"The Brooklyn-based daytime cafe, afternoon cocktail spot, and dinnertime charmer has arrived in East Hollywood, in the shadow of the deep blue Scientology building, and yet it still radiates with warm tones and casual California appeal. And, best of all, it opens to the public tomorrow. Five Leaves Los Angeles has been a labor of love for the BrightSide Hospitality group, the team also behind New York City spots like Union Pool and Hotel Delmano; they even opened L.A. Chapter at the Ace Hotel in Downtown LA. The West Coast version of Five Leaves is nearly four years in the making, with Jud Mongell and partners Zeb Stewart, Francesca Galassa, Gabrielle Shelton, and Mark Hendrix working with design firm HOME (they did Gwen in Hollywood) to carefully resurrect the Art Deco dream space. Now that work is complete, and paper is down from the colorful windows. Inside is a reveal of bright green houseplants and muted sunset tones, spread across plush banquettes and booths, with lots of marble and copper-toned fixtures to finish things off. The spread-out space spans some 89 seats inside, and the restaurant will also be debuting a patio closer to the summer. On the food front, chef Warren Baird is in to oversee the all-day menu, which includes heavy nods from the Brooklyn original. Spanning three daily meals means there’s a lot of variation to the menu, from pancakes with honey butter and lots of egg dishes in the morning to cavatelli with mint and English peas for dinner." - Farley Elliott
