (That's not bad). For some reason they are using Frozen New Zealand Green Lip mussels (Poor choice). These frozen New Zealand mussels don't belong in Paella. Use Black mussels (PEI or Med) and I will return. I hope the chef responds to this. Overall the Paella was pretty good and I liked the restaurant. The 4 stars versus 3 are a result of the incredible Salad. I assume other Tapas meals are also good.

My boyfriend and I had the opportunity to attend the Finca Pintxos Bar soft opening and we were incredibly impressed! We are already fans of the Finca restaurant, so we were excited when we heard they were branching out and opening something a little more accessible in the downtown area! My boyfriend lived in Spain for a number of years and is always so blown away with the accuracy and how truly classic and traditional the foods and flavors are. And it seems like the Pintxos bar will be no different! We tried everything we could, and it was all absolutely delicious. We tasted the Patatas Bravas, Croquetas, Pan Con Tomate, Datiles, and obviously had to try both dessert offerings, the Churros and the Torta De Santiago. The drinks were also spectacular. Don’t let yourself leave without trying one of their ‘GinTonics’ or beautiful Spanish wines. Something else I personally appreciate about Finca Pintxos is that the Gluten Free options are all clearly labeled on the menu. We ate plenty, but didn’t go home with anything but happy tummies. -09/09/2023 - I have to share an update! After attending the soft opening, I was ecstatic to also attend their grand opening. And it was everything I could have imagined, and then some! The staff all had such a great flow with one another, and between areas. We were taken such good care of by everyone there. I had the chance to chat with the Chefs in the kitchen, and you can tell they truly care about the food they’re putting out, and the people they’re feeding. We also had the opportunity to meet and speak with the owner for a few minutes, the passion he has for the food, and this place are palpable. He was so excited to share his love with everyone. And that’s a gem. His knowledge of traditional Spanish cuisine, and his excitement about being able to share that with others, was infectious. We already knew we would like Finca Pintxos, but now we absolutely love it.

We had a really nice time here (mid week) The menu was simple, authentic and punchy. The tapas we chose were just delicious. Very generous servings with great flavors and drinks menu to complement the meals. Staff and the chef Pete and his Soux chef were 👌 We will be back!

Yelp
Finca is a Spanish/Basque tapa and pintxos bar located in the heart of downtown. We tried a variety of dishes including gambas, albondighas, patata bravas, and pan con tomate. The patatas bravas were the most authentic in flavor but the potato chunks were a bit too large to enjoy, and having them in smaller chunks is an easy fix to improve the eating experience and make it far less clumsy. The gambas had good flavor, so did the meatballs but they were quite dry and could be improved. Sadly our pan con tomate was raw when it came out so I had to ask for it to be sent back, but the waitstaff were apologetic and extremely nice about it. The honey sage gintonic I had was so good. It tasted well balanced and not too alcoholic, but it definitely packed a punch. Sipping on this while eating tapas was the perfect combination. Overall none of the food was too memorable but the place itself has great ambiance, music, and workers so I enjoyed spending my dinner there.

Yelp
i lived in the basque country for a few months and was super excited to try this place. it had a lot of my favorite spanish classics as well as other basque offerings like gildas and classic alcohols from the area like sidra, cava or even txakoli. their drinks were good, we had the honey sage gin and tonic and it was strong but super tasty. service was fantastic, waiter was super attentive and friendly. he seemed excited to serve us our food and knowledgeable as well. we also had an issue with one of our dishes and he gladly helped us. food was hit or miss, i enjoyed the gambas. traditionally in spain every time i've had gambas they usually use huge shrimps but these were a bunch of smaller shrimps. i didn't mind and it was still my favorite dish of the night, super garlicky and had some bread to soak up the delicious flavors. the patatas bravas were alright, i thought the sauces were okay, usually the andalouse sauce is spicy but this one wasn't so that was kinda lacking. the white garlicky sauce was delicious though. my main complaint about the patatas were that the potato itself was too big, i prefer when they're cut into chunks or sort of cubes so you can eat each potato in one bite. we also got albóndigas, they were honestly dry and a little stiff. i also thought the meat itself could be seasoned better with more salt at least but the sauce was fragrant and delicious. lastly we had the pan con tomate, i've never seen it made this way where it's kind of on a pizza bread? i'm not sure. we ended up returning this because the bread was uncooked and had a raw dough mouth feel. the one bite i took out of it wasn't my favorite either, it just completely missed the mark of a traditional spanish pan con tomate. it didn't taste salty or oily enough and the tomato flavor itself wasn't very sweet or fresh. overall though the ambiance was great, it was calm and had good music. i'd come back for the drinks and perhaps to try their tortilla

Yelp
Tasty fresh flavors, though salty and service on the slower end (thanks to the runner for taking our order too) Huevos rellenos Gazpacho - my favorite, Ensalada de txangurro - fresh but salty Pulpo - well cooked octopus and crispy potato Bronzino - super well cooked

Yelp
My boyfriend and I came here on a whim-- what a great experience! The place itself is not huge but felt welcoming and intimate. We sat at the bar and thoroughly enjoyed various gin and tonic variations (they specialize in gin and tonics as a bar). We also ordered many tapas as well as a paella and then churro bites to finish the meal. Everything was delicious! The paella was especially yummy. I felt the prices were appropriate for it being in downtown and being a little upscale. The staff were friendly and overall it was a great date night for us. We will definitely be back again!!

Yelp
All of the tapas and main courses were so delicious. We really enjoyed our time at dinner here. The service was great, the chefs were chatty and interesting. We can't wait to go back to try more things.

Yelp
This was an awesome place!! They offer such good tapas and great interesting variety with a nice Spanish flare. Friendly service with excellent recommendations.

Yelp
One of the worst meals I have ever been served in Salt Lake City. Everything was subpar at best but the truly memorably bad dish was Jamon Serrano. They cut the face off of the bag of potato chips and dumped in some cheap ham which was then served to us. It is comically bad! Not to mention costing $15!!!!!

Yelp
Wonderful dinner this evening before an Eccles show next door. We had reservations and were taken right to our table. Service was excellent and really enjoyed the vibe! I love Gin and Tonics, and they have a whole selection to choose from!! I got the Onsen, which has Japanese Roku Gin, my favorite! My husband got a nonalcoholic G&T. We shared the Pan con Tomate, Cerdo, Colifor and Patatas Bravas!! Everything had great flavor and the portions were great for sharing! Can't wait to come back and try some more G&Ts and other menu items!!

Yelp
I'm super bummed. I really wanted to LOVE Finca, but generally poor service makes me pause at wanting to return. We made a 945pm reservation on Saturday night, which I know is late, but we were picking up family at the airport, so the timing was great ahead of a very late arrival. When we sat down to order, we asked for the paella, which the server informed us took 25+ minutes and they wanted to close the kitchen. Ummm... after some protests, the server put in the order. We ordered a couple sardines and the mushroom toast, and when i asked the server if we had enough food, he said yes (ehh... I don't think so). A few minutes later, I put in an order of patatas bravas just in case. And thank goodness, as we wouldn't have had nearly enough food otherwise. Other service snafus was another server pouring us our beers. I saw her dripping my beer on the floor while pouring, and my husband's beer glass was 1/2 foam. Yikes. Despite the website discussing drinks after closing hour, the staff at the restaurant were ready to go home. We were delivered our check before asking for it and were not asked if we wanted another drink. Too bad on all front. Food was generally good. The mushroom toast was delicious... but this is not a place we will return.

Yelp
A hidden gem. Great location- easy to find parking at city creek and a short walk on over to the restaurant. FYI this place is 21+ only. They card at the door (even if you have no intention of drinking- bring your ID). The menu felt simple but appealing. Limited seating to create a small intimate vibe. Some bar seating available as well. Super friendly staff!!! They created some veggie options and mocktails for us off the menu. Everything was super tasty and we left happy and full!

Yelp
Fantastic! From amazing cocktails (recommend the Bees thoughtfully mixed by Chad or anything Lando makes really) coupled with small plates expertly crafted by Cameron... you should not miss this spot!

Yelp
SO delicious and such amazing service. Tastes just like Spain. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
A Spanish bar that is not to far off from a good modern Spanish bar in Madrid . Has all the classic dishes, and some vegetarian and vegan options. The vermut rojo is a must order Spanish drink ! Amazing and funny staff !

Yelp
Really tasty tapas and cocktails. Friendly service. Good ambiance. I will definitely be back. The paella was the highlight for me.

Yelp
What a great addition to SLC! Truly authentic Spanish cuisine, in a wonderful atmosphere. Sit at the bar, talk to the super-friendly staff and enjoy a glass of wine and tapas. The tapas are first-rate. The gildas (olives and an anchovy) will make you think you're in Spain. The tortilla and the allioli were delicious. The pan con tomate was a home run. They bake the bread for this at the restaurant. It's a simple dish, but in Spain it is a part of life, and it was amazing at Finca Pintxos Bar.

Alex C.

Yelp
Drinks, food and dessert was all delicious! Would recommend the Datil, Cerdo Tosta De Setas, Gambas and Churros. Service was also great and very welcoming.

Isabella D.

Yelp
Such great food and amazing atmosphere. Right down town SLC. Recommend the Tosta de Setas tapas as well as the potato's bravas. The espresso martinis as well as the sangria naranja are KILLER!! Liam was our sever and was so personable and very helpful with recommendations!! Everything was wonderful.

Yelp
Like the other Finca locations, they have great Spanish tapas. Definitely get the pan con tomate. They make the bread in-house and it's the perfect combination of crisp, soft, & chewy. Service was also great and everyone was super friendly.

David T.

Yelp
Best pulpo I've ever had. The service was great and the food was amazing. Our server was very friendly and welcoming.

Glen P.

Yelp
Good service, great cocktails and the food was pretty good. I love paella and ordered it there but it was only ok. Needed more seasoning.

Wes S.

Yelp
Most of the food we had was quite good but I actually thought the portions were too big for tapas/pintxos. Many of them are entree sized so you end up not being able to enjoy as wide a variety, which is for me a big part of the tapas experience. The gin and tonic I had was excellent and even somewhat eye-opening I would say.

Sarah S.

Yelp
Initially, this place deserved more stars, but during our meal that drastically changed. I had made a reservation online in advance with plenty of time before our show to enjoy tapas, because it's generally a SLOW meal. However, if you make a reservation on a busy night, there's a good chance you'll get kicked out with basically no warning! I'm so unimpressed because the whole point of making a reservation early was to make sure we had plenty of time to continue ordering different tapas and drinks and not feel rushed. We were made aware 20 minutes before our "reservation time was up" and someone else was going to take our table because the restaurant booked over us, only giving us a little more than an hour for TAPAS. Nowhere in my reservation or confirmation email was there mention of any time limit, so I was pretty peeved at the delivery from the staff. Literally as we were trying to order more drinks and food, we were made aware that we had to leave. If that's your expectation as a small tapas restaurant, make it VERY clear up front and don't put any 30 minute items on your menu. The food was delicious though.

Stephen R.

Yelp
This place was incredible! It was delicious, fast, fresh, and superb. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The location was so convenient. We parked at the City Creek shopping mall and walked over, not even a block. My wife and I went at lunch time. It was pretty empty. I learned that they have only been there since August. The location was clean and peaceful. The food was unbelievably delicious. I have never had tapas before so to explain it to someone else who has never had it: It is a bunch of small plates of different foods that you order and then share with each other. I get the feeling that the more people you have in your party ordering food, the more fun it all is. I have messed up some of the names. The food was delicious there and was great as leftovers. I plan on returning and bringing a big group! The price was very reasonable, too. I was expecting to pay about double what I did for everything I ordered. I am going to order more and I am so excited! The drinks in the pictures aren't on the menu but the bartender, Chad, made them. He kept tweaking them until we both loved ours. Next time I go, if he's there I'm going to ask him to surprise me. The owner has made a hit restaurant. I just hope more people can find it. Cheers!
