Filipino street fare, burgers, loaded fries, and halo-halo

"Launched initially as a food truck in 2012, this relaxed Filipino American burger joint offers a mix of street food and comfort fare. Try the chicken pupu plate, featuring garlic rice and soy-glazed chicken, siopao steamed buns filled with a choice of pork or chicken, or go big with the wagyu beef patty-stacked Amboy Burger, topped with bacon, cheddar, lettuce, tomato, onion, butter pickles, and a homemade mayonnaise." - Marcy de Luna

"This former food truck slings some of Houston’s most creative burgers with influences from classic Filipino flavors. Order the Jeepney burger, which pairs akaushi beef patties with a link of longganisa sausage, fried egg, banana ketchup aioli, and steamed burger buns for a decadent burger experience well outside of the norm." - Minh Truong, Brittany Britto Garley
"This beloved destination for Filipino street eats boasts a lengthy menu of favorites like pecan-smoked pork skewers, garlic rice, and chopped longanisa wraps, but don’t fill up before sampling its sweet ube ice cream. The halo-halo, a popular Filipino dessert, incorporates sweet ube and vanilla ice-cream in a decadent mess of shaved ice, flan, jackfruit, coconut jellies and sweet red beans for a truly epic dessert. For something simpler, go with the ice cream burger, in which ube and vanilla ice cream is drizzled with condensed milk and sandwiched between a freshly toasted sesame bun." - Megha McSwain
"This former food truck is now slinging its Akaushi beef patties in a permanent location, and they pair perfectly with the Flip ‘n Fries: double cooked for an extra crunch and loaded with melty cheese, spicy sauce, aioli, and the choice of ground beef, pecan smoked pork butt, chicken, or longanisa sausage." - Baylea Jones, Eater Staff

"I saw that the beloved Filipino food truck Flip 'n Patties opened a brick-and-mortar the Friday before Christmas, and its Facebook page shows the restaurant at 1809 Eldridge Pkwy was in a soft opening during the week of Christmas, with posts including a Christmas message and a photo of the kitchen line staff and a thank-you for people who stopped by on opening day, Dec. 22. The new space has plentiful booth and table seating and superhero-inspired mural art reminiscent of the cartoons on the truck, and the menu teases "heaven in your mouth" dishes such as a chicken pupu garlic rice plate topped with furikake and finished with sweet chili sauce and the Jeepney burger with longanisa (Filipino sausage), fried egg, and banana ketchup aioli. The owners endured a robbery at gunpoint in early December that cost them a "substantial" amount of cash, which led them to start a GoFundMe to raise $25,000 toward the restaurant (just over $3,000 had been raised by opening day). Flip 'n Patties is open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at 1809 Eldridge Pkwy." - Alaena Hostetter
