My coworker recommended this spot ahead of my trip to London. After doing research on Flat Iron's various locations, reviews, and reservation availability, this location was the best and a lot closer to where I was staying so walking distance was a plus. Even 3 weeks before traveling across the pond, the only dinner reservation availability was from 1-4pm... I opted for the 4pm slot. This location has 3 floors and is right next to Carnaby Street which was perfect - eat a good meal and head down Carnaby to do some shopping next! Keep in mind, there is no parking available so it's best to Uber/taxi or walk to the restaurant.
Upon arriving, there was a small wait as there was a group before us. We were taken down to the bottom floor next to the bar. While there were several tables filled, it took about 10-12 minutes before we got water and order taken. You're given a complimentary cup of popcorn to share at the table. For our group of 4, half ordered the flat iron steak (14.0), the other half ordered the wagyu steak of the day (22.0), 1 creamed spinach (3.5), 1 truffled macaroni cheese (5.5), and 1 crispy bone marrow garlic mash (4.0) all to share, 2 rose lemonades (3.5 each), and 1 bottled coke (3.5). This totaled to 107.84 with the optional donation and 12.5% optional service charge. What peeves me is that they already include it on your bill and if you don't want it, you have to ask them to take it off, which can be an awkward conversation. If it's optional, leave it up to the customer to say to add it to the bill or not.
The menu is simple. When the steak comes, it's laid out on a wooden board and not of great size, but a reasonable portion for the amount you're paying for. Overall it was tender, a bit between medium and medium rare. The steak of the day is definitely more fatty and tastier than the standard so definitely recommend ordering one of those to try the difference. The sides were very delightful and delicious! My favorite was the truffle mac and cheese and garlicky mash. Consider ordering sides with your meal - you can't go wrong!
Once your meal concludes, you'll receive tiny cleaver charms to redeem for a complimentary scoop of ice cream on the main floor. It was a nice way to end the meal - during this visit, they had Tahitian Vanilla with French Brown Butter. You can choose either a sugar cone or cup. Overall, this is a great inexpensive dining experience if you're visiting from out of town!
