"The influential Flatiron Lounge that was once home to several top cocktail makers like Phil Ward and helped shaped NYC’s craft cocktail scene will close Saturday, December 22, the Times reports. The bar has operated from 37 West 19th Street, between Fifth and Sixth Avenue, for over 15 years, but an alleged rent hike is forcing the restaurant out, owner Julie Reiner tells the Times. The monthly rate is set to rise from $22,000 to $30,000 — and that’s far too high for the bar’s current business model to sustain, Reiner says. Flatiron grew instantly popular when it kicked open in 2003 and became a starting point for many notable mixologists like Ward, who later opened mezcal bar Mayahuel; Giuseppe González of Suffolk Arms; and Lynnette Marrero, who’s now in charge of drinks at Llama Inn. Reiner is still involved with cocktail world hits Clover Club and Leyenda and rose to prominence for her involvement in Flatiron Lounge. It was credited with bringing serious, craft cocktails to the masses, in an era when many artisan cocktail spots were tiny speakeasies. The bar will close in January. Update: This piece was updated to reflect the bar’s new closing date of Saturday, December 22, according to co-owner Kristina Kossi." - Carla Vianna

"One of the “fancier” cocktail bars in the area, and probably your 2nd choice if Raine’s Law Room is full. Except not during Happy Hour, when it should be your 1st." - Katherine Lewin

A great little art deco bar in the style of great Gatsby - stylish and with great Manhattan coctails. The service is very friendly and accommodating. One minus point is the music - it used to be a nice low jazz and now it is just an average pop music, pretty loud, making it almost impossible to talk. Such a place should not play any other muaic but jazz, as it is the only one that goes with the interior. Please don't spoil it with this low bar contemporary pop trash

Awesome drinks and great atmosphere. It's not too loud so you can talk :)

Great drinks and excellent service. I like that they have a changing menu and had very different types of cocktails, including all those funky eggy drinks that I'd never seen so frequently prior to moving to NYC. The crowd seemed to be a good mix -- and on the trendier upscale side. Another place to dust off my longing for a good all-out girlie drink once and a while. At $13 a pop, it's not my everyday spot for sure, but a fun treat once in a while.

Great place for cocktails. Super friendly staff who are warm and welcoming. Cocktails come out quick and are really well done. They have some food but not much. The atmosphere is really cool and if you can catch some live music even better. Great place for a date.

Very good cocktails are served inside a very vintage-looking, intimate space. The building dates back to 1910, and the bar was built in 1927 for another establishment, serving the likes of Frank Sinatra and other celebrities before it was moved to its current home. At $15 each, these craft cocktails are a steal by NYC standards. Happy Hour runs 4-6 Monday through Friday and features $10 cocktails. On Sunday nights, there is live traditional jazz and swing music.

Really nice place! Very cozy and intimate! The servers were extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the drink menu. We had two gripes. The tables were a bit too close to each other so if you had more than 2 people in a group it was a bit difficult to manuever and too easy to bump into your neighbor. The other gripe was the cocktail flight was not tasty. Many of the drinks tasted just of alcohol.

One of the best cocktail bars in NYC. Great Deco style and atmosphere. Their menu always has something delicious and seasonal, and bartenders can make anything you need off menu. Only downside is no food menu, but the complimentary bar snack is enough to keep you in your seats for another round.

A swanky little place to get a cocktail. It is dark and kind of noisy but ended up being a great place for intimate conversation. The bartender was sweet to us. We ordered cocktail flights which I have never seen before and really enjoyed.
