The 13 Best Gelato Spots In Rome 2024

"Trastevere is home to some of the best bars and restaurants in Rome. After a few drinks at Bar San Calisto, wander over to Fiordiluna for a scoop or two. The creamy mascarpone might surprise you with bits of chocolate and biscuit, and the pistachio packs a wonderfully nutty crunch. The classic yogurt flavor, meanwhile, could easily put your hometown froyo spot out of business. And if you still need to buy a souvenir for the person watching your dog at home, their homemade jams are easy to slip into your checked bag." - annie replogle, gillian mcguire

11 Best Gelato Shops in Rome

"At Fiordiluna, there's definitely a feeling that gelato is meant to be fun, from the jaunty wallpaper and orange bar stools to the cheerful, low-hanging lamps and fluorescent typography: “Fiordilatte." Aldo, the owner uses top-notch ingredients from local, small-scale producers and focuses on the classics like chocolate, coffee, crema, and lemon, but there are occasional twists. The ever-popular duetto, a mix of pistachio and hazelnut, was born when Aldo accidentally dropped a bag of Piemonte hazelnuts into the pistachio." - Maresa Manara

Google
Great gelato and friendly service. Very polite staff and they even offer samples. We went twice while in Rome and left satisfied both times. We asked what their bestseller was and it was the mandarin. They were sold out both times so we never got to try it. We did try a bunch of the other flavors and they were all great.

Google
Fiordiluna serves top-quality, authentic gelato. We tried the pistachio and stracciatella—both were incredibly smooth and full of flavor. You can tell it’s the real deal by the texture, which is much creamier than typical gelato shops. They also store their gelato in canisters, the traditional way, which helps maintain freshness.

Google
We walked in here just because we really craved gelato. Was so surprised by how tasty the gelato was!! The chocolate flavor made a really big impression. The depth of the chocolate flavor!! I loved loved loved this place 😍😍

Google
Okay, this is THE best gelato in Rome. We went here on our food tour and it was incredible, definitely a hidden gem. Authentic and delicious gelato.

Google
Cannoli with pistachio was great! The filling is better than other central places. It was 4 euros.

Google
Good gelato at Trastevere, however it wasn’t the best one I’ve tried at Rome (knowing that you see a “Gelato Champion” billboard on their entrance)

Dee

Google
Excellent gelato, good portion size and great flavours with a decent amount of choices. One of my favourites when I’m in the area. The staff are very friendly and helpful with flavour combinations also, the guy who served me recently had a great humour about him. Recommended!

Google
Sweet side: -Awarded as the best place. -Fast and friendly service. -Venezuelan chocolate as the signature flavor. -I’m a pistachio lover, and this is the best I've tasted, with tiny particles bursting with flavor. -The freshly made cookie is very crunchy. Now, the downside: Sour side: -A 15/20-minute wait in line (Sunday 4:20 pm). -No wifi, just grab and go.

Yelp
We read some articles before our Rome trip about how to tell what is a legit gelato spot. This place had the required traits. Covered gelato bins: check. Non-neon colored gelato: check. The flavors we tried were chocolate, pistachio, vanilla, and salted caramel peanut. In the nut flavors, you could taste and feel the actual chunks of those nuts. In the vanilla, the vanilla beans. All of the flavors were so natural both in their tastes and textures. I don't even like sweets and found these to be amazing. The service here, too, was friendly, and the ambiance was welcoming.

Yelp
Excellent gelato in trastevere area. Very sleek shop with such nice service. About 3 Euro for a small cup with the option for two flavors. Perfect little portion for me! I opted for the pistachio and cannoli both great consistency and taste. Not too sweet but beautifully dense and pungent.

Yelp
This is the second best gelato I tried in Rome during a week long visit, and I tried many, many places. It's the only one I went back to more than once, both because it was good and because I was in the neighborhood for restaurants on several nights. The service was fast and friendly, and the ambiance is nice. The gelatos are stored in covered containers and not out on display the way the touristic places display them in neon colors. The fruits are fresh and the quality seems very high.

Yelp
Fior di Luna is undoubtedly a popular gelato spot, evident from the line of people eagerly waiting. Despite the crowd, we thoroughly enjoyed our gelato to-go and took a leisurely stroll around the area.

Yelp
One of the best gelato places in Rome! Amidst the hundreds of fake gelato stores occupying space in Rome, it was wonderful to find this gem of a place based on a local's suggestion. We got a chocolate-based flavor, hazelnut, and stracciatella, where were all delicious! The gelato was rich, milkier, dense without adverse aftertastes, flavorful, and better than what I was hoping we would get during our trip to Rome. We also tried the cannoli which was absolutely wonderful! It was filled to order, even late at night, so the shell was crispy, the filling was delicious and creamy, and we got to choose a crunchy nut coating.

Yelp
Just literally one of the best gelatos that we tried during our trip to Italy this summer. We tried a lot of gelatos, but this place topped it. This feels natural and organic, you could find bits and pieces of the pistachio and hazelnut (my two favorite flavors!). If you are in Trastavere, stop by here for a little gelato snack.

Yelp
Good gelato spot in the middle of Trastavere, Rome! It's one of the cheapest spots I experienced. It was only 2.50 euros for a small cone, and you get two flavors. They let me pay with a credit card. The servers spoke English. They had a line, but it went by quickly. I got tiramisu and gianduia.
google avatar

Andy H.

Yelp
Best gelato in Roma. In a quite area. No seats but plenty of space outside. We had seconds.
google avatar

Marcello G.

Yelp
Though it's a cozy little spot, don't be deceived. Here, you'll find some of the best gelato you've ever tasted . Need a flavor suggestion? Give the 'fig' a whirl. And for an added touch of creaminess, don't skip the panna on top.
google avatar

Chris B.

Yelp
Rude and unfriendly. The kid with fake Rolex behind the counter had major attitude. Gelato was average and not worth dealing with him. Would not recommend
google avatar

Michael W.

Yelp
once considered THE gelato spot in Trastevere, before Fatamorgana came along (and now Otaleg) a prime location right on via della Lungara, where everyone strolls from the main throroughfare of Viale Trastevere towards the bellybutton of Trastevere, Santa Maria in Trastevere serves up some delicious gelato, in creamy nutty or fruit flavors
google avatar

Angela N.

Yelp
We just finished lunch and I was hankering for something sweet. This place was empty and had a good rating on yelp so I went on in and ordered a small cone. The employee was very polite and helpful! But the gelato was subpar and not really memorable.
google avatar

Adam L.

Yelp
Not much to say that hasnt already been said: Just a great gelato spot in Trastevere. The pistachio and hazelnut are hands down the way to go. Good prices for the location, good service, and never much of a wait. For certain one of the better gelato places in Rome, great spot!

Angel W.

Yelp
If you have food allergies don't bother going here. We asked about an ingredient and we were told that he will not serve us. The server was very rude.

Yelp
This was one of our favorite gelatos that we had in Rome - they have two locations, and this one is located in Trastevere. We got a small ice cream of two flavors: pistachio and hazelnut. I would highly recommend both these flavors. They don't have that big of a selection of flavors, maybe 15-20. Both the hazelnut and gelato flavors we had were great, and didn't taste artificial. The pistachio was probably the best pistachio that we had in Italy (and I ate gelato every day for 10 days, sometimes 2 in one day). The pistachio wasn't some artificial green color, and it actually tasted like roasted pistachios. They did have whipped cream on top of the ice cream but it didn't taste particularly fresh to me - it was a bit sour and probably wasn't sweetened. I didn't like the whipped cream at all and would pass on it next time. Overall, really great pistachio gelato and I'd come back here again for this flavor. Worth a visit if you're in the area; it was one of our favorite gelato places in Rome.

Yelp
My ranking: 1) Fred (custard with cookies)- sweet and tasty! 2) Gianduia (hazelnut chocolate)- chocolate icecream with some hazelnuts like a Ferrero rocher. 3) Pistachio- more subtle flavor 4) Stracciatella (chocolate chip)- kinda plain except the chocolate bits. They didn't have duetto today. 2.5€ for 2 scoops on a cone. Cash only.

Yelp
I am a bit puzzled at the yelp reviews for this Rome gelato place in Trastevere. The flavor choices are quite nice but between the less than attentive folks behind the counter and the mediocre gelato, i can't award more than 3 stars. Maybe it's the location people like or maybe it's one of the better options in this hip part of town across the River, but in my opinion there are just so many great ice cream options in Rome that seeking this one out would be settling.
google avatar

Leah K.

Yelp
Fio di Luna knocks it out of the park for location and quality. We stopped here on our usually passeggiata for a cup or a cone. The best flavors were biscuit (cookie crumbles and chocolate swirl) and hazelnut chocolate (you know, the typical favorite)! There are spots to sit, and it's very welcoming inside. I believe they also make their own whipped cream! They close at 10 so don't make this your place for a very late night snack. Come early! Enjoy the sun and the people watching.
google avatar

Vic F.

Yelp
A very small cutesy gelato shop off the beaten path. A very good value for the locals and tourist alike, I opted for their non dairy lemon and strawberry flavors. Since I've been over doing it with the local cheeses. Back to the review...yes you get two flavors even in their smallest cup/cone. This place has more flavor then cream, me likes better than the Lemongrass near Vatican City.
google avatar

Richard C.

Yelp
Best gelato hands down. We tried a bunch of places over the course of our 4 night stay and we found ourselves coming back to Fiordiluna. Prices are cheap and they servers don't get mad if you try more than 3 flavors (not always the case at other places). You have to try the "Fred" flavor. You get two flavors per cup. We tended to like half lemon/half strawberry (fragola) with crema on top. Also if you like iced coffee, definitely get a Granita with the coffee flavor and crema. You'll thank me later. Last but not least, they are CASH ONLY
google avatar

Cara W.

Yelp
Really enjoyed this place. A small spot that still managed to fit a handful of small tables with plenty of seats inside, this place was bright (clean!) and friendly from the start. The gentleman behind the counter was courteous, explaining items we weren't sure about, and making sure to ask if we wanted a second flavor (which is included in the price but we didn't even think about it at first). The gelato itself was delicious, and very reasonably priced (€2,50 for two scoops on a cone). Our first scoop, the duetto (hazelnut, pistachio, and chocolate), was absolutely divine. There were chunks of pistachios, hazelnuts, and chocolate sprinkled throughout the already flavorful gelato. Our second was Custard and Cookies, which was so smooth and creamy with a fudge swirl and large chunks of biscuits hidden inside. A+ for this place, come check it out!

Yelp
Best gelato I've had in Rome so far, hands down! So pleasantly surprised at the amount of vegan options that weren't just sorbet. I got the fig flavor and the chocolate water flavor, both nice and creamy even though neither contained latte. Overall a great gelato choice
google avatar

Lena K.

Yelp
Best gelato I had in Italy, hands down. It's creamy and clearly made with fresh, quality ingredients -- you can taste the difference. The chocolate-hazelnut, pistachio and crema with biscotti were divine on a hot day in Rome.
google avatar

Will A.

Yelp
This was the best gelato we had while in Rome... even better than Giolitti in my humble opinion! The flavors were rich and robust, and the service was PHENOMENAL. The guys behind the counter had a great vibe and energy. In addition, this place had the best tiramisu we sampled during our entire visit! Which we thought was somewhat random, since you'd think one of the nicer restaurants would have great tiramisu, but nope. This gelateria knocked it out of the park.
google avatar

Rachelle B.

Yelp
Delicious! I wanted to come here my last visit to Rome, but didn't make it. Luckily this time, we were staying just down the street! I had the Pistachio and Hazelnut Chocolate Gelato - I loved every bite. The service was very kind and not too expensive.
google avatar

Jeffrey Z.

Yelp
Really good gelato. Came on my friend's recommendation literally claiming "their fruit gelato tastes like you're biting into real fruit," and I got to confirm it. We tried the melon and strawberry flavors, both of which are made from real fruit and they were amazing on a hot day. A must try gelato place in the Trastevere area. Single scoops for 2.50 euro.
google avatar

Alison L.

Yelp
Good gelato option in Trastevere complete with emo teenager working the counter. Bonus points for having hazelnut, chocolate hazelnut, and pistachio hazelnut. I'm impressed. They also had a persimmon flavor which was the first time I've seen that. It was a good attempt but not exactly the best. WARNING- they do not have cones!
google avatar

Annika L.

Yelp
When in Rome - have gelatto, and lots of it. If you are in Trastevere this is definetly a place to go to. I would personally prefer a couple of other places, but this was not bad at all. Just not the best in Rome. Tasting before buying is accepted, and thats a plus. But flavours are not as interesting as other places. But the basics are in order, and for dark chocolate lovers this is a good place to visit. And since the surroundings are so cute - maybe just go there for the cobblestone and narrow roads. And top this off with some ice cream :)
google avatar

Jessica L.

Yelp
Phenomenal gelato, among the best I have ever had. Best pistachio gelato I have ever tasted, and the nocciola/hazelnut was excellent as well. Not to be missed.
google avatar

Barbara M.

Yelp
Gelato in Roma!! Different flavor options than most spots. Loved the pistachio/hazelnut mix. Huge portion for a "small"
google avatar

Mark A.

Yelp
Excellent variety. Great service. They can sit at most 7 people. We loved it. Va Benne!
google avatar

Welliton F.

Yelp
Great sorbet, but very pricey for the amount given. You badly taste the ice cream !!!
google avatar

Micaela R.

Yelp
The BEST gelato. It's really that good. It's great for after pizza (I liked to go after dar poeta). I really liked the seasonal flavors, my favorite was the fig and the very very dark chocolate. Everything was organic and tasty, and the service was good. A great place to practice your Italian, too.
google avatar

Chloe S.

Yelp
The BEST gelato I tasted in Italy! The sorbets contained chunks of real fruit and had amazing flavor. Every other place I visited fell short of Fior di Luna. Be sure to visit this gem of a gelato shop, especially if you are in the Trastavere area!
google avatar

Dan F.

Yelp
2nd to smallest cup size and they still allow you to choose up to 3 flavors. Whip cream on top included. That's a 4-star establishment for me. No seating, otherwise a 5 might be warranted in my book. 3 kinds of chocolate. Had the melon, hazelnut, and peach ... cause it just felt like summer in Rome :-)
google avatar

D M.

Yelp
Pardon the hyperbole, but I think this is the best gelato I have ever had.... Not much else to say. Take the trip, it's worth it. www.fiordiluna.com
google avatar

Aimee O.

Yelp
Excellent service from Fior di Luna! It was 11:30pm yesterday, Fior di luna were closed And were dying for a gelato!! After myself and my 2 sisters begged to open up again the team said they would and did it with pleasure! They were so sweet, not only did they open up for us but they gave us a bar of chocolate on the house! Seriously such a lovely place, The gelato was so yum and the staff were great! Highly recommend! :) made 3 irish girls very happy!
google avatar

Vicky K.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I always have to come to this amazing gelateria when we're in Rome! It's a super small gelateria which has the best gelato in town. We always come here for the strawberry sorbetto, which is without milk and so much better! They have various sizes ranging from 2,50 up to 4,50€. The icecream is super good!
google avatar

Ashley H.

Yelp
We visited this gelato store as part of a food tour. What a perfect ending g to our journey! The gelato was out of this world! Very fresh and authentic!!! I had the melon and peach flavor. My husband had coconut and fig!!! I think if I went back again... which I will be... I would do the melon and coconut!
google avatar

Tristan B.

Yelp
The best gelato I've had in Trastevere thus far. Studying abroad here will be changed. If only I could have found this place two months ago when I initially arrived. The Duetto and Fred flavors were absolutely delicious. I had them along with the Caffe (which actually tasted like coffee beans). I will be going here many more times over my next two months in Rome. Absolutely delicious.
google avatar

Jaszon S.

Yelp
Located in Trastevere, Fior di Luna cranks out the best gelato I've ever had. Anywhere. The guys behind the counter are friendly, and they stay open fairly late. Again, it's the best gelato I've ever had, in spite of offering a limited (but decent) selection of standard/typical flavors.

Marissa R.

Yelp
A quick walk from where we were staying. And in. a great location in general. We loved the dark chocolate in the stracciatella! It was a busy place which tells you how good it is. We also loved the Catalan Cream flavor! There were plenty of tables and seats. Our server was kind and patient as we decided which flavors we would like. Great service and delicious gelato!
google avatar

Lisa G.

Yelp
This place is delicious. I've been here the last four nights I've been in Rome. The first night I lucked out and ordered the winning combination that has been my dessert each night. The Crema Catalana and Cioccolate is unreal. Crema Catalana is a spanish cream with cinnamon (very light) and some sort of drizzle (not carmel, but something in the same family). It's light and unreal and a perfect accompaniment to chocolate. Enjoy!
google avatar

Anna C.

Yelp
Pretty great ice cream place! The people are really nice and patient, and it's always busy in the shop. I think it's important to try their licorice flavor because it's the best licorice tasting thing I've ever eaten in my life and I've eaten a lot of licorice. They are really healthy too, no fake colors, homemade and biological. Definitely a place worth going.
google avatar

James L.

Yelp
Yum! There aren't a gazillion choices, but what I selected was excellent. The guys behind the counter are very patient when you're mutilating rudimentary italiano to give your order- and they obviously speak English if you get stuck. I recommend.
google avatar

Andrew H.

Yelp
Among the best gelato I have had. There were a few too many of what tasted like ice chunks in the hazelnut, but they may have actually been pieces of nut. It looks like they only had cups but no cones.
google avatar

Gayle T.

Yelp
Stopped by this place during a food tour of Rome. This was the best gelato I had while I was in Rome. Their strawberry (fragola) gelato was amazing. They will let you sample whatever gelato you like (and as many as you want). This place is a must if you are in Rome. Be sure to find out what fruits are in season while you are there an try those gelatos.
google avatar

Tony H.

Yelp
A great little gelato place in the Trastevere area, the pistachio was probably the best we had during our time in Rome, it had a very strong and rich texture to it. It's a bit out of the way of most touristy spots, so I can't say it's a must go to, but definitely if you are in the area.

Tiffany C.

Yelp
A little gelateria in Trastevere, Fior di Luna is a small but whimsical gelateria with several unique flavours. I'd especially recommend it for chocolate lovers - they had multiple types of chocolate from different parts of the world with different notes. I had one from Madagascar with red fruit notes! I also had a cinnamon gelato with candied orange chunks. Both flavours were rich and flavourful even though they weren't my favourites, and I wouldn't hesitate recommending this place to others.
