"Vaunted Brooklyn cafe Five Leaves has thrown in the towel in East Hollywood, ending a truncated run that lasted only nine months. Reps for the restaurant confirmed the shutter following Monday night service. Five Leaves opened with big hopes in April of 2019 along East Hollywood’s Fountain stretch, an area that is rapidly changing but still has not seen a massive increase in customer density. The stunning corner Art Deco space was filled with light and glass and muted color tones, and worked an all-day menu from the outset, before paring back to just dinner and cocktails several months in. Even with that belt-tightening it seems the place was not able to draw the crowds needed to remain viable, and the addition of other restaurants nearby, like the recently-reviewed Found Oyster and a taco takeaway from the Square One folks, only added more pressure." - Farley Elliott

"Inside, Five Leaves is a reveal of bright green houseplants and muted sunset tones, spread across plush banquettes and booths, with lots of marble and copper-toned fixtures to finish things off. The spread-out space spans some 89 seats inside, and the restaurant will also be debuting a patio closer to the summer." - Farley Elliott

"Located next to that big blue Church of Scientology building, Five Leaves is an all-day cafe in East Hollywood that originated in Brooklyn. While the high-end, art deco-space is certainly nice to look at and perfect for a client lunch, none of the food is good enough to warrant the high prices (the burger is inexplicably $19). That said, if you do end up here, go the cold green tea noodles. They’re light, refreshing, and at $15, is one of the cheaper items on the menu." - Brant Cox

"The Brooklyn-based daytime cafe, afternoon cocktail spot, and dinnertime charmer has arrived in East Hollywood, in the shadow of the deep blue Scientology building, and yet it still radiates with warm tones and casual California appeal. And, best of all, it opens to the public tomorrow. Five Leaves Los Angeles has been a labor of love for the BrightSide Hospitality group, the team also behind New York City spots like Union Pool and Hotel Delmano; they even opened L.A. Chapter at the Ace Hotel in Downtown LA. The West Coast version of Five Leaves is nearly four years in the making, with Jud Mongell and partners Zeb Stewart, Francesca Galassa, Gabrielle Shelton, and Mark Hendrix working with design firm HOME (they did Gwen in Hollywood) to carefully resurrect the Art Deco dream space. Now that work is complete, and paper is down from the colorful windows. Inside is a reveal of bright green houseplants and muted sunset tones, spread across plush banquettes and booths, with lots of marble and copper-toned fixtures to finish things off. The spread-out space spans some 89 seats inside, and the restaurant will also be debuting a patio closer to the summer. On the food front, chef Warren Baird is in to oversee the all-day menu, which includes heavy nods from the Brooklyn original. Spanning three daily meals means there’s a lot of variation to the menu, from pancakes with honey butter and lots of egg dishes in the morning to cavatelli with mint and English peas for dinner." - Farley Elliott

I'm delighted by my visit. The staff is friendly and helpful. The food is very creative and it was delivered quickly as ordered. I found the corn fritters to be a delicious blend of sweet and spicy. Facility has an upscale atmosphere. I recommend you enjoy the Irish coffee. I know I'll have another when I return with friends.

Newly opened LA outpost of the famous Brooklyn restaurant. Classical American menu with a Californian twist. The corn fritters were good, the egg sandwich quite bland. The orange juice was advertised as fresh but tasted canned. Service was friendly but the food took a while. Overall, I'm not sure I would go back.

So delicious albeit a bit pricey. Perfect for a date or celebratory dinner. If only I were rich I would eat here all the time! Try the split pea falafel. Amazing !!

Good food and services walking distance to Kaiser Permanente Hospital... A little on the pricey side!

It's a new Australian restaurant that's kind of hip. I liked the interior design and it's a cozy place. The prices are mediocre. The overall impression of the place is that the food were cooked to proper tastes and you can see that it's an up-scale type of restaurant with it's own signature. As a new establishment however, they can easily use a couple more staff. When my wife and I walked in, we waited perhaps 15 minutes to be seated. It is a little bit unnecessary as there were plenty of seats available. The waiter delivered a drink we didn't order but was for the table next to us. When the credit card bill came in, I can see the tip was not added to the bill - cheaper for me, but I think the staff can practice or do a dry run each day to get use to handling a restaurant. I gave it a 4 star because I really think it has a good potential and the food actually taste right. So hats off to the cooks.

Take into consideration that this restaurant is only 3 months old at the time of my visit. Also consider I went on a very busy Friday night. I found my experience pretty disappointing. While the waitress was absolutely darling, she more than once forgot to put orders in. (We were sharing plates at the table so we could try a number of dishes ) And the orders she did put in half the time were not right. The eggplant was tasteless. The watermelon salad was very flavorful but it had only three cubes of mozzarella in it. The prawns were so delicious we ordered a 2nd round. The pasta dish was absolute mush and completely flavorless. The lamb was beautifully presented & tasty but almost well done. (Lamb is typically served Medium rare.) The place is very attractive in design & beautifully lit particularly in the main dining room. The noise level requires you to scream at your dinner mates. Full bar - this is the place to go for cocktails. It is not a place I would go for wine or beer. Very limited beer & wine by glass selections. Street parking is very tricky in this area. The restaurant does offer valet parking for $10.

My first time at Five Leaves and I had a pleasant experience dining there. I enjoyed my fruit salad and bacon. I preferred to not use valet so I did park several blocks away because the neighborhood has permit parking mostly. It was busy at lunchtime, I was able to land a seat at the bar soon after I walked in. The bartender was friendly and my food arrived soon after I ordered it. I noticed the gentleman sitting next to me got his food soon after ordering too.I recommend Five Leaves for dining you shouldn't be disappointed.
